4. Song and Games for Senior
Scouts
Songs and games are two of the
most popular recreational activity in
Scouting. It is one way they express their
mood and feelings .
Properly conducted, both
recreational activities can be very
effective means of developing wholeness
in the boy, when body and spirit are
joined together in harmony, thus enabling
him to develop within himself the pursuit
of excellence, order and discipline as well
as the desire to achieve for the good of
all.

the Outfit gives a scout a
feeling of oneness with the
Outfit in body and in spirit.

1. Folk Songs = Culture and tradition of
people
2. Ceremonial Songs = Focuses on values

height possible

 Start on a one note which suits the majority
of the voices present and the range of the
songs.
 You are not a conductor of an orchestra
 Easiest way to teach a simple song with a
few lines for the leader to go on singing it
for several times.
 Indicate the comparative height of each
note with your hands.
 Try an old favourite to warm up

9.  Select your songs in advance and make
sure you know them well enough
 Set the pitch for the song by humming in
the first few bars.
 Never ask the outfit what song they
would like to sing.
 Be enthusiastic and wear a smile as you
lead a lively song.
 For an unfamiliar song, be sure to have
the words written on a large blackboard
that can be clearly be seen by all.

10.  Remember:
 No one can teach a song that
he himself does not know by
heart.
 Do not try to teach too many
at a time.
 And always, songs must be
sung.

11. Games for Senior Scouts
Scouts crave for fun and action, be it
formal or informal, be it organized or
rough.
Games are best training for discipline.
Games are part of the fun, learning, and
adventure of Senior Scouting
It contributes to physical, mental and
emotional fitness as well as providing
them with opportunities to gain self-
confidence.

 Scoutcraft Games – used to test and
review the scout skills
 Recreational Games – games for fun and
recreation
 Wide Games – played over a wide area
 Indoor Games – scoutcraft and
recreational games played indoors
 Team Building Games – develop
Cooperation, Teamwork and
Communication among Crews and the
Troop

13.  Competitive Games
– like skills proficiency, knowledge
and information and have specific set of
rules.
 Non-Competitive Games
– intended for showcases and
exhibition only and NOT necessarily a
contest.
 Cultural (Laro ng Lahi) or traditionl
Filipino Games
– learned and taught from one
generation to another

14. Hints in Conducting Games
 Make sure your games will fit the
Outfit
 The best games are those where
everybody is active.
 Do not break up the Crew to form a
team except in very, very, rare and
extreme cases.
 Let the senior Crew Leader lead.
 Before playing any game, ask all
players to take off all sharp and/or
pointed objects as well as breakables

15.  Explain the rules of the game clearly..
Game will not be successful unless all
players understand the rules. A good
way of doing this is as follow:

2. Get the crew in formation for the
game
3. Explain the rules
4. Run the game
