SUNMARKE TIMES
My opening sequence genre
is horror, I made a research
on this genre through a
questionnaire to ask people
about what they specially like
about this genre and what
they would want to see. For a
genre like horror I needed to
include a lot of conventions
like the sounds and the
locations. My research
teached me to decide
precisely about what decision
I will take concerning my
conventions.
I used conventions like in
setting I used isolated areas
which in my case was a
school corridor after the
school day has already
finished. For the sound I used
a loud volume soundtrack
with high bites to create more
suspense to attract people’s
attention, in cinematography
styles I used close-up shots
to express the characters
emotions and feelings toward
the actions happening. I did
not include dialogue as this is
typical in horror movies. I
wanted the scene to be in
complete silence in addition
only to the creepy soundtrack
in the background which will
help in creating theme and
will make audience
concentrate and focus more
on what is happening through
the shot. The costume was
related to the location as the
protagonist was having after
school classes, the
protagonist was a teenage
girl which is also a stereotype
of most horror movies that
teenage girls are victims, in
addition to that this character
would create an emotional
link with the audience that will
be worried about her. And
concerning her costume she
was in school so she had to
be wearing the school
uniform.
The purpose of any opening
sequence no matter what is
to attract audience’s attention
to make them eager wanting
to watch more and to want to
know more about the
characters appearing .The
purpose of my opening scene
is to hook the audience to
watch more and wanting to
continue watching the whole
film, as well as the main
purpose of a horror movie
which is to scare the person
watching. I have used a lot of
enigma in my opening scene
as i believe that this is the
main thing that attracts the
person watching and also the
title was (Have We Met?!) as
i believe that a title in a form
of a question will make the
audience want to know more
about the film. The star
billing was clear as the
protagonist was the girl and
as soon she appeared her
name appeared on the
screen and it was mentioned
again with the ghost in the
credits at the end in addition
to the production company.
Characters represented in
the film are 2 characters a girl
and a ghost which was her
friend in school , this is
evident in this scene as the
girl is seeing the ghost of her
friend that is dead a long time
ago which is the main hook.
The girl was represented
entering through the school
doors into the corridor and
through the soundtrack that
indicated that she is the
victim and something
unexpected would happen.
And the ghost was
represented as the villain.
