3. A gerund is a noun formed from a verb. All
gerunds end -ing.

4. 1. Gerund as a SUBJECT
• Subject- the topic of a sentence
EXAMPLE:
• Acting is fun.
• Hunting tigers is dangerous
• Smoking causes lung cancer

5. 2. Gerund as a DIRECT OBJECT
• Direct Object- receives the action of the verb
EXAMPLE:
• I love pretending that I’m okay.
• I enjoy cooking with my mom.

• Object of preposition- is usually (but not always) the
noun or pronoun immediately to the right of
the preposition.
