Who Is The Antagonist In Hoot
Hoot Different people are motivated by different things, such as loyalty, kindness, greed, or glory. In
the book Hoot, Roy Eberhardt along with his friends Beatrice and Mullet Fingers try to stop a
pancake company from covering and killing the owls surrounding the company's new pancake store.
Motivation takes place when Roy, a boy who once hated his new town, Mullet Fingers, a juvenile
delinquent who desperately wants to save the owls, and Officer Delinko, a policeman not getting the
credit he deserves. The protagonist of Hoot, Roy was motivated to stop the owls from dying, no
matter the peril. At first, he hated the move to Florida because of the low plains and uncontrollable
heat, but after his help to the owls he decided that Florida wasn't such a bad place after all. Though
he put himself in the line of danger, the time spent doing the hazardous things was all for a good
cause, whether it was going with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The man behind the plan, he works hard to prevent Chuck from overtaking the owls' safety, ruthless
to the point where he would destroy the construction to insure the birds make it. For example, he
spray–painted Officer Delinko's car black to distract him from protecting the construction, proving
he would stop the pancake company at all costs. When the company hired guard dogs, Mullet
Fingers didn't stop there. He brought his cottonmouths and scared the dogs into a frenzy, delaying
the process. Like Roy, he did this not for his own benefit, but for the owls'. He felt their need of
help, and he spent many weeks aiding them. Though his change was small, he became more open to
other people, trying his best to build relationships as he did with Roy and his sister, Beatrice. His
kindness driving him to do the wrong for the right, Mullet Fingers shows a different motivation than
that of Officer Delinko's, different jobs creating different

Summary Of ' Our Heroes ' Tale '
*INSERT TITLE*
Our heroes ' tale begins in the small magical community of Enchantia, situated deep within the
Enchanted Rainbow Forest, far away from normal civilization. This forest is thick with massive
trees that bare a multitude of differently coloured leaves and vegetation as far as the eye can see.
Even though the forest is expansive, the vegetation manages to remain fairly well kept, giving off a
peaceful and calm vibe. Scattered throughout the forest are large caves (some containing treasure!)
and other small animal communities. But, this story is not about the other communities, it is about
Enchantia and its residents. In particular, the small green dragon who goes by the name of Grassy,
and her best friend: Fluffy, the tiny ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The idea that maybe they should leave their calm little community and go on the largest adventure
they could think of. It would lead them to new, interesting, exciting, and unexplored lands; lands
where they could live out their wildest dreams. They would have to venture into completely
unknown territory, that could potentially pose a threat to the two friends. But nonetheless they
decided that they would take the day to prepare and leave by morning of the next day.
Come morning, the duo of friends were both very eager to embark on this adventure. Since there
were no maps of this secluded area, they decided that to start this adventure they would pick a
direction and just walk until they found something interesting. After a few hours of talking, walking,
and occasional snacking, the two creatures stumbled upon the entrance of a large and somewhat
dark looking cave.
"I 'm not too sure I want to go in there Grassy, it looks pretty dangerous. What if we get hurt?"
Remarked Fluffy.
Grassy, being the more courageous one of the duo, managed to convince Fluffy by reminding her,
"We wanted an adventure right? Well, a dark and unexplored cave is the best place to start!"
"You know what Grassy, you're right. This cave looks rife with adventure!" And so, they entered the
cave, leaving all worry and hesitation behind them at the entrance.
After a few quiet minutes of walking down the cave, they reached the main cavern. The

My Grandpa Research Paper
I believe that most of us have heard the old saying, "that is like heaven on earth." I found my heaven
on earth on a quiet piece of wooded property that lays peacefully at the end of a curvy gravel road
that is covered by the shadows of tall maple and oak trees. The tunnel of trees will guide you to a
left turn off of the rock–ribbed road onto this plot of land, and you immediately feel relaxed. You are
on my Grandpa's land, a sizeable region of roughly 120 acres, a place I enjoy because of wooded
land, the fishing hole, and the sights history has left behind. The first thing you notice is the eight
perfectly planted rows of fifteen foot tall, bright green pine trees. The trees are hiding a trail
surrounded by purple wildflowers leading down into the woods. Off in the distance is the music that
draws you farther down the pathway, the birds singing, the wind blowing the leaves, the crickets
chirping, and the white–tail deer in the woods rustling around you. Fragrances from the bright
shades of purple, yellow, white, and red fill your nose as you descend to the lowest point of the trail.
This is the spot on the pathway where you notice, the pinnacle of my nirvana, the pond. ... Show

the fish are just some of the pieces of nature's orchestra. A small, gray, metal rowboat, with one oar,

Why Does Shakespeare Use Animals In Macbeth
Shakespeare is known for his remarkable plays. Many of which are considered to be tragedies. A
tragic play is designed to generate worry and tension in audience members. Shakespeare provokes
this fear by using dramatic irony or clues to enhance the audience's experience. This sort of writing
is what helps maintain tension throughout his plays. The use of dramatic irony can be seen in many
of Shakespeare's plays, especially throughout Macbeth. In this tragedy, Shakespeare uses animals to
symbolise the betrayal and malicious behavior seen in the characters of Macbeth. This gives the
audience another perspective on how evil corrupts the world around it. When Macbeth acted in a
malicious way the environment around him was affected, such as when ... Show more content on

Many female animals have a sense of protection over their babes. While some would leave behind
an unhealthy or injured babe for the sake of the pack, it is nearly never heard of for a mama to eat
her offspring. In Macbeth, the malicious behavior seen throughout the play affected even the truest
of nature. It is a natural instinct for a mom to protect, but when a mother pig, without a second
thought, eats her young it can leave an uneasy feeling. Shakespeare intended for this scene to
indicate to the audience the loss of humanity in Macbeth, himself. The idea of a mom betraying her
instincts and acting in a cruel and harmful way more deeply expresses how far Macbeth is willing to
go to achieve his personal desire. After this point, Macbeth is only viewed as a person without any
humanity, only destructive ambition. Shakespeare is willing to pulling at the audience's hearts to
drive home the corrupted path Macbeth has taken, while continuing to keep the audience in a state
of fearfulness. Shakespeare does this so the audience can have another perspective on the extreme
actions Macbeth has taken and the repercussions it has on the surrounding environment.

Analysis Of The Movie ' Hoot '
Introduction
The movie Hoot was created in 2006 based off the book that was originally written four years prior.
The main conflict of the movie was a disagreement between business expansion and environmental
protection. The story is set in the small town of Coconut Cove, Florida, where almost the entire
town is excited for a new pancake house named Mother Paula's. But what the public does not know
is that there is an endangered species of owls living in burrows right where the pancake house is
meant to be built. Three kids learn about the owls and make it their responsibility to make sure that
the pancake house is never built and the owls be protected. The company feels as though they have
the right to build on the property because they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The areas that are being considered are home to enough oil to last the country for 200 years, coal for
250 years, and natural gas for 120 years (McClatchy). If utilized, these natural resources would help
to boost the economy, and reduce domestic prices of oil and petroleum based commodities including
but not limited to; ink, nylon rope, dyes, crayons, deodorant, trash bags, shoes, and petrol. Not only
would the price of physical goods decrease, but also the price of energy, as most of it is created by
burning fossil fuels. Along with having a large effect on the economy, the expansion of the oil
industry would create an opportunity for employment for many citizens. According to a study
conducted by Wood Mackenzie, opening these lands to drilling both onshore and offshore, would
create approximately half of a million jobs (McClatchy). The new workers would receive a large
salary and this in turn would boost the economy. In 2011, the average salary for rig workers and
other industry personnel was $99,175 (Hargreaves). If half of a million employees earned the
average wage, it would put $49,587,500,000 into the hands of the consumers on an annual basis. To
achieve this vision, the government would need to lift its current restrictions on oil drilling in Arctic
Wildlife Refuge in Alaska, the Florida Gulf Coast, and almost all

The book I read was called Hoot. It was created by Carl Hiaasen in 2002, and won a Newberry
Honor 2003. It was largely based around envirementalism, and how we need to protect endangered

named Dana Matherson. Dana had mushed his face against the bus window when he saw an odd
boy, running barefoot on the street. He decided to chase the boy, but Dana kept grabbing him, he
punched Dana so hard that it breaks his nose. Roy then ran but got hurt by a golf ball and forfeit.

Napoleon Bridger As A Realistic Fiction
Genre For the genre, I decided to pick realistic fiction because I feel as if the story was so realistic
that it could be true because it isn't based on a true story or a true story at all so, therefore, it's
realistic fiction. The Characters Three major characters in this book were Roy Eberhardt, Beatrice
Leep, and Mullet Fingers aka Napoleon Bridger. Roy Eberhardt is a fourteen–year–old boy, who is
the new kid at Trace Middle. He was born in Detroit but grew up in Bozeman, Montana. He then
moved to Coconut Cove, Florida. He is an only child who is homesick for Montana but soon gets
over it as the story unravels. Mullet Fingers had blonde hair, tanned skin, and seemed to almost
never wear shoes. He was extremely quick when he was running and had phenomenal survival
skills. He acquired his nickname from his step–sister, Beatrice, who gave it to him because he could
easily catch a mullet fish (which is a very difficult fish to catch because of its slick and smooth
skin). It is later revealed in the book, that his actual name is Napoleon Bridger. Beatrice Leep is a
rugged girl who loves to play soccer. She is extremely tall and very strong. She has blonde, curly
hair and eyeglasses with red frames. When Roy first met her, he thought for sure she was an athlete,
because of her tan muscular legs. On the outside, she looks like a very tough, mean girl, but shows
that she can be sincere when she does everything to protect her brother at different points of the
book. In the

Hoot Movie Analysis
Have you ever seen the movie, Hoot? If you've not seen the movie, then you are missing out on a
really fun time. The movie Hoot is a really popular movie! This movie is about three, young
teenagers helping endangered owls. People want to build another Mother Paula's Pancake House
over the owl's home, which is illegal. Towards the end of the movie Mullet Fingers, Beatrice, and
Roy throw together a big meeting to tell everyone about the owls. Everyone noticed how cute the
owls were and how the kids were right all along. The three musketeers have a goal to find a way to
save the owls. This movie is a really good movie! Nobody would have probably thought of the
ending turnout. I personally thought that the three little kids were good actors. They really know
what they are doing! The director, Wil Shriner really knows how to train his characters. These actors

That was very nice. Cops like that deserve a reward! The one part I didn't like was when the boss of

disgusting. I mean who would do such a thing? Another part I didn't like in the movie was when, a
bully named, Dana, pushed Roy around. He eventually learned his lesson not to touch Roy again.
These are some things I liked and disliked of the movie Hoot. Anyways, the movie Hoot is a really
good movie! I hope that my mom will buy it for me. This movie was so good, that when I got home

worth it! I really hope you get a chance to watch the movie Hoot sometime in your

Comparing Hoot Film and Novel
Hoot
Among many books that were written and later made into films, the relation between the two can be
vastly different, or practically identical. Though there are many similarities between the novel Hoot
written by Carl Hiaasen, and the film directed by Wil Shriner, there are some differences as well. As
a young man, Roy Eberhardt was a strange individual. Hoot, both the film and the novel, are based
on a boy's new life in Coconut Cove, Florida. As most would expect, starting a new life in a place
that you've never been before, isn't exactly a cup of tea. Roy grew up being the nerdy, low self–
esteemed loser of all groups. But after being successful in making a few friends here and there, they

In the film, it's Roy's father whom tells Roy to do the same actions. In the novel, when Officer
Delinko's police car was spray–painted as an act of rebellion, he was sleeping in a restaurant parking
lot and was awoken by his boss to talk about the incident. However, in the film, the whole scene at
the restaurant was cut out and went directly to Officer Delinko confronting his boss in his office.
Officer Delinko is an officer in the Coconut Cove police department. He is described as being
"young" and "loyal" by his boss and his dad. He is the leading, as known as only officer
investigating the vandalism at the Mother Paula's All–American Pancake House construction site,
though his personal items, such as his police squad car begin to be vandalized as well. Along with
this particular incident, when Officer Delinko's police car was spray–painted in the novel, he was
given a replacement squad car for the amount time that it would take for repairs to be completed and
during the film, he was given a "golf cart type" vehicle to drive until his personal car was finished
being repaired. During the film, when Roy had claimed to had been bitten by a vicious dog, he told
the staff his name was Ling Ho, but in the book his told them his name was Tex. In both stories, the
hospital later found out that he had been faking the scenario and was released back into his parents'
custody. One major flaw within the novel plot was it was

Symbols And Motifs In Macbeth
In the drama Macbeth by William Shakespeare, Shakespeare uses symbols and motifs to
demonstrate how Macbeth's ambition leads him to corruption. For example, immediately after Lady
Macbeth has set up the murder of King Duncan and is relishing her triumph, she declares, "Hark!
Peace! / It was the owl that shriek'd, the fatal bellman, / Which gives the stern'st good–night"
(II.ii.2–4). This is an example of the symbol of animal imagery as Lady Macbeth describes the
shriek of the owl, which represents of the motif of death for the reason that the owl's hoot
superstitiously foretells fatality. Additionally, this ties into the idea that ambition leads to corruption
as in this scenario, the hoot of the owl signifies Duncan's murder, committed by Macbeth

Motifs In John Steinbeck's Of Mice And Men
Throughout the novella, Of Mice and Men, Steinbeck's use of motif reveals the theme that
friendship is an important part to living a fulfilling life . Lennie has just run away due to the fear that
he would no longer be able to tend the rabbits. He had this fear because he had just killed Curley's

The Hero's Short Story: The Walk Home
Ferric couldn't remember the walk home from school. Perhaps because his mind was too busy
planning or maybe, it was the urgency he felt in collecting every smooth, flat stone along the
hillside. But before he knew it, he was in front of the hut with an assortment of rocks knocking
around in the apron of his shirt. He couldn't go in and let his mother see that he intended to stockpile
the slingshot pellets, so he found a stick and dug a small trench along the outside wall and buried his
prize. "Ferric, is that you?" His mother called. "What are you doing?" "I'm drawing a map in the

they had climbed the trail to the top, King Kelorth paused and looked out. Seen from the platform at

The Case Study Of Ethiopi What About Preservice Teacher...
II. The Case Study of Ethiopia: What About Preservice Teacher Training?
In signing the UN Convention on the Rights of a Child (Office of the United Nations High
Commissioner for Human Rights, 2004), Ethiopia agreed to implement free, compulsory, universal
primary education by 2015. The abolition of school fees for primary schooling in Ethiopia was
integrated into the Poverty Reduction Strategy Plan (PRSP) in 2002. This change was viewed as a
positive development by various stakeholders, including parents, teachers, and government
representatives. However, in Ethiopia, the effects of the abolition of school fees saw a minimal
increase in enrolment rates. Thus, the goal of UPE in Ethiopia is especially challenging considering,
"current access to such education is about 67% for primary school–age boys and 47% for primary
school–age girl...[and]...enrollment rates in rural and remote regions, where 86% of the population
resides, are even lower because of the absence of schools near these communities." However,
although the abolition of school fees saw some improvements in enrolment rates, the lack of proper
educational planning and capacity building in Ethiopia has caused other burdens in the educational
sector. Thus, although many countries have decided to abolish school fees, the experiences in
Tanzania and Ethiopia, has proven that many challenges remain leading to consequences on the
quality of education delivered. In the case of Ethiopia, the biggest barrier to achieving

Giles Corey Character Analysis
"He did not give a hoot for public opinions" was a statement told by Giles Corey in The Corey. This
was told in Act one where we were learning about characters and their traits. The more and more I
read about Giles Corey, the more of me I saw inside of him. The reasons why Giles Corey and I are
so similar is avoiding public opinions, loyal to friends, and we both have a strong will. Being able to
overlook the public opinion is a unique feature Giles and I have. In act one, it states that "He did not
give a hoot for public opinions". Giles always stuck with what he wanted to do. I also do something
much like him where if a group of people think of one thing, doesn't mean I have will agree with
them. For instance, Everyone around me wants Trump to be president, but I'm not that big into
politics, especially with these two politicians, so I stick with my opinion and not go with the crowd.
There has also been where I wanted to go do something buy my friends wanted to do something
else. I still do what I want, but I don't mind what they are doing. Not only do Giles Corey and I don't
care about Public Opinions, but we also are very loyal to the people close to us. ... Show more

Newberry Honor for 2003. It is largely based on environmentalism, and protection of endangered
species. At the beginning, Roy was being harassed by a large, unseemly bully named Dana. On the
street, there was a eerie boy, who ran extremely fast. Roy had moved to Coconut Cove from
Montana, which he was extremely disappointed about. Meanwhile, Coconut Cove, was getting a
new pancake house, but it has been delayed because of vandalism. Curly, the foreman on the plot, is
reporting the quandaries to Officer Delinko, a local police officer. While reporting the issues, Officer
Delinko trips in a hole. Officer Delinko takes irony in Curly's nickname. He ... Show more content

Officer Delinko, while patrolling the site, falls into an owl den. He hears a laugh, but it was actually
an owl. He pondered on what would happen if he continued on with the construction. At breakfast,
Roy hears about the ground–breaking ceremony of Mother Paula's, he took it to school so he can
give a report about it. The principal calls Roy into her office and interrogates Roy to find some
information about Dana. Afterwards, later in the day, Roy gives out a report about the owls, and how
the permits from the company are missing from City Hall, and how the owls are endangered, if the
company continued, as of a result, the owls will be harmed. The students are motivated. Officer
Delinko expresses his thoughts, and asks Curly about the owls. Once again, Curly pretends there are
no owls on the lot. The next day is the ground–breaking, and Roy wants to attend, he pleaded for a
note to get out of school. The day before, Roy had asked Mullet Fingers for some pictures of the
owls, and when he went to school that day, Beatrice had also gotten one and the pictures.
Afterwards, it is the groundbreaking ceremony, and Chuck Muckle, and Kimberly Lou Dixon,
Mother Paula spokesperson and actor, came to the ground–breaking

Brandeis Hoot: Investigative Journalism
During my time at Brandeis, I have been exposed to a number of experiences in the realm of
journalism that have formed my confidence to continue pursuing submersion in the field as an intern
at the API. My ultimate goal is to polish my abilities and to put my knowledge and previous
experience into practice through this internship.
My experience commenced writing for The Brandeis Hoot, one of the university's newspapers, in
the arts and opinions' sections. I covered play reviews, art galleries, concerts, and other school arts'
events; my op–eds are mostly ethnographic pieces and bring awareness to campus regarding the
current social issues that are affecting the Brandeis community and/or in general. I have written
about diverse issues such as LGBTQ issues, DACA students, and women in STEM, just to name a
few. Currently, I write in the opinions' section of The Justice, another Brandeis' newspaper

Super Cavitation Research Paper
What is super cavitation? To understand this question another needs to be asked. This question is
what is cavitation? Cavitation is the forming of small pockets of gas under water. These gas pockets
are formed when an area of low pressure is created at a constant temperature which in turn forms
gas bubbles that then rapidly collapse with immense force and heat. The heat and pressure of the
collapsing cavitation bubbles can reach up to 5,000 degrees Celsius and 1,000 atmospheres or in
other words almost the same amount of pressure as there is at the bottom of the ocean. Cavitation is
a serious problem when looking at underwater machinery that can form and area of low pressure.
This is because if cavitation occurs damage will be done to the machines. When cavitation occurs

As was stated above it is caused in several different ways. One is through heat evaporating water
creating a gas pocket. Another is through pure speed and shape. The final is using propellers to form
areas of low pressure to start cavitation and form a super cavity. All of these methods work and there
is no real way to argue which method is the best as there are more ways currently being created but
all of them work it's just a matter of find out how to make them work efficiently. Using heat to
vaporize water could work but only if there is a method to deliver enough heat fast enough and for a
long period of time otherwise it will only work for a short distance. Propellers could work on a
greater scale but they would have to get increasingly larger and more powerful as size went up.
Speed and shape alone could also work but a source of speed such as a rocket is needed and the
source of the speed also must last a long time otherwise the object will only be able to travel short
distances. Only time and more experimentation will create a more efficient form of super cavitation
that is easily created and

Hoot Summary
The book Hoot starts off with a middle school boy named Roy riding the bus. When Roy was on the
bus that morning a bus mate named Dana Matherson was messing with him, so it caused him to look
out the window. When he looked out the window he saw a boy. According to Roy, "The boy was
straw blond and wiry, and his skin was nut brown from the sun". But what really caught Roy's
attention was the fact that he was running on the sidewalk with no shoes. Roy keeps his eye on him
until he doesn't see him anymore. That same morning a police officer named David Delinko gets
sent to the construction site where Mother Paula's All– American Pancake House is going to be

that it's owls that make the wholes. According to Curly the owls are about the size of a beer can and
they live under ground. Later on, Roy couldn't stop thinking of the boy, so he started looking around
school to see if he would spot him but nothing. Roy even asked about him at lunch with his friend
Garret but again nothing. The next morning, Roy is on the bus and starts paying attention outside the
window to find him but nothing. Roy looks for him day after day until a Friday he saw him. The bus
stops and Roy tries to get off the bus and run after him. But before he could get out Dana grabs him
by the neck and starts choking him. Roy was trying to get out desperately so he punches him in the
face while breaking his nose. Finally, Roy gets loose and runs after the boy, but after he could catch
up with the boy someone threw a golf ball to his head. He gets caught by the school so they suspend
him from the bus for two weeks and they make him write an apology letter to

Personal Essay: Bullying And Abuse
When I was growing up, it was hard for me to make friends and keep them in my life. I either would
unintentionally push them away or they would be turned off by everything that I did online whether
it would be on Twitter or Facebook. I wanted to be like everybody else while not being able to find
myself in this world. It made my school years difficulty as I would often be an easy target for
bullying and abuse by my fellow students at L. Douglas Wilder Middle School.
The years from 2006 to 2009 were the worst three years of my life. I contemplated suicide, running
away from home, and even murdering my fellow students and then being killed by the police. I

I'm proud to have it because it makes me who I am and I feel like I'm just as special as the rest of the

Many different species of animals are threatened by harmful chemicals and pollution that hinder
said species literal existence. DDT, PCBs, organophosphate pesticides, and mercury, for instance,

Theme Of Hoot By Carl Hiaasen
Hoot by Carl Hiaasen tells the story of Roy, an eighth grade teenager who, after moving to Coconut
Cove Florida, finally feels at home, especially with a Mother Paula's Pancakes joint opening up
nearby. Until Roy finds that the construction of this new pancake joint will end up destroying the
habitat for the burrowing owls, an endangered species. Roy then teams up with some unlikely allies
to save the burrowing owls, from destruction. The theme of rebellion is most clearly demonstrated
through the author's use of characters, conflict and motif. In Hoot, the character of Roy shows his
rebellion though his resistance of the school bully, Dana Matherson. In the story, Dana has picked on
Roy since day one, but Roy constantly refuses to cower like everyone else on the bus to school.
"Every time he moved from one place to another, Roy encountered a whole new set of bullies and
goons. He considered himself an expert on the breed. If he stood his ground, they usually backed
down or looked for someone else to hassle" (Hiaasen 95). This quote characterizes Roy as a

"He did not give a hoot for public opinions" was a statement told by Giles Corey in The Corey. This
was told in Act one where we were learning about characters and their traits. The more and more I

so similar is avoiding public opinions, loyal to friends, and we both have a strong will. Being able to
overlook the public opinion is a unique feature Giles and I have. In act one, it states that "He did not
give a hoot for public opinions". Giles always stuck with what he wanted to do. I also do something

Drunk With Fatigue Poetry Analysis
Through the poems Dulce et Decorum est Pro patria mori and Futility, Wilfred Owen uses the theme
horror of war to convey the horrific mental and physical terrors that roamed WW1. Wilfred Owen
emphasises on the mental and physical effects that war causes, dehumanisation and the loss of faith
which resulted in Owens mind.
Owen uses imagery in the poem Dulce et decorum est pro patria mori to demonstrate the terrible
mental and physical effects that the war causes to the men. 'Drunk with fatigue;' helps to convey the
exhaustion and suffering that the men have to endure through their time at war. The use of this
metaphor depicts the tiredness of these soldiers. They are compared to being under the effects of
alcohol, which leads to the lack of coordination and awareness of their surroundings. Wilfred Owen
uses the semicolons to expand his sentences to add more depth into his description of the horror of
war that the soldiers are going through and facing through. Continuing from the previous quote 'deaf
even to the hoots' demonstrates that the soldiers are no longer affected by the sound of the bombs
shooting through the sky because they have been living with it for years on a day to day basis and
are officially used to it. Owen also expresses the use of onomatopoeia through the word 'hoots'. ...

Roy is a good friend to Mullet Fingers before he even meets him. This is one example of how Roy

beside the school bus. Roy thought he was running to get to the bus on time. However, he wasn't
wearing shoes or a backpack. Later on, Roy follows him and decides to give him a pair of his shoes.
Here is another good example of Roy's friendship with Mullet Fingers. Later on in the story, Roy
gets to know a little bit more about Mullet Fingers. Beatrice Leep tells Roy that Mullet Fingers'
mom and her dad met at a golf tournament and decided to get married. His mom thought he was a
bother to her new husband so she sent him to a military school. Within the first two weeks of school,
Mullet Fingers ran away and went back home. His mother tried to send him to several other
boarding schools and he ran away from them, too. Finally, he ran away and didn't come home. His
mother noticed that he ran away but didn't want to do anything about it. Her husband didn't even
notice the tuition bills stopped coming! Beatrice and Mullet Fingers made Roy swear to keep all of
this a secret. This is another example of Roy being kind to Mullet Fingers. Sadly, Mullet Fingers

Gene And Betty Hoot Case Summary
The Burger King of Florida v. Gene and Betty Hoots of Matoon, IL. Case
The Hoots had remodeled a parking garage and turned it into a restaurant specializing in
hamburgers, calling it, "Burger King." They registered Burger King with the state of Illinois as a
trademark, only to learn later that Burger King was a federally registered trademark of Burger King
of Florida. Unable to reach an agreement, the case went to federal court.
In a highly anticipated decision, the federal 7th Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that since Burger
King of Florida had a federal registration, they had rights to the trademark anywhere in the United
States except the area of Mattoon, where the Hoots had maintained previous authentic use.
Therefore, the Hoots were allowed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After plaintiffs opened a restaurant in Champaign, Illinois, defendants sued in the state court to
restrain plaintiffs' use of the mark in Illinois. Plaintiffs then brought the federal suit, now before us,
and the defendants counter–claimed for an injunction, charging plaintiffs with infringement of their
Illinois trade mark.
The district court found that Burger King's property right in the trademark was superior to Hoots's
because of the natural expansion of Burger King's business throughout Illinois but that Hoots still
had the right to use its trademark in the area in which it first adopted it innocently without notice of
Burger King's competing trademark. Hoots appealed.
The district court concluded, from the unchallenged findings, that plaintiffs' federal registration is
prima facie evidence of the validity of the registration and ownership of the mark; that plaintiffs
have both a common–law and a federal right in the mark superior to defendants' in the area of
natural expansion of plaintiffs' enterprise which "logically included" all of Illinois, except where
defendants had actually adopted and used the mark, innocently, i. e., without notice and in good
faith; and that the defendants had adopted and continuously used the mark in the Mattoon area
innocently and were entitled to protection in that

they took themselves because the metermaid was too small. The last day in the book and movie
were very different. In the book at the groundbreaking ceremony Roy tried to show a picture Mullet

beginning of the day Mullet finger got in an owl burrow. As mullet fingers laid in the ground a

and said to the man about to dig in the ground, "You'll have to go through me first." The movie on
the other hand Mullet Fingers catches Chuck Muckle ( the Vice President of mother Paula's) and
trapped him in a fish net. Roy and Beatrice found Mullet Fingers and Chuck in the trailer at the

Who Is The Antagonist In Hoot

  • 1. Who Is The Antagonist In Hoot Hoot Different people are motivated by different things, such as loyalty, kindness, greed, or glory. In the book Hoot, Roy Eberhardt along with his friends Beatrice and Mullet Fingers try to stop a pancake company from covering and killing the owls surrounding the company's new pancake store. Motivation takes place when Roy, a boy who once hated his new town, Mullet Fingers, a juvenile delinquent who desperately wants to save the owls, and Officer Delinko, a policeman not getting the credit he deserves. The protagonist of Hoot, Roy was motivated to stop the owls from dying, no matter the peril. At first, he hated the move to Florida because of the low plains and uncontrollable heat, but after his help to the owls he decided that Florida wasn't such a bad place after all. Though he put himself in the line of danger, the time spent doing the hazardous things was all for a good cause, whether it was going with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The man behind the plan, he works hard to prevent Chuck from overtaking the owls' safety, ruthless to the point where he would destroy the construction to insure the birds make it. For example, he spray–painted Officer Delinko's car black to distract him from protecting the construction, proving he would stop the pancake company at all costs. When the company hired guard dogs, Mullet Fingers didn't stop there. He brought his cottonmouths and scared the dogs into a frenzy, delaying the process. Like Roy, he did this not for his own benefit, but for the owls'. He felt their need of help, and he spent many weeks aiding them. Though his change was small, he became more open to other people, trying his best to build relationships as he did with Roy and his sister, Beatrice. His kindness driving him to do the wrong for the right, Mullet Fingers shows a different motivation than that of Officer Delinko's, different jobs creating different ... • 11. Summary Of ' Our Heroes ' Tale ' *INSERT TITLE* Our heroes ' tale begins in the small magical community of Enchantia, situated deep within the Enchanted Rainbow Forest, far away from normal civilization. This forest is thick with massive trees that bare a multitude of differently coloured leaves and vegetation as far as the eye can see. Even though the forest is expansive, the vegetation manages to remain fairly well kept, giving off a peaceful and calm vibe. Scattered throughout the forest are large caves (some containing treasure!) and other small animal communities. But, this story is not about the other communities, it is about Enchantia and its residents. In particular, the small green dragon who goes by the name of Grassy, and her best friend: Fluffy, the tiny ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The idea that maybe they should leave their calm little community and go on the largest adventure they could think of. It would lead them to new, interesting, exciting, and unexplored lands; lands where they could live out their wildest dreams. They would have to venture into completely unknown territory, that could potentially pose a threat to the two friends. But nonetheless they decided that they would take the day to prepare and leave by morning of the next day. Come morning, the duo of friends were both very eager to embark on this adventure. Since there were no maps of this secluded area, they decided that to start this adventure they would pick a direction and just walk until they found something interesting. After a few hours of talking, walking, and occasional snacking, the two creatures stumbled upon the entrance of a large and somewhat dark looking cave. "I 'm not too sure I want to go in there Grassy, it looks pretty dangerous. What if we get hurt?" Remarked Fluffy. Grassy, being the more courageous one of the duo, managed to convince Fluffy by reminding her, "We wanted an adventure right? Well, a dark and unexplored cave is the best place to start!" "You know what Grassy, you're right. This cave looks rife with adventure!" And so, they entered the cave, leaving all worry and hesitation behind them at the entrance. After a few quiet minutes of walking down the cave, they reached the main cavern. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. My Grandpa Research Paper I believe that most of us have heard the old saying, "that is like heaven on earth." I found my heaven on earth on a quiet piece of wooded property that lays peacefully at the end of a curvy gravel road that is covered by the shadows of tall maple and oak trees. The tunnel of trees will guide you to a left turn off of the rock–ribbed road onto this plot of land, and you immediately feel relaxed. You are on my Grandpa's land, a sizeable region of roughly 120 acres, a place I enjoy because of wooded land, the fishing hole, and the sights history has left behind. The first thing you notice is the eight perfectly planted rows of fifteen foot tall, bright green pine trees. The trees are hiding a trail surrounded by purple wildflowers leading down into the woods. Off in the distance is the music that draws you farther down the pathway, the birds singing, the wind blowing the leaves, the crickets chirping, and the white–tail deer in the woods rustling around you. Fragrances from the bright shades of purple, yellow, white, and red fill your nose as you descend to the lowest point of the trail. This is the spot on the pathway where you notice, the pinnacle of my nirvana, the pond. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The sounds of the bullfrogs, "ribbiting", and the splashing of the fish are just some of the pieces of nature's orchestra. • 15. Why Does Shakespeare Use Animals In Macbeth Shakespeare is known for his remarkable plays. Many of which are considered to be tragedies. A tragic play is designed to generate worry and tension in audience members. Shakespeare provokes this fear by using dramatic irony or clues to enhance the audience's experience. This sort of writing is what helps maintain tension throughout his plays. The use of dramatic irony can be seen in many of Shakespeare's plays, especially throughout Macbeth. In this tragedy, Shakespeare uses animals to symbolise the betrayal and malicious behavior seen in the characters of Macbeth. This gives the audience another perspective on how evil corrupts the world around it. When Macbeth acted in a malicious way the environment around him was affected, such as when ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many female animals have a sense of protection over their babes. While some would leave behind an unhealthy or injured babe for the sake of the pack, it is nearly never heard of for a mama to eat her offspring. In Macbeth, the malicious behavior seen throughout the play affected even the truest of nature. It is a natural instinct for a mom to protect, but when a mother pig, without a second thought, eats her young it can leave an uneasy feeling. Shakespeare intended for this scene to indicate to the audience the loss of humanity in Macbeth, himself. The idea of a mom betraying her instincts and acting in a cruel and harmful way more deeply expresses how far Macbeth is willing to go to achieve his personal desire. After this point, Macbeth is only viewed as a person without any humanity, only destructive ambition. Shakespeare is willing to pulling at the audience's hearts to drive home the corrupted path Macbeth has taken, while continuing to keep the audience in a state of fearfulness. Shakespeare does this so the audience can have another perspective on the extreme actions Macbeth has taken and the repercussions it has on the surrounding environment. (Shakespeare, ... • 19. Analysis Of The Movie ' Hoot ' Introduction The movie Hoot was created in 2006 based off the book that was originally written four years prior. The main conflict of the movie was a disagreement between business expansion and environmental protection. The story is set in the small town of Coconut Cove, Florida, where almost the entire town is excited for a new pancake house named Mother Paula's. But what the public does not know is that there is an endangered species of owls living in burrows right where the pancake house is meant to be built. The areas that are being considered are home to enough oil to last the country for 200 years, coal for 250 years, and natural gas for 120 years (McClatchy). If utilized, these natural resources would help to boost the economy, and reduce domestic prices of oil and petroleum based commodities including but not limited to; ink, nylon rope, dyes, crayons, deodorant, trash bags, shoes, and petrol. Not only would the price of physical goods decrease, but also the price of energy, as most of it is created by burning fossil fuels. Along with having a large effect on the economy, the expansion of the oil industry would create an opportunity for employment for many citizens. According to a study conducted by Wood Mackenzie, opening these lands to drilling both onshore and offshore, would create approximately half of a million jobs (McClatchy). The new workers would receive a large salary and this in turn would boost the economy. In 2011, the average salary for rig workers and other industry personnel was $99,175 (Hargreaves). If half of a million employees earned the average wage, it would put $49,587,500,000 into the hands of the consumers on an annual basis. Napoleon Bridger As A Realistic Fiction Genre For the genre, I decided to pick realistic fiction because I feel as if the story was so realistic that it could be true because it isn't based on a true story or a true story at all so, therefore, it's realistic fiction. The Characters Three major characters in this book were Roy Eberhardt, Beatrice Leep, and Mullet Fingers aka Napoleon Bridger. Roy Eberhardt is a fourteen–year–old boy, who is the new kid at Trace Middle. He was born in Detroit but grew up in Bozeman, Montana. He then moved to Coconut Cove, Florida. He is an only child who is homesick for Montana but soon gets over it as the story unravels. Mullet Fingers had blonde hair, tanned skin, and seemed to almost never wear shoes. He was extremely quick when he was running and had phenomenal survival skills. He acquired his nickname from his step–sister, Beatrice, who gave it to him because he could easily catch a mullet fish (which is a very difficult fish to catch because of its slick and smooth skin). It is later revealed in the book, that his actual name is Napoleon Bridger. Beatrice Leep is a rugged girl who loves to play soccer. She is extremely tall and very strong. She has blonde, curly hair and eyeglasses with red frames. When Roy first met her, he thought for sure she was an athlete, because of her tan muscular legs. On the outside, she looks like a very tough, mean girl, but shows that she can be sincere when she does everything to protect her brother at different points of the book. In the ... • 27. Hoot Movie Analysis Have you ever seen the movie, Hoot? If you've not seen the movie, then you are missing out on a really fun time. The movie Hoot is a really popular movie! This movie is about three, young teenagers helping endangered owls. People want to build another Mother Paula's Pancake House over the owl's home, which is illegal. Towards the end of the movie Mullet Fingers, Beatrice, and Roy throw together a big meeting to tell everyone about the owls. Everyone noticed how cute the owls were and how the kids were right all along. The three musketeers have a goal to find a way to save the owls. This movie is a really good movie! Nobody would have probably thought of the ending turnout. I personally thought that the three little kids were good actors. They really know what they are doing! The director, Wil Shriner really knows how to train his characters. These actors are made the movie so good! ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... That was very nice. Cops like that deserve a reward! The one part I didn't like was when the boss of the Pancake House was trying to spray the owls with a fire extinguisher. That part was very disgusting. I mean who would do such a thing? Another part I didn't like in the movie was when, a bully named, Dana, pushed Roy around. He eventually learned his lesson not to touch Roy again. These are some things I liked and disliked of the movie Hoot. Anyways, the movie Hoot is a really good movie! I hope that my mom will buy it for me. Though there are many similarities between the novel Hoot written by Carl Hiaasen, and the film directed by Wil Shriner, there are some differences as well. As a young man, Roy Eberhardt was a strange individual. Hoot, both the film and the novel, are based on a boy's new life in Coconut Cove, Florida. As most would expect, starting a new life in a place that you've never been before, isn't exactly a cup of tea. Roy grew up being the nerdy, low self– esteemed loser of all groups. In the novel, when Officer Delinko's police car was spray–painted as an act of rebellion, he was sleeping in a restaurant parking lot and was awoken by his boss to talk about the incident. However, in the film, the whole scene at the restaurant was cut out and went directly to Officer Delinko confronting his boss in his office. Officer Delinko is an officer in the Coconut Cove police department. He is described as being "young" and "loyal" by his boss and his dad. He is the leading, as known as only officer investigating the vandalism at the Mother Paula's All–American Pancake House construction site, though his personal items, such as his police squad car begin to be vandalized as well. Along with this particular incident, when Officer Delinko's police car was spray–painted in the novel, he was given a replacement squad car for the amount time that it would take for repairs to be completed and during the film, he was given a "golf cart type" vehicle to drive until his personal car was finished being repaired. During the film, when Roy had claimed to had been bitten by a vicious dog, he told the staff his name was Ling Ho, but in the book his told them his name was Tex. In both stories, the hospital later found out that he had been faking the scenario and was released back into his parents' custody. One major flaw within the novel plot was it was ... • 31. Symbols And Motifs In Macbeth In the drama Macbeth by William Shakespeare, Shakespeare uses symbols and motifs to demonstrate how Macbeth's ambition leads him to corruption. For example, immediately after Lady Macbeth has set up the murder of King Duncan and is relishing her triumph, she declares, "Hark! Peace! / It was the owl that shriek'd, the fatal bellman, / Which gives the stern'st good–night" (II.ii.2–4). This is an example of the symbol of animal imagery as Lady Macbeth describes the shriek of the owl, which represents of the motif of death for the reason that the owl's hoot superstitiously foretells fatality. Additionally, this ties into the idea that ambition leads to corruption as in this scenario, the hoot of the owl signifies Duncan's murder, committed by Macbeth ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He couldn't go in and let his mother see that he intended to stockpile the slingshot pellets, so he found a stick and dug a small trench along the outside wall and buried his prize. In signing the UN Convention on the Rights of a Child (Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, 2004), Ethiopia agreed to implement free, compulsory, universal primary education by 2015. The abolition of school fees for primary schooling in Ethiopia was integrated into the Poverty Reduction Strategy Plan (PRSP) in 2002. This change was viewed as a positive development by various stakeholders, including parents, teachers, and government representatives. However, in Ethiopia, the effects of the abolition of school fees saw a minimal increase in enrolment rates. Thus, the goal of UPE in Ethiopia is especially challenging considering, "current access to such education is about 67% for primary school–age boys and 47% for primary school–age girl...[and]...enrollment rates in rural and remote regions, where 86% of the population resides, are even lower because of the absence of schools near these communities." However, although the abolition of school fees saw some improvements in enrolment rates, the lack of proper educational planning and capacity building in Ethiopia has caused other burdens in the educational sector. Thus, although many countries have decided to abolish school fees, the experiences in Tanzania and Ethiopia, has proven that many challenges remain leading to consequences on the quality of education delivered. Cavitation is the forming of small pockets of gas under water. These gas pockets are formed when an area of low pressure is created at a constant temperature which in turn forms gas bubbles that then rapidly collapse with immense force and heat. The heat and pressure of the collapsing cavitation bubbles can reach up to 5,000 degrees Celsius and 1,000 atmospheres or in other words almost the same amount of pressure as there is at the bottom of the ocean. Using heat to vaporize water could work but only if there is a method to deliver enough heat fast enough and for a long period of time otherwise it will only work for a short distance. Propellers could work on a greater scale but they would have to get increasingly larger and more powerful as size went up. Speed and shape alone could also work but a source of speed such as a rocket is needed and the source of the speed also must last a long time otherwise the object will only be able to travel short distances. The theme of rebellion is most clearly demonstrated through the author's use of characters, conflict and motif. In Hoot, the character of Roy shows his rebellion though his resistance of the school bully, Dana Matherson. In the story, Dana has picked on Roy since day one, but Roy constantly refuses to cower like everyone else on the bus to school. Drunk With Fatigue Poetry Analysis Through the poems Dulce et Decorum est Pro patria mori and Futility, Wilfred Owen uses the theme horror of war to convey the horrific mental and physical terrors that roamed WW1. Wilfred Owen emphasises on the mental and physical effects that war causes, dehumanisation and the loss of faith which resulted in Owens mind. Owen uses imagery in the poem Dulce et decorum est pro patria mori to demonstrate the terrible mental and physical effects that the war causes to the men. 'Drunk with fatigue;' helps to convey the exhaustion and suffering that the men have to endure through their time at war. The use of this metaphor depicts the tiredness of these soldiers. They are compared to being under the effects of alcohol, which leads to the lack of coordination and awareness of their surroundings. Wilfred Owen uses the semicolons to expand his sentences to add more depth into his description of the horror of war that the soldiers are going through and facing through. Continuing from the previous quote 'deaf even to the hoots' demonstrates that the soldiers are no longer affected by the sound of the bombs shooting through the sky because they have been living with it for years on a day to day basis and are officially used to it. • 67. Gene And Betty Hoot Case Summary The Burger King of Florida v. Gene and Betty Hoots of Matoon, IL. Case The Hoots had remodeled a parking garage and turned it into a restaurant specializing in hamburgers, calling it, "Burger King." They registered Burger King with the state of Illinois as a trademark, only to learn later that Burger King was a federally registered trademark of Burger King of Florida. Unable to reach an agreement, the case went to federal court. In a highly anticipated decision, the federal 7th Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that since Burger King of Florida had a federal registration, they had rights to the trademark anywhere in the United States except the area of Mattoon, where the Hoots had maintained previous authentic use. Therefore, the Hoots were allowed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After plaintiffs opened a restaurant in Champaign, Illinois, defendants sued in the state court to restrain plaintiffs' use of the mark in Illinois. Plaintiffs then brought the federal suit, now before us, and the defendants counter–claimed for an injunction, charging plaintiffs with infringement of their Illinois trade mark. The district court found that Burger King's property right in the trademark was superior to Hoots's because of the natural expansion of Burger King's business throughout Illinois but that Hoots still had the right to use its trademark in the area in which it first adopted it innocently without notice of Burger King's competing trademark. Hoots appealed. The district court concluded, from the unchallenged findings, that plaintiffs' federal registration is prima facie evidence of the validity of the registration and ownership of the mark; that plaintiffs have both a common–law and a federal right in the mark superior to defendants' in the area of natural expansion of plaintiffs' enterprise which "logically included" all of Illinois, except where defendants had actually adopted and used the mark, innocently, i. e., without notice and in good faith; and that the defendants had adopted and continuously used the mark in the Mattoon area innocently and were entitled to protection in that ... Did you think it was a disgrace to the author and illustrator? Well Hoot the movie and Hoot the book are just like that. The book Hoot is very good but you couldn't tell that by the movie; they are so different. In the first scene of the movie, Officer Delinko asked Curly (the construction site manager) "Why are there so many holes?" Curly replied, "There are holes.Okay!" He got bit by dogs trying to put snakes on the construction site. In the book Officer Delink took Roy's parents to the hospital, but in the movie, they took themselves because the metermaid was too small. The last day in the book and movie were very different. In the book at the groundbreaking ceremony Roy tried to show a picture Mullet Finger took of an owl, but it was to blurry to make out so it did not look like an owl, at the beginning of the day Mullet finger got in an owl burrow. As mullet fingers laid in the ground a burrowing owl flew down on his head. Roy, Beatrice and many others stood around Mullet finger and said to the man about to dig in the ground, "You'll have to go through me first." The movie on the other hand Mullet Fingers catches Chuck Muckle ( the Vice President of mother Paula's) and trapped him in a fish net. Roy and Beatrice found Mullet Fingers and Chuck in the trailer at the construction site. The groundbreaking ceremony was about to begin; Roy looked through all of the files. • 75. Essay On George And Lennie Friendship "The remedy [for the Great Depression] is to give workers the access to the means of production, and let them produce for themselves, not for others,..the American way." –Upton Sinclair Jr., author of The Jungle and other works. America in the 1930s is a haunting reminder of one of the most desperate times Americans faced in our country's history. Both Sinclair and John Steinbeck, author of Of Mice and Men, give their consumers a reality check about the Depression as well as showing what lengths people would go to to survive. Steinbeck reveals many truths about the Great Depression as well as emphasizes on the rarity of true friendship by using the basic needs of man and the duality between characters in Of Mice and Men and amongst these ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... George, at one point, dwells upon an account in which he abused, horribly so, his authority over Lennie and decided, in his retrospect, to never do so again due to him realizing just how much authority he has. Steinbeck emphasizes on George and Lennie's relationship with each other being more complex than just George being the brains and Lennie being the brawn, "I was feelin' pretty smart. I turns to Lennie and says, 'Jump in.'... He damn near drowned before we could get him, An' he was so nice to me for pullin' him out. Clean forgot I told him to jump in. Well I ain't done nothing like that no more(Steinbeck 40)." The duality between George and Lennie is a very distinct part of their personalities as well as giving their relationship a sense of irony. George, a small lithe man who is as smart as a whip, and Lennie, a tall stocky giant with a terrible memory. Some might have thought that the gentle giant would have been the caretaker but it s really George, who has been doing it almost their entire lives. Their friendship is also rare do to it being uncommon within the 30s of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
