The document discusses the history of taxonomy and several early influential taxonomists:
1) One of the earliest was Caesalpino in the 1500s who classified 1500 species based on growth habit, fruit, and seed form.
2) The Bauhin brothers in the 1600s published a work listing 6000 species and helped establish genera and species as major taxonomic levels.
3) John Ray in the 1600s established species as the ultimate taxonomic unit and published a work with 18,000 plant species based on multiple characters.
Journey of ICBN to ICN- Changes and Significances.
Presented by : Chhan Kumar Kalita, PG 1st Semester, Department of Botany, Nowgown College (Autonomous).
Guided by : Dr. Prantik Sharma Baruah, Assistant Professor, Department of Botany, Nowgown College (Autonomous).
From its initiation in 1998, the Angiosperm Phylogeny Group (APG) has focused on the production of an ever-more stable system of classification of the flowering plants (angiosperms). Based largely on analyses of DNA sequence data, the system is compiled by a larger group of experts than any previous system and has the advantage of being testable, allowing for confidence levels in the system to be estimated for the first time.

The map views are useful for providing a geographical representation of data. They allow users to visualize and analyze the data in a more intuitive manner.
Synthetic Fiber Construction in lab .pptxPavel ( NSTU)
Synthetic fiber production is a fascinating and complex field that blends chemistry, engineering, and environmental science. By understanding these aspects, students can gain a comprehensive view of synthetic fiber production, its impact on society and the environment, and the potential for future innovations. Synthetic fibers play a crucial role in modern society, impacting various aspects of daily life, industry, and the environment. ynthetic fibers are integral to modern life, offering a range of benefits from cost-effectiveness and versatility to innovative applications and performance characteristics. While they pose environmental challenges, ongoing research and development aim to create more sustainable and eco-friendly alternatives. Understanding the importance of synthetic fibers helps in appreciating their role in the economy, industry, and daily life, while also emphasizing the need for sustainable practices and innovation.

2. One of the earliest authors was Caesalpino
(1519–1603) in Italy, who is sometimes called
"the first taxonomist". In 1583 he wrote De
Plantis, a work that contained 1500 species.
His classification was based on growth habit
together with fruit and seed form, as was that
of Theophrastos.
3.
4. Two Swiss brothers Bauhin (1541–1631;
1560–1624) wrote the work Pinax Theatri
Botanici in 1623. The word Pinax means
register, and the work is a listing of 6000
species.
5.
6. By this time, species were known with many
different names in different books, and Pinax
Theatri Botanici made a welcome order in the
taxonomic world. The Bauhin brothers
recognized genera and species as major
taxonomic levels.
7. The English naturalist John Ray (1627–1705)
wrote several important works through his
life. His most important contribution was the
establishment of species as the ultimate unit
of taxonomy. In 1682 he published Methodus
Plantarum Nova, which contained around 18,
000 plant species, a result of a relatively
narrow species concept.
8.
9. His complicated classification was based on
many combined characters, as opposed to
earlier taxonomists. Ray aimed at publishing
a complete system of nature, which included
works on mammals, reptiles, birds, fishes and
insects, the latter including pioneering
entomological taxonomic work.
10.
11. In France Joseph Pitton de Tournefort (1656–
1708) constructed a botanical classification
that came to rule in botanical taxonomy until
the time of Carl Linnaeus. In 1700 he published
Institutiones Rei Herbariae, in which around
9000 species were listed in 698 genera. He put
primary emphasis on the classification of
genera, and many genera were accepted by
Linnaeus and still in use today.
12.
13. Tournefort's plant classification was
exclusively based on floral characters.
Tournefort's system was the one used by
Linnaeus as a young student, but whereas
Tournefort denied the presence of sexuality
in plants, Linnaeus on the contrary based his
system on that argument.
