In this language arts reflection, the student discusses several books and series they enjoyed reading, both independently and as a class. They particularly liked the read aloud book "Under the Egg" and completing a research assignment on the endangered Mediterranean monk seal. The student also describes their class norms of attentive listening, mutual respect, and no put downs, as well as enjoying the daily independent work time and having an iPad to complete classwork. Their favorite class job was documentarian, taking photos to document class activities. Overall, the student has found language arts to be a fun subject.

2. In language Arts class we read a lot of books.
Sometimes we read books together as a class. We
call that read aloud. I like read aloud, because it
helps me understand the book better when we
discuss it together as a class.One of my favorite
read aloud books that we read is called Under the
egg. The book is about a girl that loses her
grandfather and then winds up with a painting that
might sell for a lot of the money. The girls name is
Theodora, and live with a poor family.

3. My favorite book that I read independently is called The
Blood Of Olympus. It is the last book in the Heroes of
Olympus Series, relevant to the Percy Jackson Series.
The Heroes of Olympus is my favorite series. The
Percy Jackson series is my second favorite series.
These series are both about a boy named Percy which
saves the world. But, in the Heroes of Olympus series
its Percy and a few other people that save the world
with him. Both series are good but I like the Heroes of
Olympus series a little bit better.

4. My favorite writing assignment was making an
essay about an endangered animal. Almost
everyone in the class chose a different animal.
But some people shared one animal. For
example, Mason and I were both assigned to
the Mediterranean monk seal. We were going to
write an essay about the animal. But there were
a few steps to the process.

5. The first thing we did was do some research
about the animal. I was only able to fill out about
2/3 of the sheet but it was enough for me to
complete my essay. After the we did some
research and had a few fascinating facts about
the animal, we started working on our essay. It
was a little hard for me at one point when I
wrote about the animal's diet. I had only one fact
but still managed to get 6 sentences out of it.

6. In our class we have some rules. We like to call them norms. We
have 3 norms in our class, and I think each one is very important.
Our first norm is Attentive Listening. Attentive listening means you
are listening with your eyes ears and heart. This means you are
looking at whoever is speaking, listening to what he/she is saying,
and that you aren't thinking about what you were doing or going to
do.
The second norm is Mutual Respect. This means you are
respecting everyone and everything.
Our last norm is No put downs/Give appreciations. You are not
allowed to put someone down. Instead, encourage them.
I think the norms help our class know what you must or shouldn't
do.

7. One of my favorite things that we do in Language Arts is Daily 3.
In Daily 3 you get some free time to work independently or
sometimes with a friend. In Daily 3 you work on your reading,
writing or Word Work. One of my favorite things in Daily3 is
reading. In reading we read our books independently. For
writing, I like to work on a book I am writing with my friend
Danny. The title of the book Danny and I are writing is The
Mustache Maker. We both enjoy writing so much that sometimes
we facetime and work on our story at home. During word work
we do some apps to help our spelling, Grammar, vocabulary,
etc. Myy favorite app for word work is Words With Friends.

8. One very cool thing about 4th grade is that
you have your own iPad. This helps us
access the internet quicker, and then I can
get my work done quickly, too. In 3rd grade,
when we needed something to write blog
posts, or do other things you need a device
for, we would get laptops. I think it's better
to have an iPad next to you because
sometimes other classes are using the
laptops and its quicker.

9. In fourth grade we have class jobs. There are three jobs
and I have only done one so far. The three jobs are the
Blogger, Documentarian and Tweeter. If you are the
blogger what you need to do is write a post, add a
picture or two, and then past it to your blog. For
documentarian you take pictures of what we are doing in
class, and then send them to the blogger. The pictures
the bloggers use are the pictures the documentarians
sent them. I think Tweeter and documentarian are two
similar jobs for Tweeter you take pictures, too. Though
this time you aren't sending them to anyone. Instead you
tweet them on Twitter. I really enjoyed being the
documentarian. It is my favorite job.

10. I used to think that language arts
wouldn't be much fun. At first I
thought it would be all about words.
Now that I have been to a Language
Arts class, I think Language Arts is
very fun and enjoy it very much.
