This medicine has a lot of categories since it demonstrates that is sure and effectivwe, and this is
clasificated in 5 categories.
The term of "alternative medicine2" is in use for describing therapeutics that is not included in the
learning of conventional medicine, as the acupunter. The persons are in the habit of considering this
type of therapies as foreing to the established medicine, because of it they recive the name of
"alternatives".
Many patients and professionals of the medicine use the alternative treatments together with the
conventional therapies. This is known as complementary medicine. It is used with the same
remedies than alternative medicine to treat a problem of health.
We can classify in: medical alternative systems, interventions body–mind, therapies based on the
biology, methods of manipulation and corporal, enegetic therapies. a coment of a person thar use

Alternative Fuels Essay
UPS's alternative fuels fleet is in response to growing trends in government and environmental
policies along with scientific discoveries in clean energy. The government launched a National
Clean Fleets Partnership aimed at helping businesses incorporate vehicles that run on alternate fuels.
The public private partnership began a collaboration between the U.S. Department of Energy and
businesses such as UPS's. Over the years UPS's has tried different options to achieve cost savings by
using fuel efficient alternative vehicles dating back to the 1930's. The first alternative vehicle they
started using was electric cars to deliver packages in New York City. These electric cars could only
reach 20–mph which was ideal in New York City, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With the 2004 discovery of a massive shale gas fields in the Marcellus Shale region of the United
States this has caused the price of liquefied natural gas to drop in price making it a competitive
choice to diesel. This information is giving UPS more options to alternative fuels at a price that the
company can afford and still make a profit. UPS continues to test and gather information on
alternative fuels that would be best for their business and the environment. It is important for
businesses such as UPS to stay on top of changes in the external environment so they can make the
best decisions for the business. Without the discovery of the shale gas fields UPS would not have the
options that they currently do. The business needs to continue to stay up to date with external
environment information to know which alternative fuel technologies will become central over time.
UPS will continue testing new technologies in order to determine which energy source will have the
greatest benefit to the business. Sustainability is economic development that generates wealth and
meets the needs of the current population while preserving society and the environment for the
needs of future generations. UPS purchased 48 liquified natural gas engine tractor trailers in 2011,

Alternative Medicine In The United States
Breaking Through Walking away from a situation that does not serve someone any good anymore
can be one of the toughest moment that a person can go through. When someone has entrusted their
whole entire life into someone's hand it is hard to come with the grips of reality that the medical
system has failed. When nothing accommodates to a person anymore the only thing left is to leave
all of what they have learned and supported behind, and jump into the unknown. Luckily they do not
have to stray too far from home because alternative medicine is on the high horizon. Alternative
medicine are medical therapies and herbal products that are not given by conventional doctors, but
naturopathic or holistic doctors. There are many types of treatments that alternative practitioners

Fracking : An Alternative Solution
Hydraulic fracturing, or "fracking", has been around since the 1940's. This is the act of injecting
fluid into rocks or rock formations underground that will ultimately release natural gasses and oils.
In the U.S. there are over 500,000 natural gas wells. On top of the already existing wells, many
states across the country are rescinding their ban on fracking. This is one of the more debated topics
when it comes to alternative energy. There is a big split on this issue and it is understandable. There
are many pros but there are also many cons to come along with it. There will come a day where the
oil and gas in the world will become a scarce resource. In the scenario where this does happen,
fracking will be an alternative solution to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On top of the cleaner air and fuel, the oil and gas industry in America employ 9.8million people or
5.6% of the countries' employment (study from 2012). These jobs generated almost $600 billion in
direct income which, in essence, is circulated back into the economy. Recently, fracking has hovered
around 50% of the oil and natural gas output in the industry. As the field grows, the production
number will also. Now, on the other hand, there are many negatives to come along with the
positives. The amount of water that is used for each fracking job is astounding. For every fracking
job, 1–8 million gallons of water will be used. In times where water is a scarcity for many states,
this may be looked down upon. In 2014, one study shows that over 35 million gallons of water were
taken from aquifers in Michigan for a local fracking job. This water was used on only one job, as
you might have guessed, people were justifiably outraged.
Along with drying up rivers and other bodies of water, hydraulic fracturing is also linked with
contaminating the nearby water sources. The possibility of fracking polluting the local water has,
along with many other activities, prompted the creation of the Safe Drinking Water Act of 1974.
Under this act, the EPA sets certain standards for the quality of the drinking water. In many cases,
these fracking companies are exempt from the act. This enables the companies to change the
chemicals they pump into the ground without any reporting or

Homeschooling: A Beneficial Alternative
Homeschooling: a Beneficial Alternative "Genius is one percent inspiration and ninety–nine percent
perspiration," are the words of Thomas Edison whom, after having his teacher claim he was not
teachable, was taken out of school to be homeschooled by his mother. After some radical accounts
of homeschooling gone wrong, Americans currently tend to believe this form of education is of
lesser quality than to that compared of public schooling. However, this alternative option is actually
a plausible choice and in some areas, could even be considered more beneficial in regards to the
long run. Homeschooling has come a long way, and with the support of the government, it has
offered a better choice for Americans that feel that the public school system can't provide everything
their children need. Assisted by online resources and ready–made homeschooling curriculum,
homeschooling has become a popular choice with the number of students learning at home growing.
Recently, many educated and qualified parents have been questioning the methods used by the
public school system to teach their kids and have taken matters into their own hands. In 2008 the
Californian government took measures insuring that the children being homeschooled would receive
a quality education and enforced that all parents have the proper credentials to teach their children at
home (Pacific Justice Institute–Michelle Malkin). These parents believe that by taking their children
out of the public school

Alternative Energy : Renewable Energy
For decades a certain problem has been slowly growing day–by–day. Today the problem has been
more prevalent than ever before. In recent years the current energy usage, which is fossil fuels, is
not sustainable and carries negative effects to the environment. However nothing is perfect, even
renewable energy has its fair share of disadvantages. Can alternative (reusable) energy sources such
as nuclear, hydrogen, biofuels or solar energy meet the energy demands needed by humans to carry
out their everyday tasks such as electricity, commuting, and so on better than fossil fuels such as
coal and oil which creates a mast amount of energy today. Fossil fuels are considered to be
unsustainable, environmentally destructive, inefficient, and the primary contributor to global
warming. It is estimated that about 88 percent of global energy is produced by burning fossil fuels5.
Additionally, only 12 percent of global energy is produced by clean alternative energy sources5. It is
time for individuals to think whether alternative energy can efficiently replace fossil fuels.
Using alternative energy increases the nation's stability economically and environmentally, which
reduces Canada and USA's dependency for foreign energy sources6. However, many technological
difficulties must be analyzed and resolved before alternative energy can substitute even a small
percentage of the power produced by fossil fuels. For example, an average solar panel can only
achieve about 10–30 percent

Alternative Rock Music
Music junkies, concert connoisseurs, and vinyl vigilantes everywhere need to know about the
similarities and differences between the alternative rock and indie rock genres. The genres
alternative and indie are terms sometimes used interchangeably, but their origins are indeed
differing. There has been a varying progression of media platforms used to listen to these genres
among the past few decades due to society's social and economic changes. In terms of instrumental
progressions and technological buildups in the music world, the instruments and stylings used to
define these genres has changed as well. According to the Oxford English Dictionary, alternative
rock is defined as "a style of rock music characterized as unconventional, or outside the mainstream
which resonated powerfully with a generation weathering an economic recession." Conversely,
Oxford explains the term indie as "the deliberately unpolished or ... Show more content on

I would choose to define alternative rock as music that has heavy metal influenced rhythms, with the
use of electric guitars and bass drums, but conveys a lighter, upbeat feel, and uses meaningful lyrics.
Alternative rock emerged in the late 80's and early 90's when the United States was facing an
economic recession and in a post–war state. The songs alternative rock artists wrote during this time
tended to be more melancholy in sound, and carry out the use of lyrics about the struggles society as
a whole, and the artists as individuals were facing due to this social and economic decline. These
lyrics were relatable for listeners and adequately helped them cope with the strife. These artists,
more often than note were signed by more widely–known record labels. Examples of these bands

The Pros And Cons Of Alternative Schools
"At risk" is a term that is frequently used to define students attending an alternative school. These
students are "at risk" of a having a broad range of educational, behaviour and social issues along
with dropping out of school completely (Carole G. Fuller and David A. Sabatino, 1996). The steady
growth of youth attending alternative school has been supported by authors, researchers,
organizations and even school boards for giving students who are/were "at–risk" in a mainstream
school setting an alternative experience. (Carole G. Fuller and David A. Sabatino, 1996)
Two researchers, Dynarski and Gleason (1998), made an argument concerning dropout prevention
programs, with the focus on the populations of alternative schools with a different perspective. They
found that students labeled at risk in their programs also had other concerns such as high academic
achievement and high expectations for their future. Alternative schools and programs have evolved
through the years to address a variety of student issues from within and outside the school
environment. While the definitions of current alternative school and programs are varied, several
common characteristics are among the options currently in existence (Young. T 1990). The students
within alternative school require a specific education program that will provide them with their best
chance at success. Programs that include individualized, flexible plans with clear expectations, an
emphasis on student personal care, and

Community Service Activities Through The Alternative...
Earlier this year, I saw the same homeless man sitting on the curb with all his belongings in a cart
and his dog at his side. I saw him day in and day at the same curb with the same clothes and the
same despaired look on his face for several months. I would often think to myself that I should
probably give him some money or even the left over sandwich that I had from lunch that day, but I
never actually did. Until one day, it dawned on me that it had been awhile since I've seen him. At
first I found myself pondering the thought of what happened to him and if he was okay then I started
to wonder what if I could have made a difference if I had done something different. I acknowledged
that characteristic about myself early into the semester, so I decided to make a change. In order to
transform that aspect of myself, I decided to do something. I took the liberty to sign up for several
different community service activities through the Alternative Breaks Program at Florida
International University that benefited the campus and the homeless. I wanted to take action and
help the less fortunate. I want to help those individuals who don't have a warm bed to sleep on or
clean clothes on their back. I want to be a lending hand for those in need. I feel sympathy for those
individuals who have to suffer through a life with the bare minimum or even less than that. As stated

Alternative Medicine: Try Something New
Today more then ever alternative medicine is becoming more accepted and widely used as regular
medicine. Alternative medicine is considered the use of any medicine out of the normal of what is
considered conventional. "Alternative medicine was once considered the domain of snake oil
charlatans and gullible consumers"(Waltman, et al 1). As the growing popularity of alternative
medicines has increased, so has the number of groups and organizations set up to discover more
about these medicines. One group that is set up to discover new findings in this field is the National

The way alternative medicines work is if a person can find a need for something there is usually a
cure or remedy out in the world.
With alternative medicine being more and more a part of everyday life, doctors are beginning to use
alternative as their main practice. Dr. Ken Bock says " with the advent of managed care, the average
doctor visit is now seven minutes and people are turning to alternative practitioners to get the care
they need"(Crone 2). This is helping because people are learning that they can find cures and
solutions to their ailments that they once thought incurable. "As people learn to take health into their
own hands, however, they still need guidance from science. After all, herbal remedies are still
unregulated by the FDA, and little is known about their long–term effects"(Crone 2). " For medical
doctors currently caring for patients with back problems, anxiety, depression or chronic pain, the
odds are greater than one in three that a patient is simultaneously using unconventional therapy for
these medical problems without disclosing this fact"(Monroe 3). Sometimes the person doesn't have
to be healed to be affected by alternative medicine. Evidence shows that unorthodox medicine does
help people feel better, even when it does not really cure the infection or disease (Monroe 3). One
alternative advocate named Dossey states "these concepts are going to cause an immense

The Use Of Alternative Energy Sources
Alternative energy sources can be implemented for house and car factories and any other facility
you can imagine. The common known alternative energy sources are Hydroelectric Energy, Solar
Energy, and Wind Energy. The potential energy stored in hydroelectric energy that is driving into a
dam of water to make water turbines and generators. The energy that the earth receives from the sun
is solar energy. Human civilization has started realizing how much harm they have already caused to
the environment. Alternative Energy Sources helped people maintain balance of the nature without
causing harm to conventional energy sources. Solar energy is a renewable form of energy will not
deplete until thousands of years. It's solar power to a generation is very clean. Wind Energy is an
effective alternative sources of energy in places where the velocity of the wind is high but is a very
clean form of energy. But the wind is a renewable source of energy therefore it wouldn't make a big
problem. The new alternative energy source is apart from commonly knowing that there have been
recent advancements discovering to add of to the list of old alternative sources. Challenges by using
the alternative energy sources are promised as the use of alternative sources of energy is under
research to how to tap energy from other resources. Although the small powers of generation
systems be brought into other places but the power generation from the resources on large scales are
very challengeable with

Traditional and Alternative Teaching
Chapter 1 INTRODUCTION
THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND It is well known that children learn in various ways
and have their own individual styles and strategies. Some may enjoy group works, others individual
works. Some may prefer teacher instructions with worksheets and firm direction, rather than self–
generated research projects. There are numerous ways children learn, but how does the surrounding
environment, affects a child's learning ability and influence the learning strategies that employ? Our
society these days are divided into two different ways of thinking on the education. Some may
believe that alternative methods are better than the traditional methods of teaching but yet these two
methods are both a successful ways. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With the view of functionalist, Skinner (1953) developed his theory of learning on the concept of
operantconditioning . He offer the organism operates in the environment doing whatever it does.
According to Skinner , while operating, the organisms encounters stimuli to which he referred as
reinforcing stimuli.
Cognitive Leaning Theory A founding father of Cognitive Learning Theory, GagnE (1985)
contended that it is more realistic to assume that there are different kinds of learning, arranged in a
hierarchy, with one sortbeing the prerequisite for the next. For example, solving an algebraic
problem depends on understanding algebraic function, which depends on knowing basic
mathematical skills and computations, which depends on recognizing simple numbers and symbols.
For GagnE, simple conditioning only provided the basis for more advance kind of learning. He built
on the behaviorist model by adding processing or cognitive component to Skinners' model.
Conceptual Framework For a better understanding of the study, the conceptual framework is
presented in the paradigm below which consist of independent and dependent variables.
Figure 1: Paradigm of the Study The research paradigm of the study in figure 1 has the dependent
variables which consist of the subjects, materials and classrooms. While the independent variables

Do you have to pay to put fuel in a vehicle? I know I do and it's becoming more of a large burden
rather than just another small expense of living. It's safe to say that the majority of people owning
motor vehicles dislike the constant fluctuation in the price of oil and gasoline. The four worst
polluters when it comes to the burning of fossil fuels are the United States, China, Japan, and Britain
(Editorial par. 3). At the rate at which it is rising now, vehicles are soon going to be a luxury because
people will not be able to afford the price of fuel. One possible solution to this problem, and many
other instances that rely on the burning of fossil fuels, is the use of renewable energy sources. Two

1). IRENA is just one of many ways that a person can get involved in helping our world become
cleaner and more efficient in using the resources we have. The technology that the world possesses
today is underdeveloped when referring to solar and wind energy. The research needed for the
extensive use of wind and solar energy should be a priority for today's world because it will reduce
the monetary cost of energy in the long run, decrease the negative effects of burning fossil fuels on
our atmosphere, and preserve the natural resources of the Earth. To begin, the use of solar energy is
not something new that has been recently discovered. Solar power has been utilized in many
different ways dating back to the ancient Egyptians. Surprising as it is, we utilize the power today in
similar ways to what the Egyptians used it for. Common uses of solar energy are drying objects such
as clothing and other necessities and growing crops (Solar Energy par. 6). The broad use of solar
energy continues to arise in many different and unique ways. A scientist by the name of Joseph

world. Without it, people would not be able to grow

Every day, many fossil fuel consuming contraptions spew out gases that pollute the environment.
However, when the fuel supplies for these devices run out, they will grind to a halt. To prevent this,
the United States needs to find an alternative to unstable and polluting energy sources before it's too
late (Rouge). It also needs to advance in technological status in order to stay above advancing third–
world countries, and retain its current level of hegemony (Glaser). Space Based Solar Power
Satellites, which are satellites that collect the sun's energy and beam it down to the Earth, solve for
all these concerns (Rouge). Thus, the United States Federal Government should provide grants for
research, development, and implementation of Space ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In other words, even though other energy sources could solve the energy crisis, none boast the
advantages and flexibility that Space Based Solar Power can provide. For example, Solar Power
Satellites are extremely useful to the military, as they are capable of beaming energy down to any
location on the world, and are able to support military operations all over the world. People may
argue that the United States does not have the technology to develop Space Based Solar Power, and
that it will never get into space (Mankins). However, the technology required is already available.
According to Rouge, "Space Based Solar Power is a complex engineering challenge, but [it]
requires no fundamental scientific breakthroughs or new physics to become a reality (Rouge)." If the
United States is to prepare for a future energy crisis, it must act now and begin development on
Space Based Solar Power.

technological dominance, but may not stay in that position for much longer if the United States
doesn't substantially increase the money being spent for research and development of new
technologies. Every year, more and more countries pour money into research, and they begin to

Complementary And Alternative Medicine ( Cam )
CAM Therapeutic Modalities Paper
Complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) is important in todays' health care for researchers,
practitioners, and consumers. Society should be aware of the safety of taking herbs, therapies, and
any health topics. The CAM website can be a useful website to research information that a person
wants to gain background on. In the following paper, I will give definitions of alternative,
complementary, integrative medicine, conventional medicine role, CAMs philosophy, five domains
of therapies, and research a treatment.
Definition of Alternative, Complementary, and Integrative Medicine Alternative is a non–
mainstream approach in place of conventional medicine. A system of healing or treating disease,
such as homeopathy, Ayurveda, faith healing, and chiropractic that is not included in the traditional
curricula in medical schools. Complementary medicine is a non–mainstream approach together with
conventional medicine. Practices of alternative medicine acquired and adapted by mainstream
medical practitioners, such as acupuncture. Integrative medicine is holistic and encloses the mind,
body, and spirit. It encircles both conventional and alternative medicine to use the best evidence of
both approaches to healing. Integrative medicine integrates the therapies of alternative medicine
with mainstream medical practitioners. The terms differ because integrative medicine is finding new
solutions for prevention and treatment of health care problems,

Frankfurt : The Principle Of Alternative Possibilities (...
Zhiyuan Li Philosophy 3000 Frankfurt Without Counter–Examples: An Alternative Possibility Harry
Frankfurt (1969) argues that the principle of alternative possibilities (PAP): (PAP) a person is
morally responsible for what he has done only if he could have done otherwise (829) is false,
because there are cases where a person is morally responsible for what she has done even if she
could not have done otherwise (835–6). Call such cases Frankfurt–style cases. A lot of literature
thereafter has been targeted on these Frankfurt–style cases, particularly whether it's really possible
to construct them. Among critics of Frankfurt, David Widerker (2003) takes one step further and he
grants, for the sake of his argument, that it is possible to construct Frankfurt–style cases ; however,
he argues that even so, Frankfurt's argument still fails because there are counter–examples to
Frankfurt–style cases, which are in favor of PAP (60–2). This paper is a defense of Frankfurt.
Having said that, however, I think Widerker has developed a very strong criticism of Frankfurt
which in some sense takes away his prima facie intuition. Therefore, it seems to me not enough for
defenders of Frankfurt to respond by just refuting the counter–examples Widerker provides against
Frankfurt–style cases – they must somehow bring their intuition back. This is exactly what I want to
pursue in this paper. I will argue that Frankfurt's argument may be reconstructed in an alternative
way, which does not depend

The Pros And Cons Of Alternative Medicine
Medication and therapy – both of these can be associated with alternative medicine or conventional
medicine, depending on which way one views them. Many people love the natural aspect of
alternative medicine, but many discredit the benefits and results. People think that alternative
medicine is not only a waste of time and money, but it can hurt more than it helps. However,
alternative medicine and practices can heal the mind, body, and one's spirit. Alternative medicine
can reduce pain and improve health; therefore, it should be used with conventional medicine.
Natural techniques and procedures that do not involve extreme medicine, surgeries, or side effects
can be used to improve the lives of many people. Alternative medicine covers a broad range of

Mind–body exercises can reduce stress and help people relax. "Positive thinking can not only lead to
better moods and coping skills, it can improve our overall health" (Flanigan 5). Most people think of
the beach when they need to relax, because it hits most of the sensory elements; sight, sound, touch,
and smell. Using techniques to calm the mind and body can lower heart rate, lower blood pressure,
and releases endorphins (Flanigan 5). If people took the time to learn and master their mind–body
connection, they would see the improvements it makes. Another equally important reason to support
alternative medicine is, it is more natural than the addictive and severe medicines or surgeries. Using
other therapies will not have the major side effects as conventional medicine. For example, round

If America makes the change to renewable fuels, it could take hundreds of years to undo the indirect
damage that will be triggered. The amount of pollution that would be emitted by harvesting new
fuels is as devastating as not switching at all (Grunwald). The processes for acquiring these
alternatives create pollution that will destroy our environment. It is counterproductive to use
renewable energy, if it does not enhance the current situation. Many people are supportive of the
change, but are unaware of the long term effects on the economy and environment. The issue of

Ethanol also causes livestock to be harder to maintain and rear. Most farm animals eat corn but
because corn is being converted into ethanol, the price of animal living has gone up causing meat to
be more expensive. This will become a permanent chain reaction if ethanol becomes an authorized
source of energy produced to the general public. Sean Byrne writes in "Green Living May Mean
Cold Comfort for Many", that "although requiring vast tracts of land ... biomass crops to produce
ethanol not only use almost as much energy as they produce, they also may contribute significantly
to world hunger." Ethanol will be very costly because corn is known as a crop grown for rations, so
when a produce becomes a power supply, the market worth will significantly amplify. Ethanol does
not have many benefits to the world population. It causes increased world hunger because all corn
crops are used in creating ethanol and also is inefficient because it depletes the same amount of
energy it creates. When corn could be raised in huge quantities, it was reasonable to use ethanol.
Now that corn is not plentiful, it costs more to produce ethanol. Using it was no problem because of
this abundant amount but since then, the amount of corn being produced has lessened causing it to
become more and more expensive. If ethanol becomes the archetype of energy, the economy will
become debauched and erroneous. It's stated that "...grid operators, who

Taxpayers for Public Education is similar to StreetWise in that the organization focuses on the
collectiveness of people to reach their common goals. By reaching out to a large target audience,
Taxpayers for Public Education can communicate the message that working collectively is more

Alternative Energy Advantages
The Benefits of Alternative Energy
Alternative energy has been an option as an energy source for a few years now. Unfortunately, there
were a significant amount of obstacles that it has had to overcome, or that it is still having to
overcome. The obstacles range from the lack of efficiency of alternative energy, fossil fuels being
more efficient than alternative energy, and the subpar technological advancements. There are
situations where alternative energy is useful and should be considered. Although alternative energy
has not always been a reliable energy source, today it is more efficient than in the past, and is a
clean alternative to fossil fuels.
There are an abundant amount of alternative energy sources, nevertheless there are certainly ones
that are more practical and efficient than others depending on the user of said energy source. A few
of the more popular alternative energy sources include methods of generating energy such as solar
power, hydropower, and wind power. While it is not entirely possible for each of these alternative
energy sources to be used by individuals who are looking to use them for their personal gain, it is
not uncommon to see industrial use of these energy sources. One example of how home use can be
taken advantage of is illustrated by an article that was released by The Wall Street Journal. The
specific part of the article speaks of solar and how it can be used for individual homes, it explains
that in Texas the wind stops blowing once the

Alternative Sources Of Alternative Energy Sources
What are alternative energy sources ? Alternative energy sources are forms of energy that use
natural resources to produce energy. There are three main alternative energy sources that can be used
in the place of fossil fuels, which are Nuclear, Solar, Wind, and Hydroelectric. Fossil fuels such as
coal, oil, and gas are decreasing and eventually will run out. Usage of fossil fuels cause harm to the
environment by producing greenhouse gasses. Alternative energy sources are not harmful to the
environment. Some countries are trying out alternative energy sources to reduce the dependence of
fossil fuels, but its still not enough. If more alternative sources are used we could turn this planet
into a much a much safer place. Its important that we make use of alternative sources everywhere
before its to late.
Why are they termed "non renewable" ? Similar to fossil fuels, Nuclear energy has also been termed
as a non–renewable energy source. This is because it can not be recreated after being used. Unlike
Nuclear energy, Wind, Solar, and Hydroelectric are known as renewable sources. These three are
considered renewable because they can be replenished over time from the Earth's natural processes.
This is vital because these sources would never run out, as long as the Earth's environmental cycle is
still intact. Even though the damage caused by the usage of non renewable energy can't be deleted; if
more alternative energy sources are used we can help earth environmental cycle can

Alternative Sources Of Alternative Energy Sources
Alternative Energy Sources Air pollution, resulting from the burning of fossil fuels, amounts for
about 7 million deaths each year. On average, 1 in 8 deaths are caused by some type of air pollution.
Fossil fuels are burned every day to keep the world functioning but are accompanied by tremendous
amounts of pollution. The world needs energy sources that are as effective as fossil fuels but that
come with less harmful pollutants than fossil fuels do. An effort must be made to pull away from
harmful fossil fuels and to switch over to cleaner energy sources such as solar power, wind power,
and geothermal power. Switching over to cleaner energy is very important because of the eminent
threat of global warming that lurks just around the corner. If humans are not careful, they will
damage the environment and the atmosphere to a point beyond repair. Major factories and cities can
begin to convert to cleaner energy sources and cut back on pollution tremendously. They can do this
by harnessing energy from the sun, utilizing frequent gusts of wind, and by tapping into the heat of
the Earth's core.
Fossil fuels such as coal, oil, and natural gas account for roughly 85 percent of total energy that is
used in the United States. All three of these fossil fuels release harmful gases such as carbon dioxide
and monoxide, sulfur oxides, nitrogen oxides, and hydrocarbons into our atmosphere. The Union of
Concerned Scientists explain how these gases are trapped in the Earth's

Modern alternative energy generation methods are limited by several factors including efficiency,
inability to respond to sudden changes in power demand, and susceptibility to environmental events.
In 2010 the leading renewable energy sources were hydro–electric, wind, bioenergy, geothermal,
and solar Photo Voltaic (PV)[1]. Of these, hydroelectric made up 82% of the renewable resource
energy generation, while the other means all contributed about equally. These relationships can be
seen clearly in the table below. Although hydroelectric makes up a large portion of the electricity
produced, it is not appropriate to discount the other sources due to the frequency where
hydroelectric power generation is unpractical. It is important to have a ... Show more content on

The addition of the dam can also have negative effects downstream, where water flow will now be
restricted. These drawbacks often make a hydroelectric dam impractical, and as a result cannot be
the only form of renewable energy that we consider bringing into a smart grid.
After hydroelectric, the next leading energy producer is the wind turbine. In 2015, wind turbines
across the United States generated roughly 226 billion kilowatt–hours of electricity[3]. Wind
turbines raise many different concerns from hydroelectric power sources because of how differently
these sources create electricity. The wind turbine operates by transforming the kinetic energy of the
wind into electricity using a generator turned by the turbine blades. The most notable difference in
performance between these sources is that, unlike hydroelectric dams, which can in impractical or
simply impossible in some places in the world, the wind turbine is acceptable anywhere that wind is
present. Though wind can be found everywhere, there is a significant issue that the wind does not
blow to match the demand for electricity. This means there are three states that these systems can
operate in. Should the turbines be permitted to spin freely, they could produce more electricity than
is needed, or if it were a calm day, electricity demands could outweigh the amount of electricity
produced. It's almost impossible for the

Why Alternative Schools Should Be Consuasive At A High...
When I walk across the stage at my high school commencement, I am going to be feeling successful
and accomplished. Although I will be feeling these emotions, I know that there will be others
walking across that same stage collecting the same diploma, and they will be students who didn't
push themselves or put in the same amount of time and effort towards earning it as I did. The
students I am referring to attend alternative school, although some will deserve it just as much as I
do and will be getting it for all the right reasons. As I consider this and am experiencing it first hand,
I believe students who attend alternative schools do not deserve the same diploma as those students
who attend regular high school. Going to regular high school has taught me about responsibility and
self discipline. Every day I have to wake up and be to school by 8:10 a.m. I have to go to class all
day until 3:15. It's different for alternative students: some don't have to attend school every day, and
others don't have to be there until later in the day. By having to go to school at the same time and
having expectations in my classes I am learning how to manage my time and work hard to get my
homework done before I go to class. On the other hand, at the alternative school I feel as if they get
a lot of leeway. According to the students, there is no consequences for skipping their homework or
not having it done on time. This is even starting to come into our high school. Teachers now have to

Alternative Healthcare Options Or Alternative Medicine
Introduction
Alternative healthcare options or alternative medicine is "any of various systems of healing or
treating disease (such as acupuncture, chiropractic, homeopathy, or faith healing) that is not included
under traditional medical practice in the United States and Britain" (Webster dictionary). Alternative
medicine is the term used for medical products and practices that are not part of the standard of care.
Standard of care is what medical doctors, doctors of traditional medicine, and allied health
professionals, such as nurses and physical therapists, practice. Alternative medicine is used in place
of standard medical care. Examples of alternative practices that do not include traditional medicine
are aroma therapy, diet therapy, herbalism, homeopathy, massage therapy, reflexology, chiropractic
therapy, cannabis, faith or spiritual healing and acupuncture amongst others (Medicine.net).
Alternative medical systems are built upon complete systems of theory and practice sometimes these
systems develop into something substantial; some if these systems have even developed in western
cultures. Examples of alternative medical systems that have developed in Western cultures are
homeopathic medicine and naturopathic medicine. Examples of systems that have developed in

Alternative energy is imperative to the continuation and advancement of the world. There will come
a time where the unsustainable resources we use to power every aspect of our lives will cease to
exist, or become uneconomical. In the same way, the pollutants given off by using these energy
materials are believed to be the leading cause of global warming; which has become more accepted
both socially and scientifically in the last decade. This is an ever growing global economic issue. As

Global Warming
Global warming went from being believed a fabrication to a mainstream issue that the Bush
administration had to face. Average surface temperatures from over the last century rose seven–
tenths of a degree Celsius. In that same amount of time, 40% of the world's polar caps have
retreated. If we continue using fossil fuels at this rate, temperatures worldwide will increase by 3
degrees Celsius by 2100. It is important to note that 59% of the greenhouse gases emitted came from
fossil fuels. "The United States with four percent of the world's population produces twenty–five
percent of the greenhouse gases" (Baer, 2008, p. 1). If we don't reduce the amount of fossil fuels
used the world will face disasters on many fronts. Rising sea levels will submerge low–lying islands
causing mass relocation. "Peoples living in coastal areas around the world face the possibility of
increased flooding and hurricanes due to the rise of the oceans and their warming" (Baer, 2008, p. 2)
Although an immediate change from fossil fuels to alternative energy sources would be an economic
disaster, a gradual change will allow our children's children to live higher quality lives in a more
hospitable environment. Science fiction plays many post nuclear scenarios, but an equally dangerous

of these products claim to be some ancient secrets with testimonials of people who say it changed
their life. These types of medicine are usually not proven and are called alternative medicine, but are
they safe? Alternative medicine is a growing trend, but most people don't realize what harm could be
done to their body by straying from conventional medicine. From the article " Complementary,
Alternative, or Integrated Health" from the Department of Health & Human Services, alternative
medicine is an uncommon treatment in place of conventional medicine and has history of use. These
types of medicine are hard to find because if they are studied and proven to work they are accepted
into conventional medicine practices. It is important to research an alternative before starting one
and to consult a medical professional. It is also important to remember that some alternative
medicines may work differently on different people and could also not be effective for some people.

least 5,000 dollars of investment. In addition, most batteries are very large and heavy which is a
disadvantage for the aggressiveness of the car since it slows it down. This might not be a big issue
for some people; however, there are performance enthusiasts who seek pace in their vehicles;
perhaps all–electric vehicles aren't the best option for them. As a conclusion, all–electric vehicles are
designed perfectly to give at least damage as possible to nature unless the electricity required to run
the vehicles is produced by non eco–friendly power plants, but there are plent of power plants that

The scientific community is much quicker to label this second type as quacks, whereas the scientific
community has failed to gain a consensus on the legitimacy of the first type. Unfortunately, both are
encompassed by the term alternative medicine. This paper will focus on the more controversial
alternative medicines described in the first group.
By examining some of the most popular, enduring alternative medical systems, one can begin to see
some general trends of the systems, understand some recurring flaws, and understand the attraction
and usefulness of alternative medicine in today's health care system. However, alternative medicine
remains controversial. Whether it can be supported scientifically or not, alternative medicine may be
useful to encourage both physical and mental well–being via a placebo effect. For this reason,
alternative medicine must be considered by physicians as a complement to modern medicine.

Alternatives Of Alternative Energy : Alternative Sources...
Alternate Sources of Energy Energy is something we rely on every day. It heats our houses, charges
our phones and in some cases even our cars. In most instances, this energy is harnessed from large
power plants in the area who rely on nuclear fission to create their power. However, there are many
other alternative sources of energy that are still being used all the time such as tidal, solar or
geothermal. These alternate energy sources are being improved every day and should be looked into
by families and communities that could benefit from them, and that's what will be focused here. It is
these sources that will be focused on here. One extremely popular source of alternate energy is solar.
This energy has been around for a large sum of years and is quite well known as solar panels are
being installed on buildings and houses every day. Solar power relies on the enormous amount of
energy that comes from the sun in the form of heat and light. This energy arrives in packets called
photons, which hit the atoms in solar cells placed on houses and open fields. These photons knock
out the electrons which then flow through the cell's circuit, this, in turn, creates electricity (Figure
1). An electrical panel attached to the circuit then transfers this energy into the house to power lights
and appliances. The reason this method of creating power is so popular is due to its many evident
advantages. One of which includes the environmental benefits solar panels have. These benefits

"There is considerable interest in electric and hybrid cars because of environmental and climate
change concerns, tougher fuel efficiency standards, and increasing dependence on imported oil"
(Deal). Hybrid and electric cars are a way to reduce our carbon footprint. Many vehicle
manufacturers are beginning to jump into the hybrid car craze. Some of the most popular hybrid cars
are the Toyota Prius, Honda Insight and Ford Fusion. There is also the electric car that relies solely
on electricity to get from point A to point B. the downside to these cars however is that they only get
about 100 miles before needing to be recharged. Hybrids are different because they rely on a
mixture of two sources, electricity and gasoline. Hybrids can get further than electric cars because of
this reason. Electric and hybrid cars have a special braking system called regenerative braking.
Regenerative braking causes the car to recharge the battery whenever the car is coasting or
completely stopped. this helps maintain the car's battery life. Charging these batteries can take a
while, some even take more than eight hours!
While the popularity of hybrids and electric vehicles are on the rise, many people still drive a good–
old fashioned gasoline car. Whereas driving a normal car will not be as environmentally friendly as

Alternative Energy In The United States
In the United States, major fossil–fuel–burning energy–producing industries dominate: they are
more widely used, they produce more energy, and they severely harm the environment. I believe that
the United States should move towards alternative energies that don't burn fossil fuels to produce
energy, such as solar, wind, geothermal, and hydroelectric power, because they, despite their
currently high price point, provide large amounts of pollution free–energy, which will increase
energy independence due to their ability to easily produce electricity within the nation and create
amounts of electricity competitive to those of conventional energies. Alternative energies, "energy
sources which are not based on the burning of fossil fuels or the splitting of atoms," (qtd. in "What
Are Alternative") are a controversial issue in the United States today. Because of their cost and
existence that goes against normal American energy standards, efficient forms of alternative energy
generation, like solar, wind, hydroelectric, and geothermal energy generation have faced a bit of a
social stigma in the past, where people associate those who use alternative energies to be either
hippies or hipsters. Because of their general unpopularity, alternative energies have seen little use in
America, with the country heavily relying on more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Are alternative energy sources the answer to ending human dependence on oil? Right now there is
no one substitute for oil because we use it for a variety of things. We can use alternative sources in
areas to preserve or conserve our usage of oil. We use to use wood for fires and light. Then in the
industrial revolution we began to use coal. "Coal can provide much more energy over longer periods

Maybe if they did a payment schedule on buying them rather than leasing it would attract even more

field of medicine. Usually, the methods used in alternative medicine got its founding principles on
the philosophies that are opposite of those in modern–day medicine. In addition, it also integrates
the use of spiritual practices, new approaches, or pre–modern medical traditions in the healing
process.
Alternative health care is a holistic way of caring for our body, mind and spirit. It is called
alternative because it offers a way of caring for our health that is not conventional or what we are

But with the advent of these drugs we gradually forgot alternative health care in favor of
conventional medicine. One reason was that conventional medicine was fast and predictable. You do
not have to search for the herb and boil it and make a concoction out of it. You just go to the
drugstore, present the prescription your doctor gave you, receive the medicine from the pharmacist
or his/her aide and pay for it. Upon reaching home, you just take the medicine. It is so convenient.
But the recent experience of people taking conventional drugs is that they may lead to dependence
on these drugs and larger doses may be required upon subsequent intakes. Furthermore there are bad
effects in taking these drugs. These happen especially with antibiotic drugs. So people began to look
for alternative ways of healing, one that is not heavily dependent on synthetic drugs and one that
heals body, soul and spirit so that the person really become whole.

The natural gas alternative aids in the contribution in reducing the United States reliance on foreign

consumer based vehicles. A company by the name of Air Liquide, recently stated that in
collaboration with Toyota, an entirely integrated hydrogen fueling framework would be
implemented in the United States (Fuel Cells Bulletin, 2014).Toyota is involved with the project due
to the recent release of the Mirai model which runs on hydrogen. "Hydrogen has great potential to
provide clean energy. Used in the fuel cell, hydrogen combines with oxygen from the air to produce
electricity, with water as the only by–product" (Fuel Cells Bulletin, 2014). The Mirai is the turning
point for the automotive sector according to Wardlaw. The vehicle had more than twenty years of
research and development prior to its release. The author argues that the technology is here and
ready for mass consumption, but that the only piece missing is the infrastructure (Wardlaw, 2015).
In response to the issues with infrastructure, Toyota has opened up its patents on the technology as a

  • 4. Alternative Fuels Essay UPS's alternative fuels fleet is in response to growing trends in government and environmental policies along with scientific discoveries in clean energy. The government launched a National Clean Fleets Partnership aimed at helping businesses incorporate vehicles that run on alternate fuels. The public private partnership began a collaboration between the U.S. Department of Energy and businesses such as UPS's. Over the years UPS's has tried different options to achieve cost savings by using fuel efficient alternative vehicles dating back to the 1930's. The first alternative vehicle they started using was electric cars to deliver packages in New York City. These electric cars could only reach 20–mph which was ideal in New York City, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With the 2004 discovery of a massive shale gas fields in the Marcellus Shale region of the United States this has caused the price of liquefied natural gas to drop in price making it a competitive choice to diesel. This information is giving UPS more options to alternative fuels at a price that the company can afford and still make a profit. UPS continues to test and gather information on alternative fuels that would be best for their business and the environment. It is important for businesses such as UPS to stay on top of changes in the external environment so they can make the best decisions for the business. Without the discovery of the shale gas fields UPS would not have the options that they currently do. The business needs to continue to stay up to date with external environment information to know which alternative fuel technologies will become central over time. UPS will continue testing new technologies in order to determine which energy source will have the greatest benefit to the business. Sustainability is economic development that generates wealth and meets the needs of the current population while preserving society and the environment for the needs of future generations. Alternative Medicine In The United States Breaking Through Walking away from a situation that does not serve someone any good anymore can be one of the toughest moment that a person can go through. When someone has entrusted their whole entire life into someone's hand it is hard to come with the grips of reality that the medical system has failed. When nothing accommodates to a person anymore the only thing left is to leave all of what they have learned and supported behind, and jump into the unknown. Luckily they do not have to stray too far from home because alternative medicine is on the high horizon. • 8. Fracking : An Alternative Solution Hydraulic fracturing, or "fracking", has been around since the 1940's. This is the act of injecting fluid into rocks or rock formations underground that will ultimately release natural gasses and oils. In the U.S. there are over 500,000 natural gas wells. On top of the already existing wells, many states across the country are rescinding their ban on fracking. This is one of the more debated topics when it comes to alternative energy. There is a big split on this issue and it is understandable. There are many pros but there are also many cons to come along with it. There will come a day where the oil and gas in the world will become a scarce resource. In the scenario where this does happen, fracking will be an alternative solution to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... On top of the cleaner air and fuel, the oil and gas industry in America employ 9.8million people or 5.6% of the countries' employment (study from 2012). These jobs generated almost $600 billion in direct income which, in essence, is circulated back into the economy. Recently, fracking has hovered around 50% of the oil and natural gas output in the industry. As the field grows, the production number will also. Now, on the other hand, there are many negatives to come along with the positives. The amount of water that is used for each fracking job is astounding. For every fracking job, 1–8 million gallons of water will be used. In times where water is a scarcity for many states, this may be looked down upon. In 2014, one study shows that over 35 million gallons of water were taken from aquifers in Michigan for a local fracking job. This water was used on only one job, as you might have guessed, people were justifiably outraged. Along with drying up rivers and other bodies of water, hydraulic fracturing is also linked with contaminating the nearby water sources. The possibility of fracking polluting the local water has, along with many other activities, prompted the creation of the Safe Drinking Water Act of 1974. Under this act, the EPA sets certain standards for the quality of the drinking water. In many cases, these fracking companies are exempt from the act. This enables the companies to change the chemicals they pump into the ground without any reporting or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 10. Homeschooling: A Beneficial Alternative Homeschooling: a Beneficial Alternative "Genius is one percent inspiration and ninety–nine percent perspiration," are the words of Thomas Edison whom, after having his teacher claim he was not teachable, was taken out of school to be homeschooled by his mother. After some radical accounts of homeschooling gone wrong, Americans currently tend to believe this form of education is of lesser quality than to that compared of public schooling. However, this alternative option is actually a plausible choice and in some areas, could even be considered more beneficial in regards to the long run. Homeschooling has come a long way, and with the support of the government, it has offered a better choice for Americans that feel that the public school system can't provide everything their children need. Assisted by online resources and ready–made homeschooling curriculum, homeschooling has become a popular choice with the number of students learning at home growing. Recently, many educated and qualified parents have been questioning the methods used by the public school system to teach their kids and have taken matters into their own hands. In 2008 the Californian government took measures insuring that the children being homeschooled would receive a quality education and enforced that all parents have the proper credentials to teach their children at home (Pacific Justice Institute–Michelle Malkin). These parents believe that by taking their children out of the public school ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 12. Alternative Energy : Renewable Energy For decades a certain problem has been slowly growing day–by–day. Today the problem has been more prevalent than ever before. In recent years the current energy usage, which is fossil fuels, is not sustainable and carries negative effects to the environment. However nothing is perfect, even renewable energy has its fair share of disadvantages. Can alternative (reusable) energy sources such as nuclear, hydrogen, biofuels or solar energy meet the energy demands needed by humans to carry out their everyday tasks such as electricity, commuting, and so on better than fossil fuels such as coal and oil which creates a mast amount of energy today. Fossil fuels are considered to be unsustainable, environmentally destructive, inefficient, and the primary contributor to global warming. It is estimated that about 88 percent of global energy is produced by burning fossil fuels5. Additionally, only 12 percent of global energy is produced by clean alternative energy sources5. It is time for individuals to think whether alternative energy can efficiently replace fossil fuels. Using alternative energy increases the nation's stability economically and environmentally, which reduces Canada and USA's dependency for foreign energy sources6. However, many technological difficulties must be analyzed and resolved before alternative energy can substitute even a small percentage of the power produced by fossil fuels. For example, an average solar panel can only achieve about 10–30 percent ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 14. Alternative Rock Music Music junkies, concert connoisseurs, and vinyl vigilantes everywhere need to know about the similarities and differences between the alternative rock and indie rock genres. The genres alternative and indie are terms sometimes used interchangeably, but their origins are indeed differing. There has been a varying progression of media platforms used to listen to these genres among the past few decades due to society's social and economic changes. In terms of instrumental progressions and technological buildups in the music world, the instruments and stylings used to define these genres has changed as well. According to the Oxford English Dictionary, alternative rock is defined as "a style of rock music characterized as unconventional, or outside the mainstream which resonated powerfully with a generation weathering an economic recession." Conversely, Oxford explains the term indie as "the deliberately unpolished or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I would choose to define alternative rock as music that has heavy metal influenced rhythms, with the use of electric guitars and bass drums, but conveys a lighter, upbeat feel, and uses meaningful lyrics. Alternative rock emerged in the late 80's and early 90's when the United States was facing an economic recession and in a post–war state. The songs alternative rock artists wrote during this time tended to be more melancholy in sound, and carry out the use of lyrics about the struggles society as a whole, and the artists as individuals were facing due to this social and economic decline. These lyrics were relatable for listeners and adequately helped them cope with the strife. These artists, more often than note were signed by more widely–known record labels. • 16. The Pros And Cons Of Alternative Schools "At risk" is a term that is frequently used to define students attending an alternative school. These students are "at risk" of a having a broad range of educational, behaviour and social issues along with dropping out of school completely (Carole G. Fuller and David A. Sabatino, 1996). The steady growth of youth attending alternative school has been supported by authors, researchers, organizations and even school boards for giving students who are/were "at–risk" in a mainstream school setting an alternative experience. (Carole G. Fuller and David A. Sabatino, 1996) Two researchers, Dynarski and Gleason (1998), made an argument concerning dropout prevention programs, with the focus on the populations of alternative schools with a different perspective. They found that students labeled at risk in their programs also had other concerns such as high academic achievement and high expectations for their future. Alternative schools and programs have evolved through the years to address a variety of student issues from within and outside the school environment. While the definitions of current alternative school and programs are varied, several common characteristics are among the options currently in existence (Young. T 1990). The students within alternative school require a specific education program that will provide them with their best chance at success. Programs that include individualized, flexible plans with clear expectations, an emphasis on student personal care, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 18. Community Service Activities Through The Alternative... Earlier this year, I saw the same homeless man sitting on the curb with all his belongings in a cart and his dog at his side. I saw him day in and day at the same curb with the same clothes and the same despaired look on his face for several months. I would often think to myself that I should probably give him some money or even the left over sandwich that I had from lunch that day, but I never actually did. Until one day, it dawned on me that it had been awhile since I've seen him. At first I found myself pondering the thought of what happened to him and if he was okay then I started to wonder what if I could have made a difference if I had done something different. I acknowledged that characteristic about myself early into the semester, so I decided to make a change. In order to transform that aspect of myself, I decided to do something. I took the liberty to sign up for several different community service activities through the Alternative Breaks Program at Florida International University that benefited the campus and the homeless. I wanted to take action and help the less fortunate. I want to help those individuals who don't have a warm bed to sleep on or clean clothes on their back. I want to be a lending hand for those in need. I feel sympathy for those individuals who have to suffer through a life with the bare minimum or even less than that. Alternative medicine is considered the use of any medicine out of the normal of what is considered conventional. "Alternative medicine was once considered the domain of snake oil charlatans and gullible consumers"(Waltman, et al 1). As the growing popularity of alternative medicines has increased, so has the number of groups and organizations set up to discover more about these medicines. One group that is set up to discover new findings in this field is the National Center for Complementary and Alterative Medicine and was started by a congressional mandate as a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The way alternative medicines work is if a person can find a need for something there is usually a cure or remedy out in the world. With alternative medicine being more and more a part of everyday life, doctors are beginning to use alternative as their main practice. Dr. Ken Bock says " with the advent of managed care, the average doctor visit is now seven minutes and people are turning to alternative practitioners to get the care they need"(Crone 2). This is helping because people are learning that they can find cures and solutions to their ailments that they once thought incurable. • 22. The Use Of Alternative Energy Sources Alternative energy sources can be implemented for house and car factories and any other facility you can imagine. The common known alternative energy sources are Hydroelectric Energy, Solar Energy, and Wind Energy. The potential energy stored in hydroelectric energy that is driving into a dam of water to make water turbines and generators. The energy that the earth receives from the sun is solar energy. Human civilization has started realizing how much harm they have already caused to the environment. Alternative Energy Sources helped people maintain balance of the nature without causing harm to conventional energy sources. Solar energy is a renewable form of energy will not deplete until thousands of years. It's solar power to a generation is very clean. Wind Energy is an effective alternative sources of energy in places where the velocity of the wind is high but is a very clean form of energy. But the wind is a renewable source of energy therefore it wouldn't make a big problem. The new alternative energy source is apart from commonly knowing that there have been recent advancements discovering to add of to the list of old alternative sources. Challenges by using the alternative energy sources are promised as the use of alternative sources of energy is under research to how to tap energy from other resources. Although the small powers of generation systems be brought into other places but the power generation from the resources on large scales are very challengeable with ... Traditional and Alternative Teaching Chapter 1 INTRODUCTION THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND It is well known that children learn in various ways and have their own individual styles and strategies. Some may enjoy group works, others individual works. Some may prefer teacher instructions with worksheets and firm direction, rather than self– generated research projects. There are numerous ways children learn, but how does the surrounding environment, affects a child's learning ability and influence the learning strategies that employ? Our society these days are divided into two different ways of thinking on the education. Cognitive Leaning Theory A founding father of Cognitive Learning Theory, GagnE (1985) contended that it is more realistic to assume that there are different kinds of learning, arranged in a hierarchy, with one sortbeing the prerequisite for the next. For example, solving an algebraic problem depends on understanding algebraic function, which depends on knowing basic mathematical skills and computations, which depends on recognizing simple numbers and symbols. For GagnE, simple conditioning only provided the basis for more advance kind of learning. He built on the behaviorist model by adding processing or cognitive component to Skinners' model. It's safe to say that the majority of people owning motor vehicles dislike the constant fluctuation in the price of oil and gasoline. The four worst polluters when it comes to the burning of fossil fuels are the United States, China, Japan, and Britain (Editorial par. 3). At the rate at which it is rising now, vehicles are soon going to be a luxury because people will not be able to afford the price of fuel. One possible solution to this problem, and many other instances that rely on the burning of fossil fuels, is the use of renewable energy sources. Two of the more notable energies are solar ... The technology that the world possesses today is underdeveloped when referring to solar and wind energy. The research needed for the extensive use of wind and solar energy should be a priority for today's world because it will reduce the monetary cost of energy in the long run, decrease the negative effects of burning fossil fuels on our atmosphere, and preserve the natural resources of the Earth. To begin, the use of solar energy is not something new that has been recently discovered. Solar power has been utilized in many different ways dating back to the ancient Egyptians. Surprising as it is, we utilize the power today in similar ways to what the Egyptians used it for. Common uses of solar energy are drying objects such as clothing and other necessities and growing crops (Solar Energy par. 6). The broad use of solar energy continues to arise in many different and unique ways. However, when the fuel supplies for these devices run out, they will grind to a halt. To prevent this, the United States needs to find an alternative to unstable and polluting energy sources before it's too late (Rouge). It also needs to advance in technological status in order to stay above advancing third– world countries, and retain its current level of hegemony (Glaser). Zhiyuan Li Philosophy 3000 Frankfurt Without Counter–Examples: An Alternative Possibility Harry Frankfurt (1969) argues that the principle of alternative possibilities (PAP): (PAP) a person is morally responsible for what he has done only if he could have done otherwise (829) is false, because there are cases where a person is morally responsible for what she has done even if she could not have done otherwise (835–6). Call such cases Frankfurt–style cases. A lot of literature thereafter has been targeted on these Frankfurt–style cases, particularly whether it's really possible to construct them. Among critics of Frankfurt, David Widerker (2003) takes one step further and he grants, for the sake of his argument, that it is possible to construct Frankfurt–style cases ; however, he argues that even so, Frankfurt's argument still fails because there are counter–examples to Frankfurt–style cases, which are in favor of PAP (60–2). This paper is a defense of Frankfurt. Having said that, however, I think Widerker has developed a very strong criticism of Frankfurt which in some sense takes away his prima facie intuition. Therefore, it seems to me not enough for defenders of Frankfurt to respond by just refuting the counter–examples Widerker provides against Frankfurt–style cases – they must somehow bring their intuition back. Most farm animals eat corn but because corn is being converted into ethanol, the price of animal living has gone up causing meat to be more expensive. This will become a permanent chain reaction if ethanol becomes an authorized source of energy produced to the general public. Sean Byrne writes in "Green Living May Mean Cold Comfort for Many", that "although requiring vast tracts of land ... biomass crops to produce ethanol not only use almost as much energy as they produce, they also may contribute significantly to world hunger." Ethanol will be very costly because corn is known as a crop grown for rations, so when a produce becomes a power supply, the market worth will significantly amplify. Ethanol does not have many benefits to the world population. It causes increased world hunger because all corn crops are used in creating ethanol and also is inefficient because it depletes the same amount of energy it creates. When corn could be raised in huge quantities, it was reasonable to use ethanol. Now that corn is not plentiful, it costs more to produce ethanol. Using it was no problem because of this abundant amount but since then, the amount of corn being produced has lessened causing it to become more and more expensive. Unfortunately, there were a significant amount of obstacles that it has had to overcome, or that it is still having to overcome. The obstacles range from the lack of efficiency of alternative energy, fossil fuels being more efficient than alternative energy, and the subpar technological advancements. There are situations where alternative energy is useful and should be considered. Although alternative energy has not always been a reliable energy source, today it is more efficient than in the past, and is a clean alternative to fossil fuels. There are an abundant amount of alternative energy sources, nevertheless there are certainly ones that are more practical and efficient than others depending on the user of said energy source. A few of the more popular alternative energy sources include methods of generating energy such as solar power, hydropower, and wind power. While it is not entirely possible for each of these alternative energy sources to be used by individuals who are looking to use them for their personal gain, it is not uncommon to see industrial use of these energy sources. • 44. Alternative Sources Of Alternative Energy Sources What are alternative energy sources ? Alternative energy sources are forms of energy that use natural resources to produce energy. There are three main alternative energy sources that can be used in the place of fossil fuels, which are Nuclear, Solar, Wind, and Hydroelectric. Fossil fuels such as coal, oil, and gas are decreasing and eventually will run out. Usage of fossil fuels cause harm to the environment by producing greenhouse gasses. Alternative energy sources are not harmful to the environment. Some countries are trying out alternative energy sources to reduce the dependence of fossil fuels, but its still not enough. If more alternative sources are used we could turn this planet into a much a much safer place. Its important that we make use of alternative sources everywhere before its to late. Why are they termed "non renewable" ? Similar to fossil fuels, Nuclear energy has also been termed as a non–renewable energy source. This is because it can not be recreated after being used. Unlike Nuclear energy, Wind, Solar, and Hydroelectric are known as renewable sources. These three are considered renewable because they can be replenished over time from the Earth's natural processes. This is vital because these sources would never run out, as long as the Earth's environmental cycle is still intact. • 46. Alternative Sources Of Alternative Energy Sources Alternative Energy Sources Air pollution, resulting from the burning of fossil fuels, amounts for about 7 million deaths each year. On average, 1 in 8 deaths are caused by some type of air pollution. Fossil fuels are burned every day to keep the world functioning but are accompanied by tremendous amounts of pollution. The world needs energy sources that are as effective as fossil fuels but that come with less harmful pollutants than fossil fuels do. An effort must be made to pull away from harmful fossil fuels and to switch over to cleaner energy sources such as solar power, wind power, and geothermal power. Switching over to cleaner energy is very important because of the eminent threat of global warming that lurks just around the corner. If humans are not careful, they will damage the environment and the atmosphere to a point beyond repair. Major factories and cities can begin to convert to cleaner energy sources and cut back on pollution tremendously. They can do this by harnessing energy from the sun, utilizing frequent gusts of wind, and by tapping into the heat of the Earth's core. Fossil fuels such as coal, oil, and natural gas account for roughly 85 percent of total energy that is used in the United States. In 2010 the leading renewable energy sources were hydro–electric, wind, bioenergy, geothermal, and solar Photo Voltaic (PV)[1]. Of these, hydroelectric made up 82% of the renewable resource energy generation, while the other means all contributed about equally. These relationships can be seen clearly in the table below. These drawbacks often make a hydroelectric dam impractical, and as a result cannot be the only form of renewable energy that we consider bringing into a smart grid. After hydroelectric, the next leading energy producer is the wind turbine. In 2015, wind turbines across the United States generated roughly 226 billion kilowatt–hours of electricity[3]. Wind turbines raise many different concerns from hydroelectric power sources because of how differently these sources create electricity. The wind turbine operates by transforming the kinetic energy of the wind into electricity using a generator turned by the turbine blades. The most notable difference in performance between these sources is that, unlike hydroelectric dams, which can in impractical or simply impossible in some places in the world, the wind turbine is acceptable anywhere that wind is present. Though wind can be found everywhere, there is a significant issue that the wind does not blow to match the demand for electricity. This means there are three states that these systems can operate in. Should the turbines be permitted to spin freely, they could produce more electricity than is needed, or if it were a calm day, electricity demands could outweigh the amount of electricity produced. Although earth is becoming a living hell, it is't too late to save it; with logical and creative solutions earth might survive. One of the most promising solutions in order to save earth is perhaps using alternative fueled cars. Even though ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Furthermore, there are more to the issues with batteries; most batteries are relatively expansive. According to cleantechnica.com the prices vary from 2,000 US Dollars to 3,000; thus, customers have to keep in mind that they might need to replace their batteries once or twice, so it requires at least 5,000 dollars of investment. In addition, most batteries are very large and heavy which is a disadvantage for the aggressiveness of the car since it slows it down. This might not be a big issue for some people; however, there are performance enthusiasts who seek pace in their vehicles; perhaps all–electric vehicles aren't the best option for them. As a conclusion, all–electric vehicles are designed perfectly to give at least damage as possible to nature unless the electricity required to run the vehicles is produced by non eco–friendly power plants, but there are plent of power plants that use sun, wind, water and nuclear energy in order to get electricity, and their numbers are constantly rising throughout the world. The only downside of all–electric vehicles is certainly the battery; whereas, most people are optimistic about this issue as fueleconomy.gow states, " However, researchers are working on improved battery technologies to increase driving range and decrease recharging time, weight, and cost. These factors will ultimately determine the future of EVs." Another promising ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 64. Complementary And Alternative Therapies Discuss the various methods of complementary and alternative therapies. CAMS are divided into five different categories: biological, manipulative–body, mind–body, energy, and alternative medicine. For example, dance therapy would fall under the manipulative–body based interventions, while mind–body interventions encompass alternatives like poetry, art, or music, and yoga would be an example of mind–body interventions and manipulative–body. Participants in music therapy have reported improved quality of life, and yoga therapy has been shown to lead individuals towards motivation to health improvement. As well, dance therapy has been proven to improve body image, coordination, body awareness, depression, anxiety, and stress relief; as well, sexual abuse survivors have used dance therapy to reconnect with their body by coping and processing, as well as give them a sense of freedom from their trauma (Complementary and Integrative, n.d.). ... Hippotherapy is equine, or horse, therapy and is very common in special needs children, particularly those with autism. In conjunction with traditional therapies and treatment plans, it is proven to be very effective in regards to posture, gross motor skills, fine motor skills, as well as body and cognitive awareness. There is also extensive research done looking at how coping and communication skills improved in individuals since the start of hippotherapy (Ajzenman, Shurtleff, & Standeven, ... • 66. Essay about Alternative Medicine Alternative Medicine Although "Alternative" or "Complementary" medicine has been kept on the fringes of the medical sciences in the past, it is becoming increasingly more popular, and more reputable. Alternative medicines are those medical systems which are not taught to or practiced by most conventional medical doctors. Alternative medicines seemingly have always existed, changing and conforming to the current climate of society. There seems to be an almost endless number of alternative medicines, each with their own method of gaining perfect health. Often people who are dissatisfied with conventional medicine turn to alternative medicine for their medical needs. Many similarities link the diverse extremities of alternative medicine. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The scientific community is much quicker to label this second type as quacks, whereas the scientific community has failed to gain a consensus on the legitimacy of the first type. Unfortunately, both are encompassed by the term alternative medicine. This paper will focus on the more controversial alternative medicines described in the first group. By examining some of the most popular, enduring alternative medical systems, one can begin to see some general trends of the systems, understand some recurring flaws, and understand the attraction and usefulness of alternative medicine in today's health care system. However, alternative medicine remains controversial. Whether it can be supported scientifically or not, alternative medicine may be useful to encourage both physical and mental well–being via a placebo effect. For this reason, alternative medicine must be considered by physicians as a complement to modern medicine. Description of alternative medical systems (including a brief history and background): Chiropractic treatment: Chiropractic is one of the most respected and most prominent of alternative medicine practices. Although many people would only consider visiting a chiropractor for the alleviation of pain caused by musculoskeletal problems, chiropractic beliefs involve much more than just muscle manipulation. Just over a century ago, Daniel David Palmer claimed to have cured both deafness ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 68. Alternatives Of Alternative Energy : Alternative Sources... Alternate Sources of Energy Energy is something we rely on every day. It heats our houses, charges our phones and in some cases even our cars. In most instances, this energy is harnessed from large power plants in the area who rely on nuclear fission to create their power. However, there are many other alternative sources of energy that are still being used all the time such as tidal, solar or geothermal. These alternate energy sources are being improved every day and should be looked into by families and communities that could benefit from them, and that's what will be focused here. It is these sources that will be focused on here. One extremely popular source of alternate energy is solar. This energy has been around for a large sum of years and is quite well known as solar panels are being installed on buildings and houses every day. Solar power relies on the enormous amount of energy that comes from the sun in the form of heat and light. This energy arrives in packets called photons, which hit the atoms in solar cells placed on houses and open fields. These photons knock out the electrons which then flow through the cell's circuit, this, in turn, creates electricity (Figure 1). An electrical panel attached to the circuit then transfers this energy into the house to power lights and appliances. The reason this method of creating power is so popular is due to its many evident advantages. One of which includes the environmental benefits solar panels have. These benefits ... • 70. Alternative Energy Sources Alternative Energy Sources "In United States around half of million deaths each year are attributed to air pollution. It is estimated that air pollution each day kills three people in the city of Hong Kong. Air pollution also contributes to soil and water pollution. More than 15,000 people in the world die each day because of water pollution" (pollutionfacts.com). With these statistics, it is no wonder people are coming up with alternative energy sources. From energy to gasoline, there are many different ways to reduce these statistics. Some alternatives to energy sources are solar and wind power, alternative vehicle fuels and hybrid cars. Photovoltaic solar electricity, or more commonly known as solar power, is an alternative energy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... "There is considerable interest in electric and hybrid cars because of environmental and climate change concerns, tougher fuel efficiency standards, and increasing dependence on imported oil" (Deal). Hybrid and electric cars are a way to reduce our carbon footprint. Many vehicle manufacturers are beginning to jump into the hybrid car craze. Some of the most popular hybrid cars are the Toyota Prius, Honda Insight and Ford Fusion. There is also the electric car that relies solely on electricity to get from point A to point B. the downside to these cars however is that they only get about 100 miles before needing to be recharged. Hybrids are different because they rely on a mixture of two sources, electricity and gasoline. Hybrids can get further than electric cars because of this reason. Electric and hybrid cars have a special braking system called regenerative braking. Regenerative braking causes the car to recharge the battery whenever the car is coasting or completely stopped. this helps maintain the car's battery life. Charging these batteries can take a while, some even take more than eight hours! While the popularity of hybrids and electric vehicles are on the rise, many people still drive a good– old fashioned gasoline car. Whereas driving a normal car will not be as environmentally friendly as the hybrid of electrics, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 72. Alternative Energy In The United States In the United States, major fossil–fuel–burning energy–producing industries dominate: they are more widely used, they produce more energy, and they severely harm the environment. I believe that the United States should move towards alternative energies that don't burn fossil fuels to produce energy, such as solar, wind, geothermal, and hydroelectric power, because they, despite their currently high price point, provide large amounts of pollution free–energy, which will increase energy independence due to their ability to easily produce electricity within the nation and create amounts of electricity competitive to those of conventional energies. Alternative energies, "energy sources which are not based on the burning of fossil fuels or the splitting of atoms," (qtd. in "What Are Alternative") are a controversial issue in the United States today. Because of their cost and existence that goes against normal American energy standards, efficient forms of alternative energy generation, like solar, wind, hydroelectric, and geothermal energy generation have faced a bit of a social stigma in the past, where people associate those who use alternative energies to be either hippies or hipsters. Because of their general unpopularity, alternative energies have seen little use in America, with the country heavily relying on more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 74. Alternative Energy Are alternative energy sources the answer to ending human dependence on oil? September 24, 2012 Are alternative energy sources the answer to ending human dependence on oil? Right now there is no one substitute for oil because we use it for a variety of things. We can use alternative sources in areas to preserve or conserve our usage of oil. We use to use wood for fires and light. Then in the industrial revolution we began to use coal. "Coal can provide much more energy over longer periods than wood or any other biomass product. Forests were also diminishing in many regions because they were being consumed for fuel." (Eric McLamb). Edwin L. Drake drilled the world's first oil well in 1859 and launched the petroleum industry. Solar panels take up a lot of space but they don't need to. You can put PV on your roof, the roof of your business, garages, covered bridges and tunnels. If you decided not to do any of these the entire U.S. could be powered by using 4/10 of one percent of U.S. land (http://www.geokingsolar.com/faq_pv.html#Q50). This is mainly because the technology has improved so much. There is still the issue of places that don't get a lot of sunlight, such as Alaska where it is dark half of the year. I'm sure in the years to come we will find a way to either use our existing power lines or create new ones to allow us to power areas that get less light with those that get more sunlight. Wind turbines require a lot of space and a lot of turbines to produce power but who says they have to be on land. Horns Rev 1 located in Denmark is one of the world's largest off shore wind farms. • 76. Compare And Contrast Alternative And Alternative Medicine Alternative medicine refers to the practices that are different from the conventional approach in the field of medicine. Usually, the methods used in alternative medicine got its founding principles on the philosophies that are opposite of those in modern–day medicine. In addition, it also integrates the use of spiritual practices, new approaches, or pre–modern medical traditions in the healing process. Alternative health care is a holistic way of caring for our body, mind and spirit. It is called alternative because it offers a way of caring for our health that is not conventional or what we are used to in the Western world. In the Western world caring for our health is done mostly by the administration of medicines, many of which are synthetic, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But with the advent of these drugs we gradually forgot alternative health care in favor of conventional medicine. One reason was that conventional medicine was fast and predictable. You do not have to search for the herb and boil it and make a concoction out of it. You just go to the drugstore, present the prescription your doctor gave you, receive the medicine from the pharmacist or his/her aide and pay for it. Upon reaching home, you just take the medicine. It is so convenient. But the recent experience of people taking conventional drugs is that they may lead to dependence on these drugs and larger doses may be required upon subsequent intakes. Furthermore there are bad effects in taking these drugs. These happen especially with antibiotic drugs. So people began to look for alternative ways of healing, one that is not heavily dependent on synthetic drugs and one that heals body, soul and spirit so that the person really become whole. The natural gas alternative aids in the contribution in reducing the United States reliance on foreign oil and has the potential to become a star if more resources are focused into this technology for consumer based vehicles. A company by the name of Air Liquide, recently stated that in collaboration with Toyota, an entirely integrated hydrogen fueling framework would be implemented in the United States (Fuel Cells Bulletin, 2014).Toyota is involved with the project due to the recent release of the Mirai model which runs on hydrogen. "Hydrogen has great potential to provide clean energy. Used in the fuel cell, hydrogen combines with oxygen from the air to produce electricity, with water as the only by–product" (Fuel Cells Bulletin, 2014). The Mirai is the turning point for the automotive sector according to Wardlaw. The vehicle had more than twenty years of research and development prior to its release. The author argues that the technology is here and ready for mass consumption, but that the only piece missing is the infrastructure (Wardlaw, 2015). In response to the issues with infrastructure, Toyota has opened up its patents on the technology as a means of increasing collaboration with hydrogen technology (Fuel Cells Bulletin, 2014).
