Artificial selection is a process where humans breed plants and animals by choosing individuals with desirable traits to breed and produce offspring, passing those traits to future generations. Over many generations, this directed breeding can produce new varieties or breeds that differ substantially from their wild ancestors, like corn developing from teosinte or the diversity of dog breeds emerging from wolves, providing evidence that evolution can produce new species through natural selection as well.
