Theodor Adorno And The Culture Industry
INTRODUCTION Theodor Adorno and Max Horkheimer are the social Thinkers behind the term
Culture Industry. The ideology was introduced to describe how the capitalist society functioned, in
making everything standard, i.e. standardised products for standardised people. Adorno and
Horkheimer argues that there s a link between culture industry and capitalism. They believe the
products are meant for more than just a profit but also creates people who adapts to the system of the
capitalists (Adorno Horkheimer 1944:31). In the essay I will discuss if whether we are robots or not.
The agency of individuals is the framework of mass media and give a contemporary example of how it
is represented in mass media employing reification, alienation, and instrumental reason. I will also
refer to Althusser s formulation of ideology and how it impacts on the individuals and also refer to
Fredric Jameson s Reification and Utopia to further construct my argument. BODY Are we are robots?
As human beings we are advanced robots. There are chemicals in our brains that control our activities
and our personalities; they make us feel and respond. The intake of chemical substances in our bodies

Theodor Adorno in the Culture Industry: Enlightenment as Mass Deception discusses media as applied
in culture industry and claim that media content is altered for people to buy into it. The manner in
which the content is presented is in an orderly fashion to appease the masses. For the goal of reaching
to the masses to be achieved, the combination of high and low culture tool is utilised, and by so doing
the boundaries between the two are mixed. Adorno suggests that masses are treated as objects of
calculation. People who use media believes that media is all about what they need whilst in reality
culture industry romanticises that sentiment for their own selfish agenda of influence (Adorno

Everyone Needs Dietary Supplements Essay
Everyone Needs Health Supplements
Some people may say, why bother with health supplements? Some people today would like to believe
that all we have to do to keep ourselves healthy is to eat a proper diet. That s where the problem lies.
The question I propose is, What is a proper diet, and how do you go about getting it into your system?
Some would say, Well by eating healthy food. There s another problem. What is healthy food and
where do you find it? You won t find it at your local grocery store as you will soon find out. Others
might say, We have a garden where we grow our food. That s a start, and it also tells me that you are

I know this not just from reading about this issue, or listening about people talk about this issue but
from my own experience. I know what it is like to feel emotionally and physically tired, although I
was eating what some consider a well balanced diet. I was eating all the right foods. However, I found
out that I was not able to get all of the nutrients, vitamins, and minerals that an individual needs to
maintain a healthy lifestyle. Why is that? I would have to consume large amounts of food to meet the
nutritional requirements of my body. Why do I say this? Let me tell you why.
First of all, there is the issue of the nutritional value in the food we eat, or should I say the lack of
nutritional value in the food we eat. There is much evidence available today that clearly states that the
food sources we have are highly deficient in nutritional value.
For a long time the scientific community made light of health supplements. This is no longer true. The
American Medical Association and also the Federal Drug Administration are now singing a different
tune. In fact they are praising the value of health supplements. There is now a new field of nutritional
science specifically for the study of vitamin and mineral supplements.
As I said earlier, one of the most common reasons given for not needing food supplements is, I eat
well balanced meals, I don t need

Reed and Mary Rebecca Boyd (Abbot). the age of 11, Boyd rode a horse into the family s home
during a party to protest her exclusion from an adult dinner party and asked, Well, my horse is old

Myelination Essay
Demyelination Areas of high neuroplasticity also tend to be areas of scarce myelination. As mentioned
earlier in this paper, these areas both tend to reside within the evolutionarily new neocortex.
Neocortical areas exhibit an early and brief myelination cycle as compared to older and deeper brain
areas, which exhibit later and extensive myelination. The axons of the neocortex are long, thin, and
sparingly myelinated compared to other regions of the brain, as observed through Nissl staining.
These Nissl stains verify a pattern of myelination in which the highest cortical areas are the most
sparsely myelinated. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the pattern of neural damage, such as neurofibrillary
tangles associated with AD, follows the pattern of myelination. In other words, these tangles develop
in the areas that are most sparsely myelinated. In contrast, areas of heavy myelination are much more
resistant to stressors that cause neuronal degeneration5. It is believed that areas of decreased
myelination are characteristic of cells retained in their juvenile state. Without the structural encasing
of myelin, these cells are more flexible to changes, and thus have higher plasticity than cells that are
heavily myelinated. Therefore, neurons of the neocortex are likely highly plastic largely because of
their lower degree of myelination. In addition to increasing neuroplasticity, demyelination may
provide ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As the human brain evolved to encompass higher order functions, this increased cortical activity lead
to increased metabolic demands. Broadly speaking, these heightened metabolic demands created
energetic stressors in the brain, thereby amplifying the negative consequences of synaptic plasticity

Empathic Imagery In Keats And Wordsworth
The figure of Wordsworth in an arrogant standing posture must have become a fixture in Keats s mind.
In the Camelion Poet letter written about eight months after On Edmund Kean, Wordsworth once
again appears in a standing posture: in what has become a staple of a formula of Wordsworth
criticism, namely the Wordsworthian or egotistical sublime, Keats gives the definition of a thing per se
and stands alone.(387) In Edmund Kean, Keats mentions Wordsworth by name with the immediate
follow up of from all his comrades he stands alone and his standing alone ness is seen more in the
light of the arrogance of one who is totally self absorbed. Also in Keats s choice of words there is
cunning, even playful, tone of mockery. Keats makes an allusion ... Show more content on

In the Chamber of Maiden Thought letter of May 3, 1818, Keats still looks upon Wordsworth as the
measure against which to measure other modern poets, which even includes Milton. Yet the same
letter also shows that he is ready to pit himself against Wordsworth. His branching out in thought
makes him consider Wordsworth whether or no he has an extended vision or a circumscribed grandeur
whether he is an eagle in his nest or on the wing (124). Then he goes to launch his famous reflection
on life as a Mansion of Many Apartment ; and at the end of it he writes how it shows you how tall I

Full Metal Jacket Essay
Meaning and purpose can be defined depending on the reader and the author that is defining it. The
meaning and purpose of any form of literature is the main point of the piece of work, why it was
created and what the author wants the reader to understand or get from his or her work. As for the
movie Full Metal Jacket, the director, Stanley Kubrick, wanted to have a combination of comedy as
well as a sense of realization when it comes to a soldier becoming a marine and what it takes to be
one. The characters throughout the movie each show a different way of understanding and dealing
with the problems that they had to quickly overcome. Full Metal Jacket is a movie that shows the

If they could not take control of the rate of hazing they received it would be seen as a weakness,
therefore proving that they are not ready for the war. For example, Pyle who was a soldier that as
overweight clumsy and slow witted, could not take the stress and harassment that came with the
training of becoming a marine and he could not endure the embarrassment that was thrown at him
every time he did something wrong, which in turn made him decide to commit suicide as well as
murder Gunnery Sergeant Hartman, the drill instructor who trains the recruits in order to turn them
into marines. Gunnery Sergeant Hartman seemed to have caused all of the anger and frustration that
Pyle had to go through, therefore Pyle s actions proved to the audience and to the marines that were
involved, that not everyone can make it as a marine and may end up losing their sanity over it. The
whole point of allowing the audience to view this is to reinforce the level of maturity that would be
required to fully understand the troubles that comes with being a marine. The first half of Full Metal
Jacket mainly focuses on how much a person can take while preparing for war, being in war, and
knowing how to act and react to certain issues that may come up immediately. Displaying how the
amount of knowledge is achieved and perceived throughout the movie. In The Green Berets,

Market Pressure
Market Pressure * In this era, businesses faces lots of pressure to grow and compete and one of them
are market pressure. Market pressures come from global economy and strong competition, the

the same time, the society is becoming more open. There are more female workers now even in the

Dialysis Lab Report
According to dictionary.com, dialysis is the process by which uric acid and urea are removed from
circulating blood by means of a dialyzer . This is needed when a person has any stage of kidney failure
or other issues pertaining to their kidneys. The purpose of dialysis is for the machine to act as a kidney
and to take away waste, extra water, and salts. This in return helps control blood pressure and keep a
safe level of chemicals in your blood. In this paper I will discuss what it will be like as a dialysis nurse
and important things to know before my observation.
Objective 1: Role of a nurse in dialysis Nurses in dialysis have a variety of different tasks to perform.
Before dialysis occurs, the nurse must check the patient s vital signs while assessing their condition,
educate the patients about their diagnosis and treatment, as well as answer any questions they may
have. During the process it is the nurse s job to watch the treatment beginning to end, check
medications to be given and make sure the medications are correct. After dialysis the nurse must
evaluate the patient s reaction, review the lab work and medications, inform the doctor of any changes,
and support the patient and care team throughout the whole process.

John was born May 10, 1838 on a farm outside Baltimore, Maryland. He was the fifth of six surviving
children. John enjoyed his childhood, but his father was haunted by alcoholism and spells of madness.
His father had often been dismissed as a crazy and drunken actor. Like most children, John aspired to
follow in his father s footsteps; therefore, John blossomed into a performing actor and like his father
suffered from an extreme case of alcoholism. Growing up on a farm in Maryland meant that John had

Some of the doorkeepers and ticket takers recognized John because of his career in acting and former
performances at the theater. When he entered the theater, he shook hands with a man, conversed
briefly, and then entered the door that led to the parquet and the dress circle. The dress circle was the
area in front of the stage intended for actors to stay during the mist of the production. After spending
some time watching the play, John made his way back through the hallway and ascended the staircase
to the first balcony, located on the same level as the VIP box. Mistaken as an usher, John was
welcomed into the box and the door was closed behind him. The box was decorated beautifully; fit for
a king.
You may be thinking John got lucky and enjoyed the rest of the play from the box located on the first
balcony, draped in American flags, and relished in the fine company of the occupants. That is wishful
thinking, here s the rest of the story...
John didn t accidentally walk into the reserved box. He intended to. He carefully planned his entrance
into the theater and into the reserved box carrying a concealed loaded .44 caliber pistol. That night
John visited the theater in Washington DC on April 14, 1865 he enacted one of the greatest tragedies
in American history. John Wilkes Booth murdered the honored guest for the evening performance,

Terrorism Impact On Terrorism
1. Introduction
Twelve years have passed since four coordinated terrorist bomb attacks occurred in central London on
the 7th of July in 2005, conducted by four suicide bombers. Three of the attacks took place in London
Underground trains, on the Circle line near Aldgate, on the Piccadilly line near Russel Square and at
Edgware Road. The fourth bomb attack happened on a double decker bus in Tavistock Square. The
attacks happened during busy rush hour and the was one hour between the three London Underground
train attacks and the attack on the bus. Fifty two people were killed and more than 700 were injured in
the attacks, the bomb attack being the worst terror attack in the UK since the 1988 Lockerbie
bombing. This terrorist attack affected people severely physically, but most of all, emotionally. The
results of a telephone survey done within the general population of London after the July 7th
bombings, show that 55% of 1,010 participants felt their life was in danger from terrorism and 86% of
the participants thought that another attack on London was likely in the near future (Greenberg, Rubin,
Wessely, 2005).
In the past decade, there have been an increased amount of terrorist attacks in Europe, such as terrorist
attacks in Paris in November 2016 and in Manchester Arena in May 2017. Whenever a terrorist attack
happens in Europe, it is widely reported on various media outlets and the extensive media network of
present day allows news to spread quickly. Consequently, even

Light Dbq
Thomas Edison took part in the early 1700 s debate on whether or not light was a wave or a particle.
He argued that light was a particle and not a wave. This debate divided the scientific community
because of the implications it had on how we view the world around us as well as what makes it up.
One of the arguments that light was a particle and not a wave was that the lines that shadows made
were extremely sharp. He argued that if light really was a wave, the edges of shadows would pulsate
or oscillate due to a wave s property of and having crests and troughs. Since he saw no oscillation
throughout his experiments he believed that light could only be a particle. This theory was supported
by lights rectilinear propagation. A simple experiment

The Yellow Wallpaper written by Charlotte Perkins Gilman is a short autobiography story that
illustrates an emotional downturn of the narrator who is also a mother and a wife suffering from post
partum depression. This story establishes an intellectual deterioration in the condition of the narrator
as she searches for peace and negotiation of control in a male dominated world.
The quote If a physician of high standing, and one s own husband, assures friends and relatives that
there is really nothing the matter with one but temporary nervous depression what is one to do?

turns into an obsession and fascinations where she lets out all her imaginations and creativeness onto
the wallpaper. Since she is not allowed to either read or write, we see that the narrator turns her focus
to the yellow wallpaper that is on the wall of her room. And because of her confinement and

The Atlantic Slave Trade was the most devastating forced migration in history. Tens of millions of
Africans were taken from their homes. They were moved by boat to South America, The Caribbean,
and North America. There was a huge loss of life on the way over for many reasons including sickness
and starvation. A considerable amount of the African population was forced into slavery. The Africans
were forced into this because they were immune to a lot of illnesses that killed the natives. The also

Once a student enters the building on their first day of school they long await summer break. Yet,
districts around the nation are changing that, instead of giving a two and a half summer vacation, they

Generally, the first and third sections (A) in ternary form are identically, however, it is common that
compared to the first section, the third section will contain further ornamentation. The second section
(B), tends to contrast dramatically with the first and third sections. Clair de Lune is also extended by a
coda which has been composed using material originating from the second section (B). The piece
mostly continues in the tonic, modulating only in bars 37 42. This means that the sections are
harmonically closed. The sections are as follows:
First section (A): Bar 1 26
Second Section (B): Bar 27 50
Third Section (A) + Coda: Bars 51 72
First Section Analysis:
Clair de Lune is in D flat major and begins with a tonic chord, excluding the tonic note. It is
introduced later on, where the median of the chord (F natural) is doubled. The right hand playing
chord I is supported by the left hand for the first four opening bars. This creates a chord a bar
harmonic rhythm. During these opening bars, the left hand slowly starts to descend while the diatonic
theme is played in the right hand. Debussy uses unconventional intervals, for example, G flat and A
(augmented second) in the first couple of bars. In bar 9, the introduction theme is repeated, this time
including some changes, such as harmonic substitutions and decorations. The F and A flat interval is
then reintroduced with ascending octaves. This phrase is then finished in bar 15,

The Bible By Abel Cain And The Other Abel
In the Bible there is a story of two brothers, one called Cain, and the other Abel. Cain and Abel were
the first humans created by Adam and Eve, who, according to the Bible, were the first humans created.
A day came when Cain and Abel both went to make an offering unto God of their harvest and flock.
Cain s offering of his first harvest of fruits was rejected by God but Abel s flock was not, and out of
hatred and jealousy Cain violently slew his brother. Humanity is not supposed to behave violently
towards one another. Before Cain and Abel, human blood had never been spilled in vain, and from the
spewing of Abel s blood the evil tendencies of man were unleashed into the world. Prior to Abel s
murder, there was no war, man had not fought and sword had not been raised. It was from Cain
punishment, which struck the feeling of hatred and the idea of war to solve problems. The Vietnam
War, also known as the Second Indochina War, was a military struggle fought in Vietnam from 1959 to
1975 between the United States Forces and the Vietnamese army. Vietnam was the first significant war
lost by the United States of America. It was the first war to be broadcasted nightly through television

of the compulsory draft and anti war culture of America. The aftermath of the Vietnam War is the

The Four Concepts Of Symbolic Interactionism
Symbolic interactions are a major part of how we socialize with others. It happens every day without
us even realizing it. There are many concepts that assist in the formation of symbolic interactions, but
to better understand them, we need to apply them to social settings. The four concepts of social
interactionism theory I chose to observe at the social settings of my choosing were; definition of
situation, symbols, front regions, and role playing. These concepts often interrelate as they all are a
part of each other. To better understand these concepts, they were applied to two different social
settings which were the bar and mass at the Catholic church. The concepts will be defined and
reviewed in the order above.
When we refer to definition of situation, we are referring to what the entrance of the social setting
encompasses. We look at what are the norms, the rules, and what is acceptable in that setting. For
example, when I was entering the bar, there were people outside smoking. To be able to walk through
the front doors, there was a man who one had to give an ID to so he could check the age to allow the
person to get in. When I walked through the doors, there were people sitting at tables in groups of
three to five people on the left who would look to see who was entering the bar. On the right side of
the bar, there were four people playing foosball and two people at each pool table. As I continued to
the back, there were people sitting at the bar visiting.

The Imperial complex built in my honor sits on the highest hill of the capitol serving as the city s
architectural focal point and drawing the eye of both the residents and visitors. Meant to symbolize the
expanse of my wealth and power as a ruler, the complex sits above the thriving capital, reminding the
residents of the sole person responsible for the wondrous accomplishments and successes of the
people. The location also helps protect the complex as the defensive walls and watch towers appear
large due to the additions of the hills. To visit my complex, one must travel through the highly
decorated roads of the hills, past beautiful vegetation and scenic views of the countryside. However,
once at the entrance of my complex, a massive gate greets the visitors, and leads them to a small
courtyard, with gardens and decorative fountains. Above the main door, my tugra marks the complex,
visually demonstrating the importance of this site. The main entrance leads into a reception hall, a
long and narrow room with colonnades marking off smaller side rooms for guests to interact and
marvel at the decorations and beauty of the room. Through the utilization of spoila, the columns
appear in various shades of marble, adding to the regality of the space. Muqarnas consistently decorate
the room, as many exist within the niches of the room and on the tops of the columns. Furthermore,
the muqarnas dome found in the center of the hall invokes awe within the viewers, and illustrates both

The Keystone Xl ( Kxl ) Pipeline
In the October of 2015, oil prices have dropped to their lowest since 2008 and Canada has lost over
35,000 jobs, and the value of the loonie has dropped to a mere 77 cents compared to the U.S. Dollar.
As Canada desperately clings onto the failing economy, it turns its attention to The Keystone
Pipelines. The Keystone XL (KXL) pipeline was an idea proposed in 2008 by the TransCanada energy
company, to deliver 830,000 barrels of oil each day beginning in Hardisty, Alberta, and extending
south to Steele City, Nebraska. TransCanada claims to bring more jobs, energy security, and benefit to
the Canadian and American economy. Yet, President Obama denied the proposal in 2015. Although it
was a huge disappointment to Canada, the decision to deny permission for further construction of the
pipeline was the right one. The future of Canada s economy should not rely on the Keystone XL
pipeline, because the devastating environmental risks, the instability of the oil industry, and Canada s
ability to expand other industries.
The main reason President Obama rejected the proposal of Keystone XL was due to environment
concerns. As quoted from Salon News President Obama s decision to deny permission for construction
of the Keystone Pipeline may turn out to be a momentous event in the history of our efforts to protect
our planet from environmental disaster. The construction and use of Keystone XL will greatly risk the
environment, and because of this, it should not be built, and Canada

Climate Change And Resource Scarcity
Climate Change Resource Scarcity
Resources throughout the United States are being exhausted an alarming rate. In fact, 95% of the
original forests in the United States are now gone (DiCaprio).Personally, I think this is a shocking and
eye opening statistic. The statistic really gives you an insight on how much of the natural world
humans have used in order to sustain the lifestyles they currently live. However, people cannot
continue to use natural resources at the current rate because they won t be able to sustain us for the
future. One component that is affecting our resources is climate change. Countries all over the world
are experiencing changes in their climates that have caused droughts and conflicts over natural
resources, such as water and oil. Additionally, a changing climate will cause healthcare systems all
over the world to adapt to treating new diseases (Richardson, et al. 44).
Earth is a planet that has many complex components that work in unison to allow humans and millions
of other species to live on it. Stephen Emmott, author of Ten Billion states, the main components of
the systems are the atmosphere (the air we breathe), hydrosphere (the planet s water), cryosphere (the
ice sheet and glaciers), and the biosphere (the planet s plants and animals (36). Throughout the course
of human history, humans and the Earth have lived in mutual harmony. Humans didn t alter the Earth s

The Sustainability Of Pratt Whitney Canada
In order to compete effectively in the current global economy, modern companies need to successfully
address three competitive challenges: technological, global and sustainability. Human resource
management practices play an important role in supporting companies to address these competitive
challenges. The focus of this paper is to analyze the current sustainability of Pratt Whitney Canada,
and to determine which human resource management practices enhance their competitive advantage
both presently and in the future. Pratt Whitney Canada (PWC) is an aircraft engine manufacturer with
global service operations and is a subsidiary of the American company United Technologies
Corporation (UTC). While many business segments utilize PWC engines, the two primary sectors
include civil and military aviation. With a workforce of approximately 9,000 employees across seven
Canadian plants, PWC has produced over 80,000 engines to date (PWC New Hire, 2014). The impact
of PWC s corporate presence on Canada s economy is reflected in the fact that it contributes, on
average, over $2 billion per year to the country s gross domestic product (PWC Economic Impact,

The Transatlantic Slave Trade Between West Africa And...
Despite the limitations imposed by slavery, Africans and their descendants made substantial
contributions to American culture in agriculture, cuisine, food culture and language. As for Cultural
integration, such actions occurred during the transatlantic slave trade between West Africans and
Central Africans and the European Americans was a forced interaction that cannot be reversed. The
transatlantic slave trade in 1889, established a permanent link between Africa and North America as
Africans sold into slavery transplanted their cultures to the New World. Many assume that because
Africans integrated into American society, they completely assimilated into that culture, but such
assumptions are false. It is imperative to note that integration does not necessitate a total abandonment
of one s culture or complete assimilation into a different culture, but rather, integration embraces
modification of one s culture along with adoption of the practices of the new culture of which one is
integrating into. The African slaves integrated many things and ideas from their cultures, such as food
culture, agricultural style, and language like I spoke about earlier.
One important contribution I reflect on is the power and significance of language. Language can be
defined as the methods of communication, either spoken or written. This is how the cultural
interaction comes into play. In James Baldwin If Black English Isn t a Language, Then Tell Me, What
Is? he implies that different

Character Analysis Of Hannibal Lecter
What makes a villain a villain? Is it the senseless violence inflicted upon the innocent? Or is it the oh

villain? Is it not all just based on our society s views on what is right and what is wrong? After binging
Hannibal, this is pretty much all I could think for several days. One moment you re hoping that

Hannibal makes the romance between Will and Hannibal very tasteful and realistic. Their feelings for
the other grow slowly, there is not one point when you can definitively say that this is when their
feelings begin. It is just an easy, natural progression of their relationship. I admit that the romantic
undertones of Hannibal and Will s interactions were what initially led me to watch the show, but I
ultimately fell for the masterful writing that Bryan Fuller, the creator, created with Mads Mikkelsen.
The NBC revival of Hannibal shows Dr. Hannibal Lecter before Silence of the Lambs, before his
imprisonment. It follows Will Graham, a gifted FBI profiler with the ability to see into the mind of
anyone he chooses. This ability takes a great toll on Will s mental stability and because of this, he is
forced to take on a psychiatrist, Hannibal Lecter (Mads Mikkelsen). Hannibal s initial goal is to
manipulate the FBI from within but he unexpectedly finds himself captivated by Will. Due to Will s
instability, it is easy for Hannibal to push the bounds of Will s mind in order to make him realize his
true, beautiful potential...as a killer ( Hannibal (TV series) ).
The NBC reincarnation of Hannibal deliberately paints a very human monster. In an interview with a
UK magazine, Digital Spy, Mikkelsen says about Hannibal, He s something else. There is no
diagnosis on him. This is a specific character we will never see again . For many of

Analysis Of Sex Pistols Anarchism, Freedom, And Power
During the 1970s, anarchy engulfed the minds of British youth because they felt that authority was
denying their freedom with excessive rules and regulations. William O. Reichert the author of
Anarchism, Freedom, and Power argues Anarchist insists that the idea of human liberty, while it
cannot be made an absolute, must be maintained as the highest of all human values. Freedom, that is
to say is the essential characteristic of a fully developed humanity...Nevertheless it must not be lost

Despite the basic choices in design, the magazines effectively were able to communicate the message
of anarchy to British youth. However, a year later, in 1977, punk bands started to incorporate more
successful design elements. For example, [fanzines] compiled photographs of desolate and graffitied
London landscapes that reflected punk s dystopian vision of No Future ...the graphic design of punk
zines soon advanced to incorporate collage, montage, illustration and a wider colour palette that
contrasted with the simply typed or handwritten black and white aesthetic of most earlier examples.
This stark change in the punk aesthetic is seen London s Outrage, no. 2, 1977, title page and p. 3 (See

building, a young teenager, and the typeset headline that says London s Outrage. The typography of
this layout is quite notable and exudes chaos. For example, the L and the O are cut off by the edge of
the paper. Additionally, the word London is set on a diagonal path which is crooked that leads the
viewers eye to a building. The word Outrage is kinked too, but not nearly as pronounced as London.
On the left side of the magazine spread, there is a photo of a landscape that looks trashed and desolate.

Analysis Of The Bonfire Of The Vanities
In the book, The Bonfire of the Vanities written by Tom Wolfe, Sherman McCoy is one of the many
characters that exhibit internal corruption. Thanks to his position at the very top of the social pyramid,
Sherman McCoy lives a sheltered life and possesses no knowledge about those outside his very
limited circle of influence. As a result, when confronted with a situation far outside his insulated
world, he panics, resulting in the destruction of himself and others. Sherman s ridiculous belief that
insulation is necessary for survival, his egoistic views as well as his greed are the very things that lead
to the death of his insulated lifestyle. One of the very first things Wolfe points out about Sherman
McCoy other than his ongoing affair is his tendency to only associate himself with certain people,
which was mainly with people of high status. On his way to work, Sherman walks towards the taxies
to take one to work. During the ride, he mentions being told that If you want to live in New York, ...
you ve got to insulate ... meaning insulate yourself from those people [referring to the normal, non
masterful breed of people] (54). Sherman s direct correlation to his father and how he still travels to
work by the subway, even as the chief executive officer of Dunning Sponget Leach at the age of
seventy one (54) shows the contrast between their lives and how Sherman views that living a life
where he did not have to associate himself with those out of his breed (54) was essential for survival
in New York City. Sherman getting lost during his drive with Maria from the airport is a prime
example of his lack knowledge of New York outside of Manhattan. Deep into the Bronx, Sherman
could no longer tell where he was going (83). His panic only makes it worse as he is unable to drive
out the area and keeps driving in circles. This shows that his limited knowledge of the world around
him are the root of his issues, since getting lost in the Bronx was the first step to his spiral down to
despair. One of Sherman McCoy s chief flaws is his massive ego. This is shown throughout the book,
where we see that he does not associate himself with anyone other than those he works with, and even
then, does so with those on his

Piaget vs. Vygotsky
The theory of cognitive development is defined as the development of the ability to think and reason.
There are many theorists who have studied cognitive theories and the most famous is Jean Piaget.
Cognitive development covers the physical and emotional stages of a child. The basic premise for
cognitive development is to show the different stages of the development of a child so you can
understand where the child might be in their development. Understanding cognitive development will
better prepare the teacher when it comes to dealing with children and how to handle situations. The
way children learn and mentally grow plays a central role in their learning process and abilities. When

The second aspect of his cognitive development is the Zone of Proximal Development. Vygotsky s
idea of a zone of proximal development is the second aspect of his cognitive theory. A zone of
proximal development describes tasks that children have not learned but are capable of learning. The
zone of proximal development contains things that children may not be able to do alone at the time,
but are on the verge of achieving with some assistance. He believes that learning takes place during
the Zone of Proximal Development. Vygotsky felt it was important to work within the zone proximal
development to achieve maximum learning. Another aspect is Scaffolding, which means providing a
child with a great deal of support during the early stages of development. Scaffolding involves the
final piece of Vygotsky s cognitive development theory. Teachers will be applying both Piaget s and
Vugptsky s theories on cognitive development. When it comes to Piaget s theory a kindergarten
teacher would focus more on how the children are developing and not how the final outcome will be.
If the children are given a finger painting assignment you will want to see how they handle paints and
what they are doing. Teachers will also need to provide learning opportunities that will help them
development in each stage. When you are teaching about shapes

Porter s Five Forces Of Position Analysis
Industry Analysis
Industry is analyzed to compare performance of various industries. As different economies vary in
their performance and the growth potential, similarly industries in an economy can have different
performance levels. Some industries move with the economy, some move opposite to economy. Some
industries are relatively stable with respect to the economy cycle.
Sensitivity to the Business Cycle
Not every industry moves in similar manner with the changes in the economic condition. For example,
During the a time of recession people tend to save money and hence do not buy things they may live
without for example consumer goods like refrigerator. So refrigerator sales would go down drastically

This theory is based on the concept that there are five forces that determine the competitive intensity

Adorno suggests that masses are treated as objects of calculation. People who use media believes that media is all about what they need whilst in reality culture industry romanticises that sentiment for their own selfish agenda of influence (Adorno Horkheimer ... What is healthy food and where do you find it? You won t find it at your local grocery store as you will soon find out. Others might say, We have a garden where we grow our food. However, I found out that I was not able to get all of the nutrients, vitamins, and minerals that an individual needs to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Why is that? I would have to consume large amounts of food to meet the nutritional requirements of my body. Why do I say this? Let me tell you why. First of all, there is the issue of the nutritional value in the food we eat, or should I say the lack of nutritional value in the food we eat. There is much evidence available today that clearly states that the food sources we have are highly deficient in nutritional value. For a long time the scientific community made light of health supplements. This is no longer true. The American Medical Association and also the Federal Drug Administration are now singing a different tune. In fact they are praising the value of health supplements. • 5. Myelination Essay Demyelination Areas of high neuroplasticity also tend to be areas of scarce myelination. As mentioned earlier in this paper, these areas both tend to reside within the evolutionarily new neocortex. Neocortical areas exhibit an early and brief myelination cycle as compared to older and deeper brain areas, which exhibit later and extensive myelination. The axons of the neocortex are long, thin, and sparingly myelinated compared to other regions of the brain, as observed through Nissl staining. These Nissl stains verify a pattern of myelination in which the highest cortical areas are the most sparsely myelinated. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the pattern of neural damage, such as neurofibrillary tangles associated with AD, follows the pattern of myelination. In other words, these tangles develop in the areas that are most sparsely myelinated. In contrast, areas of heavy myelination are much more resistant to stressors that cause neuronal degeneration5. It is believed that areas of decreased myelination are characteristic of cells retained in their juvenile state. Without the structural encasing of myelin, these cells are more flexible to changes, and thus have higher plasticity than cells that are heavily myelinated. Therefore, neurons of the neocortex are likely highly plastic largely because of their lower degree of myelination. In addition to increasing neuroplasticity, demyelination may provide ... In fact, 95% of the original forests in the United States are now gone (DiCaprio).Personally, I think this is a shocking and eye opening statistic. The statistic really gives you an insight on how much of the natural world humans have used in order to sustain the lifestyles they currently live. However, people cannot continue to use natural resources at the current rate because they won t be able to sustain us for the future. One component that is affecting our resources is climate change. Countries all over the world are experiencing changes in their climates that have caused droughts and conflicts over natural resources, such as water and oil. Additionally, a changing climate will cause healthcare systems all over the world to adapt to treating new diseases (Richardson, et al. 44). Earth is a planet that has many complex components that work in unison to allow humans and millions of other species to live on it. Stephen Emmott, author of Ten Billion states, the main components of the systems are the atmosphere (the air we breathe), hydrosphere (the planet s water), cryosphere (the ice sheet and glaciers), and the biosphere (the planet s plants and animals (36). Throughout the course of human history, humans and the Earth have lived in mutual harmony. Humans didn t alter the Earth s natural systems and cycles, and, as a result, humans have had a fairly ... • 31. The Transatlantic Slave Trade Between West Africa And... Despite the limitations imposed by slavery, Africans and their descendants made substantial contributions to American culture in agriculture, cuisine, food culture and language. As for Cultural integration, such actions occurred during the transatlantic slave trade between West Africans and Central Africans and the European Americans was a forced interaction that cannot be reversed. The transatlantic slave trade in 1889, established a permanent link between Africa and North America as Africans sold into slavery transplanted their cultures to the New World. Many assume that because Africans integrated into American society, they completely assimilated into that culture, but such assumptions are false. It is imperative to note that integration does not necessitate a total abandonment of one s culture or complete assimilation into a different culture, but rather, integration embraces modification of one s culture along with adoption of the practices of the new culture of which one is integrating into. The African slaves integrated many things and ideas from their cultures, such as food culture, agricultural style, and language like I spoke about earlier. One important contribution I reflect on is the power and significance of language. Language can be defined as the methods of communication, either spoken or written. This is how the cultural interaction comes into play. In James Baldwin If Black English Isn t a Language, Then Tell Me, What Is? he implies that different ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Hannibal makes the romance between Will and Hannibal very tasteful and realistic. I admit that the romantic undertones of Hannibal and Will s interactions were what initially led me to watch the show, but I ultimately fell for the masterful writing that Bryan Fuller, the creator, created with Mads Mikkelsen. The NBC revival of Hannibal shows Dr. Hannibal Lecter before Silence of the Lambs, before his imprisonment. It follows Will Graham, a gifted FBI profiler with the ability to see into the mind of anyone he chooses. This ability takes a great toll on Will s mental stability and because of this, he is forced to take on a psychiatrist, Hannibal Lecter (Mads Mikkelsen). • 34. Analysis Of The Bonfire Of The Vanities In the book, The Bonfire of the Vanities written by Tom Wolfe, Sherman McCoy is one of the many characters that exhibit internal corruption. Thanks to his position at the very top of the social pyramid, Sherman McCoy lives a sheltered life and possesses no knowledge about those outside his very limited circle of influence. As a result, when confronted with a situation far outside his insulated world, he panics, resulting in the destruction of himself and others. Sherman s ridiculous belief that insulation is necessary for survival, his egoistic views as well as his greed are the very things that lead to the death of his insulated lifestyle. One of the very first things Wolfe points out about Sherman McCoy other than his ongoing affair is his tendency to only associate himself with certain people, which was mainly with people of high status. On his way to work, Sherman walks towards the taxies to take one to work. During the ride, he mentions being told that If you want to live in New York, ... you ve got to insulate ... meaning insulate yourself from those people [referring to the normal, non masterful breed of people] (54). Sherman s direct correlation to his father and how he still travels to work by the subway, even as the chief executive officer of Dunning Sponget Leach at the age of seventy one (54) shows the contrast between their lives and how Sherman views that living a life where he did not have to associate himself with those out of his breed (54) was essential for survival in New York City. Sherman getting lost during his drive with Maria from the airport is a prime example of his lack knowledge of New York outside of Manhattan. Deep into the Bronx, Sherman could no longer tell where he was going (83). His panic only makes it worse as he is unable to drive out the area and keeps driving in circles. This shows that his limited knowledge of the world around him are the root of his issues, since getting lost in the Bronx was the first step to his spiral down to despair. One of Sherman McCoy s chief flaws is his massive ego. This is shown throughout the book, where we see that he does not associate himself with anyone other than those he works with, and even then, does so with those on his ...
