The Relationship Between Life Expectancy at Birth and Gdp...
The relationship between Life Expectancy at birth and GDP per capita (PPP)

Word Count: 2907
Section 1: Introduction
In a given country, Life Expectancy at birth is the expected number of years of life from birth. Gross
domestic product per capita is defined as the market value of all final goods and services produced
within a country in one year, divided by the size of the population of that country.
The main objective of the present project is to establish the existence of a statistical relation between
Life Expectancy (y) at birth and GDP per capita (x). First, we will present in Section 2 the data, from
an official governmental source, containing Life ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Basic statistics for the GDP per capita:
Mean: x=i=148xi48 = 12900
In order to compute the median, we need to order the GDP values:
600, 700, 1100, 1500, 1600, 1900, 2100, 2200, 2500, 2900,
2900, 3200, 3300, 3900, 4000, 4100, 4300, 4800, 5000, 6000,
6300, 6700, 7600, 7600, 9100, 9900, 10600, 10700, 11200, 12300,

28200, 28800, 29000, 29100, 29800, 30000, 31100, 37800.
The median is obtained as the middle value of the two central values (the 25th and the 26th):
Median= 7600+91002 = 8350
In order to compute the modal class, we need to split the data in classes.
If we consider classes of USD 1000 (0 999, 1000 1999, ...) we have the following table of frequencies:
Class | Frequency | 0 999 | 2 | 1000 1999 | 4 | 2000 2999 | 5 | 3000 3999 | 3 | 4000 4999 | 4 | 5000 5999

Why The Drinking Age Should Be Illegal
Over 70% of teenagers by age 18 have illegally had at least one drink, if not many more. I can say
from being in school and the social scene, I know many more people my age that have had drinks
illegally, than people who have not. I think the main reason for this is because we are told we can t.
Teenagers, and humans in general do a lot of things just to rebel. It gives a sense of thrill in our
stressful lives and environments. So instead of punishing it, we should legalize it and educate minors
on how to drink responsibly. The idea may come off as naive and unrealistic, but look at the rest of the
world and how many countries allow a younger drinking age. I have been traveling around Europe for
the past few months and I have learned some things

The Issue Of Violence Against Women
Violence against women includes many kinds of harmful physical, emotional, and sexual behaviors
against women and girls that are most often displayed by a family member, or at times by strangers.
Violence against women is a growing worldwide issue yet it s still a hidden problem. Most of us have
a hard time imagining the concept of violence against women. The freedom from threat of harassment,
battering, and sexual assault is hard to grips. Violence is a deep part of our culture and our everyday
lives. The problem of violence against women rages all over the world and is a crisis in almost all
societies. In the past, this problem was called domestic violence but has recently changed to violence
against women. The term domestic violence does not demonstrate that almost all cases of domestic
abuse are men injuring women. How important is the issue of violence against women to the citizen of
American? Many people simply do acknowledge the impact and importance that it has on the female
population in the United States. Although there are many other important concerns to focus on, this
issue is often overlooked and pushed to the side. Picking this topic was important to me, because I
dealt with domestic abuse for many years from a former partner. Before experiencing such a difficult
hardship I didn t have much knowledge on this topic. Most women don t believe they could be ever be
a victim of domestic abuse. According to www.feminsit.com Battering is the leading cause of

What Makes An Effective Leader
Leadership A leader is somebody who stands for his cause as well as assumes liability and propels
different people moreover. There is an unmistakable contrast between being a supervisor and a leader.
A leader is an inspiration for others and rouses people to point high and accomplish that point.
However a manager just regulates over his subordinates. Control actually goes to a pioneer, yet that
power is not a device of leader. Or maybe on the off chance that one tries to control the conditions
with power it ends up being dictator. Authority is not a quality but rather it is an individual s conduct.
A pioneer showcases an inspirational disposition and high self regard. ... Show more content on

A pioneer is somebody that many individuals look to for bearing, direction, and motivation, so it is
critical for our pioneers to have the bent to settle on troublesome choices and to know and make the
wisest decision for the general population. A higher power is pivotal for overseeing and controlling
others and also being a case of a hard and devoted specialist. A viable pioneer has character,
capability, sympathy, and valor. Character is, as talked about in class, conceivably the most critical
normal for a pioneer. A man s actual character is the kind of people they are the point at which they
are placed in a troublesome circumstance. It is the choices and the ethical quality of a pioneer that
gives them the respectable character that others hope to take after. It is fundamental for a pioneer to
have character on the grounds that a pioneer needs the capacity to see what other can t, the penances
that must be made, regardless of the possibility that the yield is their own, or someone else s

are black, Malaysian, Hispanic. He also has a Native American heritage on his dad s side. He is gay
and has a gay uncle and aunt. His dad, who worked in the military used to joke about many things
including homosexuality, became more careful about what he says after he found out Joe is gay. Joe
never perceives himself as a typical American and rather to be seen who he is deep down the skin. His
story echoes with other participants who feel we should not simplify people into categories. Everyone

The Human Resource Management System
Recruitment and Selection constitute the main functions of the human resource management system
Recruitment and selection are two critical functions of human resource management. Taking into
consideration both the capacities the recruitment process goes before the selection capacity. These
functions form is basically the core fundamental that engulf the human resource management and
includes that of talent acquisition and training and development and even rewards for the employees.
For a human resource manager, it s an important aspect of their job description. Recruitment is the
first stage all the while which proceeds with selection and closures with the placement of the
applicant. But both the processes of recruitment and selection is vital playing an important part to
ensure the performance of the workers impact a positive outcome of the organization that they are
working for. It is regularly asserted that selection of workers happens not simply to supplant leaving
workers or add to a workforce, but instead expects to put set up workers who can perform at an
abnormal state and exhibit responsibility. (Ballantyne, 2009)
According to Edwin B Flippo (Flippo, 1994) recruitment is basically a process of the search of the
prospective candidate encouraging and direction them to apply for jobs in an organization. (Rao). It is
part of the staffing function as a management process. It may lead to an employer choosing the right
candidate for the right job bestowing the

Citizens on Patrol
Citizens on Patrol
What would an individual do to keep their home or neighborhood safe? The answer has become quite
popular over the last few decades. In fact neighborhood prevention is becoming extremely popular as
well as successfully reducing crime in some neighborhoods. One of the major forms of neighborhood
crime prevention is citizen patrol. Citizen patrol or often referred to as citizen on patrol is extremely
popular due to the fact that it solely relies on surveillance. Furthermore, not only do these individuals
volunteer their time to simply observe, they produce dramatic results in the process and work with law
enforcement officers to stop neighborhood crime.
What is the citizen on patrol program? According to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example a neighborhood with a large number of kids would not need patrolling during after
school hours because the parents would be home. A common misconception is that citizen patrols only
watch the neighborhood. However according to National Association of Citizen Patrol many citizen
patrol control traffic at accident scenes, special events, crime scenes, fires, in addition to focused
patrols in high crime areas for deterrence.
The Citizen on Patrol program is an effective measure of crime prevention for most communities. The
name alone acts as a deterrence of crime to many. According to the Baltimore Police County Police
Department the majority of our patrols have drastically reduced crime in their neighborhoods and
eliminated the suspicious activity associated with crime, thereby enhancing the overall quality of life
in the community. One major benefit of the citizen patrol involves the cost saving of law enforcement
and communities. For example the citizen patrols are volunteers so these individuals save tax payers
and law enforcement major bucks. It is not uncommon for an average size Citizen Patrol group of 50
members to provide a budget savings of several hundred thousand dollars a year by performing these
duties. The funds saved can then be used to put more Officers and Deputies on the streets or purchase
needed equipment. In addition to budget savings, it is not uncommon for active Citizen

The Character Of Iago In William Shakespeare s Othello
Iago is telling Roderigo that he can get revenge, and feel better about the fact that he did not get the
job by manipulating Othello. Later, he explains to Roderigo that he is going to convince Othello that
his wife is cheating on him with Cassio and if everyone knows Desdemona cheated on him, it would
ruin his image in the eyes of the people. Not only, does Iago show that he is exploitive and uses people
to get his way,
Live Roderigo,
He calls me to a restitution large
Of gold and jewels that I bobbed from him
As gifts to Desdemona. [...] And besides, the Moor
May unfold me to him. (5.1.15 22) Iago is telling Roderigo about his plan and how it will not only be
a masterful plan if it works, but it will really hurt Othello. Being exploitive does not end with Othello
and only continues his evil plan by convincing Desdemona to defend Cassio to Othello. She thinks
that she is helping a friend get his job back and is too nice to say no to Iago, when really Iago is telling
Othello that Desdemona and Cassio are involved. The patient uses his manipulative abilities to get his
job he thinks he deserves while achieving destruction of Cassio and Othello s life.
Once in awhile, being envious of someone is normal but in Iago s case he is too envious and it sparks
him to do irreversible damage, to the lives of those around him. The authors conclude, that the patient
with narcissistic personality disorder can show these symptoms; Is often envious of others or believes

Sunny Baudelaire Characters
When reading the very long series, A Series of Unfortunate Events, I have found that there are
multiple characters that peak my interests when reading and are very rememberable. From a woman
who only likes things that are in , to a dastardly Count, and to the news reporter that ruins the main
trio s lives. But I have found that my favorite character is one of the three main characters, Sunny
Baudelaire. I feel like she is a very fun character, and that one of her new hobbies is something I can
relate to. Sunny Baudelaire originally starts off, as a helpless baby who no one can understand except
her siblings and a knack for biting things with her sharp teeth. But as the series goes on, especially in
The Hostile Hospital and The Slippery Slope, poor Sunny matures very quickly because of all the
horrible events that have occurred in her life because of the notorious Count Olaf. In the tenth book,
The Slippery Slope, after concocting a plan to find the mysterious Sugar Bowl, Sunny tells her sister
Violet that, I m not... I m not a baby (Snicket 10 ). It also can be seen through the way she speaks.
Sunny is known for her baby talk which is only understandable by her siblings. In The Bad Beginning,

Didion s Some Dreamers of the Golden Dream
In Some Dreamers of the Golden Dream, the author Didion uses fiery imagery to parallel the San
Bernardino Valley to hell. It is a place where the
hills blaze up spontaneously, and every voice seems a scream. (p.3) Didions hellish descriptions of the
geography reflect the culture of San Bernardino
Valley. It is where the hot wind blows and the old ways do not seem relevant, where the divorce rate is
double the national average. (p.4) In this culture, the importance of the old ways, such as a long

Edward Foley, a man only looking to benefit himself, shows no respect or regard for the Lucille
Miller tragedy. Two people are killed and one person is sent to an institution for life; yet, Edward
Foley tries to utilize this opportunity to make money for himself. Another example of a depreciation of
societys principles is the scene for
Lucille Millers murder case trial. College girls camped at the courthouse all night, with stores of
graham crackers and No Cal. Also, identification disks were issued to the first forty three spectators in
line. (p.20) The trial is described not as a practice of law but as a sporting event. Just as there are hot
dog vendors at a sports game, there are stores of graham crackers and No
Cal at the trial. Also, Didions use of the word spectators suggests that the people inside the courtroom
are looking upon the trial like a sports game.
Didion later refers to the courtroom seats as the spectators section. (p.25) A sporting event is not taken
seriously. Therefore, Didions comparison of the trial to a sports game undermines the seriousness of
law and order in the San
Bernardino society. She implies that a self seeking and avaricious culture results in chaos.
Lucille Miller is a prime example of an individual affected by the narcissistic culture.. Lucille, a
woman motivated by love and greed (p.22) does whatever is necessary to get what she wants. First,

Intellectual Property And The Copyright Act Of 1976
Intellectual property represents ideas created by minds of humans that require certain rights for their
use. Intellectual property gives companies a competitive advantage and attracts the attention of other
business partners and investors (Lee, 2016). With such importance, it is necessary for the law to
protect these ideas from being used by unauthorized individuals. To shield from this, trade secrets,
patents, and copyrights are used to protect the ownership of intellectual property (Legal Information
Institute).
A copyright gives the originator of literary, artistic, or music works the right to perform, publish,
record, or print them. This can include sound recordings, paintings, photographs, films, melodies,
television, radio broadcasts, cable programs, performances, and even codes to computer programs
(Legal Information Institute). Since copyrights cover several different types of materials, the duration
varies depending on what work is being protected. According to the Copyright Act of 1976, musical,
artistic, and literary works created after January 1, 1978 have copyrights that last 70 years after the
author has passed away, 95 years after publication, or 120 years from creation, whichever expires first
(United States Copyright Office, 2011). However, the published editions of these works have
copyrights that last 25 years after being first published. Broadcast and cable programs, on the other
hand, have a copyright duration of 50 years after being created

In this assignment I would like to talk about arithmetic sequences and geometric sequences and want
to give an example each how to calculate with those sequences. First I want to give a short definition
of each sequence.
An arithmetic sequence is a sequence of numbers in which each succeeding term differs from the
preceding term by the same amount. This amount is known as the common difference. (Bluman, A. G.
2500, page 221)
An example for an arithmetic sequence is:
1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11, ... (The common difference is 2. (Bluman, A. G. 2500, page 221)

For a better overview I write everything down again: n = 9 d = $ 25 a1 = $ 100 a9 = ?
I use the following formula to find out a9: an = a1 + (n 1)d
Now we put the numbers we have into the formula: a9 = 100 + (9 1)(25) a9 = 100 + 8(25) a9 = 100 +
200 a9 = 300 a9= $ 300
Now that we have a9 we can we can calculate the costs for a 90 foot tower with the following
formula:
Sn = n(a1 + a n) / 2
S9 = 9(100 + 300) / 2
S9 = 9(400) / 2
S9 = 4.5(400)
S9= 1,800
S9 = $ 1,800
The cost for a 90 foot CB tower will be $ 1,800.
This exercise involves an arithmetic sequence because the cost of the labor for each succeeding 10
feet is $25 more than the preceding 10 feet. The first 10 feet the cost of the labor is $ 100. The next 10
feet are $ 25 more and the next 10 feet $ 25 more and so on.
10 feet = $ 100; 20 feet = $ 125; 30 feet = $ 150; 40 feet = $ 175; ...

Reflection About Suffering
Introduction
Christians know other Christians are prone to suffering. Non Christians I have spoken to believe that
Christians have a happy life. Non believers believe we do not endure suffering simply because in their
reality, God is personified as a genie; Christians can simply pray for what they desire in life; examples
including money, power, wealth, and the Lord will grant those desires immediately. However,
Christians know suffering is inevitable. From a theological standpoint, suffering is defined as: the
experience of physical pain and mental distress. ( suffering ) If individuals were to evaluate suffering
from a Christian perspective, we must realize categories that come with suffering. First, suffering is
the consequence of the flawed nature of creation. Second, suffering is the direct consequence of one s
violation of God s laws. Third, suffering can be good for our faith, and finally suffering is embedded
in truth, Christianity, and within the church. Historical Development
Before looking at the categories which formulate suffering, I would like to look at Christian authors
who agreed with my categories of suffering and who also sparked my inspiration for evaluating
suffering from a believer s viewpoint.
The first author is John Bunyan. His book, The Pilgrim s Progress tells the story of Christian, a
pilgrim who journeys from the City of Destruction to the Celestial City. The City of Destruction
emulates the world; Celestial City heaven. Christian was

assume she s talking about all boys and all girls schools. Deborah Tannen describes girls as typically
inclined to choose one female friend with whom they ll build a strong and exclusive bond that
revolves around secretive conversation. She goes on to generalize boys as being much more willing to
socialize with a broader peer group in the form of playful activities, and to use those activities to
exhibit their skill, verbally express their knowledge, and to establish their rank in a pecking order.
Where Deborah Tannen sees controversy in this is that most ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

That s where I become reluctant to recommend Deborah Tannen s teaching strategy. Looking back on
my public education experience I can think of a lot more exceptions to this description of how boys
and girls use language differently than agreements. Again, I m relying on personal experiences and I
can of course also recall instances where men have dominated a classroom discussion. However, for
me to say that all boys dominated girls during classroom discussions in Phoenix, AZ during the last
stretch of the 20th century or that all girls are reluctant to speak publicly outside of the comfort of
their peer group in Honolulu, HI during the beginning of the 21st century would be disingenuous and
could probably be attributed to an expectancy bias.
Could these statements hold true in a different time, culture or geography? Absolutely. My guess is
that none of the cited researchers whose work this article was predicated upon could have possibly
conceived of a world where, new students that are assigned a questionnaire on Alcohol and Other
Drugs , have six categories to choose from under gender . Though, I have been to plenty of countries
that are ostensibly 20 30 years behind our cultural revolutions where segregation is more prevalent
and gender identity is sufficiently binary to benefit from Deborah s

encouraged employees to join labor unions and to criticize employers who refused workers the right to

Essay On Heteronormativity
We live in a realm of social standards. For instance, men and women are expected to be attracted to
the opposite sex. If an individual deviates from this social norm, he or she is considered to be odd by
numerous communities. Through socialization, we are taught that being heterosexual is normal.
Although being homosexual in today s society is simpler than it would be 100 years ago, it remains a
monumental challenge.
Music, movies, television shows, all educates us that an intimate relationship is assumed to be
between a man and a woman. The bible says that marriage is an institution between a man and a
woman. This culture that is created by people and institutions is called heteronormativity, or a
situation where society sends a message that everybody is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Together, heterosexism and heteronormativity are social processes that aid generating and sustaining
gender differences and gender inequality; this is often referred to as the social construction of gender.
Heterosexism or homophobia, and heteronormativity have influenced society s outlook towards the

What They Don T Tell You Analysis
Through these rules of thumb within Brown s What They Don t Tell You, I am able to gain a safe and
secure ay of approaching the Old Testament without becoming overly ambitious or ignorant. Overall I
would add to Brown s discussion the continuation of Biblical Scholarship. And in reading the Old
Testament the most important rule of thumb for myself would be the seventh.
One rule of thumb that I found most important in my interpretation of the Old Testament is an
overactive imagination can get you into trouble . Within the Old Testament, with the various time
skips and larger than life events such as the creation story, it is difficult not to over imagine different
narratives within the text. By keeping my imagination to a minimum and interpreting the Old
Testament for what it is, acknowledging the facts within the text and keeping things in perspective,
interpreting the Old Testament remains closer to the original narrative and is not overly exaggerated.
The rules of thumbs by Brown helped keep a safety net in interpreting the Old Testament and offered
great approaching methods when reading the texts as well. The basic ... Show more content on

the feeling of sensitivity and is appealing to female emotions. All women can relate to the feeling of
menstrual cycles. Most women feel sluggish, and bloated with water weight. With the font being very
tall and stick like, it takes away the feeling of bloating and gives more of a tall and slender feel. The
words used in the ad are also very persuasive. When thinking of a menstrual cycle, the words that
come to my mind are dirty, bothersome, and bulky. The ad clearly changes my mind by using such
words as protection, clean, carefree, small and compact. The brand Tampax has been around for
several years. The fact that they have a product they now call Tampax Pearl is a clever way to
advertise, as many consumers relate pearl to the color white and the color white to cleanliness. In
order for Tampax to persuade consumers to buy their product they effectively used popular teenage
role models, genuine settings, props, and context that is clearly relatable to teenage girls. Good

Toleration is achieved through indifference, by a feeling that any religion might be right, and also by
the fact that nomadic society was accustomed to the practice of many religions. Today, one sixth of the
world and 95 percent of the people of Pakistan are Muslim. Most Muslims in Pakistan take religion
much more seriously than Americans or Europeans do. There are much fewer agnostics or freethinkers
in Pakistan than there are in the West. For most Pakistanis, religion is not so much a matter of
individual belief as it is a matter of revealed truth and a lifetime duty. A quarter of all Pakistanis pray
five times a day. Many more pray at least once a day. The times a day when a crier, or an amplified
taped recording of a crier, gives the azan, or prayer call, are just before dawn, after noon, an hour
before sunset, about an hour after sunset, and about two and a half hours after sunset. Before entering
a mosque (a Muslim temple) men take their sandals off at the entrance. (Women usually do not go to

Gesture Is An Important Part Of Language
Gesture is an important part of language the world over. Apart from sign languages, gestures, or
talking with one s hands, largely go unnoticed by a majority of speakers. That being said, there are
some gestures that are so integral to a language that ignoring them is impossible. Such gestures can
widely vary across languages and the world, and making a mistake with them can be disastrous. To
alleviate some of this confusion, incorporating gestures into dictionaries of a specific language or
country may be helpful, as well as indexing and recording such gestures. This process, though, may
prove to be a complicated endeavor. Gestures, due to their ubiquitous use and arbitrary meanings,
should be indexed conclusively into dictionaries of their corresponding languages and possibly even
resources of their own. Gesture is an incredibly effective way to convey an idea and are an essential
part of many languages. In most languages, gesture serves as a way to emphasize speech or to say a
short phrase without speaking. They have been conventionalized in society, and while they do not
have all the same linguistic properties as words do, their meaning within their culture is undeniable.
As Rousseau says, one speaks more effectively to the eye than to the ear. (8) It can be hard to mistake
something as simple as a head nod or a wave in greeting. Gestures such as the ones above and others
such as thumbs up, now ingrained in social media sites such as Facebook, are everywhere in

Jury System
The Jury System

By: Khalil Meghji
The jury system has been used for thousands of years to fairly determine innocence or guilt in a trial.
Although not utilized as much as in the past it is still used for most criminal and some civil cases. This
leads to an unjust legal system full of bias. The jury system was first seen in use by the ancient Greeks
thousands of years ago[1]. Though the system was the fairest way to produce a verdict, it cannot apply
today because society has endured a change which taints the foundation of a fair trial by jury. Juries

This can alter the impact of evidence or testimony and the juror cannot make an informed decision.
The jury is not familiar with the law which can lead to confusion about different legal terms, what
evidence is considered circumstantial and how to exclude that from their decision after seeing it in
court. A jury comprised of the general public are also much more open to being influenced by how a
lawyer presents their case and not by evidence. Since the jury does not have any knowledge of
forensics they can be influenced by expert witnesses put on the stand by both the defense and the
prosecution which are completely contradictory.
The jury system has been used for thousands of years however, there are more logical and economical
methods to judge innocence or guilt fairly. While the jury system is not only taxing on the government
s resources it is also very difficult for the juror s. A juror in Canada is not compensated for trials under
10 days, if a trial runs from 11 49 days they get forty dollars a day, after 49 days the juror s receive
one hundred dollars per day[6]. To put a working citizen in the position of losing up to ten days pay to
serve in jury duty is very difficult. Being put into jury duty potentially carries other costs such as
childcare and transportation which is not covered by the government.

The Psychological Cost Of Children During The American...
Lt. Col. Dave Grossman is a former army Ranger, paratrooper, and west point psychology professor.
Grossman is a world renown expert in the field of human aggression and the psychology of combat
(Grossman et. al, 2007). In his book, On Killing: The Psychological Cost of Learning to Kill in War
and Society, he talks about non firing rate. Non firing rate is the percentage of soldiers who freeze up
during combat, and do not fire their weapon. There has been documentation of non firing rate dating
back to 1863, during the American Civil War. There is even documentation to prove that both World
War I and II soldiers displayed the same consistence in failing to fire their weapons; but why is this
important? The weapons had the proficiency to kill, but the soldier holding the weapon did not. All the
documentation of soldier s inability to fire their weapon indicates that there is a psychological power
greater than military training (Gorssman et. al., 1995). This force acts as a blockade, preventing man
from standing before man, and engaging in the conscious act of taking the life of a person. Even when
faced with the decision to kill the man standing before him, or be killed, evidence shows that man will
be killed before he kills (Grossman et. al., 1995). Thus, providing the evidence needed to indicate
humans are not born with the capability to kill. Engaging in combat has taken a tole on the mental
well being of the military service members.

The Effect Of Desalination On An Ecological Balance By...
1.0 Introduction
The process of desalination is to remove salt (Oxford English Dictionary, 2014 ) from a currently
saline water source. This means that in places of very or relatively low precipitation, a source of fresh
water is still available. This method of obtaining drinking water is expensive, therefore only certain
nations can afford it.
Sustainability is defined as conserving an ecological balance by avoiding depletion of natural
resources (Oxford English Dictionary, 2014 ). This comes in three forms. These are economic,
environmental and social sustainability. In terms of whether desalination is sustainable, sustainability
must be present in all three factors. If one of the forms is not present, then it is not fully ... Show more

This figure is staggering and by constructing and developing desalination plants, this figure can be
reduced as more fresh drinking water will become available to people.
However, the process of desalination is not easy to do on a large scale in underdeveloped areas due to
the cost of the energy input, as well as taking into account the environmental issues alongside it.
Desalination is a difficult process to do inland, partly for accessing the water, which would have to be
obtained from aquifers (Elsaid et al., 2012) and partly for having to dispose of the brine. Therefore, it
is a process which is mainly found in coastal areas.
1.1 The desalination process
Desalination works through reverse osmosis, this process removes 99% of the salt and cleans the
water (Government of South Australia, 2014).
Water undergoing reverse osmosis goes through a number of stages. It starts with pre treatment where
the water is treated to a certain level to get rid of any solids and to bring the pH to the required level,
as well as adding a threshold inhibitor which controls scaling from chemicals such as calcium sulphate
(Organisation of American States, 2014 ). After this pre treatment, the water goes through
pressurisation, where the pre treated water is filtered through membranes, reducing the salinity of the
water. Following this, a process of separation is used which inhibits dissolved salts, while allowing the

Of Hospitality By Jacques Derrida
Jacques Derrida created controversy and theories that have influenced philosophy, literature,
linguistics, anthropology and a number of other fields. The scope of his work is so large that some
argue it unreasonable to accept his word as legitimate in0 certain fields. In Of Hospitality, Derrida
describes and brings to the forefront one of the primary issues of cosmopolitan ethics; what is the
appropriate approach to extending and receiving hospitality and what are the implications of such
action? Through an intensive understanding of this work, Derrida eventually reaches the conclusion
that the balance between being absolutely hospitable and conditionally hospitable is completely
necessary. Is it more just and more loving to question or not to question? (Of Hospitality, 29). Each
has the ability to corrupt the other but both are needed in order for hospitality and, in general, socially
responsible behavior.
Why this is important
Hospitality cannot be practically applied without the host establishing some set of limits, but at the
exact time these limits are created, the visitor/guest is put into a position of wanting in freedom. This
is the aporia that Derrida is concerned with. According to Niall Lucy in A Derrida Dictionary; Aporia
is a Greek term denoting a logical contradiction. The word choice here is interesting because
contradiction implies an issue that is resolvable in a certain light as well as being a foundation on
which to build. As Derrida puts

American girl named Tiana lived poor in the 1920 s. The plot of this story is that this poor girl wanted
to finish the dream of her father, which is to create a restaurant.
c. Like most of Disney s movies, the damsel in distress ends up marrying the prince charming,
resolving all her social and economic problems. This kind of message to a little girl can create a wrong
image of what her life should be like. Therefore, it portrays a negative influence in a young girl life.
d. THESIS STATEMENT: Disney films create a fantasy world that young audience capture as an
example of how life should be. This creates an issue, because it teaches kids that money is the solution
for all problems by selling your dignity, they also teach that hard work is not enough in order to
accomplish your dreams, and they also label the difference in social status.
II. BODY ONE
a. Disney films create a fantasy world, which misleads kids imagination of how the real world should
be lived.
b. In most of the Disney films, money is a factor to save the lives of the main characters. This was not
the exception in the film The Princess and the Frog.
1. As part of her solution, Tiana has to kiss the frog, which is a prince and in return he would give her
money to by the old mill. She ends up giving him the kiss for the money he promised.
2. Even though this scene seems harmless, this is an example of how Disney films are portraying a
negative influence on how a girl sells herself to get the money she needs.
3. The message here is that it is acceptable to sell your dignity for money in return for what you need.
4. For younger kids this can be an example of how to acquire things in life.
III. BODY TWO
a. In this film, they also teach that hard work is not enough in order to accomplish your dreams.
1. Throughout the film, Tiana is depicted to be a hard worker. She is also portrayed following the
values her parents taught her.

Ernest Hemingway and Masculinity Essay
Ernest Hemingway and Masculinity
Ernest Hemingway, viewed as an American hero of his time, wrote novels that enrich the minds of his
readers, creating a lasting image that goes far beyond the actual content of the story. But while reading
Hemingway, I learned that his style was far from complex. Through pre meditated sentence structure,
he creates a rhythm that parallels the action in the story. He wants the sentences themselves to be easy
to understand, so the reader can use more energy focusing on the symbolism Hemingway s stories
create. He skillfully places symbols and metaphors throughout his novels. In his own writing,
Hemingway doesn t explain in detail his metaphors. Rather, he forces the reader to discover the ...

He compares sexually ability as a part of the masculine man. By having his main character Jake
Barnes impotent, Hemingway depicts a loss of masculinity that is common throughout his novels. He
also contrasts men and women who hold onto their masculinity and men who lose it. Through his
metaphors Hemingway uses empathy to draw the reader closer to the characters as they feel for their
suffering.
War, usually thought of as a masculine fight for glory, is reversed in Hemingway s writings. Instead of
men showing their masculinity, he portrays a war that takes away men s masculinity through injuries
that deprive them the rest of their lives.
Truly, A Farewell to Arms and For Whom the Bell Tolls force the reader to question the need for
sacrificing a man s life for a war. Is war worth dying over? The reader should note Robert Jordan s
suicide mission in trying to make this decision for himself. Jordan understood that there was little
hope of survival, and he cringed at the thought of not getting to live out his life with his new love
Maria. But in the end, he takes the heroes path and blows up the bridge, which costs him his life.
Not only did Jordan s efforts go in vain, since the bridge was far behind enemy lines and didn t do
much damage to the movement of the Fascists, but Jordan s allies, the Spanish Republic, never made
the offensive. The tragic death of Jordan leaves the reader wondering,

Magic Realism In The Handsomest Drowned Man In The World
At its most basic level, magical realism is the mixture of the supernatural with realistic characteristics.
This genre is known for having specific traits to help classify if a work of art is in the genre. One work
of art that exemplifies almost all of these traits is The Handsomest Drowned Man in the World by
Gabriel García Márquez. After a washed up corpse is found in a small village, the people of the city
fall in love with the man s tallness and his handsomeness. They quickly decide to worship him and
they want to better themselves because of him. On the other hand, one example of a misconception of
magical realism is Big Fish, directed by Tim Burton. The central character, Edward Bloom, recounts
his life with exaggerated stories to his son Will, who thinks the embellished tales are unnecessary and
insulting. As his father is sick, Will travels to be with him. During his visit, Will gets a more in depth
view of his father s real life and the truth of what his life actually was. This film has some of the traits,
but not enough to classify it as part of the magical realism genre.
One crucial trait needed for magical realism is the idea of irreducible magic. This means magic that
cannot be normalized or reduced throughout the work of art. Big Fish very clearly breaks this
characteristic. In Edward s stories, he magnifies the sense of magic. When Ed passes away, Will
discovers that all the magic Ed encountered throughout his life was relatively normal compared to

The Effect Of Heat Treatment On Manufacturing Capabilities...
Growth of any country depends upon its manufacturing capabilities. Today is world of
competitiveness. Every industry must need to increase their performance and reliability as well as
quality.Besides this one need to consider cost. Because at last cost will decide whether the thing is of
superior quality in that range. So every industry must reduce the cost of process.
Every product need to perform different functions as well as under different condition. So product
must possess different properties as per its usage.Different properties of the product will depend on the
material used. But most of function doesn t requires only one property. So product should have bunch
of properties.
Heat treatment is a group of industrial and metalworking processes used to alter the physical
properties of a material. Heat treatment is the process of treating material by heating the material up to
certain temperature and then cooling it at various cooling rates. It is noteworthy that the term heat
treatment applies only to processes where the heating and cooling are done for the specific purpose of
altering properties intentionally.
Other type of heating and cooling often occur incidentally during other manufacturing processes such
as hot forming or welding which can t be considered under heat treatment processes.By using heat
treatment process various property for same material can be achieved. This will be the combination of
properties required.

Is Willy Loman A Tragic Hero
The play Death of a Salesman, written by Arthur Miller, is a novel about an ideal American family.
Although the title ideal American family seems ordinary, failed salesman Willy Loman faces conflicts
within his family and out of the household. Aristotle defines the word tragedy as to face misfortune or
disaster, and tragedy in this family expands throughout the novel. Willy Loman encountered an end
that led him to pay the ultimate price: death. Author Arthur Miller focuses the novel on an average
American person because his intent was to reveal what really happens behind closed doors, Willy s
character not exactly portraying the classic role itself. In a New York Times article, Miller explains
how the common man makes the best tragic hero. A common man makes the best tragic hero because
he claims most of them are seen as flawless. The common man is passive if tragedy hits, and wouldn t
take a chance to retaliate if it were to occur. From his own judgements to his own tragic downfall,
Willy Loman fits the characteristics of a tragic hero. As a modern day tragic hero instead of a classic
tragic hero, Willy Loman fits the characteristics of a tragic hero because of his flaws or error of
judgement, the misfortune brought about from error or judgement, and his recognition that the reversal
came from his own actions. Willy Loman is a modern tragic hero because he had a flaw or error of
judgement. He fits this trait because Willy Loman couldn t accept his actual reality, and instead
focused more on his ideal type of life. Willy neglected the reality he lives in and strives to have the life
he dreams of, such as his mistake of not going to Africa. When his deceased brother Ben went to
Africa instead, he claims that he s discovered riches that Willy longs for in his fantasy world. In
addition to that, Loman had an error of judgement when he cheated on his wife. I realized what a
ridiculous lie my whole life has been. After Biff had found out about the woman and his father, he s
decided that his father had focused more on his illusions more than the actual life he lives in. Because
of his illusions he worked for, his sons were impacted to do the same. Loman fits the title of a tragic
hero from the

Yellow Wallpaper Critical Analysis
The feminist theory is an ougrowth of the general movement to empower women world wide.
Likewise to the feminist theory the short story Yellow Wallpaper by Charlotte Perems Gillmarn
exposes the mental state of women in the late 1800s, and perharps even of the author s own struggle
with society run by men. Additionally, the three main areas of study and points of criticism in the
feminist theory, likewise to the short story exist through, the diffrences between men and women,
power dynamics between men and women and the female experience. The short story Yellow

The narrator experiences physical, emotional and mental imprisonment through the hands of her
spouse who refuses to change the surroundings Jane lives in. that after the wall paper was changed it
would be the heavy bedstead, and then the barred windows, and then that gate at the head of the stairs,
and so on . The environment the protagonist is given is similar to a prison; the heavy bedstead, barred
windows and the gate at the end of the stairs can be corresponding to the cast of things we would see
at the prison. Although Jane feels restrained by her husband, the most important display of the
feminist theory is the psychological Imprisonment. At night in any kind of light, in twilight,
candlelight, lamplight, and worst of all by moonlight, it becomes bars! . All of her thoughts are
entirely devoted to the paper; she is mesmerized by it and unable to pull her mind from the strange
allure of its pattern. In a whole, this all connects to denote the feelings and experiences of the

How Photography Changed My Life
From my first picture on my aunt s Canon, I knew I loved photography. After the initial click, I couldn
t get enough. That s when I decided I wanted a camera of my own. It has impacted my life in many
ways, such as: learning responsibility, meeting new people, and realizing my future occupation.
Because I wanted a camera, I had to be responsible and raise money for it myself. My mom helped me
find a job she thought I would like, but I was thirteen at the time and wasn t looking forward to it. I
got an after school job helping an artist who teaches painting classes and sells calligraphy. I got paid
fifteen dollars each night, and it ended up not feeling like work because she was fun to be around.
After a few months, I had about three hundred

The relationship between Life Expectancy at birth and GDP per capita (PPP) Candidate: Teacher: Candidate number: Date of submission: Word Count: 2907 Section 1: Introduction In a given country, Life Expectancy at birth is the expected number of years of life from birth. Gross domestic product per capita is defined as the market value of all final goods and services produced within a country in one year, divided by the size of the population of that country. The main objective of the present project is to establish the existence of a statistical relation between Life Expectancy (y) at birth and GDP per capita (x). First, we will present in Section 2 the data, from an official governmental source, containing Life ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Basic statistics for the GDP per capita: Mean: x=i=148xi48 = 12900 In order to compute the median, we need to order the GDP values: 600, 700, 1100, 1500, 1600, 1900, 2100, 2200, 2500, 2900, 2900, 3200, 3300, 3900, 4000, 4100, 4300, 4800, 5000, 6000, 6300, 6700, 7600, 7600, 9100, 9900, 10600, 10700, 11200, 12300, 13900, 15700, 16700, 19800, 20000, 26700, 27400, 27600, 27600, 27700, 28200, 28800, 29000, 29100, 29800, 30000, 31100, 37800. The median is obtained as the middle value of the two central values (the 25th and the 26th): Median= 7600+91002 = 8350 In order to compute the modal class, we need to split the data in classes. If we consider classes of USD 1000 (0 999, 1000 1999, ...) we have the following table of frequencies: Class | Frequency | 0 999 | 2 | 1000 1999 | 4 | 2000 2999 | 5 | 3000 3999 | 3 | 4000 4999 | 4 | 5000 5999 | 1 | 6000 6999 | 3 | 7000 7999 | 2 | 8000 8999 | 0 | 9000 10000 | 2 | 10000 10999 | 2 | 11000 11999 | 1 | 12000 12999 | 1 | 13000 13999 | 1 | 14000 14999 | 0 | 15000 15999 | 1 | 16000 16999 | 1 | 17000 17999

I think the main reason for this is because we are told we can t. Teenagers, and humans in general do a lot of things just to rebel. It gives a sense of thrill in our stressful lives and environments. So instead of punishing it, we should legalize it and educate minors on how to drink responsibly. Sunny Baudelaire Characters When reading the very long series, A Series of Unfortunate Events, I have found that there are multiple characters that peak my interests when reading and are very rememberable. But I have found that my favorite character is one of the three main characters, Sunny Baudelaire. I feel like she is a very fun character, and that one of her new hobbies is something I can relate to. Sunny Baudelaire originally starts off, as a helpless baby who no one can understand except her siblings and a knack for biting things with her sharp teeth. College girls camped at the courthouse all night, with stores of graham crackers and No Cal. Also, identification disks were issued to the first forty three spectators in line. (p.20) The trial is described not as a practice of law but as a sporting event. Just as there are hot dog vendors at a sports game, there are stores of graham crackers and No Cal at the trial. Also, Didions use of the word spectators suggests that the people inside the courtroom are looking upon the trial like a sports game. Didion later refers to the courtroom seats as the spectators section. (p.25) A sporting event is not taken seriously. Therefore, Didions comparison of the trial to a sports game undermines the seriousness of law and order in the San Bernardino society. • 16. Intellectual Property And The Copyright Act Of 1976 Intellectual property represents ideas created by minds of humans that require certain rights for their use. Intellectual property gives companies a competitive advantage and attracts the attention of other business partners and investors (Lee, 2016). With such importance, it is necessary for the law to protect these ideas from being used by unauthorized individuals. To shield from this, trade secrets, patents, and copyrights are used to protect the ownership of intellectual property (Legal Information Institute). A copyright gives the originator of literary, artistic, or music works the right to perform, publish, record, or print them. This can include sound recordings, paintings, photographs, films, melodies, television, radio broadcasts, cable programs, performances, and even codes to computer programs (Legal Information Institute). Since copyrights cover several different types of materials, the duration varies depending on what work is being protected. According to the Copyright Act of 1976, musical, artistic, and literary works created after January 1, 1978 have copyrights that last 70 years after the author has passed away, 95 years after publication, or 120 years from creation, whichever expires first (United States Copyright Office, 2011). The next 10 feet are $ 25 more and the next 10 feet $ 25 more and so on. 10 feet = $ 100; 20 feet = $ 125; 30 feet = $ 150; 40 feet = $ 175; ...

Non believers believe we do not endure suffering simply because in their reality, God is personified as a genie; Christians can simply pray for what they desire in life; examples including money, power, wealth, and the Lord will grant those desires immediately. However, Christians know suffering is inevitable. From a theological standpoint, suffering is defined as: the experience of physical pain and mental distress. ( suffering ) If individuals were to evaluate suffering from a Christian perspective, we must realize categories that come with suffering. First, suffering is the consequence of the flawed nature of creation. Second, suffering is the direct consequence of one s violation of God s laws. Third, suffering can be good for our faith, and finally suffering is embedded in truth, Christianity, and within the church. Historical Development Before looking at the categories which formulate suffering, I would like to look at Christian authors who agreed with my categories of suffering and who also sparked my inspiration for evaluating suffering from a believer s viewpoint. The first author is John Bunyan. His book, The Pilgrim s Progress tells the story of Christian, a pilgrim who journeys from the City of Destruction to the Celestial City. The City of Destruction emulates the world; Celestial City heaven. Christian was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I m not really sure if I am interpreting this right but to me, the waltz shows me the difference between what the soldier is wearing and who he is. 9. The picture is missing from the book. I think this serves as a way to point out that we don t think of the people who die as real people unless we are connected to them. I also think that when there are pictures of the deceased people don t tend to look at them because they feel guilty. 11. Rhetorical Analysis Deborah Tannen In this excerpt, Deborah Tannen speaks anecdotally about her observations of behavioral and communicative differences between boys and girls in peer groups that are sex separate. I m going to assume she s talking about all boys and all girls schools. Deborah Tannen describes girls as typically inclined to choose one female friend with whom they ll build a strong and exclusive bond that revolves around secretive conversation. She goes on to generalize boys as being much more willing to socialize with a broader peer group in the form of playful activities, and to use those activities to exhibit their skill, verbally express their knowledge, and to establish their rank in a pecking order. However, for me to say that all boys dominated girls during classroom discussions in Phoenix, AZ during the last stretch of the 20th century or that all girls are reluctant to speak publicly outside of the comfort of their peer group in Honolulu, HI during the beginning of the 21st century would be disingenuous and could probably be attributed to an expectancy bias. Could these statements hold true in a different time, culture or geography? Absolutely. My guess is that none of the cited researchers whose work this article was predicated upon could have possibly conceived of a world where, new students that are assigned a questionnaire on Alcohol and Other Drugs , have six categories to choose from under gender . That being said, there are some gestures that are so integral to a language that ignoring them is impossible. Such gestures can widely vary across languages and the world, and making a mistake with them can be disastrous. To alleviate some of this confusion, incorporating gestures into dictionaries of a specific language or country may be helpful, as well as indexing and recording such gestures. Gestures, due to their ubiquitous use and arbitrary meanings, should be indexed conclusively into dictionaries of their corresponding languages and possibly even resources of their own. Grossman is a world renown expert in the field of human aggression and the psychology of combat (Grossman et. al, 2007). In his book, On Killing: The Psychological Cost of Learning to Kill in War and Society, he talks about non firing rate. Non firing rate is the percentage of soldiers who freeze up during combat, and do not fire their weapon. There has been documentation of non firing rate dating back to 1863, during the American Civil War. There is even documentation to prove that both World War I and II soldiers displayed the same consistence in failing to fire their weapons; but why is this important? The weapons had the proficiency to kill, but the soldier holding the weapon did not. All the documentation of soldier s inability to fire their weapon indicates that there is a psychological power greater than military training (Gorssman et. al., 1995). This force acts as a blockade, preventing man from standing before man, and engaging in the conscious act of taking the life of a person. Even when faced with the decision to kill the man standing before him, or be killed, evidence shows that man will be killed before he kills (Grossman et. al., 1995). This means that in places of very or relatively low precipitation, a source of fresh water is still available. This method of obtaining drinking water is expensive, therefore only certain nations can afford it. Sustainability is defined as conserving an ecological balance by avoiding depletion of natural resources (Oxford English Dictionary, 2014 ). This comes in three forms. These are economic, environmental and social sustainability. In terms of whether desalination is sustainable, sustainability must be present in all three factors. This figure is staggering and by constructing and developing desalination plants, this figure can be reduced as more fresh drinking water will become available to people. However, the process of desalination is not easy to do on a large scale in underdeveloped areas due to the cost of the energy input, as well as taking into account the environmental issues alongside it. Desalination is a difficult process to do inland, partly for accessing the water, which would have to be obtained from aquifers (Elsaid et al., 2012) and partly for having to dispose of the brine. Therefore, it is a process which is mainly found in coastal areas. 1.1 The desalination process Desalination works through reverse osmosis, this process removes 99% of the salt and cleans the water (Government of South Australia, 2014). Water undergoing reverse osmosis goes through a number of stages. It starts with pre treatment where the water is treated to a certain level to get rid of any solids and to bring the pH to the required level, as well as adding a threshold inhibitor which controls scaling from chemicals such as calcium sulphate (Organisation of American States, 2014 ). After this pre treatment, the water goes through pressurisation, where the pre treated water is filtered through membranes, reducing the salinity of the water. Following this, a process of separation is used which inhibits dissolved salts, while allowing the rest ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The scope of his work is so large that some argue it unreasonable to accept his word as legitimate in0 certain fields. In Of Hospitality, Derrida describes and brings to the forefront one of the primary issues of cosmopolitan ethics; what is the appropriate approach to extending and receiving hospitality and what are the implications of such action? Through an intensive understanding of this work, Derrida eventually reaches the conclusion that the balance between being absolutely hospitable and conditionally hospitable is completely necessary. Is it more just and more loving to question or not to question? (Of Hospitality, 29). Each has the ability to corrupt the other but both are needed in order for hospitality and, in general, socially responsible behavior. Why this is important Hospitality cannot be practically applied without the host establishing some set of limits, but at the exact time these limits are created, the visitor/guest is put into a position of wanting in freedom. This is the aporia that Derrida is concerned with. According to Niall Lucy in A Derrida Dictionary; Aporia is a Greek term denoting a logical contradiction. This kind of message to a little girl can create a wrong image of what her life should be like. Therefore, it portrays a negative influence in a young girl life. d. THESIS STATEMENT: Disney films create a fantasy world that young audience capture as an example of how life should be. • 42. Ernest Hemingway and Masculinity Essay Ernest Hemingway and Masculinity Ernest Hemingway, viewed as an American hero of his time, wrote novels that enrich the minds of his readers, creating a lasting image that goes far beyond the actual content of the story. But while reading Hemingway, I learned that his style was far from complex. Through pre meditated sentence structure, he creates a rhythm that parallels the action in the story. He wants the sentences themselves to be easy to understand, so the reader can use more energy focusing on the symbolism Hemingway s stories create. He skillfully places symbols and metaphors throughout his novels. In his own writing, Hemingway doesn t explain in detail his metaphors. Rather, he forces the reader to discover the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He compares sexually ability as a part of the masculine man. By having his main character Jake Barnes impotent, Hemingway depicts a loss of masculinity that is common throughout his novels. He also contrasts men and women who hold onto their masculinity and men who lose it. Through his metaphors Hemingway uses empathy to draw the reader closer to the characters as they feel for their suffering. War, usually thought of as a masculine fight for glory, is reversed in Hemingway s writings. Instead of men showing their masculinity, he portrays a war that takes away men s masculinity through injuries that deprive them the rest of their lives. Truly, A Farewell to Arms and For Whom the Bell Tolls force the reader to question the need for sacrificing a man s life for a war. Is war worth dying over? The reader should note Robert Jordan s suicide mission in trying to make this decision for himself. Jordan understood that there was little hope of survival, and he cringed at the thought of not getting to live out his life with his new love Maria. But in the end, he takes the heroes path and blows up the bridge, which costs him his life. Not only did Jordan s efforts go in vain, since the bridge was far behind enemy lines and didn t do much damage to the movement of the Fascists, but Jordan s allies, the Spanish Republic, never made the offensive. • 43. Magic Realism In The Handsomest Drowned Man In The World At its most basic level, magical realism is the mixture of the supernatural with realistic characteristics. This genre is known for having specific traits to help classify if a work of art is in the genre. One work of art that exemplifies almost all of these traits is The Handsomest Drowned Man in the World by Gabriel García Márquez. After a washed up corpse is found in a small village, the people of the city fall in love with the man s tallness and his handsomeness. They quickly decide to worship him and they want to better themselves because of him. On the other hand, one example of a misconception of magical realism is Big Fish, directed by Tim Burton. The central character, Edward Bloom, recounts his life with exaggerated stories to his son Will, who thinks the embellished tales are unnecessary and insulting. As his father is sick, Will travels to be with him. During his visit, Will gets a more in depth view of his father s real life and the truth of what his life actually was. This film has some of the traits, but not enough to classify it as part of the magical realism genre. One crucial trait needed for magical realism is the idea of irreducible magic. This means magic that cannot be normalized or reduced throughout the work of art. Big Fish very clearly breaks this characteristic. In Edward s stories, he magnifies the sense of magic. When Ed passes away, Will discovers that all the magic Ed encountered throughout his life was relatively normal compared to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 45. Is Willy Loman A Tragic Hero The play Death of a Salesman, written by Arthur Miller, is a novel about an ideal American family. Although the title ideal American family seems ordinary, failed salesman Willy Loman faces conflicts within his family and out of the household. Aristotle defines the word tragedy as to face misfortune or disaster, and tragedy in this family expands throughout the novel. Willy Loman encountered an end that led him to pay the ultimate price: death. Author Arthur Miller focuses the novel on an average American person because his intent was to reveal what really happens behind closed doors, Willy s character not exactly portraying the classic role itself. In a New York Times article, Miller explains how the common man makes the best tragic hero. A common man makes the best tragic hero because he claims most of them are seen as flawless. The common man is passive if tragedy hits, and wouldn t take a chance to retaliate if it were to occur. From his own judgements to his own tragic downfall, Willy Loman fits the characteristics of a tragic hero. As a modern day tragic hero instead of a classic tragic hero, Willy Loman fits the characteristics of a tragic hero because of his flaws or error of judgement, the misfortune brought about from error or judgement, and his recognition that the reversal came from his own actions. Willy Loman is a modern tragic hero because he had a flaw or error of judgement. He fits this trait because Willy Loman couldn t accept his actual reality, and instead focused more on his ideal type of life. Willy neglected the reality he lives in and strives to have the life he dreams of, such as his mistake of not going to Africa. When his deceased brother Ben went to Africa instead, he claims that he s discovered riches that Willy longs for in his fantasy world. In addition to that, Loman had an error of judgement when he cheated on his wife. I realized what a ridiculous lie my whole life has been. After Biff had found out about the woman and his father, he s decided that his father had focused more on his illusions more than the actual life he lives in. Because of his illusions he worked for, his sons were impacted to do the same. Loman fits the title of a tragic hero from the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
