Examples Of Irony In Good Country People
What is a Good Country Person? Who makes the decision in whether a person is good or not. Is there
such thing as good person? When a person thinks that they are always good, it probably means that
they are are lying because no one person is perfect. Although there is no such thing as a perfect
person, often times people are sometimes perceived to be perfect or better than they really are.
Perception is the ability to see, hear, or become aware of something through the senses. In her article
on the morality of perception, Gayman acknowledges, Unlike mere recognition, perception requires
the work of the intelligence and demands careful observation and engaged attention (1). Being able to
perceive the character of a person is necessary if a person wants to fully trust another person. In Good
Country People by Flannery O Connor, irony, symbolism, and characterization are used to prove that
one s perception of something or someone is not always reliable.
Irony is the expression of one s meaning by using language that usually means the opposite. Typically
in literature, irony is used in emphatic sense. There is a multitude of irony in Good Country People.
The character s names of this story are incredibly ironic. Joy Hulga is ironic because she is the furthest
from being joyful. Another example is, Mrs. Freeman. She is not free because she has been hired and
enslaved by Mrs. Hopewell. Another type of irony in Good Country People is how Joy Hulga s
intelligence causes

Sir Edward Elgar Essay
There is music in the air, music all around us, the world is full of it and you simply take as much as
you require Sir Edward Elgar. Elgar was one of the 19th century s most famous composers. He
devoted his life to writing musical pieces such as Enigma Variations, The Dream of Gerontius, and the
Pomp and Circumstance Marches. Certain personality aspects of Elgar, such as his wit and creative
humor, are found in his music and set him apart from the other composers of his time. Elgar was born
in the small village Lower Broadheath England to a music dealer. He was the 4th of 7 siblings and was
very precocious. Elgar grew up reading the writings of Voltaire and Longfellow, and began taking
piano and violin lessons at age 8. Elgar ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Interestingly enough Elgar enjoyed working for the asylum. Elgar soon traveled to Leipzig Germany
and Paris France where he spent most of his time attending concerts. During his travels he became
greatly influenced by Richard Wagner who was a famous composer of the time. This inspired Elgar to
increase his following and to publish some of his pieces. He often found himself financially unable to
accomplish this goal. At age 29 he met Caroline Alice Roberts who was the daughter of General Sir
Henry Roberts. She began taking music lessons from him and they married 3 years later. Although she
was 8 years older than Elgar, and her parents did not approve, she had faith in him and married below
her class . With his wife s support he kept pursuing his dreams of becoming a famous composer. After
several unsuccessful music ventures Elgar began to become popular in the 1890s. Most of his work
came from choral festivals and such, but his fame did not arise until his first major orchestral work the
Enigma Variations. Elgar wrote several other pieces that I mentioned earlier, but I will focus on the
enigma variations because it is my favorite. This piece is especially unique because it is made up of 14
variations which each represent a friend of Elgar s. The piece uses music to describe each individual,
or as Elgar stated my friends pictured within Sir Edward Elgar. For example, the first variation

The Importance Of Accountability In The Military
Amongst many principles with which men and women of the military must abide by, the concept of
maintaining accountability of your personnel is possibly the most important concept not just within
the military itself, but around the world within any occupation. Keeping proper accountability of your
personnel covers yourself, as well as giving those above you the luxury of being at ease knowing that
their persons are all present and accounted for. Accountability manifests itself both in real life and in
fiction. Real life accountability ranges from keeping tabs of where a student is in school and extends
to keeping track of emergency personnel in life or death situations. Teachers knowing where a student
is, such as them being sick and not coming to school that day or keeping tabs on them while on a field
trip keeps them at ease knowing their students are all accounted for and nobody was left alone when
they need a chaperone. In a life or death situation, such as recovery and life saving operations after a
hurricane or earthquake, the police, fire department, even the coast guard need to maintain
accountability of their officers and other personnel as well as the people they have recovered from the
wreckage. Although these real world examples are merely just examples of what accountability is
needed for, however people need to know exactly why it is needed in business and in the field.
Possibly the most important result of maintaining accountability of yourself, your

Persia Assyrian culture does not share this. The Egyptians were the first to have animal rights, they

Critique Of The Help By Kathryn Stockett
Critique of Fiction Novel
The Help was published in 2005 by Kathryn Stockett. It was her first novel and it takes place around
1962 in Jackson, Mississippi where Stockett grew up. Stockett takes inspiration from the segregation
she witnessed in her hometown and the African American maid Demetrie, with whom she grew up
with, to write a passionate yet controversial novel in which she depicts the struggle between whites
and blacks along with the emotional struggle that the main characters endure throughout the novel.
The Help has been widely renowned yet disputable as Stockett uses the different aspects of life in the
south that she grew up with to write a fictional yet realistic account of the segregation during the
period of the Civil Rights Movement.
The Help is told from the point of view of three characters: two African American women, Minny who
is a cook, and Aibleen who is a maid and a white woman named Eugenia Skeeter Phelan. Stockett
uses the three characters in first person narrative to depict not only the differences in the lives between
whites and black, but also how their lives were intertwined in the sense that they end up helping one
another even though the time period was one of separation and segregation. As the novel progresses,
Skeeter, an aspiring writer, wants to write an exposition about the lives of Aibleen and Minny and
other African American maids living in the south and the porous conditions that they endure in their
daily lives. This is the main

Cheyanne s Behavior
During week two, Cheyanne only took karate class on Wednesday. She started off her week by giving
her mother trouble while getting ready for school in the mornings, and an overall lack of discipline
and focus at home. On Wednesday her mother recorded that Cheyanne knew she was going to karate
class that day, and her focus and studies show great improvement. Her mother also recorded that her
respect, discipline, and control had greatly increased on Wednesday compared to the start of the week.
It was also recorded that the day after she took her class, Cheyanne showed great improvement in her
behavior. Towards the end of the week, Cheyanne s behavior slowly began to drop back to arguing
with her brother and not complying with instructions given by her parents. It is obvious that since she
took the class in the middle of the week it made her behavior those days much better than the
beginning and end of the week. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Prenatal Drug Abuse
When considering making changes to the laws that stand today, one should think about everyone
affected in the situation. The mother is not always the only one that is affected, but the child, other
family members, and the government also get involved. The number of tests that are run need to be
changed; it will help to keep the drugs away from the fetus if the mother knows that she is going to be
tested. Also, the child should be taken away from the mother if drugs are found in the body during
gestation. If the law would prosecute mothers for doing drugs, it would limit the amount of money
spent by the government. On the other hand, the law could prosecute a mother for child abuse. The
baby s life is in danger because of the mother s actions, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When a child is affected from the mother using drugs during gestation, the child suffers for an infinite
amount of time, so states should consider rethinking the laws to better support the child, not the
mother. A child suffers with a numerous number of issues for eternity whenever his or her mother uses
drugs during pregnancy. On the other hand, a child that is effected should have the rights to not live
with the person who harmed him. Child abuse should be illegal in every state, not just the few that
have made it illegal, and the mother should be tried and prosecuted. Along with keeping the child safe,
prosecuting the mother also ensures the child to having a better life. The child will not have to worry
about being made fun of, suffering from terminal diseases, and losing a parent to drug use. The child
is more likely to live a healthier life if law enforcement can do away with the drug using mother. The
laws that are in effect today are not feasible in most circumstances. The laws do not push through
enough, and they are not strong enough to keep the drugs away from the child. That being said, more
children are being affected day by day. The enforcement of the laws against prenatal drug abuse, in the
United States, is important to the children of

The Negro And The Racial Mountain
Langston Hughes was an African American poet, social activist, novelist, and playwright. His works
are still studies, read, and, in terms of his poems and plays, performed. He is best known for being a
leader of the Harlem Renaissance. Within his works, he depicted black America in manners that told
the truth about the culture, music, and language of his people. Besides his many notable poems, plays,
and novels, Hughes also wrote essays such as The Negro Artist and the Racial Mountain which
Hughes gives insight into the minds of middle class and upper class Negroes. Prior to reading this
essay, I never heard of, nor did I know, Langston Hughes composed essays, much less an essay that
outwardly depicts aspects of life that most are accustomed to and see nothing wrong with. The Negro
and the Racial Mountain formulated this view that Langston Hughes was more than a poet who wrote
about jazz music as he is depicted within grade school textbooks, but instead, a man who had a great
passion for the African American race to develop a love for themselves and for non African American
audiences to begin to understand how the African American race can be strong and creative despite
struggles that may be occur. There is a possibility that this essay, The Negro Artist and the Racial
Mountain, is not more commonly known because it has the ability to make the reader uncomfortable,
no matter if he is an African American or white. For the African American, one can find himself

Review Of The Trail Of Tears
The Trail of Tears was a challenge since it was both a dramatic change (by losing each tribe s
traditional land, plants, and animals, as well as their horses being confiscated or killed [to prevent
escape] and their cattle being seized in order to discourage the temptation of absconding to live
independently) and a traumatic exploit (many tribes lost over half of their population). I picked this
topic because I have always wondered what exactly happened during this trek, how far they travelled
(where they came from and where they ended up), and how they were treated. The Indians, numbering
about 16,000, were forced off their lands when Georgia citizens and the president of the US ignored
the decision from Worcester v. Georgia. Almost 4,000 Indians died on the trail (including those
victims who died in the stockades awaiting forced transportation), in order to empty their tribal lands
and make them available for new white settlers. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

some of my favorite books have been about Indians, and my favorite thing to do besides reading
books about Indians was to watch old westerns (starring John Wayne) that focused primarily on
Indians and the threats or advantages that their presence offered with my dad and my brother (because
my mom has always been petrified at the very thought of Indians). This paper will review and discuss
various aspects about the Trail of Tears written by Gary L. Cheatham, John J. Dwyer, Natalie Joy,

A Girl Of The Limberlost Analysis
In the novel A Girl of the Limberlost by Gene Stratton Porter, there lies in the pages the themes of
nature and moths, both intrinsic motifs sunk deep into the bones of the storyline. The beauty and
elegance of nature is viewed by the characters as a direct manifestation of the hand of God. As such,
the characters in the story basked in the glory of the outdoors and spent most the time perusing the
surrounding areas around their homes. Each character in the novel had a different relationship to
nature. For some, such as nature was a way to find inner peace. For others, nature represented the
turbulence and wildness upon which the course of life took you. Specific places out in the surrounding
environment novel also had a noteworthy part in the theme of nature. And then you have characters in
which nature played a more significant role such as Elnora and her mother Mrs. Comstock s life. The
focal point of the story is focused on the heroin Elnora Comstock with her collection of moths and her
crotchety mother Mrs. Comstock. Elnora is a poor necessitous girl who receives no support from her
mother. This is due to the fact that Mrs. Comstock blames Elnora for her husband s death by
asphyxiation in the limberlost swamp. All of the nurturing and care she had came from Margaret and
Wesley Sinton. The lack of care and support from her mother led Elnora to have to pay for her own
education. She managed to collect the funds she needed by selling her rare

I started education at the age of five and continued till I graduated with a BA degree in Eritrea.
Unfortunately, due to well founded fear of persecution I escaped Eritrea to Sudan illegally. More
precisely, I refused to become a victim of the evil treatment by the regime in Eritrea. Saying even a
word against the government in Eritrea, however, is considered as a grave crime in the eyes of the

The Effect Of Self- Control On Children
An experiment that explores the self control in children. A way to test one s willpower and the
willingness to delay gratification in order to achieve a higher goal. These statements all fit into what
Walter Mischel was trying to prove in his Marshmallow Test. This experiment was based on the effect
marshmallows and other sweets have on children and their willpower when it comes to waiting to
have it. With this purpose, the view of human nature that is felt presently, will change profoundly. The
key to success comes from direct correlation of self control and willpower because after all, self
control is a central function of [understanding] the self (Baumeister). Walter Mischel was a
psychologist who focused on personality structure, process, and development, and in self regulation
(Plous). His primary interests, when looking at his studies, all include the relation to the mind, and its
effect on action. They consist of emotion, mood, motivation, goal setting, self and identity, and social
cognition (Plous). The fact that his studies all relate to each other, gives an advantage when creating
an experiment. The advantage is the fact that he will be comfortable with what is being studied and the
results that come in. With the background of looking at goal setting and motivation that he has, it
gives this experiment more credibility as a whole. The test was put in place to be made toward kids
and their reactions when it comes to having a plate of treats such as

When one looks at how the media continues to communicate...
When one looks at how the media continues to communicate certain messages to the American public,
it is remarkable how some trends have continued for decades. This is particularly true concerning
images and graphics and the subtle messages that they carry in the world of print communications.
The unfortunate reality is that the media is no different from many institutions in American society in
that it has to sell products to the public in order to stay financially stable. As a means of doing so, the
media provides audiences with images that often satisfy their desires and meet their expectations.
Consequently, the inclusion of such stereotypes creates a vicious cycle as the audience continues to be
exposed to such messages and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The country will always know about African American basketball players who reside in coastal cities

Furthermore, the inclusion of the scantily clad cheerleaders on both covers suggests that it is the girls
responsibility to keep their man s physical talents top secret. As both Larry and Doug are positioned in
a traditional masculine manner by having their brawny arms flexed around their hips, the cheerleaders
surrounding them are bending down to show off their sexy and fit bodies. The message remains
through the decades that in terms of our athletic heroes, it is the women s job to serve the supporting
role of serving in their best interests. As Potter explains, the media has remained just as influential as
it ever has in terms of reaching a vast number of people. People continue to spend more and more time
with the media. Over the past three decades, every new survey of media use has shown that the
average person is increasing exposure every year (Potter 5). With such rampant exposure, the
institution of the media has become only more powerful in its efforts to disseminate messages that
perpetuate stereotypes and reinforce the audience s previously held beliefs. Unfortunately, Sports

The Chilean Poet Pablo Neruda
The poems by the Chilean poet Pablo Neruda remain significant in contemporary times through their
use of continuing poetic love metaphors and discussion of love. This analysis focuses on Neruda s
language and word choice itself in the absence of a historical, political or even a highly contextual
personal examination. His love poems in particular, such as in his books One Hundred Love Sonnets,
Twenty Love Poems and a Song of Despair and The Captain s Verses all help one in viewing the world
anew via the approach of the poems towards intricate surrealist imagery and passionate emotion as
well as the forms and stages of love.
The selected poems use repeating natural images alongside similarly recurring romantic emotions. For
example, Tonight I Can Write the Saddest Lines portrays the speaker s feelings of loss and poignant
longing (Karmakar, 2015 p3) in the descriptions of the fractured night, with the night wind , infinite
sky and blue stars continuing the image of an lonely evening. The hopeful reflection of morning is
indicated with the lines that fall on the soul like dew on the grass . Alongside this, the subject whom
the speaker is referring to is mentioned as having a bright body as well as describing her huge, still
eyes . Longing is a constant theme in Neruda s poems, his is the same with the poem s view on love,
with finality in the relationship as well as uncertainly with this poem ending in closure saying, these
are the last verses I write for her .

How Steinbeck Uses Two of His Characters to Explore the Role of Power in Of Mice and Men by
John Steinbeck The two characters that I have chosen to examine for exploring the role of power in
the novel are Slim and Curley. Slim is a highly skilled mule driver and the acknowledged prince of the
ranch. Slim is both respected and admired by all of the men he works with. In the book it says that
Slim s opinion in law and that Slim don t need to wear no high heeled boots to say that he is superior
over the others because that s how the men see him anyway. He is seen as the leader in the bunkhouse

Slim has natural power; his authority is gained through respect of the other men. They come to him
voluntarily to ask his advice and to talk to him. Slim s height is also used to reflect his status and
shows us that even though he could have physical power over the men, he chooses not to, instead he
respects them. Slim is seen as the leader by the men even though it seems that he is equal to them. The
fact that Slim is very modest seems to make him even more powerful. The relationship between Slim
and the men is symbiotic because he gives them as much respect as they give to him. Carlson stepped
back to let Slim precede him. This shows that the men are willing to let Slim go before them, because
of the relationship that they have, and it appears to happen in a natural way. There is a big difference
in the way that Slim and Curley use their power. Slim does not abuse the power he has, unlike Curley.
Slim if fairly equal to the other men as he wears the same type of clothes, works hard and sleeps in the
bunkhouse along with them. I think that this makes the men respect him more as he is one of them and
does not see himself as superior to them. Curley wears boots to make himself stand out and does not
work like the others do. He also sleeps in the house away from the other men and this makes him think
that he is superior over the other men.

Taking a Look at Impressionism
What Impressionism Sought to Achieve By the year 1863 the sentry which allows the visual messages
transmitted by the eye to penetrate to the brain only after a rigorous censorship, had admitted most
aspects of visual truth, but there were two that had not yet officially passed the censor. They were (1)
the colour and vibration of light and (2) the density of air. No one had ever painted the true colour of
sunshine and shadow, and hardly anyone had thought it worthwhile to suggest that the density of the
air is not always constant, that a picture could be painted, for instance, of a landscape seen through a
heavy mist or fog. But both these visual discoveries were, fundamentally, subheadings of a larger
discovery. What the Impressionists did, almost without knowing it, was to realize the phenomenon of
transitoriness. The artist who carries his canvas out into the open air and attempts to record every
nuance of what his eye sees is in a very different frame of mind from the artist who constructs his
picture in his studio from a series of preparatory sketches or studies. His eye may not be more
searching but it becomes conscious of a different set of visual data. He becomes less and less
concerned with the nature of the object figure or landscape he happens to be painting, and more and
more conscious of the appearance of the object at a particular moment of time. For Monet, at work on
a picture of Rouen Cathedral, what his eyes encountered was not a Gothic

Work Breakdown Structure
Work breakdown structure
A Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) in project management and systems engineering, is a tool that
defines a project and groups the project s discrete work elements in a way that helps organize and
define the total work scope of the project.[1]

Example of a work breakdown structure of an aircraft system.
A Work breakdown structure element may be a product, data, a service, or any combination. WBS also
provides the necessary framework for detailed cost estimating and control along with providing
guidance for schedule development and control. Additionally the WBS is a dynamic tool and can be
revised and updated as needed by the project manager.[1]

History
The concept of the Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) developed with the Program Evaluation and
Review Technique (PERT) in the United States Department of Defense (DoD). PERT was introduced
by the U.S. Navy in 1957 to support the development of its Polaris missile program. [1] While the
term work breakdown structure was not used, this first implementation of PERT did organize the tasks
into product oriented categories.[5]
By June of 1962, DoD, NASA and the aerospace industry published a guidance document for the
PERT/COST system which included an extensive description of the WBS approach. [6] This guide
was endorsed by the Secretary of Defense for adoption by all services.[7] In 1968, the DoD issued
Work Breakdown Structures for Defense Materiel Items (MIL STD 881), a military standard
mandating the use of work breakdown structures across the DoD. [8] This standard established top
level templates for common defense materiel items along with associated descriptions (WBS
dictionary) for their elements.
The document has been revised several times, most recently in 2005. The current version of this
guidance can be found in Work Breakdown Structures for Defense Materiel Items (MIL HDBK
881A).[9] It includes guidance for preparing work breakdown structures, templates for the top three
levels of typical systems, and a set of common

relation to population, ethnicity, cultural practices, political affiliation, and etc. When accounting for
variables in different geographical areas statistics can play a big role in the creation and
implementation of new policy as well as making changes to policies which already exist. One policy
which may stand out and has had an impact all over the country is the reformation of investigating
officer involved critical incidents. Of course with any policy there will be some pros and cons the
criminal justice system will have to work with.
As with most critical incidents, local, state, and federal agencies gather, analyze and use statistical
data in order to identify potential alarming trends and to determine whether or not any reform is
needed. It is reasonable to state that situations involving officer involved shootings qualify as critical
incidents; therefore, the statistical data regarding these incidents should be carefully and methodically
analyzed.
Utilization of the Federal Bureau of Investigation s Uniform Crime Reporting database serves as a tool
to retrieve statistical data in regards to these incidents (UCR Officer Involved Shootings, 2016). In

Problematic Issues Caused by Acid Rain Essay
Problematic Issues Caused by Acid Rain
Acid rain has been problematic to the earth s environment for many years in North America. What is
Acid Rain? What causes Acid Rain? How is Acid Rain damageable to the Earths soil? Acid Rain is
rain that contains a high concentration of pollutants, chiefly sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxide,
released into the earth s atmosphere by the burning of fossil fuels such as coal and oil.
(Definition.com) Acid Rain has been known to cause damage to vegetation and soils, animals and
humans. There are two types of Acid Rain: Wet Deposition and Dry Deposition. Wet Deposition refers
to acidic rain, fog and snow. Dry Deposition occurs in dry climates, where acid chemicals may

It pollutes the air when bad exhaustion comes out of the tails pipes of a vehicle. Most cities have a law
emission test requirement for vehicles that reside in the city. Rural areas, such as where I live, do not
require an emissions test. I believe that every vehicle that is sold to consumers, it is tested before it is
sold. Meanwhile, buses in New Mexico are using natural gas to transport people; it burns clear and
regular gas is dirty. Automobile designers have invented electric cars that do not cause harm to the
earth s environment. Hopefully in the far or near future everyone will be driving electric cars. With the
raise of electric cars out on the streets, Can you imagine what our environment would look like? In
modern day society, acid rain has affected vegetations, waters, rocks and animals in various types of
environments. Acid rain is very common in forest types of environments and lakes due to the wind.
The wind carries toxins of sulfur dioxide into the clouds where the clouds create either rain or smog.
When the ground/soil is affected by sulfur dioxide, it becomes rotted and the acid rain kills all types of
vegetation. Animals living in this environment loose some sort of food and become poisoned. For
example, fish that live in the waters of lakes are harmed by acid rain where the pH levels become
abnormal. When the forests are destroyed, the living creatures and animals will not be able to find any
source of food; the wild grass is one source of

Huygens Accomplishments
While he was not observing the stars, one problem that plagued Huygens throughout his life was that
of time. In 1658, he was the first to build a pendulum clock the first great step towards modern
timekeeping (Magill et. al.). He published the schematics and his speculations about future
improvements in his Horologium in 1658. While this solved the problem of keeping time, one of the
most important applications of this technology continually evaded him. In order to reliably determine
ones latitude while at sea, some form of accurate timekeeping is needed. As a citizen of the Dutch
Republic, whose economy was heavily dependent on shipping via the sea, Huygens was especially
desperate to solve this problem. However, when he sought to apply ... Show more content on

Huygens was one of the first scientists to recognize that the speed of light must necessarily be a finite
quantity, and from this he was able to determine a kinematic theory of light. The theory details
spherical waves which emanate at the speed of light (which Huygens did not explicitly define other
than saying that it was a finite quantity) in uniform wave fronts. Huygens spherical light waves
propagated in a longitudinal fashion, and thus must necessarily have a medium through which to
propagate. Huygens envisioned this ether was composed of tiny, closely spaced, elastic particles,
which vibrate and pass on the waves of light (Charles). However, not all of Huygens contemporaries
agreed with his formulation of the wave nature of light. Isaac Newton, in particular, was a vocal
opponent of his theory in favor of his own corpuscular theory of light. Huygens, as stated in his
Ebscohost Biography: ...regarded the transmission of such particles through empty space to be mere
Newtonian action at a distance again and incompatible with a mechanistic view of nature . However,
Newton s prominence at the time meant that Huygens s theory of light remained relatively unknown
until mid 19th century, when it was rediscovered and eventually reformulated into what we now know

Who would have ever imagined that buying groceries online would be an option to the general public?
The internet has taken over nearly every aspect of the business world, and the grocery business is the
most recent item added to the list. The grocery business is enormous, but they were uncertain about
what their future may hold due to the increase in online retail. They knew that their next move would
have to be to take their business online if they wanted to continue to flourish. Amazon saw this as a
perfect target to grow their industry, as well. This is one of the many reasons why Amazon decided to
buy out Whole Foods. Unfortunately, this decision will have negative effects on their competitors.

According to Harrison (2014), Whole Foods Market has grown into a natural and organic food empire,
with nearly 400 locations, more than 80,000 employees, and annual sales exceeding $12 billion, , and
it has continued to expand to 460 locations since then. Amazon is looking to amplify their business
through Whole Food s numerous locations all over the world. Whole Foods has acquired the nickname
Whole Paycheck due to the high prices of their groceries (Wingfield Merced, 2017, para. 8), and
because of this aspect, they struggled to compete with stores such as Walmart and Kroger who have
reasonable pricing. They often have better and healthier products, but consumers are drawn to lower
prices. Struggling to attract customer has led to Whole Foods losing a fifth of its value in the last three
years (Gensler, 2017, para. 5). With that being said, Amazon saw this as the perfect opportunity to
save Whole Foods s business, as well as help their own. On June 16th, Amazon announced that they
were going to buy Whole Foods in a $13.7 billion deal. In this deal, Amazon would pay $42 per share
in cash for the company, which represents a 27% premium to the closing price (Gensler, 2017, para.
2). Back in the day, many people thought of online stores and physical stores as two things that would
never overlap. Amazon and Whole Foods saw the potential in combining the two. In this arrangement,
consumers can order their goods online and

The Progression Of Higher Education
The progression of higher education has lead us past classroom education in the strictest sense to ideas
of the overall student experience and globalization. As the demand for access to education continues
to transform from the historical profile of white male student bodies, we have shifted to a noble yet
ambiguous idea of diversity. How an institution shows variety is relative, essentially there is no real
defining point other than, different. Diversification of participants in the institution s community
cannot be staged in the sense of having an equal 10% distribution of people in multiple groups that fit
into popular groups such as racial minorities, women, homosexual, and disabled people. This does
provide an element of categorizing differences but it limits institutions to marking a check box as
opposed experiencing real value. A recent New York times articles provides a glimpse at the darker
side of diversity and a disparaging opinion suggest that a small amount is enough (Holmes, 2015)
however this is a categorical farce. Every point of distinction matters, experience matter, perspective
matters, it all matters. All stakeholders including faculty, staff, and students benefit from diversity.
This must be intentional and in line with the mission and vision of the organization. In kind, required
resources include training, courses, extracurricular organizations, and campus activities. Spellman

Let s say your business works in the flower industry. You might discover that an article about mother s
day flowers on a popular blog includes broken links. Perhaps the links lead to a 404 page. But the link,
with its keywords, is a perfect fit for your business. You can contact the owner of the blog and inform
them about the broken link. Naturally, the blog won t benefit having articles with broken links and
readers will quickly find them annoying and uninformative. While you inform the owner about the
broken link, you can also ask him or her to replace the link with a link to your website. Since your link
is a perfect fit, the owner doesn t need to change the article around, but can simply remove the non
operational link with a working one. Why should you consider broken link building? As mentioned
above, broken link building is one of SEO strategies businesses could use. The practice has become
more popular, driven by the many benefits its offer. Firstly, broken link building works because the
Internet is full of non operational links. HowStuffWorks explained on its article on the subject, how
the links on its site can become broken as quickly as few months. The reasons behind the cause of
broken link vary, but the disruption and annoyance of encountering a broken link remains the same.
Essentially, the practice of broken link building isn t just about boosting your business. It is about

Amy Winehouse Tragic Hero
In the land of fame, it is almost expected of you and your career to come to an abrupt end with much
drama. Sadly, Amy Winehouse was no exception. As the outstanding musician she was, she was
destined to face tragedy. As a woman who possessed traits that included pleasing others, helping
others, facing enemies and allies, and then facing a tragedy, she now can, sadly, be considered as a
modern tragic hero. A tragic hero is described exactly how it sounds, a person who has done
something great like a hero, but also something tragic. A tragic hero may retain traits such as a know it
all personality, an attitude that is unfit for the world which is changing around her, or even plain
arrogance. In today s world, a modern tragic hero s tragedy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Winehouse was a gorgeous and very talented musician of the early 2000s. She grew up in a normal
household with a cab driver father and a pharmacist mother. The fame started when a friend submitted
her tape to a record company. Amy was always a bit troubled, for example, she was expelled from her
school, Sylvia Young Theatre School, for not applying herself and for piercing her nose at the age of
sixteen. She had always been exposed to jazz music, from her family being involved in the industry as
well. She started liking rap on her own in her childhood years; therefore her music is a mix of the two.
( Amy Winehouse Biography Para 2 3).
As her career began to grow after her debut album, Frank, she often showed up to social events drunk
and even drugged. During this time, she was in a very unstable relationship that involved drugs,
alcohol, and abuse. By 2006, Winehouse was in desperate need of Rehab and help, but instead she
wrote a hit about it. To only worsen her situation, the abusive couple got married in 2007. Blake, her
now husband, was arrested for bribing a bartender of which he assaulted, and Amy was later arrested
for supposedly interfering with his case. ( Amy Winehouse Biography para

Crime And Punishment Analysis
Bram Stoker in his novel Dracula claims that no one but a woman can help a man when he is in
trouble of the heart. In Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoevsky, the women are more important
and far more interesting than their male counterparts. From Dounia, Pulcheria, Katerina, and Sonia,
the female characters have more impact on the outcome of the novel than the main character Rodya
Raskolnikov has. In fact, one of Rodya s major reasons for committing the murder is to stop his sister
Dounia from having to sell herself to a man to help support the destitute Rodya. Without his sister
Dounia, there is the distinct possibility that Raskolnikov might never have been driven to commit the
crime in the first place. Dounia is the kind hearted yet strong sister ... Show more content on

She has one of the greatest influences on the novel due to her position as a mother. She is the cause of
her children s personality, and by begetting Dounia she has an even greater effect on Raskolnikov. Her

with obatacles with well adjusted plans that do not hurt anyone. She made him believe from a young
age that he was extraordinary, so, it is due to her that he feels the need to test whether or not he is truly
extraordinary or just regular. She is also a big part of the reason why Raskolnikov is split between
confessing and staying quiet. He does not want to disappoint his mother but he also does not want to
hide such a big thing from his mother. She also serves as a foil to her son. In her letter to Raskolnikov,
she mentions the word love more times than it is used in the rest of the novel, and in the end, love is

Kurdistan is a region located between Iran, Iraq, Syria and Turkey. The Kurds are the biggest ethnicity
on the planet without a state to this day. This paper will focus on the Iraqi part of Kurdistan, for it has
come the closest to a state like notion as per Weber s definition. Iraqi Kurdistan is a region
characterized by many diplomatic issues due to lack of acceptance as a state. The region was
established through an autonomy agreement with Iraqi government in 1970 after decades of disputes
between the Iraqi government and the Kurds in the north. The region had already established a
government, but it lacked many characteristics that are applicable to a state. The constant conflict with
the Iraqi government has been ongoing since the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For many Kurds, the need for a free independent Kurdistan with all four parts united has not been
forgotten and will never be. Various methods and strategies have been used in the attempt to establish
an independent state, but the prevailing conditions have always been against the Kurds, until the
second Gulf War and the toppling of Saddam. This is attributed to the lack of many defining
characteristics of a state, thus Weber s notion of a state can be used to describe the prevailing
conditions within the Iraqi Kurdistan (Zunes 19). It has been a difficult struggle for Iraqi Kurdistan to
achieve legitimacy as a state due to a lack of acceptance by the international community and constant
disputes with Iraq and neighboring countries.
Notion of a state
Based on Weber s notion of a state, a state can be defined as an establishment that is legitimate and
has the power and authority over its citizenry. Moreover, it should have an influence on the internal
affairs of the state as well as the foreign. As per Weber s specific definition, a state has an imposing
business model on honest to goodness viciousness (Oslon 673) Thus, various institutions and
foundations such as the military, common administration or state organization, courts, and police
characterize the state. The citizenry should also be involved in activities within the state. An example
is private equity whereby the citizenry contributes to the state by facilitating infrastructural growth

Legalizing Gay Marriage
The battle over Gay marriage in the United States reached a fever pitch during the presidential
election of 2004. The issue vaulted into prominence when the Democratic mayor of San Francisco
flouted state law and performed marriage ceremonies for Gay couples. Conservatives claim that the
issue catapulted them into power by motivating fundamentalist Christian voters to turnout in order to
defeat anti gay marriage amendments in eleven states, including the crucial swing state Ohio. Liberals

Indeed, In the modern administrative state, civil marriage condenses within a single document a vast
array of legal, financial, and medical rights and benefits (Haslett). Proponents of Gay marriage argue
that denying these rights based solely on sexuality is akin to the segregation of blacks in the South.
Opponents of Gay marriage also acknowledge the uniqueness and importance of marriage as an
institution. It is precisely for this reason that they oppose allowing homosexuals to join in matrimony.
Gay marriage would redefine the institution, leading people to no longer believe that the central
purpose of marriage is to bind men and women exclusively to each other and to the children that their
sexual behavior is apt to produce. It will communicate instead that marriage was created to gratify
grown ups by reinforcing their committed romantic relationships (Jacoby). This change in definition
will erode the traditional roles held by men and women in a marriage, according to opponents, and
lead society down a slippery slope towards a point in time where even polygamy could be condoned
as a reinforcement of a committed relationship.
The real issue at hand seems to me to be the notion of civil union versus full fledged marriage. If the
main reason that Gay couples wish to wed is so that they can enjoy the legal privileges associated with

  • 2. Examples Of Irony In Good Country People What is a Good Country Person? Who makes the decision in whether a person is good or not. Is there such thing as good person? When a person thinks that they are always good, it probably means that they are are lying because no one person is perfect. Although there is no such thing as a perfect person, often times people are sometimes perceived to be perfect or better than they really are. Perception is the ability to see, hear, or become aware of something through the senses. In her article on the morality of perception, Gayman acknowledges, Unlike mere recognition, perception requires the work of the intelligence and demands careful observation and engaged attention (1). Being able to perceive the character of a person is necessary if a person wants to fully trust another person. In Good Country People by Flannery O Connor, irony, symbolism, and characterization are used to prove that one s perception of something or someone is not always reliable. Irony is the expression of one s meaning by using language that usually means the opposite. Typically in literature, irony is used in emphatic sense. There is a multitude of irony in Good Country People. The character s names of this story are incredibly ironic. Joy Hulga is ironic because she is the furthest from being joyful. Another example is, Mrs. Freeman. She is not free because she has been hired and enslaved by Mrs. Hopewell. Another type of irony in Good Country People is how Joy Hulga s intelligence causes ... • 3. Sir Edward Elgar Essay There is music in the air, music all around us, the world is full of it and you simply take as much as you require Sir Edward Elgar. Elgar was one of the 19th century s most famous composers. He devoted his life to writing musical pieces such as Enigma Variations, The Dream of Gerontius, and the Pomp and Circumstance Marches. Certain personality aspects of Elgar, such as his wit and creative humor, are found in his music and set him apart from the other composers of his time. Elgar was born in the small village Lower Broadheath England to a music dealer. He was the 4th of 7 siblings and was very precocious. Elgar grew up reading the writings of Voltaire and Longfellow, and began taking piano and violin lessons at age 8. Elgar ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Interestingly enough Elgar enjoyed working for the asylum. Elgar soon traveled to Leipzig Germany and Paris France where he spent most of his time attending concerts. During his travels he became greatly influenced by Richard Wagner who was a famous composer of the time. This inspired Elgar to increase his following and to publish some of his pieces. He often found himself financially unable to accomplish this goal. At age 29 he met Caroline Alice Roberts who was the daughter of General Sir Henry Roberts. She began taking music lessons from him and they married 3 years later. Although she was 8 years older than Elgar, and her parents did not approve, she had faith in him and married below her class . With his wife s support he kept pursuing his dreams of becoming a famous composer. After several unsuccessful music ventures Elgar began to become popular in the 1890s. Most of his work came from choral festivals and such, but his fame did not arise until his first major orchestral work the Enigma Variations. Elgar wrote several other pieces that I mentioned earlier, but I will focus on the enigma variations because it is my favorite. This piece is especially unique because it is made up of 14 variations which each represent a friend of Elgar s. The piece uses music to describe each individual, or as Elgar stated my friends pictured within Sir Edward Elgar. For example, the first variation describing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Importance Of Accountability In The Military Amongst many principles with which men and women of the military must abide by, the concept of maintaining accountability of your personnel is possibly the most important concept not just within the military itself, but around the world within any occupation. Keeping proper accountability of your personnel covers yourself, as well as giving those above you the luxury of being at ease knowing that their persons are all present and accounted for. Accountability manifests itself both in real life and in fiction. Real life accountability ranges from keeping tabs of where a student is in school and extends to keeping track of emergency personnel in life or death situations. Teachers knowing where a student is, such as them being sick and not coming to school that day or keeping tabs on them while on a field trip keeps them at ease knowing their students are all accounted for and nobody was left alone when they need a chaperone. In a life or death situation, such as recovery and life saving operations after a hurricane or earthquake, the police, fire department, even the coast guard need to maintain accountability of their officers and other personnel as well as the people they have recovered from the wreckage. Although these real world examples are merely just examples of what accountability is needed for, however people need to know exactly why it is needed in business and in the field. Possibly the most important result of maintaining accountability of yourself, your ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Critique Of The Help By Kathryn Stockett Critique of Fiction Novel The Help was published in 2005 by Kathryn Stockett. It was her first novel and it takes place around 1962 in Jackson, Mississippi where Stockett grew up. Stockett takes inspiration from the segregation she witnessed in her hometown and the African American maid Demetrie, with whom she grew up with, to write a passionate yet controversial novel in which she depicts the struggle between whites and blacks along with the emotional struggle that the main characters endure throughout the novel. The Help has been widely renowned yet disputable as Stockett uses the different aspects of life in the south that she grew up with to write a fictional yet realistic account of the segregation during the period of the Civil Rights Movement. The Help is told from the point of view of three characters: two African American women, Minny who is a cook, and Aibleen who is a maid and a white woman named Eugenia Skeeter Phelan. Stockett uses the three characters in first person narrative to depict not only the differences in the lives between whites and black, but also how their lives were intertwined in the sense that they end up helping one another even though the time period was one of separation and segregation. As the novel progresses, Skeeter, an aspiring writer, wants to write an exposition about the lives of Aibleen and Minny and other African American maids living in the south and the porous conditions that they endure in their daily lives. She started off her week by giving her mother trouble while getting ready for school in the mornings, and an overall lack of discipline and focus at home. On Wednesday her mother recorded that Cheyanne knew she was going to karate class that day, and her focus and studies show great improvement. Her mother also recorded that her respect, discipline, and control had greatly increased on Wednesday compared to the start of the week. It was also recorded that the day after she took her class, Cheyanne showed great improvement in her behavior. Towards the end of the week, Cheyanne s behavior slowly began to drop back to arguing with her brother and not complying with instructions given by her parents. • 10. Prenatal Drug Abuse When considering making changes to the laws that stand today, one should think about everyone affected in the situation. The mother is not always the only one that is affected, but the child, other family members, and the government also get involved. The number of tests that are run need to be changed; it will help to keep the drugs away from the fetus if the mother knows that she is going to be tested. Also, the child should be taken away from the mother if drugs are found in the body during gestation. If the law would prosecute mothers for doing drugs, it would limit the amount of money spent by the government. On the other hand, the law could prosecute a mother for child abuse. The baby s life is in danger because of the mother s actions, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When a child is affected from the mother using drugs during gestation, the child suffers for an infinite amount of time, so states should consider rethinking the laws to better support the child, not the mother. A child suffers with a numerous number of issues for eternity whenever his or her mother uses drugs during pregnancy. On the other hand, a child that is effected should have the rights to not live with the person who harmed him. Child abuse should be illegal in every state, not just the few that have made it illegal, and the mother should be tried and prosecuted. Along with keeping the child safe, prosecuting the mother also ensures the child to having a better life. The child will not have to worry about being made fun of, suffering from terminal diseases, and losing a parent to drug use. The child is more likely to live a healthier life if law enforcement can do away with the drug using mother. The laws that are in effect today are not feasible in most circumstances. The laws do not push through enough, and they are not strong enough to keep the drugs away from the child. That being said, more children are being affected day by day. • 11. The Negro And The Racial Mountain Langston Hughes was an African American poet, social activist, novelist, and playwright. His works are still studies, read, and, in terms of his poems and plays, performed. He is best known for being a leader of the Harlem Renaissance. Within his works, he depicted black America in manners that told the truth about the culture, music, and language of his people. Besides his many notable poems, plays, and novels, Hughes also wrote essays such as The Negro Artist and the Racial Mountain which Hughes gives insight into the minds of middle class and upper class Negroes. Prior to reading this essay, I never heard of, nor did I know, Langston Hughes composed essays, much less an essay that outwardly depicts aspects of life that most are accustomed to and see nothing wrong with. The Negro and the Racial Mountain formulated this view that Langston Hughes was more than a poet who wrote about jazz music as he is depicted within grade school textbooks, but instead, a man who had a great passion for the African American race to develop a love for themselves and for non African American audiences to begin to understand how the African American race can be strong and creative despite struggles that may be occur. There is a possibility that this essay, The Negro Artist and the Racial Mountain, is not more commonly known because it has the ability to make the reader uncomfortable, no matter if he is an African American or white. • 12. Review Of The Trail Of Tears The Trail of Tears was a challenge since it was both a dramatic change (by losing each tribe s traditional land, plants, and animals, as well as their horses being confiscated or killed [to prevent escape] and their cattle being seized in order to discourage the temptation of absconding to live independently) and a traumatic exploit (many tribes lost over half of their population). I picked this topic because I have always wondered what exactly happened during this trek, how far they travelled (where they came from and where they ended up), and how they were treated. The Indians, numbering about 16,000, were forced off their lands when Georgia citizens and the president of the US ignored the decision from Worcester v. Georgia. Almost 4,000 Indians died on the trail (including those victims who died in the stockades awaiting forced transportation), in order to empty their tribal lands and make them available for new white settlers. ... A Girl Of The Limberlost Analysis In the novel A Girl of the Limberlost by Gene Stratton Porter, there lies in the pages the themes of nature and moths, both intrinsic motifs sunk deep into the bones of the storyline. The beauty and elegance of nature is viewed by the characters as a direct manifestation of the hand of God. As such, the characters in the story basked in the glory of the outdoors and spent most the time perusing the surrounding areas around their homes. Each character in the novel had a different relationship to nature. For some, such as nature was a way to find inner peace. For others, nature represented the turbulence and wildness upon which the course of life took you. Specific places out in the surrounding environment novel also had a noteworthy part in the theme of nature. And then you have characters in which nature played a more significant role such as Elnora and her mother Mrs. Comstock s life. The focal point of the story is focused on the heroin Elnora Comstock with her collection of moths and her crotchety mother Mrs. Comstock. Elnora is a poor necessitous girl who receives no support from her mother. This is due to the fact that Mrs. Comstock blames Elnora for her husband s death by asphyxiation in the limberlost swamp. All of the nurturing and care she had came from Margaret and Wesley Sinton. The lack of care and support from her mother led Elnora to have to pay for her own education. A way to test one s willpower and the willingness to delay gratification in order to achieve a higher goal. These statements all fit into what Walter Mischel was trying to prove in his Marshmallow Test. This experiment was based on the effect marshmallows and other sweets have on children and their willpower when it comes to waiting to have it. With this purpose, the view of human nature that is felt presently, will change profoundly. The key to success comes from direct correlation of self control and willpower because after all, self control is a central function of [understanding] the self (Baumeister). Walter Mischel was a psychologist who focused on personality structure, process, and development, and in self regulation (Plous). His primary interests, when looking at his studies, all include the relation to the mind, and its effect on action. They consist of emotion, mood, motivation, goal setting, self and identity, and social cognition (Plous). The fact that his studies all relate to each other, gives an advantage when creating an experiment. The advantage is the fact that he will be comfortable with what is being studied and the results that come in. With the background of looking at goal setting and motivation that he has, it gives this experiment more credibility as a whole. When one looks at how the media continues to communicate certain messages to the American public, it is remarkable how some trends have continued for decades. The unfortunate reality is that the media is no different from many institutions in American society in that it has to sell products to the public in order to stay financially stable. This analysis focuses on Neruda s language and word choice itself in the absence of a historical, political or even a highly contextual personal examination. His love poems in particular, such as in his books One Hundred Love Sonnets, Twenty Love Poems and a Song of Despair and The Captain s Verses all help one in viewing the world anew via the approach of the poems towards intricate surrealist imagery and passionate emotion as well as the forms and stages of love. The selected poems use repeating natural images alongside similarly recurring romantic emotions. For example, Tonight I Can Write the Saddest Lines portrays the speaker s feelings of loss and poignant longing (Karmakar, 2015 p3) in the descriptions of the fractured night, with the night wind , infinite sky and blue stars continuing the image of an lonely evening. The hopeful reflection of morning is indicated with the lines that fall on the soul like dew on the grass . Alongside this, the subject whom the speaker is referring to is mentioned as having a bright body as well as describing her huge, still eyes . Slim is seen as the leader by the men even though it seems that he is equal to them. The fact that Slim is very modest seems to make him even more powerful. The relationship between Slim and the men is symbiotic because he gives them as much respect as they give to him. Carlson stepped back to let Slim precede him. This shows that the men are willing to let Slim go before them, because of the relationship that they have, and it appears to happen in a natural way. Taking a Look at Impressionism What Impressionism Sought to Achieve By the year 1863 the sentry which allows the visual messages transmitted by the eye to penetrate to the brain only after a rigorous censorship, had admitted most aspects of visual truth, but there were two that had not yet officially passed the censor. They were (1) the colour and vibration of light and (2) the density of air. No one had ever painted the true colour of sunshine and shadow, and hardly anyone had thought it worthwhile to suggest that the density of the air is not always constant, that a picture could be painted, for instance, of a landscape seen through a heavy mist or fog. But both these visual discoveries were, fundamentally, subheadings of a larger discovery. What the Impressionists did, almost without knowing it, was to realize the phenomenon of transitoriness. The artist who carries his canvas out into the open air and attempts to record every nuance of what his eye sees is in a very different frame of mind from the artist who constructs his picture in his studio from a series of preparatory sketches or studies. His eye may not be more searching but it becomes conscious of a different set of visual data. He becomes less and less concerned with the nature of the object figure or landscape he happens to be painting, and more and more conscious of the appearance of the object at a particular moment of time. [1] While the term work breakdown structure was not used, this first implementation of PERT did organize the tasks into product oriented categories.[5] By June of 1962, DoD, NASA and the aerospace industry published a guidance document for the PERT/COST system which included an extensive description of the WBS approach. [6] This guide was endorsed by the Secretary of Defense for adoption by all services.[7] In 1968, the DoD issued Work Breakdown Structures for Defense Materiel Items (MIL STD 881), a military standard mandating the use of work breakdown structures across the DoD. One policy which may stand out and has had an impact all over the country is the reformation of investigating officer involved critical incidents. Of course with any policy there will be some pros and cons the criminal justice system will have to work with. As with most critical incidents, local, state, and federal agencies gather, analyze and use statistical data in order to identify potential alarming trends and to determine whether or not any reform is needed. It is reasonable to state that situations involving officer involved shootings qualify as critical incidents; therefore, the statistical data regarding these incidents should be carefully and methodically analyzed. This paper will focus on the Iraqi part of Kurdistan, for it has come the closest to a state like notion as per Weber s definition. Iraqi Kurdistan is a region characterized by many diplomatic issues due to lack of acceptance as a state. The region was established through an autonomy agreement with Iraqi government in 1970 after decades of disputes between the Iraqi government and the Kurds in the north. The region had already established a government, but it lacked many characteristics that are applicable to a state. The constant conflict with the Iraqi government has been ongoing since the ... Various methods and strategies have been used in the attempt to establish an independent state, but the prevailing conditions have always been against the Kurds, until the second Gulf War and the toppling of Saddam. This is attributed to the lack of many defining characteristics of a state, thus Weber s notion of a state can be used to describe the prevailing conditions within the Iraqi Kurdistan (Zunes 19). It has been a difficult struggle for Iraqi Kurdistan to achieve legitimacy as a state due to a lack of acceptance by the international community and constant disputes with Iraq and neighboring countries. Notion of a state Based on Weber s notion of a state, a state can be defined as an establishment that is legitimate and has the power and authority over its citizenry. Moreover, it should have an influence on the internal affairs of the state as well as the foreign. • 36. Legalizing Gay Marriage Essays Legalizing Gay Marriage The battle over Gay marriage in the United States reached a fever pitch during the presidential election of 2004. The issue vaulted into prominence when the Democratic mayor of San Francisco flouted state law and performed marriage ceremonies for Gay couples. Conservatives claim that the issue catapulted them into power by motivating fundamentalist Christian voters to turnout in order to defeat anti gay marriage amendments in eleven states, including the crucial swing state Ohio. Liberals retort that fundamentalist Christian turnout in 2004 was statistically even to 2000. Regardless of the truth of that statement, what cannot be denied is the attention the issue of Gay ... Indeed, In the modern administrative state, civil marriage condenses within a single document a vast array of legal, financial, and medical rights and benefits (Haslett). Proponents of Gay marriage argue that denying these rights based solely on sexuality is akin to the segregation of blacks in the South. Opponents of Gay marriage also acknowledge the uniqueness and importance of marriage as an institution. It is precisely for this reason that they oppose allowing homosexuals to join in matrimony. Gay marriage would redefine the institution, leading people to no longer believe that the central purpose of marriage is to bind men and women exclusively to each other and to the children that their sexual behavior is apt to produce. It will communicate instead that marriage was created to gratify grown ups by reinforcing their committed romantic relationships (Jacoby). This change in definition will erode the traditional roles held by men and women in a marriage, according to opponents, and lead society down a slippery slope towards a point in time where even polygamy could be condoned as a reinforcement of a committed relationship. The real issue at hand seems to me to be the notion of civil union versus full fledged marriage. If the main reason that Gay couples wish to wed is so that they can enjoy the legal privileges associated with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
