1. Market Research Survey Results
This market research was conducted to collect quantitative data on people’s opinions on various
qualities of magazines through the use of an online questionnaire sent to 26 people via email. The
questionnaire was sent to mainly 16 – 18 year olds. I will use the answers to this market research to
create a music magazine that will appeal to target audience based on the answers to these
questions.

The majority of the people who completed this questionnaire proved to be
female with 15 females and 11 male. This suggests that I should aim my
magazine equally to both males and females as the results were almost
evenly split.
The results for my questionnaire
found out that the most common
ages were 15-16 and 17–18. When creating my magazine I
will focus on a teenage age range from 15-18 as that will be
the age of my target audience.

magazines, the
majority of the participants responded between
moderately often to never. 9 people out of the 26 said
they never read magazines. When making my magazine I
will try to encourage the sales by making it appeal to the
target audience by possibly offering a cheap online
subscription to an app based magazine, in which they will
receive a paper copy through the post. I think this would
influence sales and appeal to the target audience more.
The most popular genres of music were found
to be Indie/Alternative with 14 points, hip-hop
9 points. These results suggest that I should
aim my magazine towards these genres as they
are the most popular choices, meaning more
people would be tempted to purchase the
magazine because it appeals to the majority. I
may also feature articles on some of the less
popular genres to introduce the reader to new
music.

My questionnaire results show that the majority of the
participants find out about new music through either
YouTube or the radio. 0 people said that they found out
about new music through magazines. When making my
magazine, I’d like to introduce people to new, up and
coming artists and feature articles about big hits on
YouTube that may interest the reader. I think this idea
would hopefully increase the way people can discover
new music effectively.

The preferred price the
participants were willing to pay for a magazine was found to be
between £3.00 and £4.99. When designing my magazine, I will
ensure that the price is within this category or slightly below to
satisfy the target audience and promote sales.

In the online questionnaire, I asked where people usually
purchased music from. The results show that the majority
download illegally from the internet with 13 people out of 26.
The next most popular way to purchase music proved to be
iTunes. When designing magazines, I will advertise iTunes and
the prices of CD’s within the magazine to influence people to
purchase music instead of downloading illegally off the
internet.
When asked how often people looked for new music,
most participants’ answered varied between once and
month to every day. This proves that the music industry is
still increasingly popular and suggests that making a music
magazine will appeal to the target audience. Within my
magazine, I will promote new artists and tracks to keep
the reader up to date and informed with the new
releases.

When asked how people listen to music, the majority of the
participants responded with their iPod, with 72% of the pie
chart. The second most popular proved to be the internet.
Therefore, when creating my magazine I will advertise iTunes
and websites such as YouTube as these are the most common
tools people use to listen to music.
