My Pyramid Research Paper
My pyramid is a guideline that helps you understand the proper nutrition your body should be receiving. It is broke up into 5 different categories.
These categories are fruits, vegetables, grains, proteins and dairy. My pyramid helps consumers by teaching them how to make healthier, smarter food
choices in regards to their diet. The milk, yogurt and cheese group according to the pyramid gives your body the right amount of calcium rich foods
that is needed for your body. The two importantfood guides based on the food guidance system are the USDA food guide and the DASH eating plan.
The seven chronic diseases in the U.S. that are linked to risk factors due to diets are obesity, stroke, osteoporosis, dental disease, diabetes, cancer and

My pyramid food guidance system shows foods to eat in order to stay healthy along with encouraging people to stay or become active. The 11
primary lists in the 2007 food exchange list is as follows, 1. Sweet, dessert, carbohydrate, 2. Starch, 3. Milk, 4. Fat, 5. Fast food, 6. Combination, 7. Free
food, 8. Alcohol. 9. Fruit, 10. Vegetables, 11. Meat and meat substitutes.
Three approved food guides you would use when assessing, planning, or evaluating a client's diet is the food exchange list, my pyramid, and the
dietary guidelines for Americans.
Yes I did have the number of servings from the five major food groups that are right for me according to my pyramid. For my calorie level I was at
below maintenance because I do eat healthy but I am not putting enough calories into my body over a 24 hour period. This is because I really do
not eat a whole lot every day. It depends on how I feel that day. The number of servings I ate was less than I should be consuming for my age and
gender. I should be consuming around 2,200 calories a day according to the chart because I am very active. I do need to really increase the amount of
calories I consume each

Health In Ancient Greece
Greece is a continent located in Europe that over 130,647 square kilometer. The language of Greece is Modern Greek. The capital is Athens which is
also the political center of Greece. Greece also has many customs and traditions throughout their culture. Many of their customs are similar to that in the
USA. In the healthcare environment, it is important to know the different cultures and the considerations that people have when providing care to a
patient. Knowing the culture variations will help determine the type of care needed and what types of ailments provide the most therapeutic response.
This allows the nurse to respond to a patient culture and also maintain the patient's respect and dignity for making decisions. Many of these decisions
even involve the meals they eat. Many people here in America use our time to eat as a social activity.Greece has a similar aspect of mealtime as well.

Although the diet is mostly a well balanced one, there can be an overconsumption of these foods that can cause obesity. Some Greeks also don't
exercise which could lead to heart problems and obesity as well. Also Greeks eat at later times of the day which can also lead to obesity since they
are consuming meals closer to bedtime. There are also greeks that only consume fruits and veggies, so they lack the vitamin B12. Lack of the vitamin
B12 can lead to Pernicious Anemia. Many eggs, dairy products, and meats have vitamin B12 however , if they are only consuming vegetable and fruits
then they are missing that important element in their diet that could lead to Pernicious Anemia. It is important for the nurse to observe the Greece diet
and see what cultural considerations as well as health considerations should be adjusted to meet the needs of the patient. Also the nurse should be sure
that the diet is balanced while still staying within the culture of foods that people from Greece

Pryamid Research Paper
Before I red the nutrtion chapter, specifically the MyPyramid section, I never payed much attention to the food pryamid. I was not aware as to
how in depth the illistration was. I believe the pryamid is a great outine for a healthy diet. If people need guidance as to how to lead a healthier
lifestyle, the pryamid is the perfect example. It not only explains how much of each food group you should eat, but also explains excercising, which
I believe is just as important. Although I do think the pryamid is a good guide for people who may not know a lot about diets, I tend to eat more
proteins and fruits than reccomended. As an athlete I find I need more proteins to keep my energy level high. I also drink a lot of water. A vegitarian

Pros And Cons Of Fast Food
Fast food is becoming more common as the years pass us. The convenience and time saving that come with fast food make it that much more desirable.
"Research has documented that low–income urban youth are at risk for obesity and related health problems." (Issner, J.H., Mucka, L.E. & Barnett, D.
J Child Fam Stud (2017) 26: 548) But with fast food comes its pros and cons, and placing it in schools can be very detrimental. There is a big
debacle on if schools should sell fast food or not. With how things would have been done in the past, it seems that we shouldn't change something that
has been going well for so long. On another note, though schools are always looking for new ways to cut costs. Schools should not offer fast food as

2009)." (International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health, 14(10), 1255.) By consuming large amounts of fast food daily, our bodies
do not get the recommended nutrition we need. For children, this is because they are still growing and they need a lot more to help their bodies
perform daily tasks. By developing a dependency on high saturated fats and little nutrients, they become accustomed to eating poorly and a higher
risk of becoming obese and developing health concerns over time. Children are smart and learn by example, if they are taught that it is ok to consume
unhealthy choices daily, it will become a lot harder later on to take control of the choices they make especially when their health is on the line. The
most significant example is we teach students health in schools and making right decisions and by contradicting this and feeding them fast food would
make our curriculum wrong by not setting a good example. Children need healthier options to help with their active lifestyles. They need energy for
learning and improving their bodies be set up for success versus being lethargic and non–engaged. By consuming fast food, you are not receiving the

Question 1 (3 pts): Clients will often approach the RD, bewildered as to how to select, plan, and prepare a healthy diet for themselves or their
families. Using yourself as an example, discuss the six basic principles of diet planning and how they apply to your dietary intake.
Answer 1: Preparing and eating health meals for me and my family can be difficult with our busy schedule, but it starts with a plan. Using the 6
principles of diet planning I start with adequacy. I accomplish this by writing out a grocery list of all the things my family will need for the week. I
also shop weekly because we prefer fresh fruit and vegetables. Next, I make sure we have an even balance of foods. I write out meal plans for the week

Answer 2: The dietary guidelines for Americans in 2010 have 4 main points. Starting with balancing calories to manage weight. With in this section it
talks about how to maintain calorie control, intake, and balance. Also, is talks about physical activity and keeping active to maintain a healthy weight.
In the Canadian guidelines it has in own section for keeping active and doing it in accordance to your body weight, but it really doesn't touch on
calorie balance or intake. Next, the American guidelines touches on foods to reduce from your diet. Focuses limiting sodium, saturated, mono and
poly saturated, cholesterol ,trans fats, added sugars, refined grains, and alcohol. Whereas Canadian guidelines really just focus a lot on salt intake,
alcohol, and caffeine. Next American guidelines talks about food to increase. Included in this list is fruits, vegetables, fat free dairy, lean proteins,
seafood, and foods that have more vitamins within them. The Canadian guidelines emphasis consuming a variety of complex carbs and foods from
the earth. Also, incorporating low fat dairy products as part of a daly routine. Although, both will guide the average person to a healthier lifestyle I
would refer my clients to the American guidelines because it goes in to more depth of how to live healthier.

Food Guide Pyramid And Mypyramid
In June 2011, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and The Center for Nutrition Policy and Promotion (CNPP) launched the
MyPlate icon, "a simple, yet powerful, visual cue to prompt consumers to think about their food choices across food groups and to build a healthy
plate at meal times" (Levine et al., 2012). MyPlate like its predecessors, the Food Guide Pyramid and MyPyramid follow the Dietary Guidelines for
Americans (DGA), which includes communication tools and materials to assist with choosing healthy food options. In addition, the MyPlate Web site
encompasses "the SuperTracker tool to personalize food plans, consumer educational materials and e–tools, social media engagement, and a partnership
initiative to help coordinate and disseminate consistent messages of the DGA" (Levine et al., 2012). Research shows that seventy–two percent of
individuals responsible for the purchasing and preparing of food for the entire household have a strong influence over meal consumption. Therefore, by
targeting those individuals who purchase and prepare most of the food, the communication strategy for MyPlate can be best employed for all users.
However, since the launch of MyPlate the African American community has failed to utilize the MyPlate website. Most importantly, African Americans
are disproportionately affected by "obesity, diabetes, hypertension, and cardiovascular disease, and it is likely that a host of factors interact in complex,

The Basics of the Food Pyramid
Food pyramid is a graphic representation of the structure of a food chain, depicted as a pyramid having a broad base formed by producers and
tapering to a point formed by end consumers between successive levels, total biomass decreases as energy is lost from the system. It also defines
as a diagrammatic representation of recommended portions of basic food groups. Another name is diet pyramid. (The American Heritage Medical
Dictionary,2010).The history of food pyramid begins in early 1970's in Sweden because of high food price which lead to demonstration. In 1974,
food pyramid officially introduce to public. Then in 2005, the food pyramid was called 'MyPyramid'. It was introduce by the U.S Department of
Agriculture. The basic food are potatoes, dairy, grains and pasta were placed at the bottom of food pyramid. Vegetables and fruits were placed at the
middle of food pyramid. There are several ways how the stages of food pyramid affects and effects human which is carbohydrates, protein, vitamins and
minerals; and fats.
Carbohydrates is an organic compounds which comprising only carbon, hydrogen and oxygen. A carbohydrate is also an ideal source of energy to make

Leading a nutritious and healthy lifestyle with the incorporation of exercise is the path I am currently walking on and will continue to follow in my
later years. Following the healthy eating plan I currently put myself on is a step in the right direction and the many steps that will follow will be the
guide to a continuous nutritional lifestyle. I am currently living with relapsing–remitting Multiple Sclerosis (MS). MS is an autoimmune disease that
causes demyelination. Demyelination occurs when there is loss of the myelin sheath that insulates the cells in the central nervous system. (Gutierrez,

(United States Department of Agriculture, 2009) Creating a diet to follow is easier planned than followed. One has to follow successfully aself
planned diet, especially when there is a drastic change from unhealthy foods to healthy foods. Additionally, living in a home where others are not on
a diet can be challenging. Eating with the familywhen only one individual on a diet is a challenge to one's will power. I can say for myself that my
will power is average. Itis hard sometimes when my husband is eating a steak dinner or fried spicy hot chicken, my favorite. I will give in at times.
There were situations where I completely gave in, but as I continue to educate myself, I have come to realize that sometimes cheating is not worth
because it eventually catches up to one's health in a not so good way. My approach to avoid having to deal with giving into temptation is to eat before
the rest of the family doesor to eat before I leave work. That way I am not eating late nor will I be hungry by the time I come home. Another
challenge I may come across is if the Multiple Sclerosis becomes aggressivein my later years where a work out regimen may not be an option.
Therapy and medication would have to be the option to handle the condition if it worsens. Depending on how bad the condition is, I may be able to
incorporate some kind of exercise whether it is just walking or picking up some weights. At least there will be some kind of physical activity.

The Importance Of Living A Healthy Lifestyle
Living healthy Living a healthy lifestyle is a crucial element in weight management. Learning and implementing healthier alternatives can be used to
combat the obesity epidemic as well as other dangerous eating patterns. According to the National Institutes of Health about 68% of American adults
are overweight (Core Concepts 408). "Over the past two decades, the prevalence of obesity has doubled among adults in the United States, making it
the second leading cause of preventable death" (Guzman 1). Binge–eating, bulimia nervosa, and anorexia nervosa are also diseases that fall under living
a healthy lifestyle and is affecting 11 million Americans. Considering the risks of reducing life expectancy, heart attacks, cancer, hypertension,
arthritis and depression, it is a wonder why the rate is growing instead of decreasing. Three important factors for adopting a healthy lifestyle are your
eating habits, physical exercise and emotions. The amount of eating habits is one of the most important factors for weight management. Developing
a diet or daily food choices that you enjoy and that help maintain a healthy body composition (Core Concepts 421) is more effective in the long run
because you're more willing to stick to it using the principle of "everything in moderation". Compared to dieting that restricts food choices.
Referencing the MyPyramid or MyPlate is a great way to know the suggested daily balance of the five food groups. Diet and eating habits is about

Dietary Guidelines For The Diet And Chronic Disease Essay
This article was to examine how the US government uses dietary guidelines for Americans and how the guidelines were supposed to help us eat and
stay healthy. Diet and chronic diseases are sometimes connected. For example, it is proven that nutrient deficiency disease like scurvy can be cured by
consuming the lost nutrients. However, it is also shown that some nutrient exposure can cause chronic illness such as energy, fats, sodium dietary fiber,
and food exposures, etc. making it difficult to set dietary guidelines. In addition to some nutrient causing chronic diseases, nondietary factors such as
stress, lack of exercise, smoking and other environmental factors are linked to causing chronic illnesses (Slavin, 2012).
The relationship between diet and chronic disease made the federal government to issue dietary guidelines for Americans since1980 and
publication of dietary guidelines were made every five years. The dietary guideline is in response to the public's desire for authoritative, consistent
guidelines on diet and health (Slavin, 2012). One of the reasons for developing the dietary guidelines was to provide science based advice for two
years old or older to help prevent chronic diseases and promote health. Another reason why dietary guidelines were created was to lay a good
"foundation for federal nutrition programs and nutrition education programs and serve as a basis for research gaps and priorities" (Slavin, 2012). Also,
the government wants to make sure the

Energy Balanced Balance
Watch your portion sizes! The amount you eat or drink plays an important role in your energy balance strategy. You may be eating more than you
realize. Some common food portions can equal the amount that is recommended for the whole day. For example, one bagel may weigh up to 5
ounces, which equals the entire day's allotment of grains for someone on a 1600 calorie MyPyramid Plan.
A good way to see how big your portions really are is to measure the size of bowls, glasses, cups, and plates you usually use. This can help you choose
sensible portions. To see what 1 cup, ВЅ cup, or 1 ounce of some different foods looks like, visit the food gallery and find some of the foods in each
group that you eat.

hypertension, overweight status, poor nutritional status, low activity level, and high stress level. These risk factors have been linked to multiple
chronic illnesses including diabetes mellitus, Coronary heart disease, stroke, obesity, and cancer (Battle, 2009). Cardiovascular disease is the leading

To do this, I recommend that Gladys focus on consuming a variety of nutrient–rich foods while limiting saturated and trans fats, cholesterol, added
sugars, salt, and alcohol; balance energy intake and expenditure, refer to the USDA Food Guide known as MyPyramid for guidance, and possibly
make small decreases over time in calorie intake and small increases over time in physical activity. These recommendations been proven to be
effective at lowering body weight and blood pressure (Schlenker & Roth, 2011). To facilitate these health behavior changes, we should refer to a few
different health behavior theories. The Transtheoretical Model states that behavior change is a process that occurs in stages where the individual
moves from the first stage, pre–contemplation to contemplation, preparation, action, and finally maintenance (Hayden, 2014). Gladys is currently in
the pre–contemplation stage and will hopefully move into the contemplation stage upon the next meeting. Before this can occur, we must refer to the
Health Belief Model. The Health Belief Model is another health behavior theory. It states that health behavior is determined by the individual's beliefs
and perceptions about a disease and the strategies that decrease its occurrence (Hayden, 2014). Some of the factors that contribute to the individual's
perception are knowledge, attitude, belief,

Fast Food Is Good Or Bad?
Fast food has become one of the first food people spend money on because of its availability, cheap price, and fast service. People know how food
from fast food restaurants put them at high risk of health problems because of a high amount of ingredient these restaurants use. Despite putting
people at risk, fast food helps people to save time in this busy world. so is fast food good or bad? Is the meat used produced with precaution? Does
fast food really put people at risk? What ingredients they really use? These question will be discussed below. Most people would say that fast food
only has cons, not pros. They are wrong. The first pro of fast food is the convenience that is always a plus. Fast food offers convenience not only to
a large family but even to a single person for most people who work and have children that go to school or play a sport after school, fast food is
readily available and is much easier than having to cook dinner. The convenience of fast food is also how quickly you can order, pay for, and
receive your food. Most fast food restaurants can make and serve your food in less than five minutes without even getting out of your car. lastly, fast
food is convenient in the fact that you never even have to get out of your car to order and pay for your meal. The second pro of fast food is the
healthy alternative menu that most places offer. Now you can still have the speedy service, cheap prices, and a healthy selection. Most of the

Food Changes In America
Growing up in the early 2000s allowed people to observe drastic changes occurring in the American Food Industry. America is now seeing the
repercussions of eating Fast Food daily and what might happen when a person does not maintain a healthy diet as part of their lifestyle. America is
now the number one obese country in the world. By the looks of what is happening, America was determined to keep that title. People simply have not
taken into consideration that the foods they eat have a direct impact on their body image. The food pyramid has been the first step of many to help
show what foods belong where, and how much a person should consume. Even with the food pyramid trying to slow down fast food consumption
across America the obesity rate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In recent studies, cases observe that "...seven nutrients showed no significant changes, protein declined by six percent; phosphorus, iron, and
calcium declined between nine percent and 16 percent; ascorbic acid (a precursor of vitamin C) declined 15 percent, and riboflavin declined 38
percent" (Rich). Now, this is a problem. People are getting less out of their food which is making the body think it is still hungry because it is not
getting as many nutrients as it normally would with organically grown crops. This has been caused by changes in farming methods. After World War
II, the methods of how people grow crops were changing and trending in a cheaper and resourceful direction, "...agrichemicals allowed farmers to
bypass the methods of maintaining soil fertility by replenishing soil organic matter with cover crops, manure, and compost, and of controlling pests
with crop rotation and intercropping" (Rich). Meaning, that instead of letting the crops grow organically, some farmers are covering the crop with cow
shit. In return, it causes the crop to dry out too rapidly meaning that the food does not have enough time to properly develop the right amount of
nutrients. Not getting a healthy serving of nutrition out of the food people eat is like eating nothing at all. The nutrients in the produce people consume
are what tell the body a person has eaten an adequate volume in that sitting. "...less–nutrient–dense foods may be partly why we're eating more and
more. Phytochemicals contribute to the satisfaction...help trigger satiety. It could even be that the second helping is an instinctive attempt to secure
sufficient micronutrients" (Rich). Basically, Americans are obese because people are literally eating food with empty calories that do nothing but make
the body feel hungry and less

America's Nutritional Standards
As early as the 19th century, there has been increased efforts to rebuild America's nutritional standards. The United States Department of Agriculture
(USDA) was organized to provide insights on issues related to public policies such as agriculture, nutrition and food safety. In efforts to help guide
Americans in establishing healthier nutrition plans, the USDA has implicated various visual aids. As a result of globalization, there has been various
revisions done on nutrition visual aids, which was fraught with different interpretations. These visual aids plays a significant role in the health
education of the general public in which it educates people how to eat and stay healthy. As a result of globalization, there has been a gradual change...

USDA's main concern during this time period, as it continuously is today, was to educate Americans on "food groups, serving sizes, and the balance
between food intake and energy" (Mudry 346). Specifically in a memorable method on informing citizens on the importance of variety and
proportionality, the USDA published an illustration of a food pyramid that could "communicate quantitative information and concepts" (Mudry 346). In
1991, the USDA announced the release of the Eating Right Pyramid, an icon designed to illustrate the federal government's recommendation's for
eating healthy. It is emphasized that "twentieth–century development of the science of nutrition contributes to the refiguring of public conceptions of
good food and a "proper" diet." (Mudry 339). Judgements are simplified as a result of the Eating Right Pyramid. Farther implicating the principle of
science of nutrition, the USDA's Eating Right Pyramid accentuates the principles of nutritionism. The bases of nutrition include the assumptions "that
the hidden chemical elements, and the quantities of those elements of a food are its most important feature and that understanding these hidden
chemical constituents will inevitably improve our health" (Mudry

The visuals message that fear of accidents is overblown given the actual causes of death for Americans is clear. A graph is the correct choice for
conveying this information, but the 3D bar graph utilized can distort the information conveyed. For example, the graph has heart disease as the
base of the pyramid, which makes sense given that heart disease was the leading cause of death for Americans in 2003. But, the graph has "other
diseases" as the middle of the pyramid and looks like that is the largest group given how large its segment is. This distorts the information being
presented. The breakdown in accidental causes of death as well as other diseases creates chart junk. This information could have been present
compellingly as a series of three separate graphs (Locker & Kienzler, 2009, p. 242). According to Hardin, Hom, Perez & Williams (2012), "showing

"MyPyramid." MyPyramid was created to promote the 2005 USDA Dietary Guidelines for Americans. Many say that the nutritional information given
in MyPyramid is complex and hard to understand. In 2011, the USDA introduced MyPlate as simple, familiar, and easy to

The Proper Nutrition
The Proper Nutrition Many people across the globe are fascinated by showy commercials about losing weight. Often, these commercials guarantee
that their customers will lose up to ten pounds in less than a week from using a fancy gizmo gadget workout machine. Some offer their viewers a
diet plan that consists of little foods that make most people binge by the end of the program. The viewers are drawn to these commercials because
they'll believe what anyone says on television, and most of the time the commercials are scams. The viewers are too blind to see behind closed doors,
and need to be enlightened by the true meaning of staying fit and losing weight. They don't educate themselves before diving in to the problem. With
actual exercise,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There should be constant reminders of eating a balanced and nutritional diet. The problem today is that many Americans are too lazy to educate
themselves, and research about proper nutrition. The United States Department of Agriculture even published a MyPlate, which is the current nutrition
guide in the United States. According to the United States Department of Agriculture, MyPlate are displayed on food packaging and used in the
nutrition education. It is the latest nutrition guide from the USDA. The USDA has been around for over 110 years and has provided a variety of other
nutrition guides for the public, including the Basic 7 (1943–1956), the Basic Four (1956–1992), the Food Guide Pyramid (1992–2005), and
MyPyramid (2005–2013). These nutrition guides recommends what types of food a person should intake every day. Even during the early forties
nutritional guides were still around. The bottom line is that there is a nutrition guide that Americans can always look at for the proper nutrition, but
they neglect it and suffer the consequences that will progress in the future. It was still around in the past and it will still be around in the future. There
should be no excuse of people who are inadequate about proper nutrition, but there should be a strive for proper nutrition as it has many benefits. One
of the benefits of proper nutrition is the transformation of a person's body either by losing weight or building and

Effects Of Obesity On The United States Essay
The worry over obesity has reached monumental proportions that New York requested to conduct a pilot project with New York City that would
eliminate SNAP benefits for sugar–sweetened beverages. However, the USDA (US Department of Agriculture) denied the request, a very
controversial decision on August 19, 2011. New York was not the only one disappointed in the decision, other states like California asked for such
permission and urged Congress limit and set standards for what type of products that can or cannot be purchased with SNAP benefits. Initially the
Food Stamp Act of 1964 was enacted to help feed needy people at a time when hunger was the nation's most prominent problem. Now, almost 50 years
later, the program's focus has shifted and has begun to slowly adapt to a changing nutritional environment. "Among low–income young children in the
United States, the prevalence of overweight and obesity now exceeds underweight by about 7 to 1. In its proposal, New York argued that
sugar–sweetened beverage consumption causes obesity and diabetes and that government cannot afford to subsidize disease–promoting behaviors."
The New York City Mayor claimed that the proposal would have helped people by protecting them from preventable illnesses and that it had little or
no cost to taxpayers. Not surprisingly, strong opposition towards the New York proposal came from the beverage industry since billions of dollars
would be at stake. The USDA denied and rejected the proposal for

Persuasive Essay On Childhood Obesity
Although the National School Lunch Program intentions were good when it came to feeding children in school, it played a major role in the childhood
obesity. In result of the improper food that the children are consuming in school, childhood obesity is at its all–time high. "67% of middle school
students who eat school lunches are classified medically as either overweight or obese." (Brandongaille, 2017) Diseases are becoming more prevalent
in children at such a young age now. Unhealthy school lunches play a major part is childhood obesity. School meals are usually processed foods high
in fat, sugar, and sodium that are unhealthy for children. In result of obesity, children are more than likely not to participate in physical school
activities, sports, or even exercise. Sadly obesity isn't the only health problem that comes with unhealthy eating. Diabetes, heart disease, fatty liver
disease, kidney disease, asthma, and many other complications are caused by obesity and school lunches. According to Ucsusa.org, the "obesity rates
among children nearly tripled between 1970 and 2000". Except it's more prevalent in Hispanic and African American children coming from
low–income families. "Childhood obesity also plays a key role in a cycle that can trap low–income children: poor health and missed school days result
in lower academic achievement, which leads to lower–paying jobs–and low incomes make it harder to maintain healthy lifestyles" (ucsusa.org). Image

Obesity : Its Influence On Our Health
Obesity, its Influence on Our Health In doing my research on obesity I found a definition that I thought fully described the meaning for obesity
and this is how it was defined. Obesity is a medical condition in which large amounts of body fat has come together to the point that it may have a
negative effect on our overall health leading to a shortened life expectancy and/or higher risk for health problems. While I was searching for some
data resources on obesity I found that 67% of Americans adults 20 to 74 years of age were either overweight or obese in 2005 to 2006. Overweight
and obesity are the most common nutritional disorders in the United States. Overweight and obesity are conditions caused by excessive and
unhealthy amounts of body fat (Schiff page 351). When we become overweight and obese we begin to wonder just what actually causes it. During
my research on this topic I learned that there is no simple cause for it. I read that there are physiological factors that can cause us to eat without
thinking about what we're putting into our mouths. Our consumption of the wrong foods and the serving size affects our body structure. In
determining what makes us fat then we must consider our genetic factors, the amount of exercise we get on a daily bases and our environment. We
have all at some point in our lives ate too much and when we do we continue to get bigger and fatter: but all hope isn't gone there is a safe and sure
way to shed those extra pounds. We have to have

Stress And Mental State Attached With Physical Symptoms
Stress is a big factor in my life right now. To me stress is a heightening mental state attached with physical symptoms when faced with a challenge.
These challenges are known as stressors disturbing homeostasis thus producing stress. I have more psychosocial stressors in my life. Learning about
stress I found that my performance connection is all over the place. First, I am not getting adequate sleep that causes my alertness to diminish as well
as my optimal performance at work. This in turn gives me anxiety and turns into disorganization with school and other areas of my life. It was
mentioned that the internal struggle we face while our body returns to homeostasis is known as the general adaption syndrome. It involves the alarm,...

I don't feel in control of stressful situations and this affects both my physiological and psychological responses to stress. How to manage stress
seems hard for me. I am determined to use more of the time management and relaxation techniques. I will also utilize the idea of downshifting; this to
me is a great plan. It will affect my life in a way that will help me feel more in control and to build up my self–esteem and self–efficacy. Another topic
that relates well to the one I previously mentioned is exercise and fitness. Exercise is a struggle for me because I simply do not have the time. There
are many positive outcomes to exercising that I would love to acquire. As I learned of all the different diseases that come to those who don't
participate in regular exercise it scares me. By having the fact that I have family members who have diabetes, it became clear to me that I am at risk
for being diagnosed with it as well. Taking the necessary steps in making exercise a daily routine like it should be will make my life so much better. It
was interesting to learn the different components of physical fitness. I have only really been concerned about cardio until I learned the other important
attributes. By learning these others it has affected the way I see fitness. I now know that by engaging in them all I will not only feel better but it will
give me the extra energy to deal with my daily obligations. As I created an exercise plan for me to follow it made it

School Lunch Program Analysis
The new school breakfast and lunch program focus on providing students with nutrient–dense meals that is low in calories. The program is targeting to
reduce childhood obesity and improve the diet and health of school children. With the increase in fruits and vegetable consumption along with the
decrease in sodium and fats consumption, this program is also favorable among parents because it is a means to prevent the risk of cardiovascular
disease, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, stroke, and type 2 Diabetes (Federal, 2012, p.3). The National School Lunch and School Breakfast
Programs require schools to make changes to their menu base on the Institute of Medicine of the National Academies recommendations. Schools need
to increase the availability of variety of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and non–flavor reduce fat milk; reduce the levels of sodium, saturated fat and
trans fat in students' meal; and stay within the recommended range of calories intakes. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This separation of age groups works because there is a separation between behaviors from elementary school to middle school to high school. With
the difference in behavior, these students will have different food preferences; therefore, it's simply the food choices that we can offer the students that
follow the Dietary Guidelines for Americans. Based on the National School Lunch Food Component (2014) the five day weekly average calories
range for K–5 is 350–500 kcals for breakfast and 550–650 kcals for lunch, grade 6–8 is 400–550 kcals for breakfast and 600–700 kcals for lunch, and

The Supplemental Nutrition Program For Women
The Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) was started in 1972, and was permanently established in 1974 by the
USDA (WIC Fact Sheet, 2015; Brown, 2011). WIC was established to safeguard the health of women, infants, and children up to age five who are low
income and at nutritional risk; their mission is carried out by means of supplementing diets by providing access to nutritious foods, nutrition education,
breastfeeding education, breastfeeding promotion, breastfeeding support, and referrals to health and other social service agencies (WIC Fact Sheet,
2015). WIC is one of the most successful nutrition programs in the United States that is federally funded; it has served approximately 5.7 million
children and 1.8 million women in fiscal years 2001–2003 (Brown, 2011). "WIC is not an entitlement program as Congress does not set aside funds to
allow every eligible individual to participate in the program. WIC is a Federal grant program for which Congress authorizes a specific amount of
funds each year for the program." (WIC at a Glance, 2015, p. 1). WIC is directed by the Food and Nutrition Service at the Federal level and run by 90
WIC state agencies that operates through 1,900 local agencies in 10,000 clinic sites, in 50 State health departments, 34 Indian Tribal Organizations, the
District of Columbia, Northern Mariana, American Samoa, Guam, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands (WIC at a Glance, 2015). Eligibility to

MyPlate like its predecessors, the Food Guide Pyramid and MyPyramid follow the Dietary Guidelines for Americans (DGA), which includes communication tools and materials to assist with choosing healthy food options. Research shows that seventy–two percent of individuals responsible for the purchasing and preparing of food for the entire household have a strong influence over meal consumption. Therefore, by targeting those individuals who purchase and prepare most of the food, the communication strategy for MyPlate can be best employed for all users. • 12. Dietary Guidelines For The Diet And Chronic Disease Essay This article was to examine how the US government uses dietary guidelines for Americans and how the guidelines were supposed to help us eat and stay healthy. Diet and chronic diseases are sometimes connected. For example, it is proven that nutrient deficiency disease like scurvy can be cured by consuming the lost nutrients. However, it is also shown that some nutrient exposure can cause chronic illness such as energy, fats, sodium dietary fiber, and food exposures, etc. making it difficult to set dietary guidelines. In addition to some nutrient causing chronic diseases, nondietary factors such as stress, lack of exercise, smoking and other environmental factors are linked to causing chronic illnesses (Slavin, 2012). The relationship between diet and chronic disease made the federal government to issue dietary guidelines for Americans since1980 and publication of dietary guidelines were made every five years. The dietary guideline is in response to the public's desire for authoritative, consistent guidelines on diet and health (Slavin, 2012). One of the reasons for developing the dietary guidelines was to provide science based advice for two years old or older to help prevent chronic diseases and promote health. Another reason why dietary guidelines were created was to lay a good "foundation for federal nutrition programs and nutrition education programs and serve as a basis for research gaps and priorities" (Slavin, 2012). The Transtheoretical Model states that behavior change is a process that occurs in stages where the individual moves from the first stage, pre–contemplation to contemplation, preparation, action, and finally maintenance (Hayden, 2014). Gladys is currently in the pre–contemplation stage and will hopefully move into the contemplation stage upon the next meeting. Before this can occur, we must refer to the Health Belief Model. Now, this is a problem. People are getting less out of their food which is making the body think it is still hungry because it is not getting as many nutrients as it normally would with organically grown crops. This has been caused by changes in farming methods. After World War II, the methods of how people grow crops were changing and trending in a cheaper and resourceful direction, "...agrichemicals allowed farmers to bypass the methods of maintaining soil fertility by replenishing soil organic matter with cover crops, manure, and compost, and of controlling pests with crop rotation and intercropping" (Rich). Meaning, that instead of letting the crops grow organically, some farmers are covering the crop with cow shit. In return, it causes the crop to dry out too rapidly meaning that the food does not have enough time to properly develop the right amount of nutrients. Not getting a healthy serving of nutrition out of the food people eat is like eating nothing at all. The nutrients in the produce people consume are what tell the body a person has eaten an adequate volume in that sitting. "...less–nutrient–dense foods may be partly why we're eating more and more. • 24. Effects Of Obesity On The United States Essay The worry over obesity has reached monumental proportions that New York requested to conduct a pilot project with New York City that would eliminate SNAP benefits for sugar–sweetened beverages. However, the USDA (US Department of Agriculture) denied the request, a very controversial decision on August 19, 2011. New York was not the only one disappointed in the decision, other states like California asked for such permission and urged Congress limit and set standards for what type of products that can or cannot be purchased with SNAP benefits. Initially the Food Stamp Act of 1964 was enacted to help feed needy people at a time when hunger was the nation's most prominent problem. Now, almost 50 years later, the program's focus has shifted and has begun to slowly adapt to a changing nutritional environment. "Among low–income young children in the United States, the prevalence of overweight and obesity now exceeds underweight by about 7 to 1. In its proposal, New York argued that sugar–sweetened beverage consumption causes obesity and diabetes and that government cannot afford to subsidize disease–promoting behaviors." The New York City Mayor claimed that the proposal would have helped people by protecting them from preventable illnesses and that it had little or no cost to taxpayers. Not surprisingly, strong opposition towards the New York proposal came from the beverage industry since billions of dollars would be at stake. The USDA denied and rejected the proposal for ... • 25. Persuasive Essay On Childhood Obesity Although the National School Lunch Program intentions were good when it came to feeding children in school, it played a major role in the childhood obesity. In result of the improper food that the children are consuming in school, childhood obesity is at its all–time high. "67% of middle school students who eat school lunches are classified medically as either overweight or obese." (Brandongaille, 2017) Diseases are becoming more prevalent in children at such a young age now. Unhealthy school lunches play a major part is childhood obesity. School meals are usually processed foods high in fat, sugar, and sodium that are unhealthy for children. In result of obesity, children are more than likely not to participate in physical school activities, sports, or even exercise. Sadly obesity isn't the only health problem that comes with unhealthy eating. Diabetes, heart disease, fatty liver disease, kidney disease, asthma, and many other complications are caused by obesity and school lunches. According to Ucsusa.org, the "obesity rates among children nearly tripled between 1970 and 2000". Except it's more prevalent in Hispanic and African American children coming from low–income families. "Childhood obesity also plays a key role in a cycle that can trap low–income children: poor health and missed school days result in lower academic achievement, which leads to lower–paying jobs–and low incomes make it harder to maintain healthy lifestyles" (ucsusa.org). • 26. Obesity : Its Influence On Our Health Obesity, its Influence on Our Health In doing my research on obesity I found a definition that I thought fully described the meaning for obesity and this is how it was defined. Obesity is a medical condition in which large amounts of body fat has come together to the point that it may have a negative effect on our overall health leading to a shortened life expectancy and/or higher risk for health problems. While I was searching for some data resources on obesity I found that 67% of Americans adults 20 to 74 years of age were either overweight or obese in 2005 to 2006. Overweight and obesity are the most common nutritional disorders in the United States. Overweight and obesity are conditions caused by excessive and unhealthy amounts of body fat (Schiff page 351). When we become overweight and obese we begin to wonder just what actually causes it. During my research on this topic I learned that there is no simple cause for it. I read that there are physiological factors that can cause us to eat without thinking about what we're putting into our mouths. Our consumption of the wrong foods and the serving size affects our body structure. In determining what makes us fat then we must consider our genetic factors, the amount of exercise we get on a daily bases and our environment. We have all at some point in our lives ate too much and when we do we continue to get bigger and fatter: but all hope isn't gone there is a safe and sure way to shed those extra pounds. We have to have ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 27. Stress And Mental State Attached With Physical Symptoms Stress is a big factor in my life right now. To me stress is a heightening mental state attached with physical symptoms when faced with a challenge. These challenges are known as stressors disturbing homeostasis thus producing stress. I have more psychosocial stressors in my life. Learning about stress I found that my performance connection is all over the place. First, I am not getting adequate sleep that causes my alertness to diminish as well as my optimal performance at work. This in turn gives me anxiety and turns into disorganization with school and other areas of my life. It was mentioned that the internal struggle we face while our body returns to homeostasis is known as the general adaption syndrome. It involves the alarm,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I don't feel in control of stressful situations and this affects both my physiological and psychological responses to stress. How to manage stress seems hard for me. I am determined to use more of the time management and relaxation techniques. I will also utilize the idea of downshifting; this to me is a great plan. It will affect my life in a way that will help me feel more in control and to build up my self–esteem and self–efficacy. Another topic that relates well to the one I previously mentioned is exercise and fitness. Exercise is a struggle for me because I simply do not have the time. There are many positive outcomes to exercising that I would love to acquire. As I learned of all the different diseases that come to those who don't participate in regular exercise it scares me. By having the fact that I have family members who have diabetes, it became clear to me that I am at risk for being diagnosed with it as well. Taking the necessary steps in making exercise a daily routine like it should be will make my life so much better. It was interesting to learn the different components of physical fitness. I have only really been concerned about cardio until I learned the other important attributes. By learning these others it has affected the way I see fitness. I now know that by engaging in them all I will not only feel better but it will give me the extra energy to deal with my daily obligations. As I created an exercise plan for me to follow it made it ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 28. School Lunch Program Analysis The new school breakfast and lunch program focus on providing students with nutrient–dense meals that is low in calories. The program is targeting to reduce childhood obesity and improve the diet and health of school children. With the increase in fruits and vegetable consumption along with the decrease in sodium and fats consumption, this program is also favorable among parents because it is a means to prevent the risk of cardiovascular disease, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, stroke, and type 2 Diabetes (Federal, 2012, p.3). The National School Lunch and School Breakfast Programs require schools to make changes to their menu base on the Institute of Medicine of the National Academies recommendations. Schools need to increase the availability of variety of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and non–flavor reduce fat milk; reduce the levels of sodium, saturated fat and trans fat in students' meal; and stay within the recommended range of calories intakes. ... • 29. The Supplemental Nutrition Program For Women The Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) was started in 1972, and was permanently established in 1974 by the USDA (WIC Fact Sheet, 2015; Brown, 2011). WIC was established to safeguard the health of women, infants, and children up to age five who are low income and at nutritional risk; their mission is carried out by means of supplementing diets by providing access to nutritious foods, nutrition education, breastfeeding education, breastfeeding promotion, breastfeeding support, and referrals to health and other social service agencies (WIC Fact Sheet, 2015). WIC is one of the most successful nutrition programs in the United States that is federally funded; it has served approximately 5.7 million children and 1.8 million women in fiscal years 2001–2003 (Brown, 2011). "WIC is not an entitlement program as Congress does not set aside funds to allow every eligible individual to participate in the program. WIC is a Federal grant program for which Congress authorizes a specific amount of funds each year for the program." (WIC at a Glance, 2015, p. 1). WIC is directed by the Food and Nutrition Service at the Federal level and run by 90 WIC state agencies that operates through 1,900 local agencies in 10,000 clinic sites, in 50 State health departments, 34 Indian Tribal Organizations, the District of Columbia, Northern Mariana, American Samoa, Guam, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands (WIC at a Glance, 2015).
