The key barriers faced by community energy projects are generally well understood, however, there is much less information available about the actual cost and financing implications of these projects. The FIN-COMMUNITY project seeks to identify, document and assess the cost and financial impacts faced by community-owned renewable energy projects compared to commercial renewable energy projects.

This project aims to address Moldova's challenge of affordable housing through citizen engagement and an innovative housing solution. The project would develop trailer-type housing units on a steel base to provide cheap housing. Citizens, government, NGOs, and media would be engaged. The Ministry of Construction would establish standards and help locate suitable land. Citizens would provide input through focus groups and an online petition platform. The project aims to improve living standards and reduce poverty through increased access to affordable housing and credit. The budget is $150,000 with funding from the government and NGOs/agencies.

On March 22, 2021, 40 members of the rural wealth creation network attended a peer learning event to discuss economic development and workforce development, forestry, and energy. Rural wealth creation, or WealthWorks, is a framework for doing economic development that focuses on building upon assets in the community and connecting to real market demand to create lasting livelihoods in rural communities. This video captures the introductory general session moderated by NADO Associate Director Carrie Kissel, and also reporting out from breakout groups, but not the individual breakout group discussions.

Richard Bacon is the MP for South Norfolk. He served on the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) for sixteen years and was the PAC’s deputy chairman from 2010 to 2017. Based on his PAC experiences, Richard wrote the book ‘Conundrum: Why Every Government Gets Things Wrong - and What We Can Do About It’ (published by Biteback Publishing) and also contributed to the book ‘How to Run a Country’ (published by the Reform think tank). He has lectured widely, including at the London School of Economics and at Saїd Business School, University of Oxford. Parliamentary colleagues have voted him the House Magazine's ‘Backbencher of the Year’ and also ‘Commons Select Committee Member of the Year’ and he has twice been named The Spectator magazine’s Parliamentarian of the Year.
He founded the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Self-Build, Custom and Community Housebuilding and Place-Making, and steered through Parliament a Private Member's Bill which became the Self-Build and Custom Housebuilding Act 2015. He is now Ambassador for the Right to Build Task Force, focusing on implementing the Right to Build legislation.
