Initial Reaction
My Initial reaction to the brief was excitement, as I very quickly got an idea of what it was I
wanted to do: A documentary on the daily goings on at a School for Autistic bright young
adolescents. Breckenbrough School. As well as a couple of TV-style trailers for the product. I have
had success in the past with writing and filming scenes for a short film, which should translate
nicely into a feature length documentary. This will include interviews with key staff members,
such as the Headmaster and deputy head, the School Psychologist and the senior teachers. I will
also try to conduct some interviews with the students, as well as giving a general overview of the
School and its history. The documentary will follow an average week at the School, showing the
day to day lives of the students, both daytime attendees and boarders. I do worry slightly as to
whether I will have enough time to film all of the footage needed, as I will only be able to film
during the week, outside of College hours, but I think if I budget my time properly, I should be
able to manage it. The format will be similar to other educational documentaries, Such as the
Bettany Hughes and David Attenborough documentaries. I.e., a presenter tours the audience
around the intended area and gives voiceover information on a specific subject. With interviews
and panoramic shots added in for style. I have a liking and an ability with editing shots together
from the footage that is available, which makes an extended 5-10 minute format ideal for my
style of filmmaking, as I can produce the footage and edit it together quickly, without losing the
initial quality. Overall, I am looking forward to this project, as I think it will give me an opportunity
to be more creative then with any of my other projects.

Music.
I managed to secure the rights to use the music of YouTube artist; Koethe.
Who’s stylistic blend of indie and country music would be perfect for the tone
of documentary I am imagining. This will be very useful for when I am scoring
my final Project.
Mood Board
Mood Board Analysis
There is a repetition in the colour palette and subject matter I have emphasized in
my mood. The Colours are saturated with deep greens, browns, yellows and
oranges. This is the basic colour palette that I think would be ideal for my
documentary, bright, yet subdued. Of course, a lot of this depends on the
weather. As it will be very difficult to film colourful shots on a rainy day.
The subject matter in the pictures often has a focus on either well known
presenters of documentaries, to show where my inspiration for presenting and
formatting the product will come from. adolescents in a schooling environment
and interviewees being questioned, since I will be conducting interviews with
several staff and students, to try and gauge the general opinion on the School. All
of these elements will be hopefully featured in my final major project.
The mood boar will be useful for keeping the style of the cinematography
consistent. As I know what kind of image and colour scheme I want the project to
have. It will also help me to determine the best angles and camera techniques to
use when conducting interviews, or shooting an establishing shot of the building
and surrounding area. As there are many different possible angles shown in the
pictures as well as a few stills of interviews, to show how they can be shot and
where they might take place.

As it will be very difficult to film colourful shots on a rainy day. The subject matter in the pictures often has a focus on either well known presenters of documentaries, to show where my inspiration for presenting and formatting the product will come from. adolescents in a schooling environment and interviewees being questioned, since I will be conducting interviews with several staff and students, to try and gauge the general opinion on the School. All of these elements will be hopefully featured in my final major project. The mood boar will be useful for keeping the style of the cinematography consistent. As I know what kind of image and colour scheme I want the project to have. It will also help me to determine the best angles and camera techniques to use when conducting interviews, or shooting an establishing shot of the building and surrounding area. As there are many different possible angles shown in the pictures as well as a few stills of interviews, to show how they can be shot and where they might take place.
