REL 212 WEEK 7 DQ
Week 7 Discussion
The roots of Christianity and the growth of this religion.
Please respond to the following:
Main discussion questions for the week:
We have seen/suggested that Zoroastrianism influenced Judaism. Jesus was a Jew and used the Jewish scripture when he taught. Some even say that Christianity is a sect of Judaism (see Rabbi Norman Solomon, Judaism: A Very Short Introduction). Yet, most Christians claim that their religion is unique.
· Did Zoroastrianism and/or Judaism provide the basis for Christianity or not?
· Pick a side and defend it with three (3) reasons. Explain each reason.
In our chapter we have seen numerous splits in Christianity: In the Book of Acts; the division between Roman Catholicism and the Eastern Orthodox Church, the Protestant Reformation, and on and on. Modern Christianity is sometimes characterized by the split between followers who believe in the literal interpretation of the Bible and those who believe in a figurative interpretation.
· How can one Bible, especially one New Testament, be used to justify so many divisions?
· Is one of these divisions/denomination the "right" denominations? Why?
Be sure to respond to at least one (1) (BELOW) other student.

Hi Class!
I believe that Zoroastrianism/Judaism provided a basis to Christianity. Since Zoroastrianism did exsist before Christianity, I think this is a major reason why Christianity came about. I will use the example of Hinduism and Buddhism, Buddhism originated mainly from Hinduism (since Hinduism is one of the oldesst realigions) because some people wanted to take some of the philosophies from Hinduism and create their own set of beliefs. Christianity has some of the same basics as Judaism and Zoroastrianism, but they created new philosophies and values to fit the kind of religion that they wanted.
Like the religion, there was a basis that was used to start the religion. It was influenced by many factors including religion and culture so there is going to be one bible that started it all. I think that they all use the Bible as the center stone that each new division expands and revolves on. I think that every single sect can believe that their denomination is the 'right' one, but ultimately the only right one would be the one to start it all.But they are all revolving around the same basis, so it really depends on your morals and values as to which one is the 'right' one.

HIS 105 WEEK 7 DQ
Part 1: Post a Response
By the early 1950s, the US was a world super-power militarily
and economically. The Great Depression was no more. But, two
major rival powers were developing, rivals ideologically and
militarily: The Cold War between the US and its allies versus
the Soviet Union and its allies/clients would be the dominant
international issue for the next four decades. Domestically, in
the 1950s and the 1960s, the US would begin grappling head-on
with major Civil Rights and economic issues, as well as a
divisive conflict in Vietnam---and widespread demonstrations
and some high profile assassinations.
Choose and discuss (in a full paragraph or two) one of the
following two topics related to the period from the late 1940s
and through the 1960s.
1. Discuss America’s Cold War policy or strategy aimed at
dealing with communism and the Soviet threat, and an example
of a Cold War conflict or crisis.
. Identify one or two Cold War strategies of the US. Describe a
specific example of a conflict or crisis that was part of this Cold
War strategy, and compare or contrast this to the international
situation today.
. Identify the source(s) where you read about these Cold War
issues.
· Discuss the Civil Rights advances and struggles that took
place in the 1950s and 1960s along with relevant legal
developments.
. Identify two key specific events of the Civil Rights struggle
4. and at least one major piece of legislation or court decision.
. Explain the historical significance of your examples and ways
they have impacted our own time.
. Identify the source(s) where you read these Civil Rights
issues.
Part 2: Respond to a Peer
Read a post by one of your peers and respond (BELOW) ,
making sure to extend the conversation by asking questions,
offering rich ideas, or sharing personal connections.

RE: Week 7 Discussion
Hi, Classmates, professor
Discuss America's Cold War policy or strategy aimed at dealing
with communism and the Soviet threat, and an example of a
Cold War conflict or crisis
The focus was to Stop Soviet and China communist expansion.
Destroy communism as an economic system. Try containment
by using political means and military means in Korea, Cuba,
and Vietnam. The policy was containment since the end of WW
II. It was to surround the communist block and to prevent any
expansion of the Soviet block. The USA, USSR, was continually
trying to outdo each other with scientific research, such as
going to the moon space, etc. At the same time, both countries
were walking a metaphorical tight rope, trying to keep each
other from using nuclear weapons and starting the world's first
nuclear war.
When Reagan became US President in 1981, he immediately
wanted to strengthen the US military and become enemies with
the USSR. In general, the US was trying to stop other countries
from using communism, and USSR was doing the exact
opposite. All major powers in the Cold War America, Soviet
Union, China wanted to increase their global influence, usually
by gaining political EU, Warsaw Pact, later China-US
rapprochement), economic, and military allies NATO, Warsaw
Pact. The Soviets had an established sphere of influence in
5. Eastern Europe, but it was not enough as America was
dominating the entire world with its massive political and
economic clout. Hence, the Soviet Union wanted to expand its
influence. During the Cold War, the USA considered
airdropping large condoms labeled Medium into USSR. To
demoralize them against an anatomically superior American
Army.
The main goals during the Cold-War were to contain the
socialist Rule territorial expansion. Furthermore, the communist
ideals both, especially
in Europe in which the CIA was very active in the NATO
countries, a specific example of a conflict or crisis that was part
of this Cold War strategy, was to keep Germany in a neutered,
non-threatening condition. Furthermore, to develop nuclear
weapons, and following that, establish a credible nuclear
weapons delivery capability.
Describe a specific example of a conflict or crisis that was part
of this Cold War strategy.
The world was divided into two, based on ideology, namely
Communist and non -communist. It had adverse hostility
between nations curbed development and developed mistrust
and genuine hatred among their peoples. Soviet glory was lost,
and millions were left unemployed, resulting in the
deteriorating of the Soviet economy.
The compare or contrast this to the international situation
today, for example. The situation in the Middle-East resembles
the powder keg that was the Balkans a little over a century ago,
with many powers having interests in the region.
I believe that a new Cold War is happening. With Russia very
much being, soon, the secondary partner, providing both the
nuclear-weapon support and oil for an economically stable
China. Even today, it is threatening to think the world could
have almost ended if only some American or Russian hit the
launch button.

RE: Week 7 Discussion
Hello Professor and Classmates. After reading the article, the
three major issues I got out of eyewitness identification in
lineups and other means are, a persons memory could be jarred
by things that did not happen, based on some events that may
have been too hard for them to see, like maybe a car accident,
shooting, etc. Then, a persons memory could be falsely
7. interrupted by what others may have said or during questioning
by investigators, based on their questions. And then in lineups a
person could mistake a person who did not commit a crime with
the person who actually did, based on certain features that they
may have in common. The Miranda warning does not apply to
me in situations where a suspect is caught for shoplifting, and
they are detained by security, it does not apply because they
security officers are not the police. And if a cop stops a person
and questions them, before they are arrested, then Miranda does
not apply because they are not under arrest and no handcuffs
were put on them. And Lastly, if the questions are only asking a
persons name, their address, or date of birth, then Miranda
warning does not apply, because these questions are not in a
manner that would be considered an interrogation. In other
words, in order for Miranda to apply, the questions must be in a
manner that the answers they give may incriminate them in one
way or another.
