Morality and God
Can a person be moral and not believe in God
Name
PHI 103 Informal Logic

Date of Submission
Morality only exists if we believe in God; therefore if God doesn t exist there is no morality. There
have been so many evil acts committed in the name of God that it is difficult to maintain that a belief
in God equates to morality. There are situations that happen every day where decisions are made based
off of human rights that contradict the word of God. Morality comes from within, it is an
understanding of right versus wrong and the ability to choose what is right. Knowing all this a belief
in God is not a requirement for a person to be moral. (Mosser, 2011)
We are taught that morals are basically the difference between ... Show more content on

If you do not fear the wrath of God, there is nothing to stop you from committing immoral acts, or any
crimes for that matter. Any situation can be overlooked because there is no fear of punishment without
a fear of God. Only a person with a firm belief in God can be considered moral because they fear His
punishment and desire his reward. God is the only person great enough to enforce moral standards,
without his guidance there can be no binding morals. Moral standards come from God and without
Him a person cannot be moral.
When we talk in absolutes we ignore possibilities that exist outside of our beliefs. There are many
examples of individuals that believed in God who acted immorally, as well as examples of people who
do not believe in God acting with good morals. Their beliefs do not determine their morality, their acts
do. If we are to base morality solely on a belief in God then which believer do we follow? Do we
follow the believer who commits crimes, or only the believer who is an upstanding member of
society?

Management Is The Basic Function Of Management
Q1.
Management is a common and important term involving in all kinds of organizations such as
businesses, political, cultural or social. Management has been described as the process of dealing with
things or people (Oxford Dictionary). There are four basic functions that make up the effective
management process: Planning, Organizing, Leading and Controlling. Catriona Noble, who started
from a 14 year old casual crew member to the first female CEO of One of McDonald s top ten
subsidiaries in the world, applies successfully these functions in operating McDonald s Australia.
Planning is the basic function of management which involves in defining goals, setting up strategy,
and developing plans to best achieve of the goals. Typically, planning also involves flexibility in the
organization and knowledge of the company s recourses. Thus it is important to have planning skills to
establish the right strategic objectives before making tactical decision (Burrows, 2016). Understanding
planning is a key in running business, Catriona Noble has been a crucial driving force in changing
McDonald s menu. She endeavours to find out the different opinion of customers about the food in
order to modify menu items that suit consumer tastes. She also really concerns about criticisms
towards McDonald s fattier items and aims to use a lower fat and healthier way to cook. As a business
leader, she effectively uses planning skills to develop and monitor individual aspects of projects, and

The Secret Life Of Bees Summary
The secret life of Bees, is about a fourteen year old girl named Lily who is White. She lives with her
father T. Ray who is a peach farmer in Sylvan, South Carolina. In the first chapter Lily is waiting for
the bees that live in the walls of her bedroom, as they do every night. T. Ray does not believe her story
about the bees, so she decides to collect the bees in a jar to prove him wrong. Rosaleen her nanny and
housekeeper is the one who looks after Lily. Lily remembers her last memory of her mother Deborah,
who died when Lily was a small child. T. Ray told Lily she accidentally shot her mother while T. Ray
and Deborah were fighting one day. Lily decides to tag along with Rosaleen to the town, where
Rosaleen is planning to go vote. Instead, a group of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Lily gets frighten by this since Rosaleen is the only person in her life who truly loves Lily. At home T.

planning to leave Lily behind. Lily notices that the bees have escaped from the jar she put them in,
which Lily takes advantage and plans to run away. The theme for this book is racism by not only
illustrating black and white characters with self respect and society but by also showing how Lily
struggles with overcoming her own racism. Lily is not a racist in the same way that the group of men
that harassed Rosaleen are racist, but she does witness some prejudice and stereotypes at the
beginning of the book. She infers that all African Americans are like Rosaleen, an uneducated working
housekeeper. When Lily encounters unique, educated, thoughtful August Boatwright, she must change
her expectations and fight her mindset. At first, Lily feels shocked that a black person could be as
smart, sensitive, and creative as August. Admitting and combating her impact allows Lily to realize

The Struggles of Immigrant Women in the Early Twentieth...
Between the years of 1840 and 1914, about forty million people immigrated to the United States from
foreign countries. Many of them came to find work and earn money to have a better life for their
families. Others immigrated because they wanted to escape the corrupt political power of their
homelands, such as the revolution in Mexico after 1911. Whatever the case, many found it difficult to
begin again in a new country. Most immigrants lived in slums with very poor living conditions. They
had a hard time finding work that paid enough to support a family. Not only was it difficult for
immigrant men, but for women as well. Immigrant women faced many challenges including lack of
education and social life as well as low wages and poor ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When Sara is out selling herring to earn money for dinner, she says, Nothing was before me but the
hunger in our house, and no bread for the next meal if I didn t sell the herring. This shows just how
desperate Sara and her family are for money to put food on the table. Many immigrant families
struggled to make ends meet even with all the members of their families working. They had to live in
tenements and endure poor living conditions because they used the little income that they received to
pay for food. In the book, the family s kitchen at dinner time is described by saying, The stove was
cold. No food was on the table. The Smolinsky family struggles to put food on the table every night,
so they could not think about sending one of their daughters to school when they desperately need
money themselves. Women were simply not given the opportunity to educate themselves and therefore
it was hard for them to pursue any sort of career in America.
With the lack of education for these women, it also took away from any kind of social life they may
have had. It was hard for a young immigrant woman to go out and find a fitting husband because she
was always working to support her family. Many families could not afford to let their daughters get
married because that would mean less income for them. Several fathers only wanted to marry off their
daughters to

A Brief Note On Cross Culture Of India
Somewhere culture defines the way of living of people of that area. Therefore I selected this topic of
cross culture of India because the India a huge populated country and there are different religions in
this country. Besides this I think we should have the knowledge about the other country cultures there
languages how they like to live because in this world we can meet any one in any situations. That s
why it s necessary for us to have knowledge about the cultures of the other country there people, there
style of living, festivals, education systems, cuisines, weddings and the most important one their
languages. India is one of the oldest civilizations in the world. The culture of India varies from place
to place within the country. The Indian culture is the combination of several different cultures. Indian
culture is specifically based on the religions there are several different religions belonging to same
country. Basically they have the same religion but they have divided themselves into various sub
groups for example Brahmans and others. Moreover, there are several more religions living there as
the minority such as Islam (14.2%), Christianity (2.3%), Sikhism (1.7%), Buddhism (0.2%), Jainism
(0.4%). There are joint family systems in the India where the extended members of a family father,
mother, children, his spouse and their offspring lives together. Usually the oldest member of the

In Cold Blood Historical Accuracy
In the story of In Cold Blood, the author, Truman Capote, is able to achieve his goal of creating a non
fiction novel with historical accuracy, at the same time, giving it the qualities of fiction and journalism
by building a story that strictly follows the actual four murders while creating other details to attach
the plot together. What makes In Cold Blood like a fictional novel is that Capote makes the murder
case seem like a story he made up. Capote does this by taking advantage of the fact Holcomb is not a
well known town, thus, the murder of the Clutter family is not popular among the public even today.
The low popularity of the case also makes it seem less practical, therefore more novel like. In
addition, Capote exploits the fact ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the many parts that make In Cold Blood part journalism is that Capote spent roughly six years
putting the story together. According to the acknowledgements in the very first few pages of In Cold
Blood, the author spent six years collecting information, interviewed the people involved directly and
indirectly with the case and even Dick and Perry themselves. Based on the information from these
sources, Capote is able to present what happened precisely and accurately. Unlike many books based
on true stories, In Cold Blood is a historical event manifested in the form of a book. The characters are
actual people and Holcomb is a real place. Another journalistic trait Capote weaves into his book is
that Dick and Perry are not described as a duo of monstrous killers but victims as well. Capote
empathizes with the two, showing there is more to them than what meets the eye by humanizing Dick
and Perry, revealing their hobbies, history, personalities, and their morale, breaking off from the
stereotypical views of murderers, thus making the plot more

White Collar And Organized Crime Essay
White Collar And Organized Crime
In the twentieth century, White Collar and Organized Crimes have attracted the attention of the U.S.
Criminal Justice System due to the greater cost to society than most normal street crime. Even with
the new attention by the Criminal Justice System, both are still pretty unknown to the general public.
Although we know it occurs, due to the lack of coverage and information, society does not realize the
extent of these crimes or the impact. White Collar and Organized is generally crime committed by
someone that is considered respectable and has a high social status. The crimes committed usually
consist of fraud, insider trading, bribery, embezzlement, money laundering, identity theft or forgery.

They also increase the drug trafficking and pay off corrupt officials by extortion or intimidation which
helps them continue their operations. Although the FBI is unsure of how much impact there is, they
estimate it to be around $1 trillion a year, globally.
The FBI has created an organized crime program that focuses on the crimes and criminal enterprises
that are creating the greatest threat to America. They have three units which are focused on La Cosa
Nostra, Italian organized crime and racketeering. Also included are Middle Eastern, Asian and African
criminal enterprises. The framework of the program is based on pursuing targets that have ties to
national and international criminal enterprises and breaking them down; relying on flexibility to aid in
pursuing organized crime by regions that are conducting racketeering activities. They have also
partnered with people globally to assist in information during investigations. Italy and Hungary are
included in this partnership. By partnering with other countries, tackling these groups of people
becomes easier.
One of the largest Organized crime bust occurred in 2011. Close to 130 members of the New York

Theme Of Symbolism In Sea Of The Sea
The novel is rich in symbolism that enhances both the plot and the Themes. The major symbol is the
sea, which stands for all of life on which man must sail. In both the sea and in life, there are a number
of possibilities that lie hidden from the common eye; some are gifts to be treasured and some are
problems to be defeated. Neither will be found unless man embarks upon the journey. If man is lucky
enough to discover a treasure (be it love or family or education), he must fight until death to retain it;
if man is unlucky enough to discover an evil lurking underneath the surface of the sea (any one of life
s varied problems), he must fight it bravely and nobly until the end. In either case, it is the struggle
that is all important, and a man obtains the status of hero if he battles the sea (life) with grace under
pressure. In the novel, Santiago embarks on a sea journey (life) and encounters a giant marlin
(treasure). He battles nobly to earn the treasure and then fights the sharks (problems) to save it. The
struggle defines him as a hero. Even though he loses the treasure (the marlin) to the sharks (the
problems), he has won the sea battle (life).
In addition, Santiago serves as a metaphor for the creative artist, someone like Hemingway himself.
He is capable in his profession, has proved his talent several times before, but that is not sufficient. He
has to prove it every day, for every day is a new day. Santiago s suffering is akin to artistic creation,
which is never

Testing The Quality Of The Flour And Gluten Properties
Mixograph
A mixograph is a test that bakers use to test the quality of the flour. This test is very similar to the
farinograph. The farinograph and mixograph both test for the mixing quality of the dough and gluten
properties. The main difference between the mixograph and the farinograph, is the mixograph needs a
much smaller sample to run the test. The sample size for the farinograph is anywhere between 50 300
grams while the mixograph can run samples of 5, 10, and 35 grams. The only drawback is it cannot
test the absorption because it uses a set amount of water for each test (Dapcevic).
The theory behind developing the mixograph was there was a high demand for a machine that can use
a smaller sample size to test the dough and gluten properties. This test is used to tell the baker the
quality of the flour and how much water will be needed to add to this blend of flour to optimally mix
it. The mixograph curve suggests mixing time requirement, tolerance, and optimum water absorption
(Sherwood). The mixograph test helps the baker know the mixing qualities of the dough in a quick
and precise way. It takes the guessing out of whether if there is enough water in the dough or if it is
mixed optimally. The amount of water added to the test effects the peak optimum mixing time for the
dough; dry doughs have a shorter peak time while wet doughs have a longer peak time. To find the
optimum absorption use the equation y=1.5X+43.6, y=Abs, x=[protein] 14%moisture basis. By

Celiac Disease Research Papers
Did you know that if you have celiac diease it can stun your growth? There s no cure for celiac disease
but following a strict gluten free diet can help manage symptoms and promote intestinal healing. If
you have celiac disease, eating gluten triggers an immune response in your small intestine. Over time,
this reaction produces inflammation that damages the small intestine s lining and prevents absorption
of some nutrients (malabsorption). When people with celiac disease eat gluten (a protein found in
wheat, rye and barley), their body mounts an immune response that attacks the small intestine. These
attacks lead to damage on the villi, small fingerlike projections that line the small intestine, that

Based on the research presented, it is apparent in both individual practice sessions and large group
settings that student musicians and directors are at great risk of NIHL. Furthermore, daily exposure
limit is often reached well before the conclusion of the practice session or ensemble rehearsal. The
evidence is sufficient to prompt music educators to be aware of and concerned about the role of NIHL
in the classroom. Chesky (2008) argues that the music education community needs to realize that
children in the United States are not learning about NIHL as part of the public school curriculum (p.

its use of veil, vault, and the exhibition spaces. Though it will continue to be controversial, many
architects will see the Broad Museum as the wave of future.
The concept of the veil and the vault in designing the broad is based on joining the two parts of the
building: one of them is public exhibition space and the other one is collection storage. Instead of
relegating the storage to secondary place, the vault, plays an important role in making the museum

Moral Values In The Bible
Morals and Themes Learned From an Important Lesson: The Bible
Many books, movies, quotes and ideas have been crafted and based off of the stories and themes of
The Bible. The parables as shown in The Bible As/In Literature have many characters that other
authors and artists base their work off of as it guides some audiences to believe where these ideas and
morals have come from. One of these art forms being the Dreamworks animated movie, The Prince of
Egypt. It tells the Biblical story of Moses and how he saved the Israelites from the hard, grueling slave
work the Egyptians forced through them, once God gave him the task to. The movie The Prince of
Egypt and the parables from The Bible As/In Literature share many themes that connect the stories
together and the traits shown through their characters. Some major themes that are used between the
two are leadership, determination and faith. One major theme in The Prince of Egypt that relates to the
BAIL story of Joseph is determination. The story of Joseph is about Jacob s son Joseph and how his
brothers despised him. Joseph always had a dream that one day his brothers would be looking up to
him, and that he was someone very important. His brothers were very angry and they sent him to
Egypt and took his tunic and dipped it in goat s blood. Joseph got to Egypt and met the Pharaoh, and
answered his dream and became Pharaoh s right hand man. One place where we see determination
from Joseph is when he told his brothers and father

The Process Of Deduction Logic
In social research, traditional and non traditional methods are used to explore and examine research
queries and relate methods of data collection and observation. One conventionally accepted method is
through deductive logic. Deductive logic is research that begins with a theory and arrives at a specific
expectation through a series of scientific steps. Both explanatory and exploratory techniques can be
used in deductive. In contrast, inductive methods, in which researchers examine specific data sets and
detect general patterns, are considered non traditional. In inductive logic, the identification of
empirical patterns result in a generalization about some social process (Schutt, 2012, p. 45).
The process of deduction logic begins with statements, also known as premises , that are assumed to
be true. A determination is made regarding additional factors that must be true if the premises are true.
A special logical structure, known as modus ponens, is a rule asserting that a hypothetical proposition
according to which if the antecedent be affirmed, the consequent is affirmed (Merriam Webster, 2015).
The form of any argument having the structure of modus ponens is as follows: Given P, if P then Q,
so, Q. Using this structure, any argument is stated as the major premise, the minor premise, and the
conclusion. In this way, the statements are evaluated in terms of validity and soundness.
The strength of deductive reasoning is its consideration of validity and

Violence Against Matthew Shepard Analysis
Many seem to see the violence against Matthew Shepard as a hate crime, which I agree with.
Everything pointed to, from testimonies to evidence, shows that he was attacked due to his sexual
orientation; however, the perpetrators, Aaron McKinney and Russel Henderson, didn t even know
Matt prior to the night of the incident, so how d they know if he was gay or not? They reacted to his
performance in a way that was consistent with their own learned gender performances. This theme of
prejudice was a crime fueled by hate, but facilitated by gender performance. The events seemed to be
documented through theatrical drama, though written in the style of a narrative that tries to present
itself as a true story, through tension. The way Kaufman builds

Dulce Et Decorum Est And Jessie Pope s
The poems Dulce et Decorum Est by Wilfred Owen and Who s for the Game? by Jessie Pope are
direct antitheses of each other, such that their views about war, the chosen literary schemes, and the
effects on the readers are exact opposites in each view. Who s for the Game? is a strong pro war poem
with a simplistic rhyme scheme, basic meaning, shallow imagery, and is intended to provoke and
challenge young men into joining the war. Conversely, Dulce et Decorum Est is an anti war poem with
a relatively more complicated rhyme scheme, complex meaning, deep imagery, and is intended to
discourage those who write such propaganda as Who s for the Game? . The authors of these poems
have polar opposite views on the topic of war, and of fighting for one s country. Jessie Pope is pro
war, and her poem can be reduced down to provoking propaganda with the intent of encouraging
young men into joining the war. Wilfred Owen, a soldier, is anti war, and his poem is a direct message
that Fighting and dying for one s country is not sweet or right, it s an ancient lie. Although both of
them are notable ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Tv Crichton Smith
THE TV
Iain Crichton Smith, a Scottish poet, acclaimed for his focus on the ever present theme of
geographical exile. Through his work, he can be seen to describe the process of leaving home
particularly in a rural place similar to the island in which he grew up in. However, his use of exile in
many different forms can be found in a variety of Crichton Smith s poetry, resulting in what can be
analysed as a deeper and more meaningful sense of the idea of exile. He effectively explores the
cultural and religious background behind those who ultimately distance themselves from the reality of
the modern day world he was living in. He explores the idea of death as a final type of exile which can
be interpreted as the subject of the poem turning away from death in hopes that they can flee from the
inescapable finality of death.
Throughout his poetry, Crichton Smith uses exile to indicate what appears to be a gap between a
fantasy and a reality. His piece, The TV effectively highlights the idea of technology disrupting the

Hannah had no children… because the Lord had kept her from having children. The Bible (1 Samuel
1.2,5)
These are some issues that Christians may be concerned about:
i) Using Donors adultery?
Some Christians think that using a donor sperm or a donor egg is a violation of the marriage bond and
there it is adultery.
ii) Parent s who are they? Should children know? Confusion for child? Some Christian views on this
(like the Roman Catholic) are that they believe that children have the right to know who their parents
are and this is prevented in AID and surrogacy.
iii) When does life begin? Is an embryo a life? What to do with extra embryos etc? The Roman
Catholics believe that IVF involves fertilizing several eggs some of which are thrown away or used
for experimentation which is the same as abortion. Other Christian Churches allow IVF because the
discarded embryos are not fetuses and their destruction can be justified by the doctrine of double
effect. (The intention is to produce children for childless couples, not to kill embryos.)
iv) Surrogacy? The Roman Catholics believe that surrogacy is not allowed, because it involves male
masturbation and this has always been regarded by the Catholic Church as a grave moral sin.

relationships. It helps lives daily, and if forgiveness didn t happen then there would be many broken
friendships and relationships. The future will go smoother with forgiveness, and relations with people

Themes In The Great Gatsby
Time. It affects all of what we know and are. Living in the past can affect your present, and living in
the future can affect your present. We see that as we read both The Great Gatsby and The Love Song
of J. Alfred Prufrock . Three common themes arise in both of these literatures. Those themes are:
mortality, memories/the past, and isolation. When we realize that we are not immortal, we then tend to
focus on our past or our memories we have made because those are what we lived for because we don
t want to be isolated when we are older. They may not seem like they are connected, but all three of
these very much so affect one s life and how they live it. That is shown throughout the characters
narrated.
In The Great Gatsby , some of the characters know that they are past their prime. They don t need to
be the center of attention or anything like that because they understand that it isn t their time to shine
anymore. That s shown in this example: I belong to another generation...
As for me, I am fifty years old, and I won t impose myself on you any longer. They have accepted that
they are not it anymore. Even though the theme is common between both passages, it means
something different in The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock . The meaning is different here because
the author knew he was past his prime and all that he had done means nothing now.
He doesn t care about the big, glamorous things anymore but moreso the simplistic things in life.

Jack London Fire
3. The short story To Build a Fire by Jack London starts off with a man who travels to the Yukon, a
major river in Alaska and western Canada, on an extremely cold winter day with a wolf dog. The man
was a newcomer in the Yukon and this winter was going to be his first. The man is planning to meet a
group of his friends at a camp by six o clock. He plans on traveling alone with his wolf dog because
he states that he is not fazed by the cold. An older timer on Sulphur Creek warns the man to not go
into the wilder of Yukon on his own, but he refuses to listen and lets his ego get the best of him. So the
man sets forth his journey with his dog and no other companion. As the days goes on and the weather
grows colder, the ma realizes that his unprotected ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, as soon as he thinks that he is safe and thinks that the old timer did not know what he was
talking about, the fire is tarnished by the snow that fell from the spruce tree. Because the man did not
consider looking around and observing his surroundings, he builds the fire under a spruce tree, which
he immediately regrets after he finds out. This mistake might have caused the man his life. Now that
the fire had went out due to the snow, the man s hands and feet were uncovered and he knew that if he
does not start another fire he will lose them. Trying to start another fire as soon as possible the man
realizes that he cannot feel his hands. In frustration and fear the man thinks that he should kill the dog
and put his hands in his body to warm them up in order to start the fire. He does not go through with it
and tries to run as far as he can get, but falls numerous times before realizing he is going to die. The
man realizes that the old timer was right and only hoped that his friends might find his body in the
morning. He then fall off into, what seems to him, a comfortable and satisfying sleep. As soon as the
dog smells the man s scent, he runs to the

Golden State Warriors Essay
Injuries are a fact of life in professional sports. Nearly every athlete gets bitten by the injury bug at
some point in their career. Minor injuries require a few days or weeks of rest, then it s back to normal.
Major injuries, or a more significant string of major afflictions, could threaten an athlete s career. But
perhaps just as devastating is a threat to that player s public perception and legacy. Such may be the
case with Golden State Warriors point guard Steph Curry.
Following last year s MVP season, the 6 foot 3 Curry has vaulted himself into discussion as the NBA s
top player. With a nod to Cleveland Cavaliers forward Lebron James and the Oklahoma City Thunder
duo of Russell Westbrook and Kevin Durant, Curry is widely viewed as the league s best player.
It s difficult to argue otherwise.
This season, Curry will more than likely take home his second straight MVP award. His 2015 16
regular season numbers, 30.1 ppg, 5.4 rpg and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A tear in a knee ligament is months, if not a year, on the shelf. The MCL sprain could sideline Curry
for a couple of weeks, or longer depending on his body. While Golden State didn t need him to close
out the series against the Rockets, Curry s talents could be required in the next round. Fortunately for
the Warriors, their next opponent is either the surprising Portland Trailblazers or the injury ravaged
Los Angeles Clippers, which lost both Chris Paul AND Blake Griffin for the season in the same
playoff game.
Today, partially due to a glut of media coverage, Curry is viewed as an NBA superstar. While he s
definitely a superstar, some are already mentioning him as an all time great. In order to be considered
an all time great, players must consistently perform at an extremely high level Year, after year, after
year. Curry has been magnificent the last three seasons, but he ll need to continue to reach or exceed
those levels for another decade to be considered an all time

GVAHEC Staff Meeting
For this week internship, I have attended GVAHEC staff meeting on Monday September 11 at apache
Junction location. They usually do staff meeting every first Monday of the month to discuss about
their organization, but for this month, they had to postponed the meeting to the second Monday of the
month due to unavailability of some staff members. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss how to
make the organization function better. One thing that they focused on during the meeting was the
sponsorship opportunity. They want to look for more agencies that can fund their organization. So,
some people came up with new idea, which has been taken into consideration. I believe that every
month, each staff member is required to participate any meeting ... Show more content on

Remember that one of GVAHEC s missions is to educate underserved population about healthy
behavior. One staff member attended excel training, she also shared her knowledge about how to
protect their system from hackers. Another person attended community health graduation. GVAHEC
provides support to healthcare students who have financial problem, so, some of their students have
graduated. I think this meeting was very useful to me because I have learned some new things. For
example, I have learned how to look for fund raising opportunity, so, in the future, if I work with an
organization that needs sponsor, I think I can help. I have also learned through this meeting that when
I will be working with this type organization, it is very important to learn new things from other
organizations that will help my organization to prosper. On Wednesday September 13, I went to the
Phoenix location. We have finished our project regarding St Mary s food bank presentation. So, two
weeks from now, we will be presenting. I have learned many things through this project. For example,
in my future career, if I am asked to conduct a project to educate people on healthy behavior, I think I
will feel more comfortable to do

Things They Carried
Tim O Brien does a fantastic job of blurring the lines of what is true and what is fiction in The Things
They Carried. In fact, he often points out that he has made entire stories up, after the fact. He defends
his decisions by proposing that what he has done is, in fact, not lie, but rather tell a story truth. He
argues that his reason for doing this is to bring the story to life more than it could live through the
happening truth. I want you to feel what I felt. I want you to know why story truth is truer sometimes
than happening truth (O Brien, 183). O Brien believes that, when accompanied by vivid details which
essentially make the reader view the scene as a dream, story truths can carry greater emotional truths
than ever possible to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Story telling truth, as has been defined to an extent, isn t completely real. Most frequently, it is
modeled after happening truth, where it re shapes the story. Through the addition of details to the
happening truth, the story becomes more believable. Oftentimes, great morals come from story truths
where they were not previously evident in happening truths. One vivid example of this would be the
scene where Curt Lemon is killed. Following this is the baby water buffalo scene (O Brien, 74). (O
Brien, 80 81).
The details bring the story truth to life, as the reader can picture what is going on more clearly through
a sort of dream. Story truths bring events to life through the imagination. The thing about a story is
that you dream it as you tell it, hoping that others might then dream along with you, and in this way
memory and imagination and language combine to make spirits in the head. There is an illusion of
aliveness (O Brien, 218).
Oftentimes, heroic instances are added to give a story morals, where they may not have been visible to
begin with. Take, for example, the scene where O Brien describes the soldiers who come upon a killer
grenade. One of the soldiers jumped out and attempted to take the blast to save the rest of the soldiers.
Right before they all die, one of the soldiers asks why he jumped out

How Technology Has Changed Today s Generation
Technology has developed rapidly in today s generation. Physical engagement lessens as technology
progresses. The internet has become one powerful resource in today s generation. Although, the
internet is a helpful resource we must also take into consideration that not everything that is posted on
the internet is true. Many websites may post, and may state some important information that may be
intriguing which can be mistaken to be reliable. However, we must acknowledge if the website is a
reliable source by viewing its content. Recently in a community college in Oregon a shooting took
into place, and this is not the first time a mass shooting that has occurred. After the mass shooting the
President instantly responds to come out to speak to the American people. As I further wanted to
investigate on Obamas gun control speech I research the topic, and approach a site The ONION
America s Finest News Source they give a recap on Obamas speech, and they had no cites to their
sources, no author is given, they have no proof of evidence. I immediately evaluated this site to be
unreliable. When researching on the internet ask yourself if the website is stating true facts if so do
they cite their sources. Secondly, does the website introduce who they are? Do they have the
credibility to write about the certain topic? Lastly, take into consideration if they post logical evidence.
The internet is a world outside of reality, and many websites may persuade you to believe their

  • 3. Morality and God Can a person be moral and not believe in God Name PHI 103 Informal Logic Instructor Date of Submission Morality only exists if we believe in God; therefore if God doesn t exist there is no morality. There have been so many evil acts committed in the name of God that it is difficult to maintain that a belief in God equates to morality. There are situations that happen every day where decisions are made based off of human rights that contradict the word of God. Morality comes from within, it is an understanding of right versus wrong and the ability to choose what is right. Knowing all this a belief in God is not a requirement for a person to be moral. If you do not fear the wrath of God, there is nothing to stop you from committing immoral acts, or any crimes for that matter. Any situation can be overlooked because there is no fear of punishment without a fear of God. Only a person with a firm belief in God can be considered moral because they fear His punishment and desire his reward. God is the only person great enough to enforce moral standards, without his guidance there can be no binding morals. Moral standards come from God and without Him a person cannot be moral. When we talk in absolutes we ignore possibilities that exist outside of our beliefs. There are many examples of individuals that believed in God who acted immorally, as well as examples of people who do not believe in God acting with good morals. Their beliefs do not determine their morality, their acts do. If we are to base morality solely on a belief in God then which believer do we follow? Do we follow the believer who commits crimes, or only the believer who is an upstanding member of society? Adolf Hitler was raised as a Catholic, and in his adult life spoke of his religious beliefs. He wanted to create a pure Germany, through a religion known as positive Christianity. Positive Christianity removed the Jewish elements from the standard Christianity doctrine and replaced them with Nazi philosophy. Many of them came to find work and earn money to have a better life for their families. Others immigrated because they wanted to escape the corrupt political power of their homelands, such as the revolution in Mexico after 1911. Whatever the case, many found it difficult to begin again in a new country. Most immigrants lived in slums with very poor living conditions. They had to live in tenements and endure poor living conditions because they used the little income that they received to pay for food. In the book, the family s kitchen at dinner time is described by saying, The stove was cold. No food was on the table. The Smolinsky family struggles to put food on the table every night, so they could not think about sending one of their daughters to school when they desperately need money themselves. Women were simply not given the opportunity to educate themselves and therefore it was hard for them to pursue any sort of career in America. • 9. In Cold Blood Historical Accuracy In the story of In Cold Blood, the author, Truman Capote, is able to achieve his goal of creating a non fiction novel with historical accuracy, at the same time, giving it the qualities of fiction and journalism by building a story that strictly follows the actual four murders while creating other details to attach the plot together. What makes In Cold Blood like a fictional novel is that Capote makes the murder case seem like a story he made up. Capote does this by taking advantage of the fact Holcomb is not a well known town, thus, the murder of the Clutter family is not popular among the public even today. The low popularity of the case also makes it seem less practical, therefore more novel like. In addition, Capote exploits the fact ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One of the many parts that make In Cold Blood part journalism is that Capote spent roughly six years putting the story together. According to the acknowledgements in the very first few pages of In Cold Blood, the author spent six years collecting information, interviewed the people involved directly and indirectly with the case and even Dick and Perry themselves. Based on the information from these sources, Capote is able to present what happened precisely and accurately. Unlike many books based on true stories, In Cold Blood is a historical event manifested in the form of a book. The characters are actual people and Holcomb is a real place. Another journalistic trait Capote weaves into his book is that Dick and Perry are not described as a duo of monstrous killers but victims as well. Capote empathizes with the two, showing there is more to them than what meets the eye by humanizing Dick and Perry, revealing their hobbies, history, personalities, and their morale, breaking off from the stereotypical views of murderers, thus making the plot more ... • 11. Theme Of Symbolism In Sea Of The Sea The novel is rich in symbolism that enhances both the plot and the Themes. The major symbol is the sea, which stands for all of life on which man must sail. In both the sea and in life, there are a number of possibilities that lie hidden from the common eye; some are gifts to be treasured and some are problems to be defeated. Neither will be found unless man embarks upon the journey. If man is lucky enough to discover a treasure (be it love or family or education), he must fight until death to retain it; if man is unlucky enough to discover an evil lurking underneath the surface of the sea (any one of life s varied problems), he must fight it bravely and nobly until the end. In either case, it is the struggle that is all important, and a man obtains the status of hero if he battles the sea (life) with grace under pressure. In the novel, Santiago embarks on a sea journey (life) and encounters a giant marlin (treasure). He battles nobly to earn the treasure and then fights the sharks (problems) to save it. The struggle defines him as a hero. Even though he loses the treasure (the marlin) to the sharks (the problems), he has won the sea battle (life). In addition, Santiago serves as a metaphor for the creative artist, someone like Hemingway himself. He is capable in his profession, has proved his talent several times before, but that is not sufficient. He has to prove it every day, for every day is a new day. • 15. Testing The Quality Of The Flour And Gluten Properties Mixograph A mixograph is a test that bakers use to test the quality of the flour. This test is very similar to the farinograph. The farinograph and mixograph both test for the mixing quality of the dough and gluten properties. The main difference between the mixograph and the farinograph, is the mixograph needs a much smaller sample to run the test. The sample size for the farinograph is anywhere between 50 300 grams while the mixograph can run samples of 5, 10, and 35 grams. The only drawback is it cannot test the absorption because it uses a set amount of water for each test (Dapcevic). The theory behind developing the mixograph was there was a high demand for a machine that can use a smaller sample size to test the dough and gluten properties. This test is used to tell the baker the quality of the flour and how much water will be needed to add to this blend of flour to optimally mix it. The mixograph curve suggests mixing time requirement, tolerance, and optimum water absorption (Sherwood). The mixograph test helps the baker know the mixing qualities of the dough in a quick and precise way. It takes the guessing out of whether if there is enough water in the dough or if it is mixed optimally. The amount of water added to the test effects the peak optimum mixing time for the dough; dry doughs have a shorter peak time while wet doughs have a longer peak time. To find the optimum absorption use the equation y=1.5X+43.6, y=Abs, x=[protein] 14%moisture basis. By knowing this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Furthermore, daily exposure limit is often reached well before the conclusion of the practice session or ensemble rehearsal. The evidence is sufficient to prompt music educators to be aware of and concerned about the role of NIHL in the classroom. Chesky (2008) argues that the music education community needs to realize that children in the United States are not learning about NIHL as part of the public school curriculum (p. 37). The architecture highlights every painting and sculpture through its use of veil, vault, and the exhibition spaces. Though it will continue to be controversial, many architects will see the Broad Museum as the wave of future. The concept of the veil and the vault in designing the broad is based on joining the two parts of the building: one of them is public exhibition space and the other one is collection storage. Instead of relegating the storage to secondary place, the vault, plays an important role in making the museum experience from entry to exit. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

One of these art forms being the Dreamworks animated movie, The Prince of Egypt. Some major themes that are used between the two are leadership, determination and faith. One major theme in The Prince of Egypt that relates to the BAIL story of Joseph is determination. The story of Joseph is about Jacob s son Joseph and how his brothers despised him. The Process Of Deduction Logic In social research, traditional and non traditional methods are used to explore and examine research queries and relate methods of data collection and observation. One conventionally accepted method is through deductive logic. Deductive logic is research that begins with a theory and arrives at a specific expectation through a series of scientific steps. Both explanatory and exploratory techniques can be used in deductive. In contrast, inductive methods, in which researchers examine specific data sets and detect general patterns, are considered non traditional. In inductive logic, the identification of empirical patterns result in a generalization about some social process (Schutt, 2012, p. 45). The process of deduction logic begins with statements, also known as premises , that are assumed to be true. A determination is made regarding additional factors that must be true if the premises are true. A special logical structure, known as modus ponens, is a rule asserting that a hypothetical proposition according to which if the antecedent be affirmed, the consequent is affirmed (Merriam Webster, 2015). The form of any argument having the structure of modus ponens is as follows: Given P, if P then Q, so, Q. Dulce Et Decorum Est And Jessie Pope s The poems Dulce et Decorum Est by Wilfred Owen and Who s for the Game? by Jessie Pope are direct antitheses of each other, such that their views about war, the chosen literary schemes, and the effects on the readers are exact opposites in each view. Who s for the Game? is a strong pro war poem with a simplistic rhyme scheme, basic meaning, shallow imagery, and is intended to provoke and challenge young men into joining the war. Conversely, Dulce et Decorum Est is an anti war poem with a relatively more complicated rhyme scheme, complex meaning, deep imagery, and is intended to discourage those who write such propaganda as Who s for the Game? . The authors of these poems have polar opposite views on the topic of war, and of fighting for one s country. Jessie Pope is pro war, and her poem can be reduced down to provoking propaganda with the intent of encouraging young men into joining the war. However, his use of exile in many different forms can be found in a variety of Crichton Smith s poetry, resulting in what can be analysed as a deeper and more meaningful sense of the idea of exile. He effectively explores the cultural and religious background behind those who ultimately distance themselves from the reality of the modern day world he was living in. He explores the idea of death as a final type of exile which can be interpreted as the subject of the poem turning away from death in hopes that they can flee from the inescapable finality of death. • 43. Themes In The Great Gatsby Time. It affects all of what we know and are. Living in the past can affect your present, and living in the future can affect your present. We see that as we read both The Great Gatsby and The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock . Three common themes arise in both of these literatures. Those themes are: mortality, memories/the past, and isolation. When we realize that we are not immortal, we then tend to focus on our past or our memories we have made because those are what we lived for because we don t want to be isolated when we are older. They may not seem like they are connected, but all three of these very much so affect one s life and how they live it. That is shown throughout the characters narrated. In The Great Gatsby , some of the characters know that they are past their prime. They don t need to be the center of attention or anything like that because they understand that it isn t their time to shine anymore. That s shown in this example: I belong to another generation... As for me, I am fifty years old, and I won t impose myself on you any longer. They have accepted that they are not it anymore. Even though the theme is common between both passages, it means something different in The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock . The meaning is different here because the author knew he was past his prime and all that he had done means nothing now. He doesn t care about the big, glamorous things anymore but moreso the simplistic things in life. Like whether to roll his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Jack London Fire 3. The short story To Build a Fire by Jack London starts off with a man who travels to the Yukon, a major river in Alaska and western Canada, on an extremely cold winter day with a wolf dog. The man was a newcomer in the Yukon and this winter was going to be his first. The man is planning to meet a group of his friends at a camp by six o clock. He plans on traveling alone with his wolf dog because he states that he is not fazed by the cold. An older timer on Sulphur Creek warns the man to not go into the wilder of Yukon on his own, but he refuses to listen and lets his ego get the best of him. So the man sets forth his journey with his dog and no other companion. As the days goes on and the weather grows colder, the ma realizes that his unprotected ... However, as soon as he thinks that he is safe and thinks that the old timer did not know what he was talking about, the fire is tarnished by the snow that fell from the spruce tree. Because the man did not consider looking around and observing his surroundings, he builds the fire under a spruce tree, which he immediately regrets after he finds out. This mistake might have caused the man his life. Now that the fire had went out due to the snow, the man s hands and feet were uncovered and he knew that if he does not start another fire he will lose them. Trying to start another fire as soon as possible the man realizes that he cannot feel his hands. In frustration and fear the man thinks that he should kill the dog and put his hands in his body to warm them up in order to start the fire. He does not go through with it and tries to run as far as he can get, but falls numerous times before realizing he is going to die. The man realizes that the old timer was right and only hoped that his friends might find his body in the morning. He then fall off into, what seems to him, a comfortable and satisfying sleep. • 45. Golden State Warriors Essay Injuries are a fact of life in professional sports. Nearly every athlete gets bitten by the injury bug at some point in their career. Minor injuries require a few days or weeks of rest, then it s back to normal. Major injuries, or a more significant string of major afflictions, could threaten an athlete s career. But perhaps just as devastating is a threat to that player s public perception and legacy. Such may be the case with Golden State Warriors point guard Steph Curry. Following last year s MVP season, the 6 foot 3 Curry has vaulted himself into discussion as the NBA s top player. With a nod to Cleveland Cavaliers forward Lebron James and the Oklahoma City Thunder duo of Russell Westbrook and Kevin Durant, Curry is widely viewed as the league s best player. It s difficult to argue otherwise. This season, Curry will more than likely take home his second straight MVP award. His 2015 16 regular season numbers, 30.1 ppg, 5.4 rpg and ... While Golden State didn t need him to close out the series against the Rockets, Curry s talents could be required in the next round. Fortunately for the Warriors, their next opponent is either the surprising Portland Trailblazers or the injury ravaged Los Angeles Clippers, which lost both Chris Paul AND Blake Griffin for the season in the same playoff game. Today, partially due to a glut of media coverage, Curry is viewed as an NBA superstar. While he s definitely a superstar, some are already mentioning him as an all time great. In order to be considered an all time great, players must consistently perform at an extremely high level Year, after year, after year. • 48. Things They Carried Tim O Brien does a fantastic job of blurring the lines of what is true and what is fiction in The Things They Carried. In fact, he often points out that he has made entire stories up, after the fact. He defends his decisions by proposing that what he has done is, in fact, not lie, but rather tell a story truth. He argues that his reason for doing this is to bring the story to life more than it could live through the happening truth. I want you to feel what I felt. I want you to know why story truth is truer sometimes than happening truth (O Brien, 183). O Brien believes that, when accompanied by vivid details which essentially make the reader view the scene as a dream, story truths can carry greater emotional truths than ever possible to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Story telling truth, as has been defined to an extent, isn t completely real. Most frequently, it is modeled after happening truth, where it re shapes the story. Through the addition of details to the happening truth, the story becomes more believable. Oftentimes, great morals come from story truths where they were not previously evident in happening truths. One vivid example of this would be the scene where Curt Lemon is killed. Following this is the baby water buffalo scene (O Brien, 74). (O Brien, 80 81). The details bring the story truth to life, as the reader can picture what is going on more clearly through a sort of dream. Story truths bring events to life through the imagination. The thing about a story is that you dream it as you tell it, hoping that others might then dream along with you, and in this way memory and imagination and language combine to make spirits in the head. There is an illusion of aliveness (O Brien, 218). Oftentimes, heroic instances are added to give a story morals, where they may not have been visible to begin with. Take, for example, the scene where O Brien describes the soldiers who come upon a killer grenade. One of the soldiers jumped out and attempted to take the blast to save the rest of the soldiers. • 49. How Technology Has Changed Today s Generation Technology has developed rapidly in today s generation. Physical engagement lessens as technology progresses. The internet has become one powerful resource in today s generation. Although, the internet is a helpful resource we must also take into consideration that not everything that is posted on the internet is true. Many websites may post, and may state some important information that may be intriguing which can be mistaken to be reliable. However, we must acknowledge if the website is a reliable source by viewing its content. Recently in a community college in Oregon a shooting took into place, and this is not the first time a mass shooting that has occurred. After the mass shooting the President instantly responds to come out to speak to the American people. As I further wanted to investigate on Obamas gun control speech I research the topic, and approach a site The ONION America s Finest News Source they give a recap on Obamas speech, and they had no cites to their sources, no author is given, they have no proof of evidence. I immediately evaluated this site to be unreliable. When researching on the internet ask yourself if the website is stating true facts if so do they cite their sources. Secondly, does the website introduce who they are? Do they have the credibility to write about the certain topic? Lastly, take into consideration if they post logical evidence.
