2. The audience for our media product would
definitely be for females. This is because it is, of
course, a chick flick and this type of genre is typically
a favourite for females. Chick flicks generally do not
appeal to males; probably due to the fact that it is
not relatable to them as everything that goes on in a
chick flick is usually what happens in a female’s life
and experiences could be similar to those that a
female has experienced.
3. Further from the audience being females, it would
probably also be for young teenage females. This is
because it is set mostly in a school and young
teenage girls are still (usually) at school making it
relatable to them. It also involves things that young
teenage girls would also do in real life, for example
attend a PE lesson or walk down a school corridor-
something that adults don’t tend to do anymore.
4. The fact that the audience is mainly for females
means that our overall audience is significantly
reduced as we are immediately cutting out half of
the population, making our media product almost
like marmite- you love it, or hate it/don’t understand
it. This is something we experienced ourselves
within our teachers, in which our female teachers
completely understood the plot; however our male
teacher didn’t understand what was going on half
the time and we had to explain.
5. In terms of age restrictions, our film would be
classified as a 12, maybe even a PG. There is no
dialogue in our opening scene so there is no use of
bad language, and there is no explicit violence or
sexual references, however during some scenes
there are actions that could be inferred as violence
by some people, for example during the field scene
where the girl is shoved out of the way. This would
mean that the rating would be slightly higher
causing the potential 12 rating.
