Question 6
1. 6 What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?
2. Whilst constructing this magazine I have learnt how to maximise the range of shots I can get to enhance the impact on the audience. I have done this by approaching the desired model from different angles, for example low angled shots, high angled shots, diagonal and slanted shots. I have also discovered a useful method which is to take lots of different shots and decide which ones are suitable when you come to edit them as shots can be more effective when brought up on a computer and vice versa. I have also learnt how to position a setting in the lens before taking the shot in order to visualise how it will look in a magazine environment.
3. With regards to Photoshop this process has been a big learning curve for me. I have learnt many techniques and encountered many different problems that I have had to overcome. I used Photoshop to create my front cover and my magazine logo which was carried throughout the whole magazine. I used the level adjustments and effects to give a professional impression and give images vibrancy, this was relatively straight forward, as I had the scope to experiment, but could make all the difference. I also used the shape tools to create new and innovative shapes like the guitar shocker and manipulated this using the effects tools to apply things like a bevel and emboss, drop shadow, outer glow and much more. These effects brought my cover to life. I also learnt how to use the red eye tool which was very useful.
4. I used InDesign to create my contents page, double page spread and a form of bringing all three element together. For In Design in particular I learnt how to do basic things like applying simple effects like a stroke or a drop shadow up to more complex elements like transferring a logo or design from Photoshop into InDesign and manipulating that so that it fits nicely in my existing design. I learnt how to create a frame within a frame which was particularly useful for my main contents image, I also used shape tools to give the impression that this was an amplifier. Finally, I have learnt how to create specific sections initially then elaborate on these sections by building layers and applying effects to get an overall finished product.
5. Whilst creating my magazine and uploading regularly I have been introduced to a number of websites and methods to enable do so effectively by presenting my work in a variety of ways. Scribd has been useful as i have been able to upload a word document quickly and fairly easily in bulk, although I did face a tricky problem as I couldn't upload multiple Scribd documents onto my blog like the majority of the class, but through persistence and determination i found a way of doing it. I had to embed the code but instead of html I used a flash code. Blogger is at the heart of all of these websites as this is where the all lead. I have experienced a few difficulties but i have overcome them and learnt more about the site. I have learnt how to upload images, embed codes and change the date of when a document has been uploaded in order to change the position of certain documents on my blog. Slideshare has been useful when dealing with PowerPoint as it has enabled me to upload PowerPoint presentations to my blog my embedding the html code and then displaying my work how it is intended.
6. The general use of the internet has sharpened my skills and the different forms of uploading and different sites has required me adapt quickly, in turn, improving my general knowledge of the internet and helping me maximise my usage of the internet. I have used the internet for inspiration when producing my magazine and as a useful means of research when planning my production. Overall I have learnt allot about various different forms of technology throughout the process and I hope to continue learning at this fast pace in order to maximize my potential.
