2. TYPE 1 : future conditional
To express a possibility in future. It’s a real conditional,
because there’s possibility to happen.
EXAMPLE :
1. If you study hard, you will be clever
( It means = You may be clever as long as you study hard.)
2. Toni will come if you invite him.
( It means = Toni will not come if you don’t invite him.)
IF + S1 + V.I , S2 + Will +V.I
(simple present) (modal)

3. If he is lazy, he will not be successful.
( It means = He may get success as long as he isn’t lazy.)
3. TYPE 2 : present conditional
To express unreal condition at present time. It’s impossible to
happen because it’s contrary to the fact. (only imagination)
EXAMPLE :
2. If he were not lazy, he wouldn’t be so stupid
( The fac t = He is very lazy, so he is very stupid.)
1. If you studied more seriously, you would be the best.
(The fact = you don’t study seriously, so you are not the
best.)
PATTERN :
IF + S1 + V.II / were , S2 + Would + V.I

4. TYPE 3 : past conditional
To express unreal condition in the past. It’s impossible to
happen, because it’s contrary to the fact in the past time.
IF + S1 + had + V.III , S2 + Would + have + V.III

2. She would have come to your party if you had invited her.
( The fact = She didn’t come to your party, because you
didn’t invite her.)
1. If he had been careful, he wouldn’t have got an accident.
( The fact = He was not careful, so he got an accident.)

1. If I were a bird, I would fly.

2. If you had told her the truth, she wouldn’t have
