The Day That Changed My Life And Love Of Volleyball
Sunday February 28th, 2015. I remember that date, as if it happened yesterday. That was the day that
changed my life and love of volleyball. This was the day I got severely injured during a volleyball
tournament. The day had started and gone by painfully slow. Wherever I walked throughout North
High School hallways you noticed volleyball bags, blankets, coolers, food and wrappers all stuffed
into a small corner that a team redeemed as their spot. When I walked back into the muggy hot gym, I
could smell the knee pads, ankle braces, and sweat from all the girls playing. Along with the sound of
whistles from referees and the agonizing squeaking sound of the shoes moving against the gym floors.
My team and I made our way to an empty ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I went into an approach and tipped the ball right over the block but their setter got a pancake (A dig in
which the player gets the ball up by placing a flat hand on the ground (palm down) and letting the ball
bounce off the back of his or her hand) and their right side hitter took the second ball and got an assist
(Passing or setting the ball to a teammate who attacks the ball for a kill.) to their outside and she then
pushed the ball over to the deep back right corner and our setter luckily got there just in time and our
libero then assisted the ball to me, but it was too low to do anything, so I sent a freeball over. (A ball
that will be returned by a pass rather than a spike.) They easily passed that ball and they tried to run a
fast offense and do a quick set, (a set (usually 2 above the net) in which the hitter is approaching the
setter, and may even be in the air, before the setter delivers the ball.) but I realized it right away and
went up to block and I got it, but their coverage was where it needed to be also and they got the ball
up. After doing that their setting came up and dumped (The setter dump is an attack in which the setter
becomes an offensive threat to score points and cause a distraction to the opponent s block and floor
defenders. It is often used as an emergency tactic for tight passes.) She ended the point with that
because my team didn t read it in time and couldn t pick it up. We then came together in a short team

Daniella Salawu What disorder(s) do you think Sonya is likely experiencing? Provide support for the
diagnosis/diagnoses you make, walking me through your reasons. Specifically, you might outline what
is needed to meet diagnostic criteria and explain how the patient fits these criteria. (10pts) Sonya is
likely experiencing obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD). It is the disorder that exhibits recurrent
obsessions and/or compulsions (Nevid pg. 189). Obsessions are recurrent and intrusive thoughts (189).
In this case study,Sonya admitted that she was a lifelong worrier. She also states that she repeatedly in

Synthesis Essay On The Impact Of Marketing On Children
Marketing has always had an impact to the future of our children because children can be approached
in easy manners. As marketing continues to digress among children, spending on them seems to
increase due to the way the ads and merchandise is presented. I believe marketing towards youngsters
is a positive benefit into our economy and pursuing positive behavior.
Nowadays brands have developed a technique called pester power that s supposed to encourage
children to watch what they consume, join any sports or activities, and make them be socially aware of
their well being. Positive pester power has been known to be used in Nickelodeon where famous
shows like Spongebob, Victorious, and the Fairly Odd Godparents are watched among children.
According to Source B, positive pester power can be used so children can encourage their parents to

Research Paper About Juveniles
Problem Statement: Poor education, low school attendance, peer pressure, disadvantaged
socioeconomic status, and substance abuse are a few factors that have the greatest impact upon the
commission of crimes by juveniles. These factors could possibly drive a young person to commit
crimes. I strongly feel that the social learning has contributed a major role in the juvenile world from
negative influences. Once those negative influences are within the youth, they then display their
actions within their criminal behavior. Overall, it is very concise that the propensity for criminal
behavior begins prior to adulthood. Peer pressure is a big influence on our youth today. Survey stated,
out of 1,000 youth, 10% of that 1,000 stated they have not been

Urosalpinx cinerea, Atlantic Oyster Drill
The latin name Urosalpinx cinerea Urosalpinx is a genus of small carnivorous gastropod mollusks.
The scientific classification is:
Kingdom: Animalia Creatures in the Animalia Kingdom must be multicellular, heterotrophic (they
have to ingest other organisms because they cannot make their own food), and Eukaryotes (type of
cells that are more complex than prokaryotic cell found in bacteria).
Phylum: Mollusca The Atlantic Oyster Drill is in the Phylum Mollusca because it possesses the
features necessary for membership in this phylum. It is a free living aquatic form, its body is soft with

bores a neat round hole through a valve, making expert use of its sandpaper like radula. Through this

Scientist H. Federighi studied the effects of salinity on the size of Urosalpinx cinerea. In
1927,Urosalpinx cinerea were collected to figure out the average size of the species from two different
places: Norfolk, Virginia and Beaufort, North Carolina. The average size of each group of the snail
was identified, and it turned out the average sizes were very different in the two places. In Norfolk, the
average length was between 21 and 25 millimeters, yet in Beaufort the size was 13 to 17 millimeters.
It was then that Federighi began to look into the effects of salinity.
Immediately, the temperature of the two places could be ruled out as the cause for this size variation
because the temperature doesn t really vary between the two places. However, the salinity of the two
areas do differ greatly. The results of his experiment indicated that the snails grow larger in brackish
water, water that has more salinity than freshwater, but less than seawater.

Summary Of Incidents In The Life Of A Slave Girl
Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl is a slave narrative written by Harriet Jacobs, and was published
by Barnes Noble Classics in New York City circa 2005. The book is an autobiography of Jacob s life,
however she uses a sort of code name, which is Linda Brent.
Summary
Linda Brent was born to slaves, but she was unaware that she was a slave until she was about six years
old. Her father was a carpenter by trade, and he was quite good at it. During the first six years of
Linda s life things were normal, and William, her younger brother, and she lived a happy life.
Nevertheless, when she turned six things changed for the worse. Linda and William s mother had died
that year, and that was when she finally understood who she was, a slave. After the tragic death, Linda
was taken under her mother s mistress s wing. Even though her mother had died, her new mistress
filled the void and became her second mom. Linda had a great six or so years with her mother s old
mistress and her new mistress, but she too tragically died. This left Linda with a new mistress, and this
one was only five years old, so in reality she was the property of her masters, and his name was Dr.
Flint.
Dr. Flint purchased Linda and her brother William, and he was a very cruel ... Show more content on

The book was well written in chronological order, which made for an easy read. This book is
extremely enjoyable and telling, and it allows readers to find themselves really sympathizing and
empathizing with Linda and her family. The one thing that I think Jacobs could have done differently
is not using different names for the characters. To me the book would have been a thousand times
more personable had she chosen to use her real name, and her family s real names. However that does
not in anyway take away from the power and sadness that her personal story

Edward Livingston Voices Of Freedom
Until the 1770s most colonists believed themselves to be the freest political system humankind has
ever known (Foner 73). Overtime conflict began as tension began to build between the colonists and
British authority due to many factors one including a series of acts meant to punish the colonies for
their defiance against Great Britain. Over time this led to the fight for the independence of the thirteen
colonies also known as the revolutionary war.
In voices of freedom the author of article twenty three , Edward Livingston established the difference
between a limited monarchy and absolute monarchy. Livingston s believed that any person in his
senses should prefer a limited monarchy. Stating that absolute monarchy caused the whole country to

These were passed as a form of punishment for Massachusetts after throwing a large tea shipment into
the Boston harbor. These measures destroyed the legitimacy of the imperial government in the eyes of
many colonists as these laws not only effected Massachusetts but they also angered other colonies.
Disagreement and resistance quickly began to spread across small towns and rural areas to those who
were not previously part of the resistance. soon in 1774 a colonial protest group was born known as
the sons of liberty which also helped pave the way to the spark of rebellion. Another big part in
inspiring colonist to fight for freedom was a pamphlet titled common sense written by Thomas Paine.
This pamphlet explained the need for independence in a way most would understand. Paine developed
a new style of political writing which helped include more people in political discussion. It quickly
became the most successful and most influential pamphlets in the history of political writing. In his
writings Paine stated plain and simple facts such as many of the struggles between England and

African-American Independent Filmmaking History
Something I found interesting about the lecture on African American Independent Filmmaking
History, from 1915 to 1950, is how many African Americans went to entertain in the North after the
Civil War. If I had gone north, I would have wanted to be out of the spotlight. It is already horrible
enough African Americans had been in chains for so many years. Why would freedmen go onstage
and make fun of it when nothing about slavery is funny? Slavery should indeed be addressed this
country was built on immigration and slavery however, it should not be ridiculed. Yet entertainers
went onstage to make fun of themselves and of their ancestors, and everyone who died so that they
could live in freedom.
Before the Civil War, slave owners would claim ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Most film portrayals I have seen, most famously Birth of a Nation, show African Americans as lustful,
lazy, violent, and unintelligent. In fact, in D. W. Griffith s entirely racist Birth of a Nation, African
Americans in the film, played by actors in blackface, continuously disrupt the peaceful nostalgic way
of life of the south after the war. Eventually, filmmakers such as Oscar Micheaux, W. E. B. Dubois,
Herb Jeffries, and Lorenzo Tucker sought to put an end to the racist films by making race films where
African Americans acted in, wrote, shot and directed their own films. However, this wasn t enough.
Some race films reverted back to racist films, where African Americans were making fun of
themselves, just to turn a profit. I liked The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari. It reminded me of some of my
favorite Tim Burton films. Burton s style is gothic and sometimes mind bending. This makes him one
of my favorite directors. His films, like Edward Scissorhands (1990), Sweeney Todd: The Demon
Barber of Fleet Street (2007), and Dark Shadows (2012), make me unsure of who to root for at times.
And one of his first films, Vincent (1986) is one of those films that made me unsure of just who was
going mad, or if the protagonist was even alive by the story s

Interracial Marriage In The 19th Century
Interracial Marriage In today s society interracial marriage is not something that many people oppose,
but perhaps they encourage it. Interracial marriage is when two people from different racial or ethnic
groups join in marriage. In the 19th century people did not marry outside of their own race. It was
prohibited. I will be comparing and contrasting interracial marriage from the 19th century to the 21st
century,to explain that love sees no color, the effect on their children, and the beauty of joined ethnic
groups.
Over time, people have been discouraged about who they love and the color of their skin. Today

Great Expectations Social Class
Class is one of the many issues we face in this world, and often some of the worst traits are found in
people of high social class. Now, some believe that this is how they were brought up, others believe it
is their personalities, or a combination of the two. In Great Expectations, Pip is often made out to be
not the kindest or most caring of people. Some attribute this to his social class, however, this is not the
case. Pip pushed his old friends out of his life because of his lack of empathy and maturity in regards
to his position in life, not solely because his new social standing pushed him towards these conditions
In combination with his new social class, Pip s lack of empathy shows itself in how he ¨deals¨ with
Joe. As Joe visits Pip ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Very Early in the book, Pip was thinking to himself about how he stole food to feed the Convict on the
marsh, and he thinks how ... if Joe knew it, [he] never afterwards could see [Joe] glance, [...] at
yesterday s meat or pudding [...], without thinking that [Joe] was debating whether [he] had been in
the pantry. (40) , and much later in the book, when Pip was in London, after acknowledging his
connection to Joe he still feels ...considerable disturbance, some mortification, and a keen sense of
incongruity, and if he ...could have kept him away by paying money, [he] certainly would have paid
money. (209) Dickens shows that no matter if Pip has low or high social class, he will still act the
same. This means that, even if social class played some part in how Pip has acted throughout the book,
the root issue is Pip s inherent immaturity and lack empathy. Pip s lack of maturity and empathy
pushed his old friends out of his life, in cohorts with, but not solely because of his new social class.
This is because Pip s absence of empathy pressures Joe in particular, out of his life. Pip s lack of
maturity shows in how he ¨deals¨ with Joe. Social class did not determine how Pip acted. Social class
was the sole reason Pip acted this way, social class pushed Pip to be the way he is. Social may have
been involved, but it was Pip s personality is the main factor that was involved in the whole losing
friends and being a jerk

The Life And Writing Career
This paper investigates the life and writing career of British J.M. Barrie. He was a great British author
who gained success rapidly. This essay elaborates on the story behind his famous play Peter Pan; the
true influence and reasons why he wrote it. The writing style of J.M. barrie is spread through different
types of genres. Reviews and criticism of the play were very positive back then and are still very
positive now for Peter Pan. Audiences from all over the world still adore this play. Today, it still has a
major impact on society, great movies are still being produced of Peter Pan. Sequels of Peter Pan have
also been made into movies. The legacy in which he left behind is astonishing.

Barrie was born on May 9, 1860 in Kirriemuir Forfarshire, Scotland. He graduated Edinburgh
University in 1882 (J.M. Barrie), and later moved to London to pursue his passion in playwright (J.M.
Barrie Biography). He also worked as a journalist before. Barrie was already a hit for his many
successful novels, books, and plays. He liked to take long walks in London s Kensington Garden, and
there he met the five brothers who inspired his most famous play. He was very fond of the Llewelyn
family, and often play around with them (J.M. Barrie Biography). Barrie took care of them after their
parents passed away and became their guardian. The boys names were George, Jack, Peter Michael,
and Nicholas. It is said that the story Peter Pan was to entertain the boys. Barrie then made it into a
play to help support them after he had taken them in. Peter Pan then became a huge success.
Writing Career
Barrie explored many genres in his writing career. He went from being a weaver s son to writing
novels, books, and plays; he also challenged himself to write different genres (Avery, G). His first
book, Auld Licht Idylls in 1888 was successful along with his several books, and novels. After 1897,
he focused more on writing for the theatre, in which later he wrote Peter Pan. Peter Pan was first
performed in London on 27 Dec. 1904 (Barrie, J.M.). An excerpt from Peter Pan When Wendy grows

sands were first mined in 1967 and ever since they have done a great deal to Alberta s economic
stability. The issue is that all good things have a bad side as well. Some main disadvantages to the oil
sands is that natural habitats get destroyed, creates greenhouse gas emissions which are harmful to
humans and the environment and the issue of is it more environmentally friendly to use another source
for energy such as methane?

Some pros of the oils sands are they made Canada the biggest supplier of oil to the US which allowed
for the beginning of a fruitful economic partnership. The oil sands are also a stable source of energy
due to the oil sands being the second largest site in the world. Alberta has flourished due to the oils
sands which creates thousands of jobs for locals. On the downside there are also cons to every project.
Some disadvantages to the oils sands are since the oil is so deep underground; the process of
extraction is very carbon intense which creates more greenhouse gas. Thousands of bird species have a
loss of their breeding grounds due to the fact that the mining operation is located where the breeding
ground used to be. As of right now and our rate of consumption of oil we have approximately only 40
years worth of oil left. Some people say that we rely on the oils sands too much and eventually we will
have to find a new source of energy. I say, for now it s fair to say that we will have an issue in the
future about energy but for as of now it is not a huge problem. In my opinion, the pros outweigh the
cons on the sole fact that we have this resource at our disposal and we might as well take advantage of
what God has given us. From what I understand is that we are also reconstructing the landscape once
we are finished with the sites so the native species will be able to inhabit the area once

Perspective Of Panchali
New Perspective of Panchali in Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni s The Palace of Illusion
Abstract: In The Palace of Illusion, Divakaruni portrays Panchali as a bold, powerful and independent
woman, an equal to the men and not subservient. She presents Panchali s life as a series of choices
made by her and giving her a voice in the overwhelmingly patriarchal society that was ancient India.
Divakaruni interprets the epic Mahabharat which provides a complete narrative. She gives a stronger
role to the women of the story, and portrays them as equals in society. This paper aims at the new
perspective given to Panchali by Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni. Draupadi has been portrayed mostly
negatively in Hindu society in India and we will fail to find girls being named after her. Many believe
that it was her headstrong actions that brought about the destruction of the Third Age of Man. She is
known to be a kritya one who brings doom to her clan. But Divakaruni moves away from such
interpretations to provide a new outlook of Panchali.
Key words: Perspective View point, Patriarchal Relating to a system run by male in society,

most constructions of Draupadi, in both literary and non literary texts, she is seen as a prey of
patriarchy which is perpetuated by the dominant discourses of the time. In Divakaruni s version,

Neoassociation Theory Research Paper
Bushman, B. J. (2002). Does venting anger feed or extinguish the flame? Personality and Social
Psychology Bulletin, 28(6), 724 731. Introduction The theory of catharsis sheds light on the act of
releasing anger through a process known as venting; this theory believed that if those negative
attitudes were left bottled up, it would lead to a destructive rage. However, past experiments have
shown that participants who were given the opportunity to release their anger turned out to be more
aggressive than those who did not act on their anger. Current research has concluded that venting
anger can minimize physiological arousal, but only by conveying their anger against the provocateur
and believing that they will not react against them.
Neoassociation theory completely rejects the catharsis theory by stating that venting increases angry
feelings and primes you to behave aggressively. Contrary to what the media and most self help books
say, ruminating while irritated has been shown to increase anger because those thoughts are still in
memory. Previous research has found that ruminating while indignant increases feelings of anger and
that distracting oneself can aid in decreasing unpleasant emotions. Two additional experiments
discovered that rumination increased displaced aggression proceeding a minor triggering event.
Researchers have discovered that the best thing to do while angry is to do anything but think or act on
your negative emotions. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Essay about Religious Paths
Religious Paths
While examining different religious paths within Hinduism from the perspective of four patterns of
transcendence (ancestral, cultural, mythical and experiential) it is interesting to see how each pattern
found its dominance over four segments of Hinduism: Vedic sacrifice, the way of action, the way of
devotion and the way of knowledge.
When Hinduism originated as a religion it was mainly concerned with sacrifices for ancestors. The
sacred texts called the Vedas on which Hinduism was based were the main root of the many different
branches of Hindu philosophy. The Vedas originated around 1400 1200 BC. They consisted of several
different documents, the oldest of them called the Rigveda. The Rigveda is considered to ... Show

Eventually the attempts of the Vedic texts to satisfy people s need to have contact with the sacred
reality have become insufficient. Even though the sacrifice was a way to
3 control the cosmos and insure well being in the world of ancestors, it did not provide the means of
liberation from the realm of maya: reality which Hindus lived in but thought of it as an illusion.
Following the age of Vedas people of Hinduism looked for happiness through the way of action. The
way of action could be very well considered an example of cultural transcendence. The main doctrine
of such philosophy told that one must do all the tasks presented to him/her by the place in society and
social status; and the result of such rightful life would be the rebirth into a better social position.
With time the way of action philosophy became less satisfactory for its followers, since it seemed to
lack the total liberation from the infinite cycle of death and rebirth.
As Hindu religion became more complicated and people began to look for total liberation from the
circle of death and rebirth the segment of Hinduism known as the way of devotion came into
existence. Followers of the way of devotion based their beliefs on the myths about gods such as Shiva,
Vishnu and Krishna. These gods were believed to be a manifestation of ultimate reality. Believers in
the way of devotion were supposed to worship their god through sacrifices and rituals devoting their
lives to the belief

Porn and Censorship
Pornography and Censorship
Should the government be allowed to legitimately prohibit citizens from publishing or viewing
pornography, or would this be an unjustified violation of basic freedoms?
Traditionally, liberals defended the freedom of consenting adults to publish and consume pornography
in private from moral and religious conservatives who wanted pornography banned for its obscenity,
its corrupting impact on consumers and its corrosive effect on traditional family and religious values.
But, in more recent times, the pornography debate has taken on a somewhat new and surprising shape.

Other sexually explicit representations depict acts of violent coercion: people being bound, whipped,
beaten, tortured, penetrated by objects, mutilated, raped and even killed. Some sexually explicit
material may be degrading, without necessarily being overtly violent. This material depicts people
(most often women) in positions of servility and subordination in their sexual relations with others, or
engaged in sexual acts that many people would regard as humiliating. Some sexually explicit material
involves or depicts children. Some portrays bestiality and necrophilia; and so on.
On the first definition of pornography as sexually explicit material, all such material would count as
pornography, insofar as it is sexually explicit. But this simple definition is not quite right. Anatomy
textbooks for medical students are sexually explicit they depict exposed genitalia, for example but are
rarely, if ever, viewed as pornography. Sexual explicitness may be a necessary condition for material
to count as pornographic, but it does not seem to be sufficient. So something needs to be added to the
simple definition. What else might be required?
Here is a second definition. Pornography is sexually explicit material (verbal or pictorial) that is
primarily designed to produce sexual arousal in viewers. This definition is better: it deals with the
problem of anatomy textbooks and the like. Indeed, this

The Tunnel By William Gass
Some people believe that lies will always be bitter in the end, no matter how sweet you make them in
the beginning. In William Gass The Tunnel, he expounds the validity of this belief by taking the reader
on an emotionally evolving journey, as he recounts the self realization of a young boy, who s
frightening lie unravels in front of not only his own eyes, but also the readers. Gass successfully
enriches this story with striking imagery, symbolism, and comparisons; exposing how no matter how
sweet you make a lie in the beginning, it will always turn bitter in the end.
The first paragraph plays an imperative role in the excerpt, for it introduces the reader to the emotional
despondency of the boy. William Gass successfully strikes the reader from the beginning, for his two
word opening, lime slush (line 1), prompts the reader to not only envisage a lime slush, but also taste
its sugary sweetness. However, the sweetness this imagery provides is short lasting, for they are soon
bombarded with countless caesuras, as he describes how slush is supposed to be water. That s what
slush is. It certainly isn t sherbet! It wasn t a nice green. And there didn t seem to be that much of it.
(lines 2 3). The disappointment that entrenches the boy in these short but concrete statements,
successfully introduces the reader to his emotional bitterness, for not even the lime slush s sweetness
can sweeten it. The colour imagery does not stop there, for he describes how strawberry always

Employment generation through construction of rural roads, and ground water and minor irrigation to
support food security received much higher priority compared to need to enhance logistics to support
industrial growth and improving overall economic efficiency.
In five year plans a major goal was to connect all villages (with population of more than 1,500
inhabitants) with rural road network; however, this was done through minimum needs program
supporting employment creation and leading to waste and inefficiency. Most of the roads thus created
did not meet quality standards because fiscal space was not adequate to accommodate both the
demand for resources for rural roads and also the national highway network which was getting
congested. Even in the case of power sector, village electrification was a priority so as to provide
power for the farms, but not necessarily to households. Emphasis on connectivity, without
improvements in overall economic efficiency meant unsustainable financial burden on the government
budgets. In the time of slower economic growth or external shocks such as wars and high oil prices,
infrastructure investments were major casualty. China with its high economic growth rates and higher
savings rates was able to allocate much larger resources for investments in general. In the 1980, China
saved 35% of GDP whereas India s savings rate was less than half at 15.5%. This combined, with

The Book Drive Is A Non Fiction Book By Daniel Pink
Drive is a 2009 non fiction book by Daniel Pink. Pink, a law student and former speech writer for Vice
President Al Gore, explores widely accepted social science research, but he also claims it is widely
ignored. Throughout the book, Pink compares the evolution of people s motivation over time to the
evolution of computer operating systems. He asserts that people have progressed from Motivation 2.0
(carrots and sticks) to a new operating system, Motivation 3.0, of whose main elements are autonomy,
mastery, and purpose. Pink also explores the dangers not upgrading from Motivation 2.0 as well as
some how to s on developing, honing, and harnessing Motivation 3.0.
Pink provides a well laid out case highlighting the gap between what science knows and what
organizations do. Showcasing the mid century work of Harry Harlow and Edward Deci , Pink explains
how human motivation seems to run counter to what most scientists and citizens believe. For decades,
we have believed that we know what motivates people: rewards. Rewards are supposed to intensify
interest and enhance performance. But Harlow and Deci found different results. Deci wrote, When
money is used as an external reward for some activity, the subjects lose intrinsic interest for the
activity. Like a shot of espresso, rewards can give you a jolt of energy, but the boost wears out,
moreover, it can erode a person s longer term motivation to engage in the task. As we continue to
incentivize our staff and students,

If you have sex then you must know something can happen and you are risking having a child. If you
decide to keep the child you must realize that your years of being a kid are basically over. You will
have many more responsibilities as a teen with having a child then just a regular teen! You will have to
get a job to support yourself as well as your child. That could even mean quitting school. The solution
to pregnancy for teenage girls is one of these choices: abortion, adoption, or raising the child yourself.
No matter which is chosen, there will be an emotional cost. Choosing abortion or adoption usually
means that the woman isn t prepared to become a parent and knows it. Children need diapers, food,
toys, medical care, clothes, and many other things. Most teenagers cannot afford to buy all those
things and still pay for themselves. When teens choose abortion they can eventually go back to living
their old lives. In the past few decades, abortion has become very common! Since abortion is so
common these days, the adoption rate has decreased rapidly. The questions that adoption agencies ask
are much tougher than ever before. When teens put their children up for adoption they have the option
of still seeing them. A down side to adoption is that the girl will still have to go through nine months
of being pregnant. If you choose to raise your child then you have to get a job and make enough

Alcohol Dependence
Alcohol is the most commonly used and highly abused drug in the world. In the United States alone,
17.6 million people suffer from alcohol dependence, or better known as alcoholism. Alcoholism is a
chronic, progressive disease marked by a growing compulsion to drink and impaired control over
drinking that eventually interfere with health and social behavior. It is an addiction that effects more
people than just the alcoholic. Over 100,000 Americans die as a result of alcohol abuse. Results prove
that alcohol played a role in half of the homicides, suicides and traffic deaths in the United States. It is
estimated that alcohol causes 30% of automobile fatalities in the United States (Yi et al., 1999).

Another reason why alcoholics drink is to get rid of their problems. Famous American comedian Joe
E. Lewis said, I drink to forget I drink. They use alcohol as a way to cope with stress and problems
that may occur in their lives. They believe that they are better off when they are drinking because that
is when they don t have to deal with the troubles in their life. They rely on alcohol to take care of their
problems. Alcoholics also feel like they have to drink to feel good. Physiological dependence occurs
when the body adapts to the high use of alcohol and requires this level of use to feel right or maintain
its balance. Tolerance to alcohol is one form of physiological dependence. Tolerance means that after
continued drinking, consumption of a constant amount of alcohol produces a lesser effect. The higher
a person s alcohol tolerance, the more alcohol it takes to have the same effect as smaller amounts of
alcohol used to have on them. Going through withdrawal from alcohol is another type of physiological
dependence. Alcohol withdrawal refers to symptoms that may occur when a person who suffers from
alcohol dependence suddenly stops drinking alcohol. Some withdrawal symptoms include anxiety,
insomnia and many physical symptoms. (Bayard, Mcintyre,2004) One popular way to help somebody
who suffers from alcohol dependence is to give them an intervention. There are a few treatments for

Essay On Deepening Insolvency
Originally only a theory of damages, the term Deepening Insolvency refers to the wrongful
prolongation of a corporation s life beyond insolvency, thereby resulting in damage to the corporation
caused by increased debt, dissipation of assets, decreased reputation etc.
Insolvency is generally understood, from a balance sheet perspective, as a financial condition such
that the sum of the entity s debts is greater than the fair value of a company s assets. What deepening
insolvency cases have also focused on, however, is cash flow insolvency when a company incurs debt
that would be beyond its ability to pay in future years and low capital insolvency when a company

In an article written by Sabin Willet, it was stated that a new loan, however onerous or ill advised, can
never deepen balance sheet insolvency. Every new loan involves an infusion of capital that sets off the

insolvency; their injury is total upon the initial insolvency. The dead cannot get deader. Although a
corporation s creditors may be harmed by deepening insolvency, the creditors are not the corporation;
that they may suffer harm as a corporation s insolvency deepens does not mean that the corporation
does. If deepening insolvency were valid, a cause of action would also have to exist for diminished
solvency.
Not all cases agreed to the judgment of Lafferty case. In the judgment of In re Global Serv. Group

The Decision Between Quantitative And Qualitative Data
One of the most important parts of establishing a research design involves the decision between
quantitative and qualitative data. Each has its own strength and weaknesses that any successful
research design must account for. Perhaps one of the easiest distinctions between the two rests in the
sample size. While quantitative data normally involves a large n, or sample size, qualitative data
involves a much smaller sample size in comparison. This smaller sample size allows qualitative
researchers to focus more on each case, increasing the internal validity of the research, but limiting its
external validity. Quantitative based research designs reverse this. The large sample size of
quantitative data often makes it difficult for researches to establish causation among the independent
and dependent variable(s). The external validly of such designs usually offsets this issue to some
extent. Due to their large nature, and use of numerical data, quantitative research is much more
replicable when compared to their qualitative counterparts. Unfortunately, the struggle between
internal and external validity is a fundamental part of research. Even efforts to combine the two
methods to form a mixed methods research design ultimately fail to nullify the issue completely.
Keeping this in mind, a quantitative analysis is the most logical given the specific research question
and the data available. This chapter seeks to prove that there is a statistically significant difference in

My Plan for the Chicago Bulls New Season
The Chicago Bulls have been in Chicago, Illinois since 1966 when they joined the NBA as an
expansion team. The Bulls took over the basketball scene in Chicago by winning games and having a
great fan base to come to games. The Chicago Bulls since when they first started playing at Chicago
Stadium dubbed Madhouse on Madison they were winning games and making it to the playoffs. The
Bulls did run into a slump stretching from 1976 till about 1989. Their slump turned around when the
Bulls hired Phil Jackson to be the new head coach after going through 6 coaches before Jackson. They
also had acquired top players such as: Michael Jordan in 1984, Scottie Pippen and Horace Grant in
1987. The Bulls were rebuilding their team and making a plan to keep them from losing revenue and
fans. The Bulls this season went 48 34 and clinched a playoff spot for the thirty third time since
joining the league in 1966. Their season came to end when they lost in game 5 at home to the
Washington Wizards. They were a healthy team at the beginning of the season when Derrick Rose
returned from being out due to knee surgery, but his return did not last long. The Bulls lost their key
player for another season after Rose injured his right knee in November of 2013, a whole year after

newer concept than organic produce as it has only come into place since 1950s, where before this all
food was originally organic grown. Non organic farmers have at their disposal an arsenal of over 320

damage to mammals that could lead to cancers, developmental problems and birth defects. They re

The Effects of Forgiveness on Mental Health Essay
Forgiveness has been defined in many ways by psychologists and researchers with no one universal

forgiveness involves a willingness to abandon resentment, negative judgement and indifferent
behaviour towards the person who has hurt them Although research is recent, from the last 15 years, it
has helped develop our understanding of forgiveness . Research has shown that forgiveness gives

  • 2. The Day That Changed My Life And Love Of Volleyball Sunday February 28th, 2015. I remember that date, as if it happened yesterday. That was the day that changed my life and love of volleyball. After doing that their setting came up and dumped (The setter dump is an attack in which the setter becomes an offensive threat to score points and cause a distraction to the opponent s block and floor defenders. It is often used as an emergency tactic for tight passes.) She ended the point with that because my team didn t read it in time and couldn t pick it up. We then came together in a short team huddle to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Research Paper About Juveniles Problem Statement: Poor education, low school attendance, peer pressure, disadvantaged socioeconomic status, and substance abuse are a few factors that have the greatest impact upon the commission of crimes by juveniles. These factors could possibly drive a young person to commit crimes. I strongly feel that the social learning has contributed a major role in the juvenile world from negative influences. Once those negative influences are within the youth, they then display their actions within their criminal behavior. Overall, it is very concise that the propensity for criminal behavior begins prior to adulthood. Peer pressure is a big influence on our youth today. The average size of each group of the snail was identified, and it turned out the average sizes were very different in the two places. In Norfolk, the average length was between 21 and 25 millimeters, yet in Beaufort the size was 13 to 17 millimeters. It was then that Federighi began to look into the effects of salinity. Immediately, the temperature of the two places could be ruled out as the cause for this size variation because the temperature doesn t really vary between the two places. However, the salinity of the two areas do differ greatly. The results of his experiment indicated that the snails grow larger in brackish water, water that has more salinity than freshwater, but less than seawater. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The book is an autobiography of Jacob s life, however she uses a sort of code name, which is Linda Brent. Summary Linda Brent was born to slaves, but she was unaware that she was a slave until she was about six years old. Her father was a carpenter by trade, and he was quite good at it. During the first six years of Linda s life things were normal, and William, her younger brother, and she lived a happy life. Nevertheless, when she turned six things changed for the worse. Linda and William s mother had died that year, and that was when she finally understood who she was, a slave. After the tragic death, Linda was taken under her mother s mistress s wing. Even though her mother had died, her new mistress filled the void and became her second mom. Linda had a great six or so years with her mother s old mistress and her new mistress, but she too tragically died. Why would freedmen go onstage and make fun of it when nothing about slavery is funny? Eventually, filmmakers such as Oscar Micheaux, W. E. B. Some disadvantages to the oils sands are since the oil is so deep underground; the process of extraction is very carbon intense which creates more greenhouse gas. Perspective Of Panchali New Perspective of Panchali in Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni s The Palace of Illusion Abstract: In The Palace of Illusion, Divakaruni portrays Panchali as a bold, powerful and independent woman, an equal to the men and not subservient. She presents Panchali s life as a series of choices made by her and giving her a voice in the overwhelmingly patriarchal society that was ancient India. Divakaruni interprets the epic Mahabharat which provides a complete narrative. She gives a stronger role to the women of the story, and portrays them as equals in society. • 22. Neoassociation Theory Research Paper Bushman, B. J. (2002). Does venting anger feed or extinguish the flame? Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin, 28(6), 724 731. Introduction The theory of catharsis sheds light on the act of releasing anger through a process known as venting; this theory believed that if those negative attitudes were left bottled up, it would lead to a destructive rage. However, past experiments have shown that participants who were given the opportunity to release their anger turned out to be more aggressive than those who did not act on their anger. Current research has concluded that venting anger can minimize physiological arousal, but only by conveying their anger against the provocateur and believing that they will not react against them. Neoassociation theory completely rejects the catharsis theory by stating that venting increases angry feelings and primes you to behave aggressively. Contrary to what the media and most self help books say, ruminating while irritated has been shown to increase anger because those thoughts are still in memory. Previous research has found that ruminating while indignant increases feelings of anger and that distracting oneself can aid in decreasing unpleasant emotions. Two additional experiments discovered that rumination increased displaced aggression proceeding a minor triggering event. Researchers have discovered that the best thing to do while angry is to do anything but think or act on your negative emotions. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When Hinduism originated as a religion it was mainly concerned with sacrifices for ancestors. The sacred texts called the Vedas on which Hinduism was based were the main root of the many different branches of Hindu philosophy. The Vedas originated around 1400 1200 BC. Following the age of Vedas people of Hinduism looked for happiness through the way of action. The way of action could be very well considered an example of cultural transcendence. The main doctrine of such philosophy told that one must do all the tasks presented to him/her by the place in society and social status; and the result of such rightful life would be the rebirth into a better social position. With time the way of action philosophy became less satisfactory for its followers, since it seemed to lack the total liberation from the infinite cycle of death and rebirth. As Hindu religion became more complicated and people began to look for total liberation from the circle of death and rebirth the segment of Hinduism known as the way of devotion came into existence. Some sexually explicit material may be degrading, without necessarily being overtly violent. This material depicts people (most often women) in positions of servility and subordination in their sexual relations with others, or engaged in sexual acts that many people would regard as humiliating. Some sexually explicit material involves or depicts children. Some portrays bestiality and necrophilia; and so on. On the first definition of pornography as sexually explicit material, all such material would count as pornography, insofar as it is sexually explicit. But this simple definition is not quite right. Anatomy textbooks for medical students are sexually explicit they depict exposed genitalia, for example but are rarely, if ever, viewed as pornography. Sexual explicitness may be a necessary condition for material to count as pornographic, but it does not seem to be sufficient. So something needs to be added to the simple definition. What else might be required? Here is a second definition. Pornography is sexually explicit material (verbal or pictorial) that is primarily designed to produce sexual arousal in viewers. This definition is better: it deals with the problem of anatomy textbooks and the like. Indeed, this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 25. The Tunnel By William Gass Some people believe that lies will always be bitter in the end, no matter how sweet you make them in the beginning. In William Gass The Tunnel, he expounds the validity of this belief by taking the reader on an emotionally evolving journey, as he recounts the self realization of a young boy, who s frightening lie unravels in front of not only his own eyes, but also the readers. Gass successfully enriches this story with striking imagery, symbolism, and comparisons; exposing how no matter how sweet you make a lie in the beginning, it will always turn bitter in the end. The first paragraph plays an imperative role in the excerpt, for it introduces the reader to the emotional despondency of the boy. William Gass successfully strikes the reader from the beginning, for his two word opening, lime slush (line 1), prompts the reader to not only envisage a lime slush, but also taste its sugary sweetness. However, the sweetness this imagery provides is short lasting, for they are soon bombarded with countless caesuras, as he describes how slush is supposed to be water. That s what slush is. It certainly isn t sherbet! It wasn t a nice green. And there didn t seem to be that much of it. (lines 2 3). The disappointment that entrenches the boy in these short but concrete statements, successfully introduces the reader to his emotional bitterness, for not even the lime slush s sweetness can sweeten it. The colour imagery does not stop there, for he describes how strawberry always ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Employment generation through construction of rural roads, and ground water and minor irrigation to support food security received much higher priority compared to need to enhance logistics to support industrial growth and improving overall economic efficiency. In five year plans a major goal was to connect all villages (with population of more than 1,500 inhabitants) with rural road network; however, this was done through minimum needs program supporting employment creation and leading to waste and inefficiency. Most of the roads thus created did not meet quality standards because fiscal space was not adequate to accommodate both the demand for resources for rural roads and also the national highway network which was getting congested. Even in the case of power sector, village electrification was a priority so as to provide power for the farms, but not necessarily to households. Emphasis on connectivity, without improvements in overall economic efficiency meant unsustainable financial burden on the government budgets. In the time of slower economic growth or external shocks such as wars and high oil prices, infrastructure investments were major casualty. China with its high economic growth rates and higher savings rates was able to allocate much larger resources for investments in general. Pink, a law student and former speech writer for Vice President Al Gore, explores widely accepted social science research, but he also claims it is widely ignored. Throughout the book, Pink compares the evolution of people s motivation over time to the evolution of computer operating systems. He asserts that people have progressed from Motivation 2.0 (carrots and sticks) to a new operating system, Motivation 3.0, of whose main elements are autonomy, mastery, and purpose. Pink also explores the dangers not upgrading from Motivation 2.0 as well as some how to s on developing, honing, and harnessing Motivation 3.0. Pink provides a well laid out case highlighting the gap between what science knows and what organizations do. Showcasing the mid century work of Harry Harlow and Edward Deci , Pink explains how human motivation seems to run counter to what most scientists and citizens believe. For decades, we have believed that we know what motivates people: rewards. Rewards are supposed to intensify interest and enhance performance. But Harlow and Deci found different results. Deci wrote, When money is used as an external reward for some activity, the subjects lose intrinsic interest for the activity. Like a shot of espresso, rewards can give you a jolt of energy, but the boost wears out, moreover, it can erode a person s longer term motivation to engage in the task. That could even mean quitting school. The solution to pregnancy for teenage girls is one of these choices: abortion, adoption, or raising the child yourself. No matter which is chosen, there will be an emotional cost. Choosing abortion or adoption usually means that the woman isn t prepared to become a parent and knows it. Children need diapers, food, toys, medical care, clothes, and many other things. Most teenagers cannot afford to buy all those things and still pay for themselves. When teens choose abortion they can eventually go back to living their old lives. In the past few decades, abortion has become very common! Since abortion is so common these days, the adoption rate has decreased rapidly. The questions that adoption agencies ask are much tougher than ever before. In the United States alone, 17.6 million people suffer from alcohol dependence, or better known as alcoholism. Alcoholics also feel like they have to drink to feel good. Physiological dependence occurs when the body adapts to the high use of alcohol and requires this level of use to feel right or maintain its balance. Tolerance to alcohol is one form of physiological dependence. Tolerance means that after continued drinking, consumption of a constant amount of alcohol produces a lesser effect. The higher a person s alcohol tolerance, the more alcohol it takes to have the same effect as smaller amounts of alcohol used to have on them. Going through withdrawal from alcohol is another type of physiological dependence. Alcohol withdrawal refers to symptoms that may occur when a person who suffers from alcohol dependence suddenly stops drinking alcohol. Essay On Deepening Insolvency Originally only a theory of damages, the term Deepening Insolvency refers to the wrongful prolongation of a corporation s life beyond insolvency, thereby resulting in damage to the corporation caused by increased debt, dissipation of assets, decreased reputation etc. Insolvency is generally understood, from a balance sheet perspective, as a financial condition such that the sum of the entity s debts is greater than the fair value of a company s assets. What deepening insolvency cases have also focused on, however, is cash flow insolvency when a company incurs debt that would be beyond its ability to pay in future years and low capital insolvency when a company engages in a transaction or business that its capital base cannot support. Although a corporation s creditors may be harmed by deepening insolvency, the creditors are not the corporation; that they may suffer harm as a corporation s insolvency deepens does not mean that the corporation does. • 36. The Decision Between Quantitative And Qualitative Data One of the most important parts of establishing a research design involves the decision between quantitative and qualitative data. Each has its own strength and weaknesses that any successful research design must account for. Perhaps one of the easiest distinctions between the two rests in the sample size. While quantitative data normally involves a large n, or sample size, qualitative data involves a much smaller sample size in comparison. This smaller sample size allows qualitative researchers to focus more on each case, increasing the internal validity of the research, but limiting its external validity. Quantitative based research designs reverse this. The large sample size of quantitative data often makes it difficult for researches to establish causation among the independent and dependent variable(s). The external validly of such designs usually offsets this issue to some extent. Due to their large nature, and use of numerical data, quantitative research is much more replicable when compared to their qualitative counterparts. Unfortunately, the struggle between internal and external validity is a fundamental part of research. Even efforts to combine the two methods to form a mixed methods research design ultimately fail to nullify the issue completely. Keeping this in mind, a quantitative analysis is the most logical given the specific research question and the data available. This chapter seeks to prove that there is a statistically significant difference in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

They are clearly portraying that organic food should be purchased and consumed over non organic food. They convey the message that non organic food is relatively a newer concept than organic produce as it has only come into place since 1950s, where before this all food was originally organic grown. Non organic farmers have at their disposal an arsenal of over 320 pesticides and they use them routinely. Evidence links some of these pesticides with developmental damage to mammals that could lead to cancers, developmental problems and birth defects. They re claims that these pesticides are all below safe limits, but it is all very suspicious, whereas organic produce is hardly ever found with any traces of harmful pesticides or food additive as they are only available to very limited numbers.
