COMMENTS FROM ET COORDINATOR
Ubiquitous access to laptops is changing the way students are learning at Seoul Foreign School. Students can be more
independent and self-directed. Their learning can be more individualised. They can use tools on their laptops to
2. communicate and work collaboratively. They can research, interpret and present information in new ways. They can
become aware of and involved in global issues. Most importantly, we can prepare our students for a future of constant
change.
Evidence for success factors
1.Technology is seamlessly embedded into the fabric of the student learning experience.
We have 1-to-1 laptops in G5/Y6, G6/Y7, G7/Y8, G9 and G10. We have also made many new devices and tools available
to all grades, for example touch devices and new subscriptions (particularly Google Apps).
2. All educators will use appropriate pedagogy, skills and knowledge to effectively embed educational technology in their
planning to enable students to achieve the SFS expected student learning results (ESLRs).
For the last two years we've given intensive training courses for teachers in the 1-to-1 laptop grades. Last year we offered
regular training opportunities for all teachers in using devices and subscriptions.
3. SFS will maintain and improve a learning-focused technology infrastructure that is reliable, supported and relevant.
Our IT team maintains our infrastructure which includes wireless access points, PowerSchool, Edline and an online help
desk, as well as many other servers and databases. Over the last two years the number of wireless access points has
been greatly increased and we know have cloud printers throughout the school.
4. All students and staff will have ubiquitous access to the appropriate tools of technology and information for learning.
As well as 1-to-1 laptops and other devices, there are computer labs and computer carts available throughout the school.
Staff also have many tools available such as MacBook Pros and SMART Boards, and many teachers have also been
provided with iPads. One of our goals this year is to plan a more unified provision of touch devices and other technology
across the school.
5. A commitment to professional development is critical to the successful use technology. It will be focused towards
improving the learning process and providing relevance to the student's world.
We have started offering many new opportunities for professional development such as technology sessions on teacher
work days, after school sessions with several schedule options, and intensive SMART Board training. One of our goals
this year is to offer more incentives for training, such as certificates and graduate credit.
6. Standards will exist to enable consistency in the provision of the educational process and facilities.
We are working towards a unified scope and sequence for technology skills across all divisions. Each division has
improved its technology curriculum mapping over the last two years.
7. Innovative use of technology will be encouraged and supported.
Last year we began audio and video podcasts to celebrate innovation, and also gave teachers opportunities to share
innovative ideas at division staff meetings.
8. Use of technology will be personalized as much as possible, in order to address different learning styles/needs and
rates of learning.
Classroom teachers and specialist computer teachers are expected to personalize their technology instruction, and
teachers are also able to personalize instruction through the use of our online learning environments such as Edline,
Edmodo and Haiku. One of our goals this year is to offer more personalized technology education across the school.
