5. 1. Sexual Propagation
• It is most common method of planting
• When the seed is mature and put in a good
environment, It will germinate or grow.
• It is cheaper and quicker. It also avoids
transmissions of diseases in plants and
trees.
6. 2. Asexual Propagation
• It involves taking or removing a part of a
parent plant and allowing it to
regenerate itself into a new plant. Here
are several methods of asexual
propagation.
a. Cutting
b. Layering
c. Grafting and budding
7. a. cutting
• The stem, root , or leaves of the parent
plant is cut or removed to grow another
plant. The stem or leaf cuttings are
placed under bright but indirect
sunlight.
8. b. Layering
• Some plants layer themselves naturally. But
there are times that plant propagators or
gardeners assist the process. Layering is done by
wounding one side of the stem; removing the
bark or outermost layer of the stem; and
covering the wounded part to produce roots.
9. c. Grafting and budding
• These are done by joining the parts of two plants
to grow together into one plant. One or more
part can be added to an existing plant. The
rootstock provides root of the new plant. The
cambium is a layer of cells located between the
wood and the bark of a stem from which a new
bark and wood cell grow.
