Behavior refers to purposive responses that people have when interacting with their environment. A person's social behavior is shaped through continuous reciprocal interaction with others around them and with their environmental situation. Organizational behavior analyzes how organizational participants behave within an organizational environment and is concerned with understanding, predicting, and controlling human behavior in organizations. Behavioral science scientifically studies human behavior by exploring personal experiences, social expression of self, and behavioral peculiarities, contexts, and developments through a combination of anthropology, sociology, and psychology.
1. WHAT IS BEHAVIOR
The term behavior refers to purposive response. It means that when a person while
interacting purposefully in an environment produces result is called as behavior.
Social behavior of a person is the product of continuous reciprocal interaction
between him and others around. It signifies his knowledge and will to act in a
particular environmental situation. The person and the environmental situation do not
function as independent units but in conjunction with the behavior itself, reciprocally
interacts to determine behavior.

2. ACCORDING TO ALBERT BANDURA
“It is largely through their actions that people produce the
environmental conditions that effect their behavior in a
reciprocal fashion. The experience generated by behavior
also partly determine what a person becomes and can do,
which in turn affects the subsequent behavior”.
So, Behavior = Function (Participant X Environment)
So, B= F (P X E)
3. WHAT IS ORGANIZATIONAL BEHAVIOR
OB may be described as functions of organizational
participants (employees) into an organizational environment. It
refers to behavioral approach to management.
Prof Larry Cumings has described as it is a way of
CONCEIVING PROBLEMS, ARTICULATING RESEARCH and
ACTION SOLUTIONS with reference to:
a)Suitable behavioral model to search for cause & effect
b) Cause a structural change (in the organization) or a
desirable outcome &
c)Humanize work-climate for self development, personal
growth and self actualization.
OB is directly concern with the understanding, prediction &
control of human behavior in organization.
