Fast Fashion
FAST FASHION
Over the past few years there has been an apparent change in the fashion retail industry which is
taking control of it's speed. 'Fast Fashion' is the new 21st century phenomenon currently dominating
high–street retail.
Stores like H&M and New Look have become the masters of the quick turnaround and are closing
in on trends at such a speed that they can have fresh looks on their shelves for the customer, months
before the original designer can get their garments shipped out of the factory.
They are racing their competitors to deliver catwalk trends at cost–effective prices and are managing
to win the hearts and purses of both wealthy fashionistas and penny–pinching hopefuls! So much so
that buying your latest handbag from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Clothing is now sold so cheap that it can be thrown away after a few wears making room for new
purchases. Not so long ago it was seen as lower–class to browse the clothing section at your local
Asda, but now the masses are happy to mix their jeans and jumpers with their bread and beans!
Supermarket fashion ranges have really taken off thanks to the fast fashion movement, with Tesco
being named as the ninth–most–used clothing retailer in the UK beating River Island and BHS!
Asda credit themselves for having created a 'fashion democracy' where no–one is excluded by price.
The secret to their success is trying to create pieces that look like they have flown off the catwalk
and are being sold at rock–bottom prices. Their clever marketing pitching themselves at the 'high–
end of fashion' means that the items will possibly appear in a glossy magazine as a must–have
budget buy!
People find it less stressful and less expensive to shop for clothing whilst conducting their weekly
food shop. If you think about the furore that older women want to wear younger looking clothing
they may be more likely to buy from Sainsbury's as they will feel less alienated.
Many people though, are against fast fashion, such as the successful fashion designers who must
feel as if their ideas are being stolen. They are getting increasingly resentful at just how quickly
ideas and designs get passed around the world. Someone will source the design image

Arcadia by Tom Stoppard Shows The Dangers and Chaos and...
While Arcadia by Tom Stoppard is a play that intertwines a lot of humor with mathematical and
scientific reasoning, it also conveys a message regarding the dangers and chaos of absolute
knowledge. Much of what occurs in Acadia relates to the article The Dangers of Certainty: A Lesson
From Auschwitz written Simon Critchley. In today's modern society, Stoppard's play is about why
scientists proceed in researching concepts that yield nothing; it is about why people associate
themselves with endearment in face of the disruption that it can cause. The characters in the play
struggle, and often fail in their attempts for certainty, falling into irritation with others. Humans, by
nature, are constantly seeking definite answers; a mentality that allows one to address an issue, find
a solution, and continue on. Humans have a hard time accepting that, sometimes, there are things for
which one will never have a definite answer. As the author, Simon Critchley, states, "Insisting on
certainty, by contrast, leads ineluctably to arrogance and dogma based on ignorance." This can be
seen in many instances throughout the play, where many of the characters grow very irritated;
Bernard, for instance, tries to prove his theory that Byron killed Ezra Chater. In his attempt, he
grows ineluctably arrogant, especially when he finds that he is indeed wrong, and fails at his quest
for certainty: "Fucked by dahlia! Do you think? Is it open and shut? Am i fucked? What does it
really amount to? When

Analyzing The Bandwagon Effect In Ayn Rand's Anthem
Have you ever felt the need to complete a task because the people around you already completed
that task? That feeling is caused by a phenomenon known as the bandwagon effect. Concepts such
as the bandwagon effect are explored in Ayn Rand's Anthem. In the novella, there is a collectivist
society that believes more in the importance of the group instead of the individual. Personal
preferences are suppressed, and people who question the collectivist ideals are persecuted by
society. The people cannot decide what they want to become because the Council picks what
occupation they receive based on the needs of the State as a whole. This also affects individual
people such as Equality 7–2521. The collectivist ideals that are displayed in Ayn Rand's ... Show

The people in the general public in Anthem have a similar mentality and tend to do similar actions.
This is likely caused by the bandwagon effect which is when people start to do what other people
are doing without considering why they do it. The bandwagon effect can be bad as it is "harmful
when it comes to ideals and ethics" (McMahon). It has caused many adverse effects on the public.
For example, there is very little rebellion against the collectivist society besides a few individuals.
This happens as a result of the bandwagon effect. Most people decide to agree with the collectivist
ideals because the other people around them agree with them. As more people decide to accept the
ideals, there will be fewer people who will decide to stand up for their rights. The collectivist ideals
makes the people in the general public give up their rights due to the bandwagon

Group Project Reflection
Throughout my years in graduate school, I found myself with many opportunities to work on group
projects. I always found these projects to be a rewarding experience because it was not only an
opportunity to contribute my experience and ideas to the project but also listen to experience and
ideas of my teammates. However, working on a group project also meant making sure to examine
the work of my teammates and vice–versa. So for each group assignment, I always made sure to
follow certain guidelines I laid out for myself in order to get the assignment completed.
1. Ask questions – especially if I needed a teammate to clarify what they needed from me or if I not
sure about what they wrote.
2. Provide thoughtful suggestions on the work of my

The Real Inspector Hound. Essay
The Real Inspector Hound Contrasting settings, ideals and people dominate The Real Inspector
Hound. Almost every character has an opposite, and is otherwise totally unique. Cynthia is opposite
to Felicity, Simon is the contrast of Magnus, and so on. Tom Stoppard has included these contrasts
for a variety of reasons and effects that combine to create the disturbing effect of the play incredibly
effectively. But what individual effects do his characters create by opposing each other so
accurately. At the start of the play, Stoppard deliberately confuses the audience with the opposing
characters of Birdboot and Moon, at first; the audience is left to indulge in the view of moon and the
... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Birdboot is a proletarian moron, just the sort of person they like to imagine when they think of a
critic. Birdboot asks where Higgs is; moon instantly replies with a paragraph of life, the universe
and everything, now the audience know that the two people are critics, and they also know Moon is
the other type of critic, the sort who does waffle about the meaning of life and reality in his reviews.
Ironically, despite these characters being totally obvious as opposites, as the audience have worked
out from just a few lines of speech, Moon defines his opposite as Higgs, leaving Birdboot out of the
question. The audiences now how some time to scoff at Stoppard's flimsy attempt to create realistic
critics. This effect is just what Stoppard wanted from the opposing critics in the opening scene. The
audiences is confused as to what is the play, and what is not, they are waiting for what they think is
the play to start, they are become increasingly agitated and are passing the time scoffing about how
truly terrible Stoppard's characters are, if Stoppard is lucky, they may also be beginning to look
forward to a pantomime. These effects allow Stoppard to introduce the comical character of Mrs
Drudge with far greater effect than would have been possible had Stoppard simply introduced her
from the start. Stoppard even manages to increase this

Topshop Organizational Structure Essay
Introduction
Topshop was founded in 1964 in Sheffield within the ladies fashion store chain Peter Robinson Ltd.
The first official stand alone store was opened in 1974, followed by Topman being introduced in
1978 exclusively for male customers. Topshop has over 300 stores in the UK and over 100 stores
internationally and has a flagship store in both London andn New York. It is part of the Arcadia
Group which also owns Dorothy Perkins, Burton and Miss Selfridge.
The Topshop store which will be focused on for this report will be Glasgow Buchanan Street Store
and I will evaluate the organisation and management of the store.

Measurable – should measure whether you are meeting the objectives or not.
Achievable – are the objectives you set achievable?
Realistic – can you realistically achieve the objectives with the resources you have?
Time bound – when do you want to achieve the set objectives?
These objectives are specific as they explain exactly what the company expects from their
employees, how they should treat their employees and customers and how the retailer should take
into account environmental factors when dealing with products/services etc. They are not so much
measurable as they do not imply whether they have achieved these objectives or not. They are
achievable because they are straight forward. They are realistic and using the correct resources they
can be met. They are not so much time bound as they do not state exactly when they wish to achieve
these objectives by but you can tell they will be ongoing objectives that they constantly wish to
achieve in the future.
Formal Structure of the Organisation
Topshop has very few layers of management in the High Street Store in Buchanan Street; this is
known as a flat structure:

Brand Manager For Topshop Is The Most Difficult Market
TOPSHOP is mid level high street and it is possibly the most difficult market to sell products in.
This is because it requires a lot of specific branding to strongly create an extremely clear consumer
market. The products are neither cheap, which removes the appeal to those wanting throw away or
value products, or the luxury market, which would see the items as low quality. However, if placed
correctly, it creates some of the most loyal consumers there are today. Products are designed for the
core customer in terms of materials, embellishments, shape, colour and style, and the business is
very focused on every aspect of their customer in the way that it runs. This can include how quickly
new items get added to the store and where the stores are located. Their target audience are offered a
number of different styles and trends every season and the products can range from £20 – £150, with
some occasional cheaper and expensive products added at specific times. Jane Shepherdson, brand
manager for TOPSHOP says: 'Officially our target market is 15 to 30 year–old women, but
internally we target everyone who loves fashion, regardless of age or income. ' TOPSHOP mastered
the art of bringing high fashion trends to the high street and are now considered fashion
establishment and TOPSHOP are the only high street fashion store to appear in London Fashion
Week and are one of many to take on the 'see now buy now' pop up shop after the runway show.

Examples Of Symmetry In The Knight's Tale
, their symmetry, their happy balance; in a word it is all that introduces order, all that gives unity,
that permits us to see clearly and to comprehend at once both the ensemble and the details"
(Poincaré). The need for symmetry to understand the whole is found not only in math, but also in
literature. In The Knight's Tale, symmetry provides balance to stories by highlighting critical aspects
for understanding. The balance of conflict and resolution help complete the story and create a sense
of harmony for the reader. In The Knight's Tale, Chaucer uses symmetry through balance to make
the story truly complete. Chaucer uses many examples of symmetry to help explain the story and

Chaucer uses symmetry to creatively conclude the driving conflict of the poem, Arcite and
Palamon's conflicting mutual love for Emily. The conflict between the two lovers begins during
their exile in Theseus' prison after being defeated in battle. Palamon is upset by his cousin's
admiration of Emily when he expressed his love interest first; he exclaims, "Yet you would
treacherously go about / To love my lady, whom I love and serve / And ever shall, till death cut my
heart's nerve" (34). He expresses his deep love for Emily and anger that his own cousin does not
support him, but loves the same lady. The conflict over their love of Emily forms a deep rift between
the two men for the length of the poem. The rift is mended at Arcite's request to Emily after he is
fatally injured in celebration of his victory in the tournament: "Who serves you and will serve you
all his life. / And should you ever choose to be a wife, / Forget not Palamon, that great–hearted man"
(78). Chaucer uses symmetry to bring about an end to the violent tournament devised by Theseus, so
that he could determine who would marry Emily. Theseus orders Palamon and Arcite to each gather
an army so that they could fight to the death to win Emily: "To Emily. To this I give my name, / My
faith and honour, as I am a knight. / Whichever of you proves of greater might" (52–53). The

Tom Stoppard's Play : The Themes Of Technological Change...
Arcadia is almost impossible to describe, or even generalize. The way it's written is so intricate and
precise– I felt like almost transcends the stage itself. That's why it's one of my favorite plays. Tom
Stoppard always volunteers an odd style of writing, but I found myself enjoying Arcadia more than
some of his other work. The format has it so the visible action of the play takes place in the same
room in an English country house, a couple of centuries apart. By keeping all of the action in the
same place, Stoppard (and the audience) is able to underscore the similarities between the two plots,
and the two eras in which they take place. While in the present day, Valentine waxes rhapsodic about
what the information revolution has done ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Its status as a play (as opposed to, say a film) also makes the out–of–order historical narrative less
jarring. Consider: if you were watching a movie set in the distant past and someone wandered
through with a laptop (or wearing a pair of Converse sneakers ... I'm looking at you, Sofia Coppola's
Marie Antoinette), it might jolt us out of the story. But putting a similar juxtaposition on the stage
seems less weird, because we know the performers aren't trying to make the action look real. We're
aware, all the time, that a play is fiction. What's more, while reading Arcadia, we get imagine the
play unconstrained by budget or reality, so if you want mentally to cast Will Ferrell as Bernard
Nightingale and Robert Pattinson as Septimus, go right ahead. Since this is a play and each character
speaks in his or her own voice, it's difficult to identify a consistent tone for the work. This is usually
one of the qualms I have with Stoppard's work. One thing does seem to be common about the way
the characters talk: they're nearly all deeply interested in the world and their relation to it. Stoppard
always presents his cast of characters as a quirkily (Elise/Solomon!) diverse bunch, but at the same
time, he lets their enthusiasms shine through in every word, such

out of the helicopter, one hand holding tightly to the rail above me – the other attached to the grip of
my carbine. I could see the heavy trees sway beneath us, the other helicopter behind us following
suit – and then the small town came into view. Women and soldiers, children and medics, Brazilians
and Arkadians – all parting way to make room for the helicopter – an ancient hunk of metal hidden
in a pre–Arkadian hangar, a journal that was stowed away under my seat gave me some details
about it. It was ancient – a hundred or more years old, it carried men – just like us – to go fight in a
war that people were conflicted about. The journal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

was paranoid – delusions plagued him. He claimed that Brandon – the friend I've known for so long

Dramatic Techniques In Arcadia
Arcadia is a play that Izzy and I felt very attached to so when the moment came to choose a scene,
we instantly knew which play we wanted to perform. Some plays are better understood when they
are read, but Arcadia is on the other end of that spectrum. Arcadia was the perfect play for us
perform because we had enough actors (three of us) and Arcadia's Act II, Scene 2 felt perfect for this
final.
Izzy, Cole, and I have a funny dynamic as a group of friends so that translated perfectly into our
scene because the lens with which we interpreted the scene was comedic––something we thought
Stoppard intended. Cole will play Jellaby, the sarcastic butler who is simply just trying to get
through his day, and he is perfect for the role. Izzy will play Lady Croom, the head of the house who
always seems to be courted by men at her house, and Izzy brings the perfect aggressiveness to
convey overt power. I will play Septimus, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Our staging is not too complex besides two pivotal points. The first big staging moment is when
Septimus and Lady Croom are sitting down when Jellaby brings in her infusion. I must pour tea for
her and hand it to her while we continue a serious conversation and then immediately rip up the
letter from Lord Byron. The next pivotal moment is the most important in the whole scene.
Septimus justifies his 'meeting' with Mrs. Chater by telling Lady Croom that it was only because, "in
his madness," he believed "the Chater with her skirts over her head would give [him] the momentary
illusion of the happiness to which [he] dared not put a face" (61). During this interaction, I jump up
and corner Izzy on one side of the stage whilst in my passionate speech and then when I am finished
I retreat into myself. Izzy then executes Lady Croom's art of seduction by dragging her finger along
my shoulder while she passes me to the door. This staging is somewhat complicated but it

This means that Arcadia Group is a very stable company and its leaders should not worry about
taxation policy in the future.
Political factors also cover such areas as competition policy, environmental legislation, employment
law, stability of the political system, trade restriction and tariffs etc. According to
www.hoovers.com, the main competitors for Arcadia Group are Next PLC, Marcs & Spencer
group PLC and Debenhams. These companies are also very popular and successful not only in the
UK, but also in other European countries. As Worthington and Britton claim (2006), UK
government competition policy has largely been concerned with regulating market behaviour and in
particular with controlling potential abuses of market power by firms acting singly or in concert in
specific markets. In the future Arcadia Group will not become a monopoly, because of such strong
competitors and a very strict UK government competition policy.
Concerning environmental problems Arcadia Group has a responsibility to lower the impact on the
environment. The company makes every effort to reduce consumption of valuable resources such as
energy, water and fuel. They are constantly developing ways to increase the efficiency and reduce
fuel consumption in their transport operations. And company is working hard to ensure they lower

Working in a group was a great way to get to know my classmates. Despite our differences, we

rather do the assignment on my own. Group work has its good and bad effects. Group work allows a
big assignment to be completed at a faster pace than working alone. I did not know much about
zombies, but some of my other group members did. Each individual has different viewpoints;
therefore, it helped us accomplish our ten–paragraph essay in a small amount of time. My group as a
whole was assigned the role of public health. Haley was the leader, and she assigned each group
member a specific task that we were responsible for. Each of us had to write two paragraphs about a
specific situation that was given to us. We worked together and wrote the introduction and
conclusion. I did not like the fact that my grade relied on other people. On the other hand, I had
some control over that by telling them how I felt about what was going on. None of my group
members was a total slacker. Although, I did not know my group members personally, so I was not
sure whether or not they would take responsibility and complete what was assigned to them. They

Literary Techniques Of Thomas Stoppard 's Arcadia
Literary Techniques in Thomas Stoppard's Arcadia
Arcadia by Thomas Stoppard was written in 1993 depicting the correlation between order and
disorder, the present and the past. The concepts tackled in these areas were looked at closely in
comparison to the themes of love and death. Stoppard's work of art earned him a position among
other renowned contemporary playwrights after it was awarded as one of the outstanding plays that
were encompassed the subject of science widely. This was an award issued to it by the institution of
Britain in 2006. Arcadia represents the activities of the modern society in comparison to that which
was in existence before civilization came into place. The high evolutionary society comprises
practices and ideas that can be juxtaposed to strike a balance in the time. Therefore, it can be noted
that Stoppard's aim in this case was to juxtapose the ideas of the contemporary lifestyle and the
activities of the past in order to strike a balance for the highly evolutionary society.
The play Arcadia takes place during the years 1806, 1812, and the present day society. Sidley Park is
represented both in the ancient society and in the contemporary one as a country house in
Derbyshire, where the Coverly family resides. The play has various characters fashioned in the form
of a family as the center of all activity. People such as Bernard Nightingale and Septimus are the
people responsible for the dissemination of knowledge in the family. The plot comprises of

Justification for the subjugation of females to males during the sixteenth century came from a
variety of sources. Ranging from the view that God gave Adam authority over Eve as penalty for the

rationalization of the restricted freedom of women came from every direction.1 Puritan reformers
also believed that Eve was God's gift, given to Adam 'to consummate and make up his

The History Of Algebra, How It Started, The Most Study...
This paper will show the history of algebra, how it started, and how it grew to be what it is today. It
will show that it started it developments from the basic arithmetic operations that first were used to
solve simple addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division and how it went incorporating more
operations that permitted it to solve problems that involve abstract concepts. It will show that the
recorded history begins mostly with the Egyptian papyrus, and how it went passing from one
civilization. Moreover; it will show how each civilization contributed with something that at the end
helped it to become what it is today, the most study mathematical subject around the world.
1. Introductions
However; the recorded history begins with the Rhind Papyrus from Egypt and clay tablets from
Babylon, which describe the basic mathematical operations that include an unknown variable, then
it passed to India where written records in Sanskrit show that the Indian were already describing
verbally what seems to be the description of unknown variables. Next the recorded history passed to
the Greeks, where Diophantus published the b books that describe the syncopated algebra which are
considered to be the basis of all algebra used and studied by European mathematician.
Moreover; it was in Europe where the recorded history of the algebra really was taken to the next
level. The lead was taken by Fibonacci with is book liber abaci, who added the application of

Review Of ' Biosemantics ' Millikan 's Goal For ``...
Jessica Scruggs Phil 307 Response Paper #3 11/11/16 Millikan's "Biosemantics" Millikan's goal for
"Biosementaics" is to explain what connects a representation with the thing it represents. To reach
this goal, Millikan has to explain that there are special conditions that need to be met to form a
connection between a representation and its object. These "content–fixing" conditions cannot be
statistically normal conditions, because normal is a relative term. An example Millikan gives is that
of a red face. Is it a sign of sunburn? Exertion? Overheating? Embarrassment? Or, often times in my
case, alcohol flush? There are numerous views that focus on the idea that what produces a
representation is what makes it what it is. Millikan brings up views by Fodor, Stampe, Matthen, and
Dretske. Millikan dismisses Fodor's idea that content is fixed by a causal connection, but the
representation's role in a functional system is what, in the end, determines how the content is fixed.
She dismisses it because having fixed content means to "act like a representation." Stampe, Matthen,
and Dretske say that the representations have a detecting or indicating role, but Millikan also
dismisses this as unenlightening, because the terms "detect" and "indicate" basically mean to
represent. Millikan refutes all of these notions so that she can explain that the way a representation
is used is what fixes the content, not how it was made. The object of representation stands for
something because there is

Essay on Classicism Versus Romanticism in Tom Stoppard's...
Tom Stoppard is one of the finest playwrights of the modern age. Some of his well–known plays are
Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead, The Coast of Utopia, Every Good Boy Deserves Favour,
Professional Foul, The Real Thingand many more. The finest of all his plays is Arcadia. The literary
meaning of the term "Arcadia" inspired Tom Stoppard to write his play Arcadia. It was titled "Et in
Arcadia ego". "Arcadia" actually means a vision of pastoralism and harmony within nature. The
Greek province of the same name has helped in the derivation of the term. The term's existence has
also been figured out in Renaissance Mythology. "Arcadia" refers as something unattainable as
commonly as Utopia. The term "Arcadia" is symbolic of pastoral ... Show more content on

The play focuses on the romance of the mind and the body. Remarked by early reviewers to be
similar to Tin Man in The Wizard of Oz, Tom Stoppard had excelled in this field and gives a glimpse
of his theatrical genius with Arcadia.
Arcadia covers the two different ages– the early nineteenth century and the present modern world,
matched, juxtaposed together bringing in a rare combination of the different facets of Classicism and
Romanticism. The two timelines talk about sex, literature, love, epistemology, landscaping, the
Second Law of Thermodynamics and the romance. Stoppard's intellect looms large over the plot of
the play and is efficiently presented in the form of this play. It is a two–act play containing seven
scenes. The characters belonging to the early nineteenth century are Septimus, Thomasina, Mr. and
Mrs. Chater, Lady Croom, Captain Brice, Mr. Richard Noakes. Hannah Jarvis, Valentine, Bernard,
Gus and Chloe are the characters belonging to the present modern world. Thomasina Coverly, the
thirteen–year–old daughter of Lady Croom, is more interested to know "what carnal embrace is than
anything else." With her Stoppard had presented a truly heartbreaking character. She is driven not
only by intellectual knowledge but by sexual desires also. Although Lady Croom tells Thomasina
that she must wed before she is over educated. With her Stoppard puts forth the classicism in an
elegant way.

Soccer Team Reflection Paper
In the beginning of class, we watched a film that reminded me of high school varsity soccer because
some of my coaches were both theory Y and theory X. My coaches would act in a very direct and
negative form which made us not want to continue being in the team but in the end, the coaches
taught us many leadership skills and also discipline which was key in a sports team. I personally felt
like I was both theories because I was the team captain so the ways I was communicate with my
players made me feel like I am a very mean person but I wanted my team mates to know the
expectations in order to be in a very competitive soccer team. I felt like I had to be both theories in
order to get my message across in the best form as possible. I had to be harsh in order to show that
my coaches and I were not just playing around, we were dedicating our time into make the best
soccer team in the USD 500 district. Towards the end of the soccer season I was seeing positive
results from each and every one of the players. It made me very happy that I got my message across
even though I wasn't naturally a theory X but I had to put myself in the players position. I felt like if
I was only a theory Y, half of the team wouldn't take me serious. The coaches in the film were a
great example of how both theories could have a good result when it comes to forming a team.
Having diversity among the team makes a leader think about every angle of how to approach the
whole team because having diversity means that individuals have different backgrounds. It can be
difficult to address the whole team on what's expected and the standards that they should be aiming
for in order to continue being in the soccer team. As a leader of the soccer team, it was very
challenging at some situations because all my teammates were depending on me in order to have
positive results.
The team builder activity that we did in class was very interesting to do because every person in the
group had restrictions and limitations on what they could contribute in the group which made me a
bit challenging especially because time was against our favor. This activity made me realize that
every person can make a difference based on what capabilities they have and this

The Importance Of Multiplicative Thinking
Multiplicative thinking, fractions and decimals are important aspects of mathematics required for a
deep conceptual understanding. The following portfolio will discuss the key ideas of each and the
strategies to enable positive teaching. It will highlight certain difficulties and misconceptions that
children face and discuss resources and activities to help alleviate these. It will also acknowledge the
connections between the areas of mathematics and discuss the need for succinct teaching instead of
an isolated approach. Multiplicative Thinking Multiplicative thinking is imperative to a child's
understanding of important mathematical concepts and is seen as the 'big idea' in number that links
multiple key ideas and strategies (Vergnaud, as cited in Siemon, 2011). Commonly, children have a
procedural based view of multiplicative thinking which can hinder progress, as opposed to a more
conceptual view which is a far better learning framework (Hurst & Hurrell, 2016). If teachers are to
maximise a child's learning, they must acknowledge this and help children maintain a conceptual
understanding of multiplicative thinking and emphasise this much more so than procedural rules.
Several key ideas and strategies underpin the success of multiplicative thinking and a greater
conceptual understanding. Hurst and Hurrell (2014) explain that children need to be acutely aware
of the ten times multiplicative relationship between places and how this effects many aspects of
mathematics.

What is seen in the data is that there is not a steady decline in the reaction time when you compare
each column to the previous or next respectively. The time increases when comparing Group A to
Group B, but not Group B to Group C. The same also applies to Group C to Group D and then a
decrease from Group D to Group E. Figure 1 shows a clearer picture of the RT when compared to all
of the reaction time. Even though the time decreases in some areas, there is clear increase or RT
when looking from the youngest to olderst. When looking at the graph, there is statistical
significance in some of the areas and not in others. All data was calculated at a 95% confidence
level. The difference from Group A to Group B is only 0.2538 seconds, but when the data is
compared to each other, the probability (P–Value) is 0.000287. This is a significant difference
between the two. From Group B to Group C, there is a 0.01 second decrease in time, which has a P–
Value of 0.4698. This is not a statistical difference and leaves room for this time to not be a normal
outcome. Group C and Group D has a 0.2289 seconds increase, but when calculated with the raw
data, there is no significant difference with a P–Value of 0.0833. Group D to Group E is a 0.1252

Theme of Utopianism in The Tempest
One traditional theme of The Tempest is Utopianism. Whether it be of physical significance, as
Walter Cohen suggests in his essay "Shakespeare and Calderon in an Age of Transition," or of
literary significance, as Judith Boss suggests in her essay "The Golden Age, Cockaigne, and Utopia
in the The Faerie Queene and The Tempest," it is an important piece of literature in contribution to
Utopianism. Judith Boss does an excellent job in breaking down Utopianism within The Tempest
into three different categories, the Golden Age, Cockaigne, and Utopia. All three are implemented,
or can be derived from The Tempest. In Walter Cohen's essay, he suggests that Shakespeare wrote

Judith Boss states "There was always the hope–or belief– that such a land lay hidden in some
unexplored corner of the world; and both Spencer and Shakespeare exploited this idea in their
works." Nature is readily able to provide everything we need to survive. The only thing that
separates man from a Utopian paradise is his own reasoning. In Shakespeare's The Tempest,
Gonzalo says, "All things in common nature should produce/ Without sweat or endeavour. Treason,
felony,/ Sword, pike, knife, gun, or need of any engine/ Would I not have, but nature should bring
forth/ Of it own kind all foison, all abundance/ To feed my innocent people." Gonzalo believes that
he would like to have a society classic of what a Golden Age might be. This hope is rather short–
lived by the mocking words of Antonio and Sebastian. They create an adversity to Gonzalo's
possibility of even having a Golden Age utopia, just by the people that they are.
Cockaigne
It can be regarded or believed that, in fact the world is able to produce for man and essentially
provide a place for paradise, but in question is the fact of whether or not man is able to live in such a
place and maintain it's harmony. Man has long since been given free will, if not politically or
socially, innately by God. Ultimately man has choice that enables him to form and mold his future
and existence. "The antithetical tradition of

39). Part of the role of an efficient leader is to recognize that conflicts and unexpected situations will
be presented in any type of organization. Leaders will have to make critical and tough decisions that
might bring tribulation. A leader should be able to take control of the situation and provide guidance,
always taking in consideration the safety and well being of those who follow. It is important that
leaders make choices that "protects the organization and others from undue distraction to the
mission" (Dees, 2013, p. 44).
Integrity
"Integrity is simply telling the truth or staying true to a set of values" (Dees, 2013, p80). Integrity is
essential in the effectiveness of a leader. "Integrity is often cited as a critical component of
leadership"(Palanski, Simons, & Treviño, 2011). An effective leader understands the need to be an
example of honesty and truthfulness." While leaders may wholeheartedly agree with the concept for
a subordinate to fully embrace effective followership, he or she must trust in the leader/follower
relationship"(Satterlee, 2013, p. 7). Followers will place their trust in a leader that act upon values,
moral principles and beliefs. Leaders should understand that every decision would have an effect on
those around themselves. "The more choices you make based on integrity, the more this highly
prized value will affect your relationships with family and friends, and finally, the fundamental
acceptance of yourself"(Dees, 2013, p.

Essay on Arcadia
Arcadia refers to a Utopian ideal: the idea of harmony with nature and the entire world. The term is
derived from a Greek province, which bears the same name. The Province's mountainous landscape
and history of containing a sparse population of farmers later caused the word "Arcadia" to develop
into a poetic byword for an idyllic vision of unspoiled natural beauty. The inhabitants are regarded
as living without pride and avarice that corrupted other regions of the world. The inhabitants of
Arcadia are regarded as living close to nature, uncorrupted by civilization, and being virtuous. In
other words they live in a place that many people would consider a paradise.

Out of all the characters in the play Thomasina is perhaps the most beautiful. She is innocent, driven
by academic zeal, and a genius of epic proportions. What is truly the most beautiful trait about her is
that unlike Mrs. Chater and Lady Croom, it is "an insult in a gazebo," (6) that she desires but true
love. The final waltz that Septimus and Thomasina share could not be any more romantic as
"Septimus holding Thomasina, kisses her on the mouth. The waltz lesson pauses. She looks at him.
He kisses her again, in earnest. She puts her arms around him." (95) The affection the two feel for
each other is a huge part of any person's definition of paradise: two people truly in love with each
other uncorrupted by the society around them. Yet even in this seemingly paradisiacal situation,
Thomasina still tragically dies.
The title also alludes to a very important theme which is apparent throughout the play. Mathematics

Stoppards presentation of Thomasina in Arcadia
Tom Stoppard uses Thomasina as his main character in the play. Her story is being told from the
past and the whole plot of the play is leading up to her death. The play shows the journey of
Thomasina growing up, to the eve of her seventeenth birthday where she would became a woman
and have been married off to someone that her mother thought was worthy. Stoppard uses the
present scenes well to introduce additional information that Hannah, Valentine and Bernard have
found out about Thomasina's life which has not yet happened in story in the past. The way that
Stoppard links the formula that Thomansina was studying was very effective as it showed the true

This highlights two of the three major themes of the play, science and sex, the third being literature.
Thomasina is at an impressionable age, she admires Septimus and feels they have a special bond, as
they have superior intelligence over the other members of the household.
Thomasina's relationship with her brother Augustus is not very strong partly because he is away at
boarding school for most of the year. Their relationship is highlighted in Scene seven when
Augustus joins his sisters drawing lesson. Both Thomasina and Septimus gang up on him and make
him aware of their superior intelligence. An example of this is when Septimus says to Augustus "if
you are so determined my lord" This is a private joke between Septimus and Thomasina which
infuriates Augustus and he feels left out. He then says "Your peace is nothing to me sir, you do not
rule over me", a reference to the fact that he will inherit the estate on day and that Septimus is just
the tutor. In this scene, he is made to feel inferior to his sister, Thomasina, which he resents, as she is
his female sister. Women during this period were not expected to be as highly educated as men.
Another example of their relationship is that Augustus feels humiliated to be told the meaning of

Instruction Methods For Teaching Decisions
I honestly thought that this lesson was going to be taught to teach to the class. I spent countless
hours reading the information in the curriculum handbook and even collaborating with other
teachers just to understand the material properly. I was thoroughly surprised at how well the lesson
was received and it greatly boosted my self confidence in my planning and teaching decisions. This
lesson was all about symmetry and dividing "crazy cakes" evenly between two people by looking
for smaller shapes within the larger shape. The shapes of the cakes literally were crazy because they
were not shaped like your normal cake. There were many different angles and sides, because of this
each student had to really sit and visualize what other shapes were inside the cake. I feel that my
instruction methods worked great for this lesson. I followed the plan given to me by the curriculum
book by talking about the activity first then letting the students work together in groups to divide the
cakes as best as possible. I thought it would be beneficial to let students come up to the board and
practice with dividing the cakes before letting them work with their groups. I think that by allowing
a few of them to show their initial thought process allowed others to see how they could divide their
cakes as well. I then gave direct instructions on how we were to transition to our tables and begin
working on their crazy cakes. The classroom has been struggling lately with transitions, so I was

The Eclogues Of Virgil Are Singularly Pastoral
The Eclogues of Virgil are undeniably pastoral. They are flush with idyllic imagery of countryside
scenery, animals and abundant greenery, shepherds tending to their flock––the simplicity of a life
most intimately intertwined with the natural world. In English Pastoral Poetry, Sir William Empson
describes pastoral writing as a method of "putting the complex into the simple" (22). Through
idealized and vivid lines, Virgil attests to the greatness of the everyday desserts of life, the "song of
a woodman pruning the trees", the "cool of the shade", and the "vine on the leafy elm" (7).
Examining further, however, one can observe political, personal, and religious allegories that lay
beyond the surface of each Eclogue––particularly in Eclogue ... Show more content on

Meliboeus comes upon Tityrus, another shepherd, who is contrastingly content and without worry.
Tityrus explains to Meliboeus that after travelling to Rome and meeting a young man, who has
widely been presumed to be the Roman emperor Augustus, he has obtained definitive ownership of
his land and need not worry about it being repurposed into housing for discharged soldiers.
Meanwhile, Tityrus, the shepherd whom many have speculated to be representative of Virgil, basks
in his freedom and love for Augustus, "a god [who] gave [him] this peace" (3). Prior to his travels to
Rome, Tityrus suffered in a relationship with the greedy Galatea, in which freedom was a concept
unknown to him. His transformation from enslavement to liberation is found through a fusion of
urban (Rome) and rural (Arcadia) instances, thus confirming the pastoral element of Virgil to be
only complete in this Eclogue when observing similarities and differences between the intricate and
the simplistic. Within this employment of the pastoral mode, of its indulgent language and both its
conventional and unconventional themes, a light is shone on the poet, Virgil himself, that illuminates
the facets of his political and personal thought subtly implemented in the First Eclogue. While he

A Critical Reflection Of Walmart
Practice makes perfect. We came into this project knowing we can improve from our first
presentation. We knew what areas we had to focus on this time around. We became more
comfortable around each other, allowing us to be more expressive without fearing judgment from
each other, at least in my point of view. At first, we were a little upset, since we did not want to do a
presentation on Walmart. Walmart had a negative connotation to them based on their business
practices towards their employees, which pushes me away from their company. Instead, we were
hoping to base our project on a sustainable company we, as college students, are closer to, such as
New Belgium Brewing. It's funny, but I believe that somewhat make us more close and unified to
one another, being able to rally around a common source of frustration. But in the end, we were
good.
In this project we had to complete for our sustainable company, Walmart, we knew we were being
asked to create a creative presentation, to use our imagination to transform the classroom into
another world. Creativity is the generation, application, combination, and extension of new ideas. In
the context of groups and teams, creativity is inventing or creating a new idea, strategy, principle, or
approach to solving a problem (Beebe and Masterson 302). A technique we used to enhance our
team creativity was group brainstorming. Brainstorming is a creative problem–solving method,

Leading In The Here And Now: Video Analysis
During the "Part III: Conflict and Summation" in the video Group Work: Leading in the Here and

amount of conflict. The main driving force for the conflict was based on self–disclosure that group
member Jean offered to the group, surrounding her feelings of anger and distrust with the other
members. Her comments sparked the group to investigate and explore their own feelings and
emotions not only towards Jean, but the group itself. Corey, Corey, and Corey (2010) noted that, "by
taking risks in disclosing here–and–now observations and reactions, members are actively creating
trust and making it possible to engage in deeper self–exploration," (p. 253). While Jean's comments
upset some individuals in the group, it initiated open and honest responses from the rest of the
group. Even though Jean was the primary driver of the conflict during this session, I was particularly

During the course of the video, as with all of the video's, I thought that Dr. Carroll was extremely
hands–off. While Art's observation was real for him, and the conflict itself eventually helped him
resolve his own issues within the group (authority), I did not see Dr. Carroll using Jean as a means
to engage the group in discussion. She was rather inactive during all of the videos, and allowed the

extremely non–confrontational, yet Art challenged her directly, addressing her authority

Fast Fashion

  • 1. Fast Fashion FAST FASHION Over the past few years there has been an apparent change in the fashion retail industry which is taking control of it's speed. 'Fast Fashion' is the new 21st century phenomenon currently dominating high–street retail. Stores like H&M and New Look have become the masters of the quick turnaround and are closing in on trends at such a speed that they can have fresh looks on their shelves for the customer, months before the original designer can get their garments shipped out of the factory. They are racing their competitors to deliver catwalk trends at cost–effective prices and are managing to win the hearts and purses of both wealthy fashionistas and penny–pinching hopefuls! So much so that buying your latest handbag from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Clothing is now sold so cheap that it can be thrown away after a few wears making room for new purchases. Not so long ago it was seen as lower–class to browse the clothing section at your local Asda, but now the masses are happy to mix their jeans and jumpers with their bread and beans! Supermarket fashion ranges have really taken off thanks to the fast fashion movement, with Tesco being named as the ninth–most–used clothing retailer in the UK beating River Island and BHS! Asda credit themselves for having created a 'fashion democracy' where no–one is excluded by price. The secret to their success is trying to create pieces that look like they have flown off the catwalk and are being sold at rock–bottom prices. Their clever marketing pitching themselves at the 'high– end of fashion' means that the items will possibly appear in a glossy magazine as a must–have budget buy! People find it less stressful and less expensive to shop for clothing whilst conducting their weekly food shop. If you think about the furore that older women want to wear younger looking clothing they may be more likely to buy from Sainsbury's as they will feel less alienated. Many people though, are against fast fashion, such as the successful fashion designers who must feel as if their ideas are being stolen. They are getting increasingly resentful at just how quickly ideas and designs get passed around the world. Someone will source the design image ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. Arcadia by Tom Stoppard Shows The Dangers and Chaos and... While Arcadia by Tom Stoppard is a play that intertwines a lot of humor with mathematical and scientific reasoning, it also conveys a message regarding the dangers and chaos of absolute knowledge. Much of what occurs in Acadia relates to the article The Dangers of Certainty: A Lesson From Auschwitz written Simon Critchley. In today's modern society, Stoppard's play is about why scientists proceed in researching concepts that yield nothing; it is about why people associate themselves with endearment in face of the disruption that it can cause. The characters in the play struggle, and often fail in their attempts for certainty, falling into irritation with others. Humans, by nature, are constantly seeking definite answers; a mentality that allows one to address an issue, find a solution, and continue on. Humans have a hard time accepting that, sometimes, there are things for which one will never have a definite answer. As the author, Simon Critchley, states, "Insisting on certainty, by contrast, leads ineluctably to arrogance and dogma based on ignorance." This can be seen in many instances throughout the play, where many of the characters grow very irritated; Bernard, for instance, tries to prove his theory that Byron killed Ezra Chater. In his attempt, he grows ineluctably arrogant, especially when he finds that he is indeed wrong, and fails at his quest for certainty: "Fucked by dahlia! Do you think? Is it open and shut? Am i fucked? What does it really amount to? When ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Analyzing The Bandwagon Effect In Ayn Rand's Anthem Have you ever felt the need to complete a task because the people around you already completed that task? That feeling is caused by a phenomenon known as the bandwagon effect. Concepts such as the bandwagon effect are explored in Ayn Rand's Anthem. In the novella, there is a collectivist society that believes more in the importance of the group instead of the individual. Personal preferences are suppressed, and people who question the collectivist ideals are persecuted by society. The people cannot decide what they want to become because the Council picks what occupation they receive based on the needs of the State as a whole. This also affects individual people such as Equality 7–2521. The collectivist ideals that are displayed in Ayn Rand's ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The people in the general public in Anthem have a similar mentality and tend to do similar actions. This is likely caused by the bandwagon effect which is when people start to do what other people are doing without considering why they do it. The bandwagon effect can be bad as it is "harmful when it comes to ideals and ethics" (McMahon). It has caused many adverse effects on the public. For example, there is very little rebellion against the collectivist society besides a few individuals. This happens as a result of the bandwagon effect. Most people decide to agree with the collectivist ideals because the other people around them agree with them. As more people decide to accept the ideals, there will be fewer people who will decide to stand up for their rights. The collectivist ideals makes the people in the general public give up their rights due to the bandwagon ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I always found these projects to be a rewarding experience because it was not only an opportunity to contribute my experience and ideas to the project but also listen to experience and ideas of my teammates. However, working on a group project also meant making sure to examine the work of my teammates and vice–versa. So for each group assignment, I always made sure to follow certain guidelines I laid out for myself in order to get the assignment completed. 1. Ask questions – especially if I needed a teammate to clarify what they needed from me or if I not sure about what they wrote. 2. Provide thoughtful suggestions on the work of my ... • 6. The Real Inspector Hound. Essay The Real Inspector Hound Contrasting settings, ideals and people dominate The Real Inspector Hound. Almost every character has an opposite, and is otherwise totally unique. Cynthia is opposite to Felicity, Simon is the contrast of Magnus, and so on. Tom Stoppard has included these contrasts for a variety of reasons and effects that combine to create the disturbing effect of the play incredibly effectively. But what individual effects do his characters create by opposing each other so accurately. At the start of the play, Stoppard deliberately confuses the audience with the opposing characters of Birdboot and Moon, at first; the audience is left to indulge in the view of moon and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Birdboot is a proletarian moron, just the sort of person they like to imagine when they think of a critic. Birdboot asks where Higgs is; moon instantly replies with a paragraph of life, the universe and everything, now the audience know that the two people are critics, and they also know Moon is the other type of critic, the sort who does waffle about the meaning of life and reality in his reviews. Ironically, despite these characters being totally obvious as opposites, as the audience have worked out from just a few lines of speech, Moon defines his opposite as Higgs, leaving Birdboot out of the question. The audiences now how some time to scoff at Stoppard's flimsy attempt to create realistic critics. This effect is just what Stoppard wanted from the opposing critics in the opening scene. The audiences is confused as to what is the play, and what is not, they are waiting for what they think is the play to start, they are become increasingly agitated and are passing the time scoffing about how truly terrible Stoppard's characters are, if Stoppard is lucky, they may also be beginning to look forward to a pantomime. These effects allow Stoppard to introduce the comical character of Mrs Drudge with far greater effect than would have been possible had Stoppard simply introduced her from the start. Stoppard even manages to increase this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Topshop has over 300 stores in the UK and over 100 stores internationally and has a flagship store in both London andn New York. It is part of the Arcadia Group which also owns Dorothy Perkins, Burton and Miss Selfridge. These objectives are specific as they explain exactly what the company expects from their employees, how they should treat their employees and customers and how the retailer should take into account environmental factors when dealing with products/services etc. They are not so much measurable as they do not imply whether they have achieved these objectives or not. They are achievable because they are straight forward. They are realistic and using the correct resources they can be met. • 8. Brand Manager For Topshop Is The Most Difficult Market TOPSHOP is mid level high street and it is possibly the most difficult market to sell products in. This is because it requires a lot of specific branding to strongly create an extremely clear consumer market. The products are neither cheap, which removes the appeal to those wanting throw away or value products, or the luxury market, which would see the items as low quality. However, if placed correctly, it creates some of the most loyal consumers there are today. Products are designed for the core customer in terms of materials, embellishments, shape, colour and style, and the business is very focused on every aspect of their customer in the way that it runs. This can include how quickly new items get added to the store and where the stores are located. Their target audience are offered a number of different styles and trends every season and the products can range from £20 – £150, with some occasional cheaper and expensive products added at specific times. Jane Shepherdson, brand manager for TOPSHOP says: 'Officially our target market is 15 to 30 year–old women, but internally we target everyone who loves fashion, regardless of age or income. ' TOPSHOP mastered the art of bringing high fashion trends to the high street and are now considered fashion establishment and TOPSHOP are the only high street fashion store to appear in London Fashion Week and are one of many to take on the 'see now buy now' pop up shop after the runway show. • 9. Examples Of Symmetry In The Knight's Tale , their symmetry, their happy balance; in a word it is all that introduces order, all that gives unity, that permits us to see clearly and to comprehend at once both the ensemble and the details" (Poincaré). The need for symmetry to understand the whole is found not only in math, but also in literature. In The Knight's Tale, symmetry provides balance to stories by highlighting critical aspects for understanding. The balance of conflict and resolution help complete the story and create a sense of harmony for the reader. In The Knight's Tale, Chaucer uses symmetry through balance to make the story truly complete. Chaucer uses many examples of symmetry to help explain the story and emphasize important events. The first instance of symmetry in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Chaucer uses symmetry to creatively conclude the driving conflict of the poem, Arcite and Palamon's conflicting mutual love for Emily. The conflict between the two lovers begins during their exile in Theseus' prison after being defeated in battle. Palamon is upset by his cousin's admiration of Emily when he expressed his love interest first; he exclaims, "Yet you would treacherously go about / To love my lady, whom I love and serve / And ever shall, till death cut my heart's nerve" (34). He expresses his deep love for Emily and anger that his own cousin does not support him, but loves the same lady. The conflict over their love of Emily forms a deep rift between the two men for the length of the poem. The rift is mended at Arcite's request to Emily after he is fatally injured in celebration of his victory in the tournament: "Who serves you and will serve you all his life. / And should you ever choose to be a wife, / Forget not Palamon, that great–hearted man" (78). Chaucer uses symmetry to bring about an end to the violent tournament devised by Theseus, so that he could determine who would marry Emily. Theseus orders Palamon and Arcite to each gather an army so that they could fight to the death to win Emily: "To Emily. To this I give my name, / My faith and honour, as I am a knight. / Whichever of you proves of greater might" (52–53). The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Tom Stoppard's Play : The Themes Of Technological Change... Arcadia is almost impossible to describe, or even generalize. The way it's written is so intricate and precise– I felt like almost transcends the stage itself. That's why it's one of my favorite plays. Tom Stoppard always volunteers an odd style of writing, but I found myself enjoying Arcadia more than some of his other work. The format has it so the visible action of the play takes place in the same room in an English country house, a couple of centuries apart. By keeping all of the action in the same place, Stoppard (and the audience) is able to underscore the similarities between the two plots, and the two eras in which they take place. While in the present day, Valentine waxes rhapsodic about what the information revolution has done ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Its status as a play (as opposed to, say a film) also makes the out–of–order historical narrative less jarring. Consider: if you were watching a movie set in the distant past and someone wandered through with a laptop (or wearing a pair of Converse sneakers ... I'm looking at you, Sofia Coppola's Marie Antoinette), it might jolt us out of the story. But putting a similar juxtaposition on the stage seems less weird, because we know the performers aren't trying to make the action look real. We're aware, all the time, that a play is fiction. What's more, while reading Arcadia, we get imagine the play unconstrained by budget or reality, so if you want mentally to cast Will Ferrell as Bernard Nightingale and Robert Pattinson as Septimus, go right ahead. Since this is a play and each character speaks in his or her own voice, it's difficult to identify a consistent tone for the work. This is usually one of the qualms I have with Stoppard's work. One thing does seem to be common about the way the characters talk: they're nearly all deeply interested in the world and their relation to it. Stoppard always presents his cast of characters as a quirkily (Elise/Solomon!) diverse bunch, but at the same time, he lets their enthusiasms shine through in every word, such ... The First Inhumane Human A Guardsman's Retrospect on the '55 Brazilian Conflict I was hanging out of the helicopter, one hand holding tightly to the rail above me – the other attached to the grip of my carbine. I could see the heavy trees sway beneath us, the other helicopter behind us following suit – and then the small town came into view. Women and soldiers, children and medics, Brazilians and Arkadians – all parting way to make room for the helicopter – an ancient hunk of metal hidden in a pre–Arkadian hangar, a journal that was stowed away under my seat gave me some details about it. It was ancient – a hundred or more years old, it carried men – just like us – to go fight in a war that people were conflicted about. The journal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He'd never give me a straight answer. He was paranoid – delusions plagued him. He claimed that Brandon – the friend I've known for so long – kept having the barrel of his rifle 'drift towards me' as he'd put it, every time he said 'they.' Who was they? Were they bad people? I couldn't care less. I had a job to do. When the helicopter landed, I was the first out. I was greeted by a small, scrawny man holding a clipboard, one of the paper– pushers as the Sergeant in charge of leading us called them – they didn't fight, they only made sure supplies got where they needed to be – and that nothing was missing. The moment we got off, shots began to ring out. I had no idea what to do, I didn't know from where the bullets were coming. The tree line to the north was empty, the citizens were running for cover – my brother was already dead – and he hadn't even exited the helicopter. I realized who was shooting now. • 13. Dramatic Techniques In Arcadia Arcadia is a play that Izzy and I felt very attached to so when the moment came to choose a scene, we instantly knew which play we wanted to perform. Some plays are better understood when they are read, but Arcadia is on the other end of that spectrum. Arcadia was the perfect play for us perform because we had enough actors (three of us) and Arcadia's Act II, Scene 2 felt perfect for this final. Izzy, Cole, and I have a funny dynamic as a group of friends so that translated perfectly into our scene because the lens with which we interpreted the scene was comedic––something we thought Stoppard intended. Cole will play Jellaby, the sarcastic butler who is simply just trying to get through his day, and he is perfect for the role. Izzy will play Lady Croom, the head of the house who always seems to be courted by men at her house, and Izzy brings the perfect aggressiveness to convey overt power. I will play Septimus, the ... The next pivotal moment is the most important in the whole scene. Septimus justifies his 'meeting' with Mrs. Chater by telling Lady Croom that it was only because, "in his madness," he believed "the Chater with her skirts over her head would give [him] the momentary illusion of the happiness to which [he] dared not put a face" (61). During this interaction, I jump up and corner Izzy on one side of the stage whilst in my passionate speech and then when I am finished I retreat into myself. • 18. Literary Techniques Of Thomas Stoppard 's Arcadia Literary Techniques in Thomas Stoppard's Arcadia Arcadia by Thomas Stoppard was written in 1993 depicting the correlation between order and disorder, the present and the past. The concepts tackled in these areas were looked at closely in comparison to the themes of love and death. Stoppard's work of art earned him a position among other renowned contemporary playwrights after it was awarded as one of the outstanding plays that were encompassed the subject of science widely. This was an award issued to it by the institution of Britain in 2006. Arcadia represents the activities of the modern society in comparison to that which was in existence before civilization came into place. The high evolutionary society comprises practices and ideas that can be juxtaposed to strike a balance in the time. Therefore, it can be noted that Stoppard's aim in this case was to juxtapose the ideas of the contemporary lifestyle and the activities of the past in order to strike a balance for the highly evolutionary society. The play Arcadia takes place during the years 1806, 1812, and the present day society. Sidley Park is represented both in the ancient society and in the contemporary one as a country house in Derbyshire, where the Coverly family resides. The play has various characters fashioned in the form of a family as the center of all activity. People such as Bernard Nightingale and Septimus are the people responsible for the dissemination of knowledge in the family. The plot comprises of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Jessica Scruggs Phil 307 Response Paper #3 11/11/16 Millikan's "Biosemantics" Millikan's goal for "Biosementaics" is to explain what connects a representation with the thing it represents. To reach this goal, Millikan has to explain that there are special conditions that need to be met to form a connection between a representation and its object. These "content–fixing" conditions cannot be statistically normal conditions, because normal is a relative term. An example Millikan gives is that of a red face. Is it a sign of sunburn? Exertion? Overheating? Embarrassment? Or, often times in my case, alcohol flush? There are numerous views that focus on the idea that what produces a representation is what makes it what it is. Millikan brings up views by Fodor, Stampe, Matthen, and Dretske. Millikan dismisses Fodor's idea that content is fixed by a causal connection, but the representation's role in a functional system is what, in the end, determines how the content is fixed. She dismisses it because having fixed content means to "act like a representation." Stampe, Matthen, and Dretske say that the representations have a detecting or indicating role, but Millikan also dismisses this as unenlightening, because the terms "detect" and "indicate" basically mean to represent. Millikan refutes all of these notions so that she can explain that the way a representation is used is what fixes the content, not how it was made. The object of representation stands for something because there is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It was titled "Et in Arcadia ego". "Arcadia" actually means a vision of pastoralism and harmony within nature. The Greek province of the same name has helped in the derivation of the term. Remarked by early reviewers to be similar to Tin Man in The Wizard of Oz, Tom Stoppard had excelled in this field and gives a glimpse of his theatrical genius with Arcadia. Arcadia covers the two different ages– the early nineteenth century and the present modern world, matched, juxtaposed together bringing in a rare combination of the different facets of Classicism and Romanticism. The two timelines talk about sex, literature, love, epistemology, landscaping, the Second Law of Thermodynamics and the romance. Stoppard's intellect looms large over the plot of the play and is efficiently presented in the form of this play. It is a two–act play containing seven scenes. The characters belonging to the early nineteenth century are Septimus, Thomasina, Mr. and Mrs. Chater, Lady Croom, Captain Brice, Mr. Richard Noakes. My coaches would act in a very direct and negative form which made us not want to continue being in the team but in the end, the coaches taught us many leadership skills and also discipline which was key in a sports team. I personally felt like I was both theories because I was the team captain so the ways I was communicate with my players made me feel like I am a very mean person but I wanted my team mates to know the expectations in order to be in a very competitive soccer team. I felt like I had to be both theories in order to get my message across in the best form as possible. I had to be harsh in order to show that my coaches and I were not just playing around, we were dedicating our time into make the best soccer team in the USD 500 district. Towards the end of the soccer season I was seeing positive results from each and every one of the players. It made me very happy that I got my message across even though I wasn't naturally a theory X but I had to put myself in the players position. I felt like if I was only a theory Y, half of the team wouldn't take me serious. The coaches in the film were a great example of how both theories could have a good result when it comes to forming a team. Having diversity among the team makes a leader think about every angle of how to approach the whole team because having diversity means that individuals have different backgrounds. It can be difficult to address the whole team on what's expected and the standards that they should be aiming for in order to continue being in the soccer team. As a leader of the soccer team, it was very challenging at some situations because all my teammates were depending on me in order to have positive results. The team builder activity that we did in class was very interesting to do because every person in the group had restrictions and limitations on what they could contribute in the group which made me a bit challenging especially because time was against our favor. The following portfolio will discuss the key ideas of each and the strategies to enable positive teaching. It will highlight certain difficulties and misconceptions that children face and discuss resources and activities to help alleviate these. It will also acknowledge the connections between the areas of mathematics and discuss the need for succinct teaching instead of an isolated approach. Multiplicative Thinking Multiplicative thinking is imperative to a child's understanding of important mathematical concepts and is seen as the 'big idea' in number that links multiple key ideas and strategies (Vergnaud, as cited in Siemon, 2011). Commonly, children have a procedural based view of multiplicative thinking which can hinder progress, as opposed to a more conceptual view which is a far better learning framework (Hurst & Hurrell, 2016). If teachers are to maximise a child's learning, they must acknowledge this and help children maintain a conceptual understanding of multiplicative thinking and emphasise this much more so than procedural rules. Several key ideas and strategies underpin the success of multiplicative thinking and a greater conceptual understanding. Hurst and Hurrell (2014) explain that children need to be acutely aware of the ten times multiplicative relationship between places and how this effects many aspects of mathematics. ... The difference from Group A to Group B is only 0.2538 seconds, but when the data is compared to each other, the probability (P–Value) is 0.000287. This is a significant difference between the two. From Group B to Group C, there is a 0.01 second decrease in time, which has a P– Value of 0.4698. This is not a statistical difference and leaves room for this time to not be a normal outcome. Group C and Group D has a 0.2289 seconds increase, but when calculated with the raw data, there is no significant difference with a P–Value of 0.0833. Group D to Group E is a 0.1252 decrease with a P–Value of 0.3719 making it not significant. Group E to Group F has a 0.6351 second increase with a P–Value of 0.0535 also not making it significant. The last groups, Group F and Group H has a 0.7647 increase but is also ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. Essay on temptopia Theme of Utopianism in The Tempest Theme of Utopianism in The Tempest One traditional theme of The Tempest is Utopianism. Whether it be of physical significance, as Walter Cohen suggests in his essay "Shakespeare and Calderon in an Age of Transition," or of literary significance, as Judith Boss suggests in her essay "The Golden Age, Cockaigne, and Utopia in the The Faerie Queene and The Tempest," it is an important piece of literature in contribution to Utopianism. Judith Boss does an excellent job in breaking down Utopianism within The Tempest into three different categories, the Golden Age, Cockaigne, and Utopia. All three are implemented, or can be derived from The Tempest. In Walter Cohen's essay, he suggests that Shakespeare wrote The Tempest by no ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Judith Boss states "There was always the hope–or belief– that such a land lay hidden in some unexplored corner of the world; and both Spencer and Shakespeare exploited this idea in their works." Nature is readily able to provide everything we need to survive. The only thing that separates man from a Utopian paradise is his own reasoning. In Shakespeare's The Tempest, Gonzalo says, "All things in common nature should produce/ Without sweat or endeavour. Treason, felony,/ Sword, pike, knife, gun, or need of any engine/ Would I not have, but nature should bring forth/ Of it own kind all foison, all abundance/ To feed my innocent people." Gonzalo believes that he would like to have a society classic of what a Golden Age might be. This hope is rather short– lived by the mocking words of Antonio and Sebastian. They create an adversity to Gonzalo's possibility of even having a Golden Age utopia, just by the people that they are. Cockaigne It can be regarded or believed that, in fact the world is able to produce for man and essentially provide a place for paradise, but in question is the fact of whether or not man is able to live in such a place and maintain it's harmony. Man has long since been given free will, if not politically or socially, innately by God. Ultimately man has choice that enables him to form and mold his future and existence. • 34. Group Reflection Paper Forum 12 Johan Rivera Liberty University Introduction In this forum, will be addressing the important concepts learned about groups. Will be describing my personal experience working with my assigned group for this course. Furthermore, will be addressing the main three concepts learned through the duration of this course. Those concepts are tribulation, integrity, and team. Group "Group work is a teaching strategy that promotes academic achievement and socialization" (Frykedal, Chiriac, 2011). This method is often used since allow individuals to combine their skills with the intention to achieve a mutual goal. To be efficient when working with a group, individuals have the responsibility to understand and respect others preferences and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 39). Part of the role of an efficient leader is to recognize that conflicts and unexpected situations will be presented in any type of organization. Leaders will have to make critical and tough decisions that might bring tribulation. A leader should be able to take control of the situation and provide guidance, always taking in consideration the safety and well being of those who follow. It is important that leaders make choices that "protects the organization and others from undue distraction to the mission" (Dees, 2013, p. 44). Integrity "Integrity is simply telling the truth or staying true to a set of values" (Dees, 2013, p80). Integrity is essential in the effectiveness of a leader. "Integrity is often cited as a critical component of leadership"(Palanski, Simons, & Treviño, 2011). An effective leader understands the need to be an example of honesty and truthfulness." While leaders may wholeheartedly agree with the concept for a subordinate to fully embrace effective followership, he or she must trust in the leader/follower relationship"(Satterlee, 2013, p. 7). Followers will place their trust in a leader that act upon values, moral principles and beliefs. Leaders should understand that every decision would have an effect on those around themselves. "The more choices you make based on integrity, the more this highly prized value will affect your relationships with family and friends, and finally, the fundamental acceptance of yourself"(Dees, 2013, p. ... • 35. Essay on Arcadia Arcadia refers to a Utopian ideal: the idea of harmony with nature and the entire world. The term is derived from a Greek province, which bears the same name. The Province's mountainous landscape and history of containing a sparse population of farmers later caused the word "Arcadia" to develop into a poetic byword for an idyllic vision of unspoiled natural beauty. The inhabitants are regarded as living without pride and avarice that corrupted other regions of the world. The inhabitants of Arcadia are regarded as living close to nature, uncorrupted by civilization, and being virtuous. In other words they live in a place that many people would consider a paradise. The title "Arcadia" from Tom Stoppard's play is actually an abbreviation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Out of all the characters in the play Thomasina is perhaps the most beautiful. She is innocent, driven by academic zeal, and a genius of epic proportions. What is truly the most beautiful trait about her is that unlike Mrs. Chater and Lady Croom, it is "an insult in a gazebo," (6) that she desires but true love. The final waltz that Septimus and Thomasina share could not be any more romantic as "Septimus holding Thomasina, kisses her on the mouth. The waltz lesson pauses. She looks at him. He kisses her again, in earnest. She puts her arms around him." (95) The affection the two feel for each other is a huge part of any person's definition of paradise: two people truly in love with each other uncorrupted by the society around them. Yet even in this seemingly paradisiacal situation, Thomasina still tragically dies. The title also alludes to a very important theme which is apparent throughout the play. • 36. Stoppards presentation of Thomasina in Arcadia Essay... Stoppards presentation of Thomasina in Arcadia Tom Stoppard uses Thomasina as his main character in the play. Her story is being told from the past and the whole plot of the play is leading up to her death. The play shows the journey of Thomasina growing up, to the eve of her seventeenth birthday where she would became a woman and have been married off to someone that her mother thought was worthy. Stoppard uses the present scenes well to introduce additional information that Hannah, Valentine and Bernard have found out about Thomasina's life which has not yet happened in story in the past. The way that Stoppard links the formula that Thomansina was studying was very effective as it showed the true difference between the past and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This highlights two of the three major themes of the play, science and sex, the third being literature. Thomasina is at an impressionable age, she admires Septimus and feels they have a special bond, as they have superior intelligence over the other members of the household. Thomasina's relationship with her brother Augustus is not very strong partly because he is away at boarding school for most of the year. Their relationship is highlighted in Scene seven when Augustus joins his sisters drawing lesson. Both Thomasina and Septimus gang up on him and make him aware of their superior intelligence. An example of this is when Septimus says to Augustus "if you are so determined my lord" This is a private joke between Septimus and Thomasina which infuriates Augustus and he feels left out. He then says "Your peace is nothing to me sir, you do not rule over me", a reference to the fact that he will inherit the estate on day and that Septimus is just the tutor. In this scene, he is made to feel inferior to his sister, Thomasina, which he resents, as she is his female sister. Women during this period were not expected to be as highly educated as men. Another example of their relationship is that Augustus feels humiliated to be told the meaning of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. Instruction Methods For Teaching Decisions I honestly thought that this lesson was going to be taught to teach to the class. I spent countless hours reading the information in the curriculum handbook and even collaborating with other teachers just to understand the material properly. I was thoroughly surprised at how well the lesson was received and it greatly boosted my self confidence in my planning and teaching decisions. This lesson was all about symmetry and dividing "crazy cakes" evenly between two people by looking for smaller shapes within the larger shape. The shapes of the cakes literally were crazy because they were not shaped like your normal cake. There were many different angles and sides, because of this each student had to really sit and visualize what other shapes were inside the cake. I feel that my instruction methods worked great for this lesson. I followed the plan given to me by the curriculum book by talking about the activity first then letting the students work together in groups to divide the cakes as best as possible. I thought it would be beneficial to let students come up to the board and practice with dividing the cakes before letting them work with their groups. I think that by allowing a few of them to show their initial thought process allowed others to see how they could divide their cakes as well. I then gave direct instructions on how we were to transition to our tables and begin working on their crazy cakes. The classroom has been struggling lately with transitions, so I was very ... • 38. The Eclogues Of Virgil Are Singularly Pastoral The Eclogues of Virgil are undeniably pastoral. They are flush with idyllic imagery of countryside scenery, animals and abundant greenery, shepherds tending to their flock––the simplicity of a life most intimately intertwined with the natural world. In English Pastoral Poetry, Sir William Empson describes pastoral writing as a method of "putting the complex into the simple" (22). Through idealized and vivid lines, Virgil attests to the greatness of the everyday desserts of life, the "song of a woodman pruning the trees", the "cool of the shade", and the "vine on the leafy elm" (7). Examining further, however, one can observe political, personal, and religious allegories that lay beyond the surface of each Eclogue––particularly in Eclogue ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Meliboeus comes upon Tityrus, another shepherd, who is contrastingly content and without worry. Tityrus explains to Meliboeus that after travelling to Rome and meeting a young man, who has widely been presumed to be the Roman emperor Augustus, he has obtained definitive ownership of his land and need not worry about it being repurposed into housing for discharged soldiers. Meanwhile, Tityrus, the shepherd whom many have speculated to be representative of Virgil, basks in his freedom and love for Augustus, "a god [who] gave [him] this peace" (3). Prior to his travels to Rome, Tityrus suffered in a relationship with the greedy Galatea, in which freedom was a concept unknown to him. His transformation from enslavement to liberation is found through a fusion of urban (Rome) and rural (Arcadia) instances, thus confirming the pastoral element of Virgil to be only complete in this Eclogue when observing similarities and differences between the intricate and the simplistic. Within this employment of the pastoral mode, of its indulgent language and both its conventional and unconventional themes, a light is shone on the poet, Virgil himself, that illuminates the facets of his political and personal thought subtly implemented in the First Eclogue. While he lived comfortably in his home on the coast of Northern Italy, his acquaintances were ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. A Critical Reflection Of Walmart Practice makes perfect. We came into this project knowing we can improve from our first presentation. We knew what areas we had to focus on this time around. We became more comfortable around each other, allowing us to be more expressive without fearing judgment from each other, at least in my point of view. At first, we were a little upset, since we did not want to do a presentation on Walmart. Walmart had a negative connotation to them based on their business practices towards their employees, which pushes me away from their company. Instead, we were hoping to base our project on a sustainable company we, as college students, are closer to, such as New Belgium Brewing. It's funny, but I believe that somewhat make us more close and unified to one another, being able to rally around a common source of frustration. But in the end, we were good. In this project we had to complete for our sustainable company, Walmart, we knew we were being asked to create a creative presentation, to use our imagination to transform the classroom into another world. Creativity is the generation, application, combination, and extension of new ideas. In the context of groups and teams, creativity is inventing or creating a new idea, strategy, principle, or approach to solving a problem (Beebe and Masterson 302). A technique we used to enhance our team creativity was group brainstorming. Brainstorming is a creative problem–solving method, developed by Alex Osborn, designed to help a group ... Leading In The Here And Now: Video Analysis During the "Part III: Conflict and Summation" in the video Group Work: Leading in the Here and Now (Association for Specialists in Group Work, n.d.), the group worked through a tremendous amount of conflict. The main driving force for the conflict was based on self–disclosure that group member Jean offered to the group, surrounding her feelings of anger and distrust with the other members. Her comments sparked the group to investigate and explore their own feelings and emotions not only towards Jean, but the group itself. Corey, Corey, and Corey (2010) noted that, "by taking risks in disclosing here–and–now observations and reactions, members are actively creating trust and making it possible to engage in deeper self–exploration," (p. 253). While Jean's comments upset some individuals in the group, it initiated open and honest responses from the rest of the group. Even though Jean was the primary driver of the conflict during this session, I was particularly interested in Art's feedback and experience during the video. His personal self–disclosure and involvement within the group conflict hit on the key points of this discussion post: personal awareness and successful resolution ... She was rather inactive during all of the videos, and allowed the group to work out their differences amongst themselves. Her almost silent–observer role was extremely non–confrontational, yet Art challenged her directly, addressing her authority (Association for Specialists in Group Work, ...
