1. Location Planning
Another location I plan to use is a house. In
many hip-hop/R&B songs, they are set out in
houses as most songs are based upon
relationships. Using a house as a location fits
in with our genre as it has been used in songs
such as ‘Touch My Body- Mariah Carey’,
‘Tipsy- J Kwon’, ‘Wonderful- Ashanti’. I would
like to include rooms such as the kitchen and
bedroom as these are the main rooms shown
in hip-hop/R&B music videos. The bedroom is
also a romantic place which helps to connote
the passion between the characters.
One of the locations I chose to use for our
music video is an open field or park with long
grass. As the song starts of slow and is
based on the artist singing her opinion out, I
thought an open field would be a good place
to capture her emotions and thoughts. Fields
and outdoor areas are also used in hip-
hop/R&B music videos such as ‘I’ll Be
Missing You- Puff Daddy’. A field or park is
also a secluded place which helps to
represent romance and privacy within a
relationship, which fits in with the genre.
A green screen will be used to show the artist in
a white room. This will be one of our locations
as it is a typical location used in many hip-
hop/R&B music videos. A white background is
mainly used to show the artist by themselves
singing or dancing. This will be useful for us as
we plan to make our music video a narrative and
the white background helps us in showing the
artist’s emotions.
