1. International Exchange Visit to Georgia
By MARIUS QURESHI
I am happy that I took part in this project where I
found so many wonderful people and especially
where I gathered experience and we managed to
help each other.
This trip to Georgia lasted 5 days and I shall describe
each day at a time.
Day 1: In the first day we traveled a long way to the
destination where we carried out our activity. It was a
long and tiresome journey, but very rewarding. By
midday we traveled from one airport to another and
finally we managed to reach the capital city of
Georgia. We checked in the hotel, we went for a little sightseeing, it is a wonderful city,
and then we came back to the hotel to rest knowing that the next day we would begin
our work.
Day 2: We began our work early in the day 2; we began by visiting World Vision
Georgia Office where we discussed a much more complex form of Advocacy than that
which we experienced, Save the Children, where we talked about children – how they
are recruited, how they interact, how they are selected, how they write down their ideas
and make their projects and how they implement them (very interesting), then we visited
and spoke to a representative of the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia. We
made a little exchange of expertise at the Children’s Federation where we discussed the
main activities and the progress made in various projects. After the visits we prepared to
go to Batumi, a fairly beautiful tourist area and we traveled by train almost a whole night
and day 3 was planned to be just as busy.
Day 3: Fortunately, day 3 was announced as less busy but still we began in force by
visiting the Youth Council where we presented our projects as well, then we visited the
Art Museum, a fascinating and very interesting place which I absolutely loved and was
fascinated by what I have seen there, we also met and spoke to the Minister of
Education and Science of Adjara, then we visited a group of little children in their home,
2. very nice children, there we sang and had a very good time…after which we were free
to visit the town.
Day 4: In day 4 we began by waking up early because we had to travel to Kutaisi and
once we got there we visited the Youth Council at the Public School no. 17 where they
presented their projects to us, we also met the Kutaisi Youth Group where we had an
exchange of expertise and it was very interesting, because we had a lot to say to each
other and they also invited us to witness a debate where advantages and
disadvantages are very clearly specified and they think very well, then we were free to
visit the town and in towards the evening we went all the way from Kutaisi to the capital.
Day 5: Day 5 was the most beautiful of all. We had some time off when we could visit
everything we wanted, but the weather was not on our side and it rained, but that was
no problem, a little rain was not holding us back and the next day at 2 o’clock we began
our journey back to Romania……a sad moment because we did not want to go back.
We visited many beautiful places such as: the Parliament, the Opera, the theater, Youth
Palace, Liberty Square, Post Office (those being in Tbilisi), the Art Museum, tourist
area, the beach, Old and New Batumi, Poseidon’s Statue, the Government, the
University and several other important things (those being in Batumi), Downtown,
Bagrati Cathedral and the Gelati Monastery (those being in Kutaisi).
I noticed that people maintain their traditions which are very important and also the
food is very delicious. I enjoyed this trip and loved it very much.
Honestly, although we had a tight schedule, I for one liked my time in Georgia because I
made new friends, I gathered experience and at the same time learned about the city’s
history and I hope to go back one day.
I especially would like to thank Rusudan and Khatuna for their time and for being there
for us.
