2. INTRODUCTION
• convulsion is a medical condition where
body muscles contract and relax rapidly and repeatedly,
resulting in an uncontrolled shaking of the body.
• Problems like Convulsions in newborn babies, feeding
problems,muscle tone disorders etc…..
3. GRAY BABY SYNDROME
• Gray baby syndrome (also termed Gray or Grey
syndrome) is a rare but serious side effect that occurs in
newborn infants (especially premature babies) following
the accumulation of antibiotic chloramphenicol.
4. SIGNS&SYMPTOMS
• Loss of appetite
• Vomiting
• Ashen gray color of the skin
• Hypotension (low blood pressure)
• Cyanosis (blue discolouration of lips and skin)
• Hypothermia
• Cardiovascular collapse
• Hypotonia
5. • Hypertonia is a term sometimes used synonymously
with spasticity in the literature surrounding damage to
the central nervous system, namely upper motor neuron
lesions. Impaired ability of damaged motor neurons to
regulate descending pathways gives rise to
disordered spinal reflexes, increased excitability of muscle
spindles, and decreased synaptic inhibition
6. • Hypotonia, commonly known as floppy baby syndrome, is
a state of low muscle tone (the amount of tension or
resistance to stretch in a muscle), often involving reduced
muscle strength. Hypotonia is not a specific medical
disorder, but a potential manifestation of many different
diseases and disorders that affect motor nerve control by
the brain or muscle strength
7. • Fetal defecation of meconium while in utero during labor.
It may cause staining of the amniotic fluid or of the infant
is known as meconium staining
8. ICD-10-CM GUIDELINES
• Convulsions of newborn- P90

• Reactions and intoxications due to drugs administered to
newborn- P93
