2.  Lab instrumentation: is concerned with
explaining the various instruments, tools,
machines, and devices that are used in the
laboratory.
 Laboratory Instrument is any implement, tool, or utensil
used for laboratory test. An instrument is a device that
measures a physical quantity, such as flow, concentration,
temperature, level, distance, angle, or pressure.
 Instruments may be as simple as direct reading hand-held
thermometers or as complex as multi-variable process
analyzers.

3.  Laboratory equipment: the measuring tools used in a
scientific laboratory, often electronic in nature. Laboratory
equipment refers to the various tools and equipment used
by scientists working in a laboratory.
 Laboratory equipment is generally used to either perform
an experiment or to take measurements and gather data.
 The classical equipment includes tools such as: Bunsen
burners and microscopes as well as specialty equipment
such as spectrophotometers and calorimeters.

6. Why do we study it?

7.  Lab safety is concerned with the techniques that
prevent you from getting injured during laboratory
practices.
 Why study laboratory safety ?
1. To keep ourselves and partners away from being injured
2. To learn how to deal with injuries if any occurred within
the lab
3. To keep our work as accurate and precise as possible

 Safety Rules: Maintain at least a 1-metre distance between
yourself and others
 Make wearing a mask a normal part of being around other
people

 Avoid the 3Cs: spaces that are closed, crowded or involve
close contact.
 Regularly and thoroughly clean your hands with an
alcohol-‐based hand rub or wash them with soap and
water.

 Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth.
 Clean and disinfect surfaces frequently especially those
which are regularly touched.
 Stay home and self-‐isolate even if you have minor
symptoms.
