6. There are many differences between the colonies. One of the differences was the geography. The New England colonies had pine and hardwood forests, poor rocky soil, and swift unnavigable rivers; the middle colonies had hardwood forests, fertile soil, and large navigable rivers; and the southern colonies had pine and hardwood forests, fertile soil, wetlands, and navigable rivers. Another difference was the government. The New England colonies didn’t want government to control the church and only free white men were allowed to vote and had to be members of the church; the middle colonies were able to choose their lawmakers; and the southern colonies wanted only the people that worked were allowed to get food and they had a good work ethic. Another difference was the major industries. The New England colonies had ship building, whaling, trading, and fishing; the middle colonies had flour milling, farming, shipping, trading, and rifle making; the southern colonies had trading and farming. Finally, the last difference was the major crops. The New England colonies had corn, barley, wheat, rye, and flax; the middle colonies had wheat; and the southern colonies had tobacco, rice, indigo, cotton, corn, and wheat.
