The Order of Things – What College Rankings Really Tell Us...
The Order of Things – What College Rankings Really Tell Us by Malcolm Gladwell
The main argument of this article is that it doesn't matter who comes out first place in a certain ranking, it all depends on who's doing the ranking and
on what variables the ranking is taking place. Malcolm Gladwell believes that a ranking can be heterogenous (diverse in content), as long as it doesn't
try to be too comprehensive (including all or nearly all aspects of something). He also believes that a ranking can be comprehensive as long as it
doesn't try to measure things that are heterogeneous. Also even if the ranking is trying to be both heterogeneous and comprehensive at the same time,
it'll only work properly if the subjects being ranked are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It requires someone to make a surmise about the intentions of the deceased at the time and although in some cases that is easy, in most cases
there's ambiguity. Different coroners and different cultures vary widely in the way that they choose to interpret that ambiguity. A suicide may be
called a suicide, a homocide, an accident, or left undetermined, depending on the culture the deceased followed. As a result, nobody can truly know
whether suicide rankings are real. This article explains in finite detail how if the variables on which a certain ranking is based on is changed, the
ranking itself will also change especially if the ranking is both heterogenous and comprehensive as many variables are being taken into account at
once. Another aspect that can change rankings is who the rankings is done by as everyone has their own opinions and thoughts and depending on
what that specific person thinks or feels about a certain subject will alter how they will rank a certain subject compared to somebody else. For
example if somebody was told to rank colleges based on their 'graduation rate performance', the school with the highest graduation rate will be ranked
as first. On the other hand if those same colleges were ranked based on tuition fees, in this case the variable the ranking was based on has changed,
there is a possibilty the school ranked first for the highest graduation rate would be ranked

Testing the Difference Between the Respondents Demographic...
Testing the difference between the respondents demographic groups As mentioned in chapter 4: table 4–3, there was a very different between the
number of respondents within some demographic groups, e.g. the gender groups compromised 185 males and 25 females and similarly, the academic
background groups compromised 3 high school, 185 graduate and 85 postgraduate holders. Therefore, generalising the results of testing the difference
between the means of these groups may be invalid and meaningfulness. However, it could give general indicators about the opinion of each group
regarding the performing the SECI and innovation processes within the Egyptian banks.
In this term, there are two methods to test the difference means between groups ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the other hand, the One–way ANOVA test is used to test whether three or more groups means are different. This test is suitable for testing the means
difference between the years of experience groups (≤ 5, 6–10, 11–15, 16–20 and >20yrs), between the academic background groups (high school,
graduate and postgraduate) and between the job title groups (junior, senior, head of department, auditor, vice manager and manager)
Independent t–test results
The t–test can be used to test whether two groups are different. The independent t–test is used when there are two experimental conditions (e.g. male
and female or public and private banks) and different participates have been used in each condition (e.g. SECI and innovation processes). Independent
t–test table yielded by PASW normally mentions two rows for the teststatistics: one row is labelled Equal variance assumed, while the other is
labelled Equal variances not assumed. Which row is considered is based on the significant of Levene's test for Equality of Variances. Therefore, if the
Levene's test is significant, the Equal variances not assumed row will be used for the t–test. The significant of this difference is based on the
significant of the t–test. That is, if this test is significant, it could be included that the difference between the means of these

Verbal Reaction Times Experiment Essay
This report aimed to replicate Stroop's (1935) experiment. Using the repeated measures design and a sample of 20 students, differences in verbal
reaction times on two tests were observed. The one–tailed hypothesis predicted that it would take longer to say words in the Cc, this is the conflicting
condition where the colour of the word differs from the colour that the word describes. It was found that, using the t–test for related data, this
hypothesis could be accepted as the obtained value was much greater then the critical value. It can therefore be concluded that visual interference does
affect people's verbal reactions.

However, automatic processes are hard to amend once learnt. Kahneman proposed his capacity/resource allocation model in 1973 (see Figure 1):
Figure 1
This model could provide an explanation for the Stroop Effect as the visual interference of the conflicting colour could be described as a momentary
intention (a voluntary shift of attention). This is because the participant has to force his/herself to read the word and not say the colour of it. This
therefore means that, according to Kahneman, the central processor has trouble deciding between tasks (in this case, between reading the actual word
or the colour of it). This could be an explanation for the expected delay in the condition where the colour of the word is different to the colour that the
word describes.
Aims and Hypotheses
Aim
The aim of this report is to replicate Stroop's original (1935) experiment.
Alternative Hypothesis
Words that are coloured in conflicting colours to that which the text describes (conflicting condition, Cc) will take significantly longer to process than
words coloured in the same colour that the text describes (similar condition, CS). This is a one–tailed (directional) hypothesis.
Null Hypothesis
The colour interference does not affect the participants

Media Concentration Is More Sensitive Than The Largest...
Nevertheless, these changes in the instrument point in the right direction, improving some of the deficiencies mentioned earlier. The new
measurement, for example, assigns more weight to criteria such as pluralism and media concentration. The questionnaire section on "Pluralism and
editorial independence" includes, for the first time, the following questions, all on a scale from 1 to 10.:
D.2 – Do media reflect the range of opinions among members of the public?
D.3 – Do public media provide coverage of and access by all political currents?
D.4 – Is investigative journalism developed enough to uncover matters of significance?
D.9 – To what extent do radio and television stations with the largest audiences present independent and critical news?
Question D.11 on media concentration is more sensitive than before, since respondents are asked to evaluate it from a scale from 1 to 10. Moreover,
another question is included to assess economic concentration in general and possible conflicts of interests:
D.12 – What proportion of general–interest media is owned by companies with other interests in non–media sectors of the economy? (5 if 50%; 10 if
100%)
The questionnaire introduces several questions on self–censorship:
D.7 – Do journalists practice self–censorship for fear of the following consequences?
a) Civil lawsuits or criminal prosecution
b) Professional reprisals or attacks on reputation
c) Threats to physical safety of the journalist or his family and friends, to his

MATERIALS & METHODES:
In order to document the utilization of indigenous medicinal plants, survey was carried out during the Spring, summer and autumn of 2012 in the
Namarestagh district (Mazandaran province) of Iran. The survey was spread across the seasons so as to get maximum information. The information
on medicinal uses of the indigenous plants have been described after gathering information from general local people and experienced aged rural
folk. The research population consisted of 674 people, including residents of the five villages. According to the study and collection of data and
characteristics of population, the sample size was determined using the equation Cochran (214 = n). A total of 214 inhabitants from 5 villages were
interviewed. The randomly selected respondents of different ages from about 40 years and above were interviewed in local language, that is,
Mazandarani. A semi structured questionnaire was used to elicit information from the resource persons using standard methods Information on local
name of the plant, plant parts used for curing disease their recipes and mode of administration were recorded. Plants collected during the surveys were
identified with the help of flora.Cronbach 's alpha coefficients were calculated for different parts of the questionnaire that the total value of 0.78 was

This think piece wasn't written to inform you further about the mechanical failures, but rather to determine if the human error could have been caused
by factors beyond the employee's control. The eight HR processes that contributed to Toyota's downfall
If the root cause of the problems Toyota is facing are failure by employees to make good decisions, confront negative news, and make a convincing
business case for immediate action, then the HR processes that may have influenced those decisions must be examined.
The HR processes that must at least be considered as sus pect include rewards processes, training processes, perform ance management processes, and
the hiring process. 1. Rewards and recognition – The purpose of any corporate reward process is to encourage and incent the right be haviours and to
discourage the negative ones. It's im portant for the reward process to incent the gathering of infor mation about problems. It's equally important to
reward employees who are successful in getting executives to take immediate action on negative information.
Key questions – Were rapid growth (sales have nearly doubled recently) and "lean" cost–cutting recognised and rewarded so heavily that no one was
willing to put the brakes on growth so as to focus on safety? Were the rewards for demon strating error–free results so high that obvious errors were
swept under the table? 2. Training – The purpose of

How the Simulation Will Unfold
You will be notified of your assignment to a team prior to the start of the exercise. Although the exercise does not take place until Week 4, this gives
you several weeks to establish a communication protocol among team members. This is important so that when we start Week 4 and the simulation,
you are ready to go. There is a collaboration phase that requires you discuss the exercise and reach consensus as a team. If you can't communicate with
each other, then you can't fully participate in the exercise.
This exercise will proceed in three phases. Each phase has a distinct start and stop time. I have also created a suggested timeline for accomplishing the
important steps in this exercise. The timetable can be found at the end of this document.

Estimating The Mixing Density Of A Mixture Distribution
Estimating the mixing density of a mixture distribution remains an interesting problem in the statistics literature. Stochastic approximation (SA)
provides a fast recursive way for numerically maximizing a function under measurement error. Using suitably chosen weight/step–size the stochastic
approximation algorithm converges to the true solution, which can be adapted to estimate the components of the mixing distribution from a mixture, in
the form of recursively learning, predictive recursion method. The convergence depends on a martingale construction and convergence of related series
and heavily depends on the independence of the data. The general algorithm may not hold if dependence is present. We have proposed a novel
martingale decomposition to address the case of dependent data.
5 Measurement error model: small area estimation
We proposed [4] a novel shrinkage type estimator and derived the optimum value of the shrinkage pa– rameter. The asymptotic value of the shrinkage
coefficient depends on the Wasserstein metric between standardized distribution of the observed variable and the variable of interest. In the process, we
also estab– lished the necessary and sufficient conditions for a recent conjecture about the shrinkage coefficient to hold. The biggest advantage of the
proposed approach is that it is completely distribution free. This makes the estimators extremely robust and I also showed that the estimator continues

Testing Frequency Distributions (314 words)
Using the NCOVR_US_HOMICIDES data I investigated the distribution of female headed households and family poverty to see if the data was
normally distributed or not, this was the issue that the research question and hypotheses focused on.
H1 Family poverty is skewed compared to a normal distribution
H2 Family poverty is not skewed compared to a normal distribution
The Chi–squared test has certain requirements in terms of the minimum expected population for each category. The data did not meet these criteria,
meaning that the chi–squared test in this circumstance would be inappropriate. To avoid such issues, the nonparametric Kolmogorov–Smirnov test was
used in preference as it has less rigorous data requirements..
The positive skewness values for FP89 (1.285) indicate that the sample is positively skewed compared to a normal (Gaussian) distribution, with a long
right tail. The kurtosis value is 2.013, compared to a normal distribution which would have a Kurtosis value of 0.00. Thus, the test has indicated that the
distribution of both samples is substantially more peaked than would be the case for a normal sample distribution, this means that the null hypothesis
should be rejected and thus that family poverty is skewed compared to a normal distribution.
This is likely to be the case because family poverty is likely to reach a tipping point beyond which it is unsustainable, possibly due to high values of
poverty being deemed

Divergent In The Divergent
In a futuristic world in Chicago, the civilzation was divided into five groups, the factions, based on their human virtues. Abnegation, Amity, Candor,
Erudite and the Dauntless. Each of the people living in this futuristic world must choose a faction and commit to it as they reach their 16th age. The
Abnegation, they're the government and the public servants. They live a simple life, not selfish and dedicated to help those in need. Erudite, the

information about everyday life in Babylonia and how Hammurabi keep the town together. He ruled for 42 years total, 30 years with Babylonia and
after defeating Larsa and Marine he became ruler of almost all of Mesopotamia. Mainly everyone around or in the town of which Hammurabi ruled
was qualified to follow his set of rules which was known as Hammurabi's Code. These laws went accordingly to three topics family, property, and

Implementation of Pricing and Revenue Optimization
Introduction
Perhaps one of the most difficult managerial decisions in the 21st century is the decision to make a decision. Analysis paralysis, endless meetings, and
corporate structure have made it painstakingly difficult to come to any real conclusions. So when the Chief Financial Officer, Bruce Berman, of
Bloomindale's was tasked with decision to implement ProfitLogic's Pricing Optimization (PO) system, he called upon Daniel Gabbay, an analyst in the
finance division, to make sense of the numbers and guide his decision making process. Berman was considering implementing a PO system to quantify

Fortunately, performing these non–parametric techniques for just a few of the possibilities would give insight as to whether we were on the right track
and the time spent analyzing the data in this manner could prevent a long arduous path to an erroneous conclusion. Statistics is a science, and like all
science, it requires testing. And after this initial testing and concluding that the PO System does increase revenue–this assumption is perfectly
reasonable to make since ProfitLogic is still in business–we could then build a model to determine by how much revenue will be increased and what
the payback period might be.
Building the Regression Model
As previously mentioned, no analysis is given for the regression model, so we shall at least attempt to ask the appropriate questions needed to make
an intelligent decision. We begin by looking at the structure of the regression model prior to performing the diagnostic procedures. First, we must
understand why the consultants chose to model the revenue in the markdown period as a product of the observed performance in the regular period,
the PL effect, Department effect, the promotions effect, and a constant. If there are no PL effects, department effects, or promotions effects, then the
revenue is simply a function of the overserved performance in the regular price period. This is logical, as adding in an "effect" simply scales the
revenue.

Automatic surveillance application has been a subject of extensive research during last decades to develop robust application. As one of its important
application, the vision detection and localization interest in detecting moving objects under the challenging conditions of the illumination change,

This approach is based on comparing the current image with a reference one(s) of the background. Pixels of sharp variations are consequently classified

Another technique is the Eigen backgrounds [6], this approach is based on an eigenvalue decomposition which is applied to the whole image. This
extended spatial domain enabled the exploration of the spatial correlation and avoiding the tiling effect of block partitioning. The method has two
phases that alternate with a learning phase for samples acquisition and eigenvector matrix computation and followed by classification step for
foreground detection. The Gaussian process presented in [7] , is a non parametric tool that performs Bayesian inference, is gaining great respect of the
research community, and thought most of the investigation in this domain is focused on its theory, great efforts consider interpreting this theory to real

Laplace approximation as a tool of inference in Gaussian process models was suggested as a tool supporting the Gaussian binary classifier. The

Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation
Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) might be an appropriate alternative treatment Because of its simplicity, Single TMS pulses have been used as
the noninvasive and painless method for stimulating the brain of intact conscious human subjects through the scalp [4]. Repeated applications of single
TMS pulses (rTMS) can sometimes elicit long–lasting changes in the excitability of the corticospinal tract, M1, and spinal cord structures, significantly
improving the sensory and motor function in the patients with motor disorders [5].
Applications of rTMS to the motor cortex at appropriate stimulation intensity can enable recording of motor evoked potentials (MEPs) from the
muscles of the contralateral extremity. MEP amplitude can be affected... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to the results of this study, latency and MNCV were more enhanced in the experimental group than the control group after the intervention.
Active rTMS was more effective than sham rTMS in improving motor recovery.
According to another study, rTMS could reduce motor improvement in SCI. It is possible that motor score improvement and amelioration of spasticity
with rTMS in SCI can be induced through enhancement of descending corticospinal projection and reduction in corticospinal inhibition [11].
Using a sample of 17 SCI AIS D level patients, Benito et al. [12] applied 20 Hz high–frequency rTMS to an experimental group consisting of seven
patients, and applied sham rTMS to the control group consisting of ten patients, for 15 days each and reported that the experimental group showed
significant improvement in modified Ashworth scale (MAS), 10 m walking test (MWT), cadence, step length, and timed up and go test (TUG)
compared to the control group.
Belci et al. [6] reported improvement in the motor score and upper extremity function in four patients with chronic incomplete cervical SCI after the
application of rTMS over the motor cortex for five

Evaluation Of A Juvenile Drug Court Program
Research Article Analysis In today's society there is an enormous amount of research being conducted throughout the world. A great many of those
studies are occurring on Universities and campuses, in this paper, analysis of one such study will be reviewed. The article is an evaluation of a Juvenile
Drug Court Program in Lexington, Kentucky. The data that is coming from the Bureau of Justice suggests that juvenile courts process a higher volume
of cases today than at any time in the past (Hayden, 2012) These statistics represent the trend in persistently high rates in use of illegal substances
among adolescents in the United States and subsequent juvenile court involvement. [The purpose of this study was to examine these outcomes in
criminal offending and substance use for one of the first juvenile drug courts (JDC) in Kentucky, implemented in 2003 located in Lexington, Fayette
County (Hayden, 2012). This program evaluation was conducted using records provided by Kentucky Administrative Office of the Courts (AOC)
(Hayden, 2012). The concept of a drug court was conceived in Miami–Dade County, Florida by Chief Judge Gerald Wetherington in 1989. That court
was for adults, and the idea was to provide alternatives to incarceration and probation by affording offenders opportunities to get treatment with
incentives and sanctions to encourage sobriety and lawful behavior (Hayden, 2012). Due to the success of adult drug courts, and with the increase in

A Study on Traffic Violations Essay
A STUDY ON TRAFFIC RULES VIOLATIONS IN CHENNAI
(VANDALUR AND PERANGALUTUR)
Submitted By:
Praveen Kumar A, MBA.
INTRODUCTION Violations in traffic laws are very common in a highly populated country like India. The conditions are even worse in metro cities
like Delhi, Mumbai Bangalore and Chennai. The accidents associated with these violations cause a huge loss to life and property.
Same is the case in Chennai. Being a metro city and a highly populated one also, has a lot of road accidents every year. Despite this the violations in
traffic laws do not reduce. A lot of people disobey the rules every day sometimes willingly and sometimes because they are forced to do so because of
others.
The major traffic laws in India ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also it has a vast population which causes a lot of traffic on the roads. Knowing these factors help us to collect more accurate data because it enables
us to compare between different situations and make a better analysis. These factors can be identified as:
Overcrowded roads because of a large population, Maximum traffic is observed during office hours i.e. between 8.00–10.00AM and 5.00–8.00PM.
Therefore the maximum violations are also done during these peak hours. Are report includes study during both peak as well as non peak hours. One
another important factor is that since most of the offices are in the areas like Vandalur and Perangalatur, the maximum traffic is observed in these
areas. So these areas experience maximum breaking of traffic laws.
The violations mentioned in the report are:
Overloading of vehicles– it is very common in the case of two wheelers.
Not wearing helmets or seat belts is also a major rule which is not followed and is the cause of many deaths and serious injuries.
Drunken driving and speeding beyond a mentioned limit.
Driving in the wrong direction is one of the key violations.
Not obeying the traffic signals is observed mainly during the peak hours of traffic as everyone is in a rush to reach early.
Thus, these are the basis on which the report is based.
METHODOLOGY
As the traffic violations will give out better results when studied at the places with high density of

In the previous article, it was evident that awareness of one 's illness was linked to the better function outcomes and lower self–esteem and hope. The
explanation that was given for such findings was based on the concept that acceptance would impact on the outcomes in different ways depending on
the meaning that one attaches to the acceptance. In this case, variability will be evident depending on the extent that one accepts stigmatizing
ideologies and beliefs concerning mental illnesses. Unique from people with other psychiatric and mental conditions, schizophrenia individuals will
more often than not willfully contest or are unaware of what others think of them to be mentally ill. Taken fully, the phenomena was described as a lack
of awareness but showed a contradiction with some part of the results. From the results, it was concluded that acceptance of schizophrenia is highly
dependent on the meaning that the patient attaches to schizophrenia. In the article, it was believed that if one believes that the illness is an implication
that they cannot achieve some socially valued roles, and this could lead to hopelessness and demotivation of perseverance. Nonetheless, if the patient
does not share in the opinion thatillness can preclude the possibilities of satisfying life, then the patient's awareness of the condition will make them seek

Advantages And Disadvantages Of The Academic Ranking
The Academic ranking is one of the priorities in the society including the students, University, Higher education etc. However, there are some of the
advantages and disadvantages using academic ranking. More importantly, it is still useful because using this can be our basis in applying college
admission and the course we would like to take.
Since URAP is an academic performance based ranking, publication constitutes the basis of the ranking methodology. All the bio metric data used in
the URAP ranking were gathered from the Incites database of private analytic (Corap, 2016). At any rate, all the academic ranking must have done
the proper process for the judges to know that they are worthy of the ranking they are in. Moreover, the students who passed the criteria of being an

The purpose of the article is to find whether there is a relationship between institutional holdings and payout policy in U.S. public firms between 1980
and 1996. In the begging there is an abstract, that states the aim of the research and the reached findings. There are 7 sections in the article. The first
one is introduction, where the authors explain what results are reached and carefully introduce the readers to the structure of the article. In the next
section the hypotheses is derived. After that, section 3, the variables and the data is described. The tests begin from section 4 to section 6. In those
sections the authors use non–parametric tests, regression analyses and vector autoregressive specifications in order to reach their results. The last
section is the conclusion of the article, where the major findings are listed. The authors find that institutions prefer firms that pay dividends to ones
which don 't. Moreover, within dividend–paying firms, institutions are not attracted to high dividends. They also find a positive relation between
repurchases and institutional holdings. Their results also suggest that institutions prefer firms that repurchase regularly to firms that repurchase
sporadically. They don 't find evidence that an increase in institutional holdings in firms is followed by an increase in dividends or repurchases. Their
article has been cited 412 times by other authors.

Semantic Association Experiments
Discussion
The aim of this study was to demonstrate that with Semantic Association training, participants would rank more word pairs correctly than participants
who did not receive any training. There were five hypotheses in this study. Firstly, it was predicted that the group who received Semantic Association
training (experimental group), would receive a higher, total score in the Ranking Pairs task, than the control group who did not receive any training.
This result was significant and did demonstrate that training did improve the way people associated word pairs.
Secondly the prediction that the experimental group would gain more points in the non–associated category was significant, and demonstrated that
after training, people tended not to incorrectly rank certain word pairs, which were not semantically connected through a synonym. The predictions that
the experimental group would gain more points when ranking indirectly and directly associated word pairs were not significant however. The final
hypothesis was that the experimental group would rank ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

the situation to authorities. The current study does not assume this is the only reason for non–reporting of such cases, however it is clearly
demonstrated that this is an influencing factor. There are most certainly other populations impacted by the misperception of other word concepts, as
well as the target words in this study, for example the elderly. This is an area in psychology that may facilitate a change in subjective word

The newly designed system follows 4 point scale instead of 13 point scale which made the manager task easier in evaluation.
Cons of Newly implemented PMS:
Some employees were reluctant to perform their duties outside the job as those responsibilities were not in the review system. So they preferred only
to work in the domains which were taken into consideration for their reward.
Some managers felt that the new distribution system to be very rigid. High performing team need to come up with the targeted number of achievers
even though they had many of them. On the contrary, the low performing team also had equal number of top achievers.
The new PMS uncovered some managerial dissembling. Because managers allotted 'Not Rated' ranking to new members and saved the higher rankings
for their veteran employees irrespective of their performance. Hence the new member in team might be de motivated.
Some managers were reluctant in differentiating between their employees and allow any unfamiliar person to evaluate them. Because of this true
performer might miss his/her rewards and incentives.
Some managers rotated the highest ranking between their employees from one year to the next. So the objective of developing new evaluation system
was unfulfilled.

A Study On Low Back Pain Patients With Associated Leg Pain...
Abstract
Background: Low back pain patients with associated leg pain symptoms generally have a poorer prognostic outcome compared to those with localised
low back pain. Therefore, this study will investigate the difference in clinical outcomes associated with low back pain patients with and without
self–reported leg pain symptoms. This study will also address if additional co–factors such as age, sex, and occupation have an effect on the severity of
these clinical outcomes. The clinical outcomes which will be considered are pain rating, interference with active daily living (ADL) rating, anxiety
rating, depression rating and control of pain rating.
Methods: This retrospective cohort study compares adult low back pain patients with localised pain (n = 58) to low back pain patients with
self–reported leg pain symptoms (n = 54) who presented for chiropractic treatment. Patients completed the WIOC patient outcomes questionnaire as
baseline which consisted of the Bournemouth Questionnaire, recording responses from an 11 point numerical scale (NRS). Demographic information
was also collected. Differences between the two groups using the data collected from this questionnaire were calculated using the Mann Whitney U test.
Differences between age and sex were also calculated using the test used.

Evaluation Of A Hypothesis Test Technique
When seeking to determine additional information needed to know from the pollster, mainly my first task would be to inquire which hypothesis test
technique was utilized. Moreover, once that was known and established and the correct hypothesis test was used then it would be much easier to
analyze the results. Furthermore, it is essential to determine and know the direction of the test to use such as would we utilize a two–tailed test, an
upper–tailed test, or a lower–tailed test (Mirabella, 2011).
Additionally, when hoping to gain more information from pollsters in reference to support of voters in the election for the candidates, first and
foremost I would desire to know many important variables needed to determine which direction to go in to make the correct decision on choosing a
hypothesis test. First, I would desire to know the level of measurement used, meaning was the measurement nominal, ordinal, or scale. Second, I
would need for the pollsters to provide me information on which type of parametric test can be used? Should we utilize a parametric test?, "In which a
set of assumptions must be met" (Mirabella, 2011, p. 5–1). In performing a parametric test, it is essential to know if the data is normally distributed.
Furthermore, we may have to determine to perform a nonparametric test. Thirdly, how many samples are involved? Such as, were there one, two, or
three or more samples. And lastly, if we are utilizing two or more samples are the cases related

The third scatterplot shows a moderately positive correlation. Notice how most of the data points do not fall on the line. It is a moderate correlation,
however, because the points fall in a tight pattern around the line. Notice the pattern is linear –– that is, a pattern suggesting a line. The fourth
scatterplot shows no correlation. Scores on one variable have no systematic association with scores on the other. The scatterplot presents no linear
pattern among the points. Beyond the graphical representation of association, we can mathematically compute the degree of association between two
variables. The numerical result of such a computation is called a correlation coefficient. The value of these coefficients usually range from –1.00 to
+1.00. A positive coefficient indicates that two variables systematically vary in the same direction: as one variable increases, the other variable tends
to increase. The closer the coefficient is to +1.00, the stronger the positive association. A negative coefficient indicates that two variables
systematically vary in opposite directions: as one variable increases, the other variable tends to decrease. The closer the coefficient is to –1.00, the
stronger the negative association. A coefficient close to zero indicates that no systematic co–varying exists between the variables. There are several
important correlation procedures. They differ according to the data types of the variables. 22–2 © 4th ed.

Insufficient Physical Activity Essay
Inadequate physical activity is one of the major risk factors for mortality worldwide. Inadequate physical activity causes about 2.3 million deaths
every year in the world.(1) According to the World Health Organization, out of every four adults one person has insufficient physical activity. Also,
according to these estimates, around 80% of adolescents worldwide have insufficient physical activity.(2) Physical activity should also be reduced by
7% for each year when the adolescent is older. This is also more severe for teenagers who do not have a positive background for physical activity.(3)
The World Health Organizationplans to reduce this figure by 10% by 2025.(4) Physical activity means activities that are carried out at idle times for at
least 30 minutes without interruption and are powerful enough to increase heart rate and respiration. Also, these activities lead to skeletal and muscular
activity, resulting in burning energy.(5) Sufficient physical activity for adolescents up to the age of 15–17 is at least 60 minutes of moderate to strong

LITERATURE EVALUATION
Statistical data analysis is the foundation of every research; it is the first step in and a research and is the part that helps researcher developed results.
Statistical data analysis plays a crucial role in the field of nursing. For this research paper, the focus is on the nonparametric test, T–test, and
correlation. So, before I proceed, let me provide the definition of these test. "Nonparametric tests are sometimes called distribution–free tests because
they are based on fewer assumptions (e.g., they do not assume that the outcome is approximately normally distributed)". (,"Boston University School of
Public Health " 2016, p. 1). The t–test is "a parametric statistical test for comparison of the means of two independent groups." (Kellar & Kelvin, 2013,
p. 464). According to the University of the West of England (UWE), "Correlation is a technique for investigating the relationship between two
quantitative, continuous variables, for example, age and blood pressure." (UWE, 2016)
The first study that is discussed incorporates the nonparametric test. This study was conducted in the country of India and discusses the attitudes of
nursing students toward psychiatry across successive training years." Often when nursing specialties' are discussed psychiatry is one of the specialties
that is not widely recognized. Psychiatry is an area of nursing that is always looked down

The Order Of Things – What College Rankings Really Tell Us...

  • 1. The Order of Things – What College Rankings Really Tell Us... The Order of Things – What College Rankings Really Tell Us by Malcolm Gladwell The main argument of this article is that it doesn't matter who comes out first place in a certain ranking, it all depends on who's doing the ranking and on what variables the ranking is taking place. Malcolm Gladwell believes that a ranking can be heterogenous (diverse in content), as long as it doesn't try to be too comprehensive (including all or nearly all aspects of something). He also believes that a ranking can be comprehensive as long as it doesn't try to measure things that are heterogeneous. Also even if the ranking is trying to be both heterogeneous and comprehensive at the same time, it'll only work properly if the subjects being ranked are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It requires someone to make a surmise about the intentions of the deceased at the time and although in some cases that is easy, in most cases there's ambiguity. Different coroners and different cultures vary widely in the way that they choose to interpret that ambiguity. A suicide may be called a suicide, a homocide, an accident, or left undetermined, depending on the culture the deceased followed. As a result, nobody can truly know whether suicide rankings are real. This article explains in finite detail how if the variables on which a certain ranking is based on is changed, the ranking itself will also change especially if the ranking is both heterogenous and comprehensive as many variables are being taken into account at once. Another aspect that can change rankings is who the rankings is done by as everyone has their own opinions and thoughts and depending on what that specific person thinks or feels about a certain subject will alter how they will rank a certain subject compared to somebody else. For example if somebody was told to rank colleges based on their 'graduation rate performance', the school with the highest graduation rate will be ranked as first. On the other hand if those same colleges were ranked based on tuition fees, in this case the variable the ranking was based on has changed, there is a possibilty the school ranked first for the highest graduation rate would be ranked ... • 2. Testing the Difference Between the Respondents Demographic... Testing the difference between the respondents demographic groups As mentioned in chapter 4: table 4–3, there was a very different between the number of respondents within some demographic groups, e.g. the gender groups compromised 185 males and 25 females and similarly, the academic background groups compromised 3 high school, 185 graduate and 85 postgraduate holders. Therefore, generalising the results of testing the difference between the means of these groups may be invalid and meaningfulness. However, it could give general indicators about the opinion of each group regarding the performing the SECI and innovation processes within the Egyptian banks. In this term, there are two methods to test the difference means between groups ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the other hand, the One–way ANOVA test is used to test whether three or more groups means are different. This test is suitable for testing the means difference between the years of experience groups (≤ 5, 6–10, 11–15, 16–20 and >20yrs), between the academic background groups (high school, graduate and postgraduate) and between the job title groups (junior, senior, head of department, auditor, vice manager and manager) Independent t–test results The t–test can be used to test whether two groups are different. The independent t–test is used when there are two experimental conditions (e.g. male and female or public and private banks) and different participates have been used in each condition (e.g. SECI and innovation processes). Independent t–test table yielded by PASW normally mentions two rows for the teststatistics: one row is labelled Equal variance assumed, while the other is labelled Equal variances not assumed. Which row is considered is based on the significant of Levene's test for Equality of Variances. Therefore, if the Levene's test is significant, the Equal variances not assumed row will be used for the t–test. The significant of this difference is based on the significant of the t–test. That is, if this test is significant, it could be included that the difference between the means of these ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Verbal Reaction Times Experiment Essay This report aimed to replicate Stroop's (1935) experiment. Using the repeated measures design and a sample of 20 students, differences in verbal reaction times on two tests were observed. The one–tailed hypothesis predicted that it would take longer to say words in the Cc, this is the conflicting condition where the colour of the word differs from the colour that the word describes. It was found that, using the t–test for related data, this hypothesis could be accepted as the obtained value was much greater then the critical value. It can therefore be concluded that visual interference does affect people's verbal reactions. Introduction In 1935 John Ridley Stroop published his Ph.D. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, automatic processes are hard to amend once learnt. Kahneman proposed his capacity/resource allocation model in 1973 (see Figure 1): [IMAGE] Figure 1 This model could provide an explanation for the Stroop Effect as the visual interference of the conflicting colour could be described as a momentary intention (a voluntary shift of attention). This is because the participant has to force his/herself to read the word and not say the colour of it. This therefore means that, according to Kahneman, the central processor has trouble deciding between tasks (in this case, between reading the actual word or the colour of it). This could be an explanation for the expected delay in the condition where the colour of the word is different to the colour that the word describes. Aims and Hypotheses Aim The aim of this report is to replicate Stroop's original (1935) experiment.
  • 4. Alternative Hypothesis Words that are coloured in conflicting colours to that which the text describes (conflicting condition, Cc) will take significantly longer to process than words coloured in the same colour that the text describes (similar condition, CS). The new measurement, for example, assigns more weight to criteria such as pluralism and media concentration. The questionnaire section on "Pluralism and editorial independence" includes, for the first time, the following questions, all on a scale from 1 to 10.: D.2 – Do media reflect the range of opinions among members of the public? D.3 – Do public media provide coverage of and access by all political currents? D.4 – Is investigative journalism developed enough to uncover matters of significance? D.9 – To what extent do radio and television stations with the largest audiences present independent and critical news? Question D.11 on media concentration is more sensitive than before, since respondents are asked to evaluate it from a scale from 1 to 10. Moreover, another question is included to assess economic concentration in general and possible conflicts of interests: D.12 – What proportion of general–interest media is owned by companies with other interests in non–media sectors of the economy? (5 if 50%; 10 if 100%) The questionnaire introduces several questions on self–censorship: D.7 – Do journalists practice self–censorship for fear of the following consequences? a) Civil lawsuits or criminal prosecution b) Professional reprisals or attacks on reputation c) Threats to physical safety of the journalist or his family and friends, to his ... INTRODUCTION: The purpose of this study was to collect information on how people of a particular culture and region make use of wild plants. Ethnobotany studies the interactions between people and plants in nature, with influences of botany and anthropology and can contribute to discussions that link indigenous human populations to areas of interest for biological preservation. Ethnobotany medicine, the scientific term for traditional health care, encompasses the knowledge, skills, methods, practices, and beliefs about health care found among the members of a community. This think piece wasn't written to inform you further about the mechanical failures, but rather to determine if the human error could have been caused by factors beyond the employee's control. The eight HR processes that contributed to Toyota's downfall If the root cause of the problems Toyota is facing are failure by employees to make good decisions, confront negative news, and make a convincing business case for immediate action, then the HR processes that may have influenced those decisions must be examined. The HR processes that must at least be considered as sus pect include rewards processes, training processes, perform ance management processes, and the hiring process. 1. Rewards and recognition – The purpose of any corporate reward process is to encourage and incent the right be haviours and to discourage the negative ones. It's im portant for the reward process to incent the gathering of infor mation about problems. It's equally important to reward employees who are successful in getting executives to take immediate action on negative information. Key questions – Were rapid growth (sales have nearly doubled recently) and "lean" cost–cutting recognised and rewarded so heavily that no one was willing to put the brakes on growth so as to focus on safety? Were the rewards for demon strating error–free results so high that obvious errors were swept under the table? 2. Training – The purpose of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

How the Simulation Will Unfold You will be notified of your assignment to a team prior to the start of the exercise. Although the exercise does not take place until Week 4, this gives you several weeks to establish a communication protocol among team members. This is important so that when we start Week 4 and the simulation, you are ready to go. There is a collaboration phase that requires you discuss the exercise and reach consensus as a team. If you can't communicate with each other, then you can't fully participate in the exercise. This exercise will proceed in three phases. Each phase has a distinct start and stop time. • 14. Estimating The Mixing Density Of A Mixture Distribution Estimating the mixing density of a mixture distribution remains an interesting problem in the statistics literature. Stochastic approximation (SA) provides a fast recursive way for numerically maximizing a function under measurement error. Using suitably chosen weight/step–size the stochastic approximation algorithm converges to the true solution, which can be adapted to estimate the components of the mixing distribution from a mixture, in the form of recursively learning, predictive recursion method. The convergence depends on a martingale construction and convergence of related series and heavily depends on the independence of the data. The general algorithm may not hold if dependence is present. We have proposed a novel martingale decomposition to address the case of dependent data. 5 Measurement error model: small area estimation We proposed [4] a novel shrinkage type estimator and derived the optimum value of the shrinkage pa– rameter. The asymptotic value of the shrinkage coefficient depends on the Wasserstein metric between standardized distribution of the observed variable and the variable of interest. In the process, we also estab– lished the necessary and sufficient conditions for a recent conjecture about the shrinkage coefficient to hold. The biggest advantage of the proposed approach is that it is completely distribution free. This makes the estimators extremely robust and I also showed that the estimator continues to perform well with respect to the 'best' ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Testing Frequency Distributions ( 314 Words ) Testing Frequency Distributions (314 words) Using the NCOVR_US_HOMICIDES data I investigated the distribution of female headed households and family poverty to see if the data was normally distributed or not, this was the issue that the research question and hypotheses focused on. H1 Family poverty is skewed compared to a normal distribution H2 Family poverty is not skewed compared to a normal distribution The Chi–squared test has certain requirements in terms of the minimum expected population for each category. The data did not meet these criteria, meaning that the chi–squared test in this circumstance would be inappropriate. To avoid such issues, the nonparametric Kolmogorov–Smirnov test was used in preference as it has less rigorous data requirements.. The positive skewness values for FP89 (1.285) indicate that the sample is positively skewed compared to a normal (Gaussian) distribution, with a long right tail. The kurtosis value is 2.013, compared to a normal distribution which would have a Kurtosis value of 0.00. Thus, the test has indicated that the distribution of both samples is substantially more peaked than would be the case for a normal sample distribution, this means that the null hypothesis should be rejected and thus that family poverty is skewed compared to a normal distribution. This is likely to be the case because family poverty is likely to reach a tipping point beyond which it is unsustainable, possibly due to high values of poverty being deemed ... Profitlogic's Pricing Optimization Chris Watt, Sarah Elmer, Kyle Luithly 1 May 2015 Pricing and Revenue Management Implementation of Pricing and Revenue Optimization Introduction Perhaps one of the most difficult managerial decisions in the 21st century is the decision to make a decision. Analysis paralysis, endless meetings, and corporate structure have made it painstakingly difficult to come to any real conclusions. So when the Chief Financial Officer, Bruce Berman, of Bloomindale's was tasked with decision to implement ProfitLogic's Pricing Optimization (PO) system, he called upon Daniel Gabbay, an analyst in the finance division, to make sense of the numbers and guide his decision making process. Berman was considering implementing a PO system to quantify the markdown ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Fortunately, performing these non–parametric techniques for just a few of the possibilities would give insight as to whether we were on the right track and the time spent analyzing the data in this manner could prevent a long arduous path to an erroneous conclusion. Statistics is a science, and like all science, it requires testing. And after this initial testing and concluding that the PO System does increase revenue–this assumption is perfectly reasonable to make since ProfitLogic is still in business–we could then build a model to determine by how much revenue will be increased and what the payback period might be. Building the Regression Model As previously mentioned, no analysis is given for the regression model, so we shall at least attempt to ask the appropriate questions needed to make an intelligent decision. We begin by looking at the structure of the regression model prior to performing the diagnostic procedures. First, we must understand why the consultants chose to model the revenue in the markdown period as a product of the observed performance in the regular period, the PL effect, Department effect, the promotions effect, and a constant. If there are no PL effects, department effects, or promotions effects, then the revenue is simply a function of the overserved performance in the regular price period. This is logical, as adding in an "effect" simply scales the revenue. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A great many of those studies are occurring on Universities and campuses, in this paper, analysis of one such study will be reviewed. The article is an evaluation of a Juvenile Drug Court Program in Lexington, Kentucky. The data that is coming from the Bureau of Justice suggests that juvenile courts process a higher volume of cases today than at any time in the past (Hayden, 2012) These statistics represent the trend in persistently high rates in use of illegal substances among adolescents in the United States and subsequent juvenile court involvement. [The purpose of this study was to examine these outcomes in criminal offending and substance use for one of the first juvenile drug courts (JDC) in Kentucky, implemented in 2003 located in Lexington, Fayette County (Hayden, 2012). This program evaluation was conducted using records provided by Kentucky Administrative Office of the Courts (AOC) (Hayden, 2012). The concept of a drug court was conceived in Miami–Dade County, Florida by Chief Judge Gerald Wetherington in 1989. That court was for adults, and the idea was to provide alternatives to incarceration and probation by affording offenders opportunities to get treatment with incentives and sanctions to encourage sobriety and lawful behavior (Hayden, 2012). Therefore the maximum violations are also done during these peak hours. Are report includes study during both peak as well as non peak hours. One another important factor is that since most of the offices are in the areas like Vandalur and Perangalatur, the maximum traffic is observed in these areas. So these areas experience maximum breaking of traffic laws. The violations mentioned in the report are: Overloading of vehicles– it is very common in the case of two wheelers.

A positive coefficient indicates that two variables systematically vary in the same direction: as one variable increases, the other variable tends to increase. The closer the coefficient is to +1.00, the stronger the positive association. A negative coefficient indicates that two variables systematically vary in opposite directions: as one variable increases, the other variable tends to decrease. • 37. Beta Fish Data 1)To summarize the results of these experiments a number of descriptive statistical measures could be used. As we are most interested in answering questions about what affects mate choice, how mate competition plays out, and how the two may be related though, a few sets of descriptive statistical measures would best serve to characterize our findings with respect to these questions being asked. First to present general trends in display times in front of females a graph of the average display times of male fish in female presence could be included with breakouts on males with respect to size (larger, smaller, equal), dominance status (non–dominate, dominate, and co–dominate) and color (red vs blue). Included on this graph bar graph of means,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... a.Here we are interested in female choice out of a set of nominal data, and as such chia squared one sample test could be conducted to determine whether or not the female showed any preference based on dominance status of the male fish. 4: Did the female show any preference in mate choice based on mate display time? a.Here we are looking for a correlation between display time by the male fish and how it relates to the female's respective mate choice. As we are looking for a correlation we could conduct a spearman correlation test to see if any relationship between these two variables is present. 5: Was there any preference for the female to choose a mate based simply on the side of the tank he was located in? a.Here we are again testing a one sample nominal set of data, and as such a chia squared could be carried out to determine if tank side had any influence on mate choice of the female. In a sense this test is serving as a type of control to help us potentially eliminate from our confounding variables any potential effects male location may have in the influencing the female mate ... • 38. Insufficient Physical Activity Essay Inadequate physical activity is one of the major risk factors for mortality worldwide. Inadequate physical activity causes about 2.3 million deaths every year in the world.(1) According to the World Health Organization, out of every four adults one person has insufficient physical activity. Also, according to these estimates, around 80% of adolescents worldwide have insufficient physical activity.(2) Physical activity should also be reduced by 7% for each year when the adolescent is older. This is also more severe for teenagers who do not have a positive background for physical activity.(3) The World Health Organizationplans to reduce this figure by 10% by 2025.(4) Physical activity means activities that are carried out at idle times for at least 30 minutes without interruption and are powerful enough to increase heart rate and respiration. Also, these activities lead to skeletal and muscular activity, resulting in burning energy.(5) Sufficient physical activity for adolescents up to the age of 15–17 is at least 60 minutes of moderate to strong vigor during the day.(4) Physical activity has short–term and long–term effects on health. Slope Test Lab Report Slope class (visual interpretation) (fig–1) shows that according to our model for the area less than or equal to 5В° is flat, so the majority of areas falls within less than 5В° areas. It means that only some areas fall within greater than 5В°. The statistical information (fig–2) of slope class shows that the min. slope is 0В°, max is 31.36В° and the mean is < 4В°. Therefore, generally the majority of the slope areas are low. • 40. Statistical Test For Your Data Analysis Data Analysis and Interpretation In selecting the appropriate statistical test for your data analysis, you need to identify the question or hypothesis for the study. Are you trying to compare groups, interested in finding out if there is a relationship between two or more variables, or are you trying to predict. Some factors to consider as well are the following: (1) Research design, (2) Level of measurement: nominal, ordinal, interval, ratio, (3) Number of groups, and if they are correlated (dependent) or independent, (4) Number of variables, and know which is the dependent and independent variable, and (5) Know when to choose a parametric versus a non–parametric test. The flowchart and the Appendix E section of the book on How to Use SPSS eighth edition of Brian Cronk (2014), was used as a guide to answer the questions below. Answer this question for the four studies below: Which statistical test you would use to analyze the data collected for these variables? Study A* Variable 1 is psychiatric patients' gender; and Variable 2 is whether or not the patient has attempted suicide in the past 12 months. Answer Chi–square test of independence tests whether or not two variables are independent of each other (Cronk, 2014). The question here is, is there a relationship between gender and whether or not the patient has attempted suicide in the past 12 months? Does the relationship differ for males and females? The independent variable is gender and the dependent variable ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. Statistical Data Analysis For The Field Of Nursing LITERATURE EVALUATION Julian Fils Thomas Edison State University LITERATURE EVALUATION Statistical data analysis is the foundation of every research; it is the first step in and a research and is the part that helps researcher developed results. Statistical data analysis plays a crucial role in the field of nursing. For this research paper, the focus is on the nonparametric test, T–test, and correlation. So, before I proceed, let me provide the definition of these test. "Nonparametric tests are sometimes called distribution–free tests because they are based on fewer assumptions (e.g., they do not assume that the outcome is approximately normally distributed)". (,"Boston University School of Public Health " 2016, p. 1). The t–test is "a parametric statistical test for comparison of the means of two independent groups." (Kellar & Kelvin, 2013, p. 464). According to the University of the West of England (UWE), "Correlation is a technique for investigating the relationship between two quantitative, continuous variables, for example, age and blood pressure." (UWE, 2016) The first study that is discussed incorporates the nonparametric test. This study was conducted in the country of India and discusses the attitudes of nursing students toward psychiatry across successive training years." Often when nursing specialties' are discussed psychiatry is one of the specialties that is not widely recognized. Psychiatry is an area of nursing that is always looked down ... Testing means to unearth the defects early, which were made during or before the development phase. Testing is essentially needed to get the customer satisfaction in any business. Testing Team should be represented in the early phase of the software advancement life cycle, the expense of fixing the bug is bigger if testing is not done in prior stage and bugs found in later stages. In the todays aggressive market just the quality items stay long–lasting, so to ensure they create the great quality item the testing of utilization is key variable in SDLC. Looking at more numbers, it becomes clear that companies need to find a better way to cut down on the costs associated with the traditional hiring process. To save some money in the process of hiring, every company need to follow some key ways like develop the employee referral program, turn their career site into a talent community and mash able job board listings. Here are the few reasons for hiring a good and dedicated team: Facilitates better communication. Motivates employees. Promotes creativity. Develops problem solving skills. Breaks the barrier. 2. Required resources: Most of the companies are eager to engage in testing, but if they don't have their proper resources which is one of the fastest ways to see the program to fail. Even though the team have some good ideas, they cannot rectify the errors and execute them without the proper required resources. So, maintain the required resources which are needed to test or complete the project. 3. Prioritize the errors: In every project, during the analysis or development phase there are some defects. To save the time and money, first list out the highest priority defects because when the team resolve the prioritized errors most of the errors are resolved and the output will be good. 4. Documentation: Every project needs documentation. Proper documentation is the only key thing that can make it possible and makes testing more accurate in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Women's Pain Perception in Childbirth This is a study that focused on eighty–three women and examined the effects of cultural and educational influences on the pain in childbirth. The eighty–three women are divided into Middle–Eastern women and Western women. The women ranged in ages from nineteen to thirty–eight. There were thirty people from the Western group and that consisted of women whose mothers were born in Europe, the US or another English speaking country. There were fifty–three women from the Middle Eastern Group and that consisted of women whose mothers were born in Asia, North African or another Middle Eastern countries. The women were classified by the cultures but were also classified by their level education. Those who had twelve years or less of schooling were in the low education group. Those women who had more than twelve years of schooling were in the high education group. In the Western group sixty–six percent were in the high education group. While the Middle Eastern group only had thirty–three point nine percent in the high education group. In order to perform this study they recorded their information they received from the procedure. The four measures were pain perception, behavioral ratings, extroversion and the Miller Behavioral Style Scale. Pain perception is a scale ranged from zero to one–hundred that is used to rate the labor pains. Behavioral ratings were used based on Meisles–Iticksohn and was rated from zero to four. A zero meant that no behavior was observed and a four meant ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
