Augmented reality (AR) enhances real-world environments by overlaying virtual objects, audio, and other digital enhancements. It aims to enhance perception and performance without users knowing it augments reality. Unlike virtual reality which immerses users in simulated environments, AR allows users to remain present in the real world while virtual objects are superimposed. AR works by combining real and virtual scenes using displays, tracking, sensors, and processors. Current applications include movies, entertainment, and cars, though GPS and image recognition limitations exist. As the technology advances, concerns arise around losing touch with reality.

A combination of a real scene viewed by a
user and a virtual scene generated by a
computer that augments the scene with
additional information. It adds virtual
computer-generated objects, audio and
other sense enhancements to a real-world
environment in real time.

• AR still has some challenges to overcome. Eg,
GPS is only accurate to within 30 feet and
doesn’t work as well indoors.
• Improved image recognition technology is a
must for more fluid AR experience

• The most obvious ethical issue is people
loosing a grip on reality.
• When the technology becomes much more
fluid and mainstream people could lose their
entire sense of reality.
