Personality
1.
2. Picking up the theme of behavior, this has two
classes of determinants: personality and
environment
BEHAVIOR (B) = F [PERSONALITY (P),
ENVIRONMENT (E)]
Personality variables represent internal causes of
behavior, while environmental variables are
external causes
3. Personality: A person’s unique and relatively
stable behavior patterns; the consistency of who
you are, have been, and will become
Character: Personal characteristics that have
been judged or evaluated
Temperament: Hereditary aspects of personality,
including sensitivity, moods, irritability, and
adaptability
Personality Trait: Stable qualities that a person
shows in most situations
Personality Type: People who have several traits
in common
4. Personality is not determined by a single
factor, but by an accumulation of many
factors. Some of those factors are
psychological, while others are physical,
biological, and hereditary. I have compiled
some of the most influential factors when it
comes to determinants of personality.
5. The environment that an individual lives in has a
major impact on his personality. The culture and
environment establish attitudes, values, norms and
perceptions in an individual. Based on the cultures
and traditions, different senses of right and wrong
are formed in individuals. These environmental
factors also include the neighbourhood a person
lives in, his school, college, university and
workplace. Moreover, it also counts the social circle
the individual has. Friends, parents, colleaguesco-
workers and bosses, everybody plays a role as the
determinants of personality
6. Although these factors do not literally create
and shape up an individual‘s personality,
situational factors do alter a person‘s behaviour
and response from time to time. The situational
factors can be commonly observed when a
person behaves contrastingly and exhibits
different traits and characteristics. For example,
a person‘s behaviour will be totally different
when he is in his office, in front of his boss,
when compared to his hangout with old friends
in a bar
