By the end of this lesson, learners should be able

1. Define a home.
2. Define an ideal home.
3. List the components of an ideal home.
4. Explain the factors to consider when choosing
where to construct an ideal home.
5. Describe the dangers associated with poor
homestead.
3. Definition
A home is a definite place to live in.
An ideal home is a well designed functional
house along with its components .
It is also defined as a home that is
designed with all its components that meet
the imaginary standards of excellence, fit
for a model, faultless/ perfect as ideal
beauty.
4. Components of an ideal homestead
Main house:
Large enough depending on the number of
members in the family and finance available.
for living, dining and sleeping purposes.
Well ventilated (doors, windows and vents)
Leak proof roofs.

Smooth walls and height not less than 7 1/2 ft
Separate rooms for sleeping (males and females)
particularly children 7yrs and above.
Floor: spacious, smooth and dust free
Verandah: large enough for resting

Dusty environments can cause respiratory tract
infections.
Transmission of diseases like malaria, dysentery if
surrounding is not kept clean & well drained.
Air borne diseases like tuberculosis, meningitis.
Possibility of accidents if close to roads or in case
of collapsed walls.
Environment pollution if located near sewage
plants or lagoons, refuse heaps.

Destruction to food and other requirements in
the room in case of leaking roofs.
Contamination of water sources if latrines are
not properly located and maintained.
Transmission of zoonotic diseases such as
plague, rabies.
Immoral behaviors can be learnt by children if
the parents and children sleep in the same
house and room.
29. CONCLUSION
For a nation to grow and develop, there
is need to have an ideal home to reduce
/ prevent some common diseases
especially communicable diseases.
