2. Initial Reaction
• I’ve done a similar project for my GCSE coursework and plan on using that as a
basis for my idea but working on creating a much improved version that uses all
the skills I’ve gained since.
– I want to create a magazine that could be compared to ones such as Kerrang!, Mojo or Rolling Stone as I understand the style
that the audience expects and it’s within my interests. Choosing this genre of magazine opens up opportunity to write about UK
music festivals, new artists and current events in the desired music style.
– I know that I will easily be able to gather original images for the cover and double page spread, as I have the subjects of the
photo that have the style that I want as well as access to the right props.
• Print work is the rotation I think I‘ll have the most confidence in as I'm very
comfortable with the work, the software and the expectations.
– Another subject that I could base my magazine on is the film industry, more specifically looking at things like Marvel, 20th
Century Fox as well as Warner Brothers.
– This could be mixed with articles about current pop culture that appeals to the given target audience.
– If moving forward with this idea, including gaming/e-sports as a subject can be beneficial as it compliments the rest of the
content and would still allow the target audience to be the same. I can include news about new releases, online forums, popular
social media gaming personalities and other platforms that have the same content such as websites like YouTube and twitch.

7. Mood Board Analysis
Is there any repetition in the images you have collected?
Repeated colours/images styles/fonts/tone/mood
In a lot of the images on my mood board you can find black, white, greys, yellows, oranges and
reds as a very common colour scheme that many covers seem to follow in this genre.
For the main images on the example covers the subjects have either been shot during a
photoshoot or during a performance which is something to consider when thinking about the
original image.
Generally the fonts used on the covers have a heavy thick mast head in a colour that either
compliments or stands out firmly from the background image. You don't find delicate flowing font
styles so that is something to avoid and focus on ones that are much more blockier.
Around the outside of the covers, as not to distract too much from the main image, there are
blobs that relate to other articles in the magazine, giving the reader a visual que of what is inside
as well as a short text explaining what the interview is about.
Something that can be found in a lot of music magazines is free promotional products such as a
CD attached to the front or more commonly free posters of popular artists from the genre, which
is something that I want to include in my final product
