Chapter 1 Occupational Health and Safety
1.List possible causes of injury in an information technology
environment.
The possible causes of injury in an information technology environment are as
follow:
1.Repetitive strain injury(RSI)
2.Incorrect Posture.
3.Dirty and dusty working environment with chemicals
4.Dark working room.
2. How should heavy objects be handled using safe working practices?
Heavy objects be handled using safe working practices because first of all the user
have to be safe and than only we can keep the heavy object safe by handling
carefully while carrying or while doing works.
3 What is good posture?
Posture is the position in which you hold your body upright against gravity while
standing, sitting or lying down. Good posture involves training your body to stand,
walk, sit and lie in position where the least strain is placed on supporting muscles
and ligaments during movement.
4 Describe what makes a work area comfortably lit.
There are various factors that makes a work area comfortably lit.they are as follows:
1.sound pollution free working room.
2.cool and calm room with low humidity.
3.working room equipped with document holders and static electricity
4.Air free room
5 How can humidity affect you?
Humidity can affect one with lots of things, like it may lead to eye irritation
,headache or sometimes bleeding from the nose .
6 Describe a brief exercise regimen appropriate for your own
work situation.
A brief exercise regimen appropriate for my own work situation can be:
• Rotating the neck and making it free
• Raising hands to and fro to make sure that the blood circulation is going
smooth.
• Moving hand and elbow joints
• Moving wrist and fingers for a better flow of blood.
• At least an hour break for rest.
Chapter 2 Environmental considerations in the care of equipment
1 What are some of the important adverse environmental
conditions for computer equipment?
The important adverse environmental conditions for computer equipment
are as follow:
1.Temperature-heat and cold and a variations in temperature.
2.Dust,light and direct sunlight.
3.air flow and humidity.
2 What are some of the physical constraints in the locating of
equipment?
The physical constraints in the locating of equipment are as follow
• Locate under ground utilities
• Locate your septic tank and drainage field
• Take note of drainage patterns
3 What is an uninterruptible power supply and how is it used?
Uninterruptible power supply is also called a battery back up which is used
to provides emergency power and for the system to remain active so that
computer can be shutdown manually during power failure.
4 What is the difference between fuse and RCD?
The difference between fuse and RCD is as follow:
Fuse RCD
- is a type of over current
protection device
- is a residual current devices
- is necessary part of power
distribution and prevent fire.
- High level of personal
protection from electric shocks.
5 Why would you want to connect line filter to a power line?
I want to connect line filter to a power line because it is used as interpreter
to flow the electric line between both power lines.
6 What storage requirements are associated with computer
media?
The storage requirements that are associated with computer media are as
follow:
- Storage media should be kept in boxes which are safe and far
from direct sunlight and magnetic media.
- It should be kept in a box or cupboard which is fire proof
- It is better to keep a backup data in safe place far away from
real data.
Chapter 3 Maintenance practices
1 Why does equipment need to be maintained?
The equipment needs to be maintained because
- it help us to work properly and
- it help us to maintain smooth flow of operation with little downtime
2 What is the purpose of a maintenance schedule?
The purpose of a maintenance schedule is:
- to keep the system properly so that it can be found easily when
needed.
- to know about the warranty, date of service period, history of
equipment used and cost of the devices.
3 Why should you be careful what chemicals are used on
equipment?
We should be careful which chemicals are used for equipment because if
it is cleaned useing wrong chemical than that equipment may get damage
or sometimes it may not work properly. That’s why we have to put
chemicals carefully and gently.
4 What maintenance procedures are required for a mouse?
There are some ways to do these procedures likely
• unplug the mouse from the computer if it is a corded mouse
• remove the cover from underneath the mouse, turning in the
direction
• remove the roller ball from the mouse
• keep small amount of chemical and clean the rubber ball gently
• remove the dust from the cloth
5 What maintenance procedures are required for a keyboard?
There are some ways to maintain the keyboards are as follow:
• unplug the keyboard from computer
• vacuums the entire keyboard, pressing the keys down to allow
greater air flow
• follow the direction and spray compressed air
• slightly dampen a lint free cloth
• carefully wipe each key
6 What maintenance procedures are required for a computer?
There are some ways to maintain the computers are as follow:
• switch off the computer and unplug all the cables
• use a damp cloth
• gently wipe over the outer casing of the box
• dry the case with a soft, clean cloth
• open the computer case
• put on your antistatic wrist strap and place the alligator clip on the
chassis
• use vacuum
• use can of compressed air
• wait for few minutes
• lastly reassemble the box and plug the cables back in
Chapter 4 Problem diagnostics
1 Why should diagnostic functions be performed?
We should perform the diagnostic functions because
- it helps to find the problem easily as well as manually
- it will takes less time to fix the problem
- it will be simpler for the new user to solve the problem
2 When should you replace a faulty part?
We should replace a faulty part when it causes a problem in equipment
or the system malfunctions.
3 Why do software drivers need to be replaced?
We should replace the software drivers when there is no use of one
driver or the current driver does not work properly.
4. How does the device manager display faulty drivers?
Device manager displays faulty drivers when an yellow exclamation
question marks is seen in Device, when it is checked in a device manager
