20 Lessons I
learned in my
Career
VSR
2nd May 2013
1
• Your first failure makes you
think hopeless and helpless
and your emotional
imbalance at that time reflect
you very differently than,
what you really are
BOUNCE BACK AT SPEED 2
• What you learn from your
business is good, but what you
learn from volunteer
leadership (by working for non
profit organizations) is GREAT
• VOLUNTEER LEADERSHIP
HELPS YOU TO GROW IN
YOUR CAREER 3
• You never get the people
with the passion, energy and
attitude what you look for.
You need to get the work
done with available people
• LEARN TO GET THE BEST
FROM ORDINARY PEOPLE
4
• Your Body Language plays a
very key role for your
success
• BE MINDFUL, PEOPLE
OBSERVE YOU, WITHOUT
YOU EVEN NOTICING THEM
5
• If 60% of your team accept
you as a leader, you are
great, do not expect 100%
acceptance
• DON’T BE GOOD WITH
EVERYBODY AT THE COST
OF ORGANIZATION
6
• I knew one language called
Telugu when I started my
career, I probably gave 1000s
of speeches/presentations
voluntarily to hone my
speaking skills
• PRACTICE & DRIVE OUT
FEAR 7
• When you join a new company
at senior position, first three
months you just listen,
observe and get accepted by
people. Next three months
show the results
• PEOPLE ACCEPT YOU ONLY
WHEN YOU HAVE GOOD
ATTITUDE & ABILITY
8
• There are always few
(sometimes more) negative
forces work against you at
business. Sensing them and
controlling them proactively
is an art
• UNDERSTAND ECOSYSTEM
AND LEARN TO MANAGE
9
• When you THINK BIG, most
of the people ridicule you,
believe in your thinking and
move forward
• TRUST YOURSELVES
10
• If you do not take
Ownership, Accountability,
Responsibility, Sense of
Urgency, please do not
accept any leadership role
• KNOW YOUR STRENGTH
AND TAKE UP THE ROLE
11
• Your confidence and ability
multiplies many times when
you regularly share your
knowledge with
others, mentor
others, coach others
• LEADER AS TEACHER 12
• Self Branding is very
essential ingredient in
today’s world, but do it in a
very professional manner
• WALK THE TALK and THEN
TALK THE WALK
13
• Everybody (literally
everybody) look for What is
in it for me? Understand &
manage effectively
• MANAGE HIDDEN
AGENDAS = “WHAT IS IN IT
FOR ME” 14
• You might be having great
passion, energy and focus,
but do not except same from
others!
• TUNE YOUR FREQUENCY
..ONE FREQUENCY DOES
NOT WORK 15
• Many people tell lies
(always), be smart to know
what is right and what is
wrong!
• BELIEVE IT WHEN YOU SEE
IT .. DO NOT GO JUST BY
WORDS 16
• You know that you are right
(100%), but others do not
accept it due to some
reasons (!!!).. do not get
trapped …
• LEARN TO MANAGE
SITUATIONS
17
• Do not challenge your boss
publically, even he/she is
wrong! You will taste the
failure
• LEARN THE ART OF
MANAGING BOSS
18
• If you hate to listen
issues, risks raised by your
team, never take-up a
leadership role
• LEARN TO EMBRACE
CHALLENGES
19
• Your confidence,
knowledge on a subject and
assertive nature create
insecurity to your peers and
few times to your boss too
HANDLE WITH CARE
20
• In immature organizations
Whatever great work you do
for many years will be
nullified with one mistake
BUILD CUSHION BY HAVING
FEW WELL WISHERS WHO
ARE ALSO INFLUENCERS 21
