1. Informative And Surprising Essay Topics
Crafting an essay on the subject of "Informative and Surprising Essay Topics" can be quite
challenging yet intellectually stimulating. The difficulty lies in the delicate balance required to
present information in an engaging manner while maintaining the element of surprise. Selecting
a topic that is both informative and surprising adds an extra layer of complexity, as it demands a
thorough understanding of the subject matter and the ability to unearth intriguing facts or
perspectives.
The challenge begins with the initial brainstorming phase, where one must delve into a vast array
of potential topics. It requires creativity to identify subjects that not only captivate the reader's
interest but also offer an element of unexpectedness. Once a topic is chosen, the research process
becomes crucial. In-depth exploration is necessary to uncover fascinating details that will both
inform and astonish the audience.
The actual writing phase demands a skillful blend of information dissemination and narrative
finesse. It's crucial to structure the essay in a way that seamlessly integrates facts and surprises,
maintaining a logical flow that keeps the reader hooked. Striking the right balance is a delicate
art; providing too much information without surprise can lead to a dull essay, while too much
emphasis on the surprising element may compromise the informative aspect.
Additionally, maintaining the element of surprise requires a nuanced approach to storytelling and
presentation. Writers must strategically unveil surprising facts or insights, strategically placed
throughout the essay, to maintain a sense of discovery for the reader.
In conclusion, composing an essay on "Informative and Surprising Essay Topics" involves
navigating through the intricacies of topic selection, in-depth research, and the delicate art of
blending information with surprise. It is a challenging yet rewarding task that requires a
combination of creativity, research skills, and adept storytelling. For those seeking assistance

2. Essay About Pluto
Pluto was normally accustomed to living with the feeling of a vast pool of
darkness. However, that all changed once he met Proserpina. She shocked everyone
when she created a spark that was like an unusual light in his eyes that no on had
ever seen before. Whenever Proserpina was in his presence, he grew kinder to those
around him. Before Proserpinalived with Pluto, she once before lived with her
mother Ceres, the goddess of harvest. She grew up alongside nature so being taken
to the underworld; a place where living things always died came as a huge shock
to her at first. Instead of the warmth felt when the sun rose, she felt a coldness
engulf her, as it was always set. The goddess of harvest quickly grew sad with the
unnerving loss of her daughter, which resulted in her not doing her job that was to
create food for the Earth. Hours turned into days turned into months until she came to
the solution to share her daughter with Pluto.

At first Ceres was mad and didn t want to help spread harvest to the underworld but
one look at how happy her daughter was to be back in Pluto s hold was enough for
her to work her magic and reverse all the dead things to grow and stay alive. Ceres
had her own quarter in the castle over the span of the months she stayed in the
underworld that was filled with colors and happiness. Pluto was overjoyed for the
first time in his life to be able to be with his love and rule over the dead. As for
Proserpina, she couldn t imagine life without Pluto and even though the months
absent from her mother were difficult, Pluto was always there for her. The
underworld was still filled with the dead and attainted its original idea for what it was
suppose to be but it did hold life to it for the people who deserved to be
3. Summary Of Junot Diaz s Instructional Manual
An individual s identity is strongly influenced by their ethnic background and the
environment that surrounded them. Due to this, a majority of the world will
perceive a person differently and create stereotypes, which then compels them to
treat others differently in order to accommodate to that person. In Junot Diaz s
instructional manual, How to date a brown girl (black girl, white girl, or halfie) ,
he depicts different scenarios of dates in the perspective of a boy who is Latino and
from the Terrace, a ghetto neighborhood. He talks about the different ways to treat a
girl based on their raceand what neighborhood they came from, as well as the
various reactions each kind of girl will make. He categorizes an insider as Latino or

In the same situation of possibly meeting the boy s acquaintance, an outsider will
choose to react contrary to an insider, as described by the narrator, If the girl s an
outsider she will hiss and say, What a f*** asshole (Diaz 2). By doing this, she is
being more conservative about her actions towards people who come from a
different neighborhood than her, because an outsider should not create a situation
that they will not be able to handle. Moreover, by being an outsider, she feels
intimidated visiting an area where she is not familiar with the people and the
environment. Furthermore, even before meeting, an outsider s parents will feel
discomfort taking their daughter to an unfamiliar area, as the narrator claims, Neither
of them want her seeing any boys from the Terrace (Diaz 1). Compared to an insider
that is accustomed to the Terrace, an outsider has difficulty being comfortable in this
area because they are used to being insiders in their own neighborhood, not in a
different one. Even the narrator can see that encountering others from the Terrace
makes an outsider feel somewhat uneasy, considering they are not familiar with the
people. So due to the fact that they feel insecure staying within this environment
displays how they are seen as outsiders to those who live in the

Courage essay
In The Time of The Butterflies there were three sisters that would gain courage to
fight for their rights and to get rid of Trujillo. They knew what they what they were

to fight for their rights. The three sisters from the story were Mate, Minerva, and
Dede. Dede did not have as much courage as her sisters but throughout the book she
builds some.
Patria is one character that also shows courage throughout book. At the beginning
of the book Patria doesn t show a lot of courage. Patria was really questioning about
if she should join or not. She didn t show a lot courage because her husband was
really in control of her and he didn t want her to join the revolution. One day Patria
saw a young boy get shot who was around the same age as her son. After she saw a
boy get shot she gained courage and started to fight for her rights and she tried to
make stuff better for her and her family.
Minerva was a character that showed a lot of courage in the book. At the beginning

Business strategy drives organizational strategy and IS strategy. The organization and
its Information System should clearly support defined business goals and objectives.
Organizational strategy and IS Strategy must complement business strategy and also

6. The Lice Short Story
A Home for the Lice Have you ever wanted to know why lice chose people and why
they chose our hair? Well, I have an explanation for it. I have the story of all of
their adventures. It all starts from the beginning of time. From the start, lice have
always loved jungle like places. For example, grass. That is where they
commenced. They loved it there, they built forts, food storages, and all sorts of
things. That is until the bug came around. It had wings the size of the grass and
claws the size of three blocks of dirt. This may not sound very big to us humans, but
to lice, the size of dust, it was terrifying. Anyways, the bug would raid their forts and
destroy everything. So the lice packed up what they had left and went off in search
of another place to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some lice were hopeful, but some were hopeless for they had such terrible luck.
The weary lice first went to the lips. That didn t work out because the lips were
constantly moving, shaking lice families off to the ground. Also when the women
put on lipstick the lice would become trapped in what seemed like quicksand. The
lice packed up and went to the nose. Many of the lice adored it there. It was the
perfect climate for them. Unfortunately they moved there in the winter when the
humans had colds. Sneezes were like a hurricane, runny noses were like
mudslides, and a blowing nose was like a tsunami. They shortly decided it wasn t
safe for them to live there. Once again they packed up and left. Their next stop was
the eyelashes and eyebrows. It wasn t very hairy or concealing, but it had to work
for the time being. They quickly found this would not work either. Humans would
pluck their eyebrows and pluck the lice out with them. They would also put mascara
on their eyelashes causing the lice to be stuck in what felt like tar. The worst part
was the crying. It was like a tsunami similar to the nose, but 10 times worse. The
desperate lice loaded up their things and
7. Comparing Two Cultures As An Insider
This portion will compare two cultures from an emic perspective. I will examine
similarities and differences within the two cultures as an insider, solely based on my
personal experiences and scholarly research. I will express cultural relativism
throughout this portion of the paper and will refrain from using opinionated or
judgmental language. Prior to learning about these cultures I had preconceived
thoughts about these cultures with little to no knowledge, not only from an etic
perspective, but also from not being an insider. It took first hand experience for me to
understand practices and rituals of their cultureand reasoning s behind them. Having
an open mind and not passing judgment on another social group are two things that
enabled me to have a sense of understanding when learning about different societies
and cultures. The people of the Middle Eastregion live a simple life much like the
majority of Americans, except for the lack of electricity, running water and
technology, depending on the locality of the social group. Families farm their land
growing sources of food and poppy to trade and barter with others within the
community. The households that live in the more rural regions rely on their land and
harvest for survival. Living with the local populace of the Helmand Province of
Afghanistanfrom October 2009 to May 2010, I learned a lot about the Afghani culture
and the challenges the members of the Helmand Province community face daily with

8. My Role Model In Life
As my father, Ladislao Trakal, one of my only role models in life, settles down
onto the couch, he reminisces about his college experience over a cup of coffee.
The same father who brought me to life, yet different than what he used to be. He
seems as though he were remembering a dismal time in his life, represented by the
lugubrious expression on his face, but one would soon discover that his woes were
only because of the challenges that he had to overcome throughout his timein college.
Now let us start from the beginning...
My father, like most students, had the choice of what job he would want to
partake in for the rest of his life. Due to his extreme ability to deal with technology,
my dad made a decision: to work the life of the computer and the cubicle and leave
aside any other field. Coming from a Hispanic background in the small but lively
country of Argentina, Trakal knew everyone and everyone knew him. From having
only one library in his town to being under a dictatorship until 1983, things weren t
as easy as they are now considering education and the effect technology has on it
today. Education those days was better and the biggest difference with nowadays is
that every student has a library at their feet, stated Trakal who was always extremely
fond of the unique technology sprouting during his teenage years. Apart from
attending a technical high school, Trakal would often spend long hours with his
family and friends getting together, barbecuing, and mostly

EFFICIENT WASHING MACHINES
INTRODUCTION
The federal government s energy star program was established in 1992 by the
Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). This program is voluntary and started in
order to save businesses and families save money. This program has many companies
investing in energy efficient projects to help boost the market. While promoting these
products, the energy star program also helps to reduce energy consumption and
pollution. Along with saving energy, it helps to reduce greenhouse gases. Reducing
the greenhouse gases contributes to the health of individuals and the environment
surrounding them. This will hopefully control the climate changes brought on by the
emission of such gases and strengthen our economy (Energy Star, 2014).
BODY
High efficiency washing machines help families cut energy and water costs
(Energy Star, 2014). These machines are front or top loading with a larger tub
capacity. Families are able to wash fewer loads which enables them to use less
water. Companies continue working on their models to save more money. Washers
made after 2003 are more efficient. If your washer is more than ten years old, you
should look into purchasing a newer model (Energy Star, 2014). Washing machines
did not earn the Energy Star label until 1997 (Mother Earth News, 2010). When
comparing the how much energy the models use, you need to look at the yellow
EnergyGuide label. This tells you how much energy each load of laundry uses and the

Homelessness in America

Homelessness is an arising problem within the United States. Poverty and
homelessness are inheritably linked. As children we were raised to believe that
through hard work and determination that we could accomplish anything. We all
had dreams of having nice cars, a nice home and lots of money, however this is
impossible when a person is living pay check to pay check and close to being
homeless. Knowing that we live in the land of opportunity brings many dreams to
anyone s mind, however, many families are experiencing financial issues that are
causing them to become homeless because they cannot afford to live and pay their
bills, food, child care, health care and education (National Coalition of the homeless,
2007). Homelessness in America is persistent, complex and widely occurring
problem that incorporates many economic, social and psychological dimensions
(National Coalition of the homeless, 2007). With the shortage of affordable rental
property is causing the increasing number of poverty families. Homelessness doesn t
only affect an adult but it does affect many children. In America, 3.5 million
Americans are homeless each year. However, of these Americans that are homeless
children make up more than 1 million people who are homeless (Home Aid America ,
n.d.). With children and many families that are homeless, veterans, and domestic
11. Oppressed Women In The 1800s
A Repressive Society
For years, women have fought to get equal rights and create a society were women
and men are treated the same way. During the 1800s, society viewed men as the
person that was in charge of everything in the house, and he owned everything his
wife had, while women were just an object that was supposed to obey and please her
husband. Society during the 1800s caused Chopin to write about the issues that
women were suffering to create a change.
In the 1800s, society oppressed women in every aspect of their lives. Women did
not have an option when it came to going to work because they were always forced
to stay at home. According to the Cobblestone, women They devoted their lives to
caring, cooking... for their family and did not have time to pursue a career (Chorlian

women was to be at home and the role of a man was to work for their family.

not. Furthermore, all of a wife s inheritance belonged to the husband when they got

was normal back in the 1800s for women to lose everything the had and forget about
their needs to please their husband for their entire

13. The Treatment Of Bulimia Nervosa
Author: Haley McDaniel, Pharm.D. Candidate
Date Answered: November 2, 2015
Question:
47. Should topiramate be considered for the treatment of bulimia nervosa?
Answer: The drug Topiramate is a sulfamate substituted derivative from the
monosaccharide D fructose that is known for its anticonvulsant and antimigraine
actions.1 Therefore, it is helpful for patients with seizures and migranes. Epilepsy is a
specific example of what this drug is used to treat. Topiramate is different from other
antiepileptic drugs because it is thought to block the spreading of seizures instead of
lowering the threshold like other antiepilepsy drugs. 2 Although the exact mechanism
that Topirmate cannot be identified, it is currently being observed from biochemical
studies. Scientist have observed that the drug blocks voltage dependent sodium
channels, augments the activity of gamma aminobutyric acid, antagonizes the AMPA
/kainite subtype of glutamate receptor, and inhibits carbonic anhydrase. 1 Should this
medicine be used to treat bulimia nervosa? Bulima nervousa is a disease that causes
patients to engulf large amounts of food in a short amount of time, which then
causes them to take action by purging or taking laxitives to get rid of the large sum
of food they consumed. 3
There was a study that used a randomized, Double Blind, Placebo Controlled Trial,
to test if Topiramate had an effect on the behavior, body weight, and quality of life
related to health in patients suffering from
14. Contamination In Gasland
Water contamination is a recurring theme in Wyoming. Encana Corporation, a natural
gas company in Wyoming, has planted over 50 oil wells in Pavillion Field,
Wyoming, and uses hydraulic fracturing, a technical machine that blasts a mix of
water and chemicals 8,000 feet into the ground, to drill for natural gas. During this
process, more than 596 chemicals are used and are deposited into groundwater, some
chemicals being potentially toxic. In regards to being transparent with the chemicals
that they use during hydraulic fracturing, Encana Corporation does not disclose this
information, and local residents who live nearby Pavillon Field learn the hard way, in
which they discover that their healths become negatively impacted and that their water

I also find it morally incorrect for the state government, despite listening to the
complaints of the people, to ignore the people s cry for safe drinking water while
investing interest in how hydraulic fracturing will produce capitalism for the
economy. The local residents of Wyoming whose rights to safe drinking water are
deprived center in on the analytical framework of Carolyn Merchant s argument in
her article, Interpreting Environmental History. According to Merchant, some key
themes in environmental history is the use of power and justice, as well as our
consciousness. For instance, in the case of the local residents in Wyoming, residents
face injustice as they are being deprived of their right to safe drinking water. Not only
that, but the costs to hydraulic fracturing are health hazards and water that is unfit for
consumption for residents; whereas, natural gas companies and state government
benefit from hydraulic fracturing because of the increased natural gas production,
source of capitalism being made from these drilling activities, and thousands of jobs
produced for people. And natural gas companies are conscious of how they are
negligent in responding to the complaints of residents in Wyoming; even now,
Encana Corporation and other natural gas companies

Headbanger s Roots To those who have not been exposed to other genres besides
mainstream music, I am hoping to give you some insight on a headbanger s roots.
With new metal bands popping up in local cities, it s important to understand the
history behind the genre. Like every other genre, heavy metal can be traced back
to it s roots, to the moment where everything changed and turned into something
that will continue to affect people for years to come. It caused an uproar first in
England, and then spread like wildfire to all four corners of the world. Heavy
metal was a musical revolution that brought together diverse groups of people
while influencing new genres, ideas, and lifestyles worldwide Heavy metal was
created in the late 1960 s. One of the most influential bands in this genre was, and
continues to be, Black Sabbath. This band paved the way for hundreds of subgenres
after their time. Black Sabbath originated in Birmingham, England where Ozzy
Osbourne, Tony Lommi, Geezer Butler, and Bill Ward formed a band originally
named The Polka Tulk Blues Band. Around this time, their town was going through
an economic depression where unemployment was rising and working class factories
were being shut down. Because of their angst, they filled their songs with horror
inspired lyrics, political corruption, the dangers of drug
16. Compare Romeo And Juliet And Brave New World
Shakespeare has been a large influence on modern day life for decades. His use of
language, heritage, psychology, and history has influenced directors, artists, writers,
students, and so many more individuals in their everyday lives.. In Brave New
World, the author, Aldous Huxley makes many references and allusions to multiple
excerpts of Shakespeare s plays over the entire course of the novel. While he
references a lot of Shakespeare s plays, many quotes come from Romeo and Juliet,
The Tempest, and Hamlet. In Brave New Worldcomparisons can be made through
quotes and similar character analysis . Shakespeare had a large influence on
Huxley s novel through his different themes of love and romance, and his use of
using main characters to represent past characters in Shakespeare s plays. Romeo
and Juliet is referenced multiple times in Brave New World. This play, in short, is
your classic love story. Romeo falls in love with Juliet but they are not allowed to be
together because of their families. Romeo and Juliet has two main themes: innocence
and romance accompanied by a very intimate relationship. Both of these themes can
be seen in Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeareas well as Brave New World by
Aldous Huxley. Shakespeare s idea of innocent romance is heavily influenced by
John throughout the novel concerning his romance with Lenina. Oh the white
wonder of dear Juliet s hand, may seize and steal immortal blessing from her lips,

17. Comparison Of Hester Prynne And Original Sin
Nathaniel Hawthorne s, The Scarlet Letter, is a novel that portrays the Christian
beliefs of Original Sin. Much like Adam and Eve, Hester Prynne was a woman who
was ostracized from society due to her relationship with Arthur Dimmesdale.
Throughout her expulsion, Prynne gains sympathy for the poor, donating all of her
income to help them. The sympathy that Prynne gained is similar to the knowledge
that Adam and Eve gained about the good and evil in the world because in both
stories, the characters gain knowledge as a result of their sin. Similarly to The Scarlet
Letter, The House of the Seven Gables is based upon the Christian belief of Original
Sin. Characters like Judge Pyncheon and Clifford suffered due to the sins of Colonel

Judge Pyncheon died a very similar death to the one of Colonel Pyncheon and
lived a life full of anger and greed. Because the Colonel led a life filled with sin, his
descendants lived a life in which they had a tendency to sin and die a painful
death. Not only were the Colonel and the Judge similar in appearance, but also in
their personalities. Both men were very power hungry, malevolent people who
were willing to sin in order to get what they wanted. Clifford was a man who shared
no resemblance to Colonel Pyncheon, except his last name. He, much like Matthew
Maule, was punished for a crime that he did not commit by a Pyncheon. Clifford is
left to suffer from the sins of Colonel Pyncheon because of the imprisonment and
poor mental state that his death caused him. Being the accused murderer of
Colonel Pyncheon, Clifford was sent to prison where he was forced to suffer poor
living conditions for 30 years. Though Clifford did not die as a result of Original
Sin, he was still hurt by the wrongdoings of Colonel Pyncheon. Alice Pyncheon was
another innocent person affected by the Colonel s sins. As a young girl, Alice was
hypnotized by Matthew Maule and was forced to do what he wanted. While in her
trance, Maule made Alice communicate with her ancestors in an attempt to find the
lost deed for the land in Maine that Colonel Pyncheon hid. As Pyncheons were known
to do, Alice died a devastating death. While walking home, Alice died from

18. Alfredo Cuaron Children Of Men
Children of Men
Children of Men is a science fiction film directed by Alfonso Cuaron, taking place
in 2027 where, for 18 years, infertility has collapsed society, and refugees flock to
the last sanctuary in England. The film follows the action and surroundings around
Theo , a man who is tasked with protecting Kee and her baby, the first pregnancy in
over 18 years from different sources. Children of Men is a film that explores
humanity s social conflicts, like the immigration of refugees, government oppression,
and infertility all while following these problems around people. However Director
Cuaron breaks from the standard narrative conventions by not settling on a specific

The film makes a strong statement with people as the mode instead of just objects
as well, for example the anti immigration feelings lead to refugees being caged up,
deported, and executed to express the chaos and fall of society. It also shows the
desolation of humanity and is especially highlighted with the cinematography close
ups. When Kee first reveals her pregnancy she is in a pose similar to a painting of
Venus, while also in a barn reminiscent of the nativity. One important conclusion from
Children of Men is that the narrative never answers the question of what lead to
infertility, instead of questioning why women cannot become pregnant, the viewers
are able to see motifs and parallels to modern day society.
The prospect of infertility is a motivation that carries with it more than just the
inability to have children, underlying this are the emotional connections, sense of
purpose, and a future. Therefore infertility not only means the absence of children,
but worse the absence of hope and sense of purpose.
20. Rhetorical Devices In Sojourner Truth
According to Sojourner Truth, women are just as equal to men and they should
have just as many rights and privileges as any man. She draws a picture of her
equality to men by professing her strength and hard working efforts. Right away,
Truth s first goal is to establish a sense of identity and relationship with her
audience. She describes events where she has faced discrimination as a black
woman to trigger an emotional response. Truth juxtaposes the ideal way man says
women should be treated with her own personal reality saying, Nobody ever helps
me into carriages, or over mud puddles, or gives me the best place! By pointing out
the existence of hypocrisy, Truth invites the audience to realize possible injustices
in their own lives, which should encourage them to want change and seek to take
action against discriminators. Sojourner plays on the emotions of her audience to
their attention and their willingness for change by shedding light on her own
vulnerable experiences to which they can relate. With the successful use of
rhetorical devices, persuasive techniques and Biblical allusions, Truth effectively
persuades the audience that there is a difference in the treatment of women,
especially in comparison to women of color. Skillfully, Truth s argument, both the
organization and use of rhetoric s are effective. In her speech, Truth first presents
her argument by describing scenarios of different tasks men can do to which she is
just as capable of doing herself. Truth evokes emotion and excitement through
continuous repetition of her infamous question and aint I a woman? Her
exclamation of this fact states her belief in her own self deserving rights to
equality. With the repetition of this profound question, Truth continues to build on
her audience as they too should feel equally deserving of rights and freedom from
prejudice and discrimination. She allows her audience a chance to try and connect
with her feelings and understand her trials especially as a black woman. Even
though we cannot physically hear Truth s message, from her tone we can pick up
emotions of anger, high energy and the severity of her case, building as she repeats
her very well noted question, aint I a woman . Overall, her tone

Pediatric patients in hospital settings are unquestionably in a defenseless position and
are highly reliant on nurses to provide for their individual needs. In the poem above,
not only was the pediatric patient s needs met, but also the nurse showed caring
qualities that made the patient feel comforted. As a pediatric nurse, caring is a quality
that is imperative to include along with nursing interventions to provide holistic care
for a patient. Caring holds significant value to us professionally. We believe caring is
an essential characteristic in nursing. Without this characteristic, one will not be able
to care for a patient effectively. Patients we work with deal with many different

By researching more about the caring theory, it may change some nurses perception
about implementing caring more within their nursing practice. Researching more
about caring and how to implement it can be essential when dealing with a difficult
patient or family member. A concept analysis is used to evaluate the development of
nursing concept by identifying gaps in nursing knowledge, determining the need to
refine or clarify a concept when it appears to have multiple meanings, evaluating the
adequacy of competing concepts in their relation to other phenomena, examining the
congruence between the definition of the concept and the way it has been
operationalized, and determining the fit between the definition of the concept and its
clinical application. Caring has been investigated, researched and studied in various
methods, this concept analysis paper will clarify vague or ambiguous concepts and
identify and classify the caring theory. Applying the caring theory to pediatric nursing
can help improve patient outcomes in several areas. One goal using the caring theory
is to apply the caring theory along with medical oriented nursing in the hospital to
help increase compliance among transplant pediatric patients on immunosuppressant
therapy. Second goal is to incorporate the caring theory when taking care of suicidal
pediatric patients to help decrease the number of readmissions for suicidal attempts.

The People s Hospital applies corporate governance in the management of the

Commitment of the Chief Executive Officer of the hospitalto this objective, in

factor that questioned the adherence to corporate governance. My father was given
wrong medication that worsened his health state and complicated his recovery
process.
More specifically in my fathers case he had to be transferred to the ICU from a
medical surge unit in which he remained for nearly a week. The change in my

Genocide
There is a universal belief that everyone has fundamental rights, regardless of race,
sex, nationality, ethnicity, language, religion, or any other status. These rights are not
dictated by a permanent authority and this allows for a great deal of disagreement
regarding what human rights are. Generally, these rights are recognized as to include
right to life and liberty, freedom from slavery and torture, freedom of opinion and
expression, the right to work and education, and many more. When a state fails to
protect its citizen s fundamental human rights, it presents democratic countries with a
no win situation. They are often faced with the choice of being a bystander to these
grave injustices or intervening, which could lead to another country s safety, but at
the same time costing you man power, money, and political power. One of the most
prominent examples of a country acting as a bystander to grave injustices was during
the Rwandan Genocidewhen the United refused to act because it could safely avoid
the humanitarian crisis at no political cost. At the time of the crisis, editorial boards
of the major American newspapers discouraged U.S. intervention during the
genocide. They, much like the administration, deplored the genocide but believed, in
the words of a Washington Post editorial, The United Stateshas no recognizable
national interest in taking a role, certainly not a leading role. Washington was silent.

Why do I like jack the ripper? That is a very hard question. It s so many reasons.
Jack was a mystery. I find it so fascinating how he killed five women, but didn t get

s fascinating. Since the first murder found place in 1888, many authors have made
stories about Jack. And it has been made stories in many different styles. From
biography s, to essays, to crime novels. Therefore I find it difficult to write about just
one authors writing style. So I have decided to write about the characteristic from the

The government may also use monetary policy in order to contain economic growth.
Monetary policy refers to changes in interest rates in order to influence aggregate
demand and economic activity. Monetary policy is conducted by the Reserve Bank
of Australia, who use domestic market operations in order to change interest rates. If
the RBA takes a loose monetary policystance the RBA will purchase Commonwealth
Government Securities in secondary bond markets. This increases the cash in the
markets, and therefore pushes the overnight cash rate down. Interest rates will be
lowered, which will result in higher consumer demand as the cost of interest on
mortgages and credit card repayments will decrease. On the other hand a tight

Microeconomic policies promote the efficient operation of markets as the most
effective mechanism for achieving efficient allocation and use of resources, raise
productivity and increase aggregate supply. Increased aggregate supply will result in
decreased inflationary pressures and increased international competitiveness as
Australian producers are able to supply international markets with a greater volume of
goods at lower prices. Greater export earnings will consequently improve Australia s
terms of trade, and will decrease the current account deficit. Microeconomic reforms
that promote increased competition in both domestic and international markets will
also encourage greater innovation and cheaper product, which will benefit consumers.
Increases in productivity and aggregate supply will also result in improvements in
labour productivity. Higher productivity and greater export earnings will result in
wage increases for Australian labour, and subsequently living standards will improve.
As a result of higher wages, aggregate demand will increase thus creating further
opportunities for increases in

Literary Analysis of A Doll House In A Doll House by Henrik Ibsen, Nora, one of
the main characters, borrows money from Krogstad, in efforts to save her
husband, Helmer s life. Nora does this unthinkable act of the era, behind Helmer s
back and keeps it a secret until Krogstad threatens Nora. In this literary work Nora,
confronts a private passion of independence that ultimately conflicts with the
current responsibilities of a woman in the era. Ibsen shows Nora s character
development dramatically throughout the work in which she finally realizes the
Doll House she s been living in. When Nora borrowed money from Krogstad it was
in efforts to save her husband. This passion got her in trouble because it went
against her responsibilities as a wife. Helmer was a very prideful man. Having his
wife do his biddings would embarrass him. Borrowing money was also a big thing
that Helmer absolutely was not okay with. Never Borrow! (1715), was what he
told her when they were talking about debt and what ifs. Helmer still doesn t know
that Nora had already committed this heinous crime. It s already known at the bank

Historical amendments of the CRA III
CRA I
The regulation and supervision of the CRAs in the European Union (EU) have
become an increasingly prominent realm of European financial market regulation
since the aftermath of the financial crisis. The CRA regulation is to be considered the
fundamental legal act on which the EU s regulation on CRAs is built.
The CRA I requires the registration of a credit rating agency and supervision of the
EU CRAs to be performed by competent authorities of the Member state holding the
office of the relevant CRA. In order to protect the investors and to maintain a stable
financial system only the ratings issued by such CRAs or the ones satisfying the

Subject to these conditions the regulation allows the financial institutions in the EU
to rely on ratings issued by non EU registered CRAs for regulatory purposes
provided the rating derives from a regulatory regime endorsed by EU registered CRA.
The rating activities of the non EU CRAs to comply with the requirement of the
regulation is determined by the endorsing agency however the regulation provides
that the endorsement must not be used to avoid the regulation.
Furthermore, in order to cater for systemically unimportant CRAs for the financial
stability of markets of one or more member state, a special certification regime for
non EU agencies with no presence in EU is also established under the regulation. The
effect of such certification enables ratings issued by such agencies to be used for the
purpose of regulation by financial institutions within the community without the need
for endorsement subject to conditions under Art 5(6) which also confers the power to
the commission if necessary to amend the criteria for determining the equivalence of
the regulatory and supervisory framework established outside of EU to those
established by the regulation. The regulation also requires the facilitator to establish
between competent authorities of member state and those of third country CRAs an
arrangement for information exchange and supervisory coordination.
30. Both Sides of Legalizing Marijuana
As many of us know, marijuana has been legalized in Washington and Colorado for
recreational use. According to polls and predictions, Oregon may be one of the up
and coming states to legalize it next. But here comes to question, Should marijuana
be legalized? Why or why not? There are many pros and cons to this situation, and
they all affect not just our state but our country as a whole. That is exactly why I
chose this topic. Since middle school, there has been talk about whether marijuana
should be legalized or not. What good or harm will that do? There are two very
different sides to this, but both of which make much sense. Now that some states
have legalized marijuana, I am interested in seeing what people think about it now.
Have things changed or do they remain the same? How has this change affected us
both positively and negatively? It s situations like these that will affect my
generation and those to come. That is why it is important to soak in all of the
knowledge you can, instead of staying ignorant to these issues. Marijuana is illegal
in most cities in our country because of the effect it has on the human body. When
marijuana is inhaled, THC is released into our bloodstream, brain, and organs. THC
levels affect parts in the brain that focus on pleasure, memory, thinking, and
coordination. Due to this, marijuana can cause long term damage to one s brain. Or
at least that s what they want us to believe. There are no real cases where someone
has suffered severe

Before a serious investigation of any aspect of Aristotle s political theories is

doctrines he defends have been repudiated in modern political thought. In fact many
such institutions are appalling and simply morally wrong. One such institution is
slavery. Aristotleargues in the Politics that slavery is just. No argument is needed to

remainder of the paper will include discussion and commentary on the validity of
Aristotle s defense of slavery, including both criticisms as well as limited support for
the logical consistency.
The Context of Slavery in Aristotle s Time:
As theory cannot escape the social, economic and political of the time in which it
was developed, one cannot truly consider critiquing Aristotle s natural theory of
slavery without some knowledge of slavery in Aristotle s world. First and foremost,
slavery was ubiquitous. Furthermore, they were employed not only as household
servants and stewards, but in Aristotle s Athens, they are worked in the fields, the
mines, as craftsman, traders, secretaries, accountants, teachers, doctors, public
servants, and participated in the arts. Hence they were indispensable for satisfying
the needs of Athenians of even modest affluence. The perfect household was one
that had slaves (Politics 1253b 4). Without their exploitation, the middle and upper
classes good life would cease to exist. Moreover, the Aristotelian, ideal citizen would
not be free to engage in the rational activities prescribed. While Aristotle s defense of
slavery can be considered morally repugnant to

Angiogenesis a fundamental physiological process entailing the creation of new

degeneration. Vascular endothelial growth factor receptor 2 (VEGFR2) plays an
important role in angiogenesis as it implements microvascular permeability and
neovascularization in response to vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) binding

The study corroborates the ability of genome editing to abrogate angiogenesis,
however, some caveats must be addressed before considering this treatment for
clinical use in humans. Safety remains a primary concern because genome editing is
irreversible and any detrimental off target mutations could impair cell function.
Further, the viral delivery system could be threatening to the public, therefore, a non
viral platform can be developed to progress its clinical application. Nonetheless, the
study s findings tackle other safety aspects to support its clinical use. For example,
the study reported that CRISPR/Cas9 treatment did not affect any off target
sequences. Optical examinations of the mice used in the study revealed that the
intravitreal injection did not modify retinal structure and function.
Even though the CRISPR/Cas9 system is not a new phenomenon, the novelty of this
research lies in the intervention of gene editing in intraocular pathological
angiogenesis. Abnormal angiogenesis is characteristic of diseases associated with
blindness affecting millions of people of all ages. Since CRISPR/Cas9 technology
produces a permanent genetic alteration, it

A common mindset individuals may have is that our lives are defined by our
environment and what is on ahead of us in a daily basis. It is a wide held belief that
our surroundings affect our ideology and the way we live our daily lives to a vital
extend. In On Hobit , Alain De Botton embeds our perspective, the idea of an
individual having control over their life, but it is at odds when he questions the
stance individuals have on their lives. Throughout the essay, it becomes apparent that
although our environment may greatly affect the atmosphere of who an individual
becomes, the most important factor should be the way the environment is perceived.
One must allow themselves to find value within the small details of life. We have

Abstract
This paper will dive into four common unwarranted assumptions made from ability
grouping (student tracking) and attempt to debunk the ideas. Ability grouping is the
common educational practice of separating students based on actual or purported
ability in the same grade into different instructional groups with differing levels of
aptitude or achievement (Ainsworth 2013). The four assumptions that will follow
were researched by the former presidential professor in equity in the graduate school
of education and information studies at UCLA, Jeannie Oakes. Ability grouping or
student tracking is in fact illegal in the state of California but, institutions still find
alternative ways to implement the method.
Keywords: Ability Grouping, Students Tracking
Debunking the False Assumptions of Ability Grouping The four ability grouping
assumptions are as follow: (1) Students learn better when they are grouped with other
students who have similar academic skills or prior levels of achievement, (2) slower
students develop more positive attitudes about themselves and their education when
they are not in daily classroom contact with those who are brighter, (3) track
placements are part of a meritocratic system with assignments earned by students and
accorded through fair and accurate means, and (4) teaching is easier when students
are grouped homogeneously, and teaching is better when there are no slower students
to lower the common denominator in the classroom

early times the church authorities had granted indulgences or remissions of penances
imposed on persons guilty of mortal sins, the condition being true penitence. At
length the Church began to accept money, not in lieu of penitence, but of the
customary penances which usually accompanied it. Before 1517 Luther had given

With over 3,000 attempts every day, suicide is the second leading cause of death
among youth in the United States (Teen Depression Study: Understanding
Depression in Teenagers). While there are many psychological and internal factors,
the responsibility to learn about the causes and effects of teen depression lies within
every person that hears this essay. Whether young, old, intelligent, or curly headed
procrastinator; we all possess a duty to the people around us to learn the
fundamentals of society s largest, deadly problem: depression.
Depression, unsurprisingly, manifests itself through a lack of energy, interest, or
motivation. It can also be shown by reduced social interaction, poor dieting, or
thoughts of death (www.nimh.nih.gov/health/topics/depression/index.shtml).
However, there are much less obvious effects of depression that are often much less
understood and discussed.
Alcoholism and substance abuse have been proven to, in many cases, be the effect of
major depression. In one survey conducted by the Substance Abuse and Mental
Health Services Administration, it was shown that those who had suffered a major
depressive episode within the last year were twice as likely to try drugs or alcohol
than those that had no major, recent episodes (Depressed Young Adults Likely to

The evidence for the relationship between alcoholism and depression is not only

I first came to the USA for my doctoral study in Penn State. However, my advisor in
Penn State had the idea to keep me as a doctoral student as long as my J1 allowed.
My first 2 years was going really well when my research on the Penn State total
artificial heart took off on the rise. I synthesized biomedical segmented polyurethane
(s PU) using the step wise temperature control to model the total artificial heart. I
tested the sPU model in vitro by seeding human cardiomyocyte cells on the sPU. The
results showed that the cells could function (i.e. responded to the electric current)
without toxicity from the sPU. After passing my qualifying exams (both written and
oral exams), I got the funded internship (i.e. a full summer scholarship)... Show more

He helped me formed the new committee members, made sure that everything was
correct but extremely quiet. Combined his helps with so much understanding from
the Director of the PSU International Office (Mrs. Masume Assaf), I was able to
graduate with my degree without the advisor knowing where I would be. I was
suggested that my advisor could locate me and used my visa continuation to force
me to continue working for him. During the time of disagreement, I sought out
help from the Dean and ombudsman and felt so helpless because no one in PSU
would help and seemed to understand the bottom line of the issue. The fact that my
J1 continuation depends solely on my advisor and he only wanted me to continue
on as a student not a postdoctoral fellow in his group. So, I moved on with the
extended time on my visa by applying to several universities for my doctoral study
and got accepted. I graduated my master without my previous advisor knew where
I would be next. It seemed as if I fled from the Penn State to Stanford U. The
professor who had helped me was later moved to U. of Minnesota because he was
denied his professorship from the department. He later told me that the Penn State is
an old fashion operating like a fraternity where no one should question the authority.
Though I did not receive financial from my advisor at the time, I did not ask for the
financial supports from the Thai
42. Redemption In A Tale Of Two Cities
Redemption is a privilege. Redemption is a chance that must be taken, when is
given. In a Tale of Two cities, Charles Dickens was explaining with the dialogue of
the characters and imagery in the book that redemption is a second chance that is
not always given. When redemption is given it must be used to the full extent. One
character that found redemption was, Sydney Carton. He was a man that did not
live the best life. With the ends of not having everything he wanted, he found a
chance of redemption and took it with its full extent. Carton s chance for
redemption was to give his life for his lover s husband. He took his chance for
redemption and made a very important sacrifice. With the Darnay s already dealing
with a supposed, death this
43. Outliers by Malcolm Gladwell
Everyone aims to fulfill the American Dream, achieving prosperity through hard
work. Society loves the ideology that anyone can become successful and that we all
have the same opportunities and chance of success, if enough work is applied. With
this ideal, people can blame their failure on not working hard enough or having an
adverse life. However, Malcolm Gladwellsees success in contrast to the common
people. Gladwell believes that success is mainly caused by having the right
opportunity and circumstances rather than by working hard. David Karp, founder
of the international social networking site Tumblr, is an individual who embodies
Gladwell s phenomenon by having extended advantages that were rare among his
peers and having a supportive, relatable lineage that not only lead him to success,
but also makes him an Outlier. In Outliers, Gladwell discusses a theory named The
10,000 Hour Rule that proposes the 10,000 hours is the specific amount it time it
takes for someone to become a master at a skill. The quote Practice isn t the thing
you do once you re good. It s the thing that makes you good (Gladwell, p.42)
exemplifies how Karp came to becoming a computer genius. David Karp had access
to extended advantages not offered to other high school students by being
homeschooled at a young age. Encouraged by his mother, Karp dropped out of
school at age 14 to be homeschooled with an emphasis on computers, coding and
Japanese (Cooper). The addition time allowed Karp to
44. Unit 9 P3 Unit 1 Network Analysis
UNIT 9 P3 EXPLAIN the key components required for client workstations to connect
to a network and access network resources
Network Devices: Network Devices includes 3 main things. These 3 things are:
Workstation: A workstation is an area accessed by a user. There are many different
types of workstations, but the network workstation makes sure that they are
connected to an office LAN so they can access other workstations if needed. It can
be used for any job, such as gaming designer, video editing, architect ect. The
network workstation allows people to share their files to any other workstation as
long as they are connected on the LAN.
Server: The server acts as the main computer. It had high end hardware just like the
workstations, but ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They are designed to reduce the amount of traffic on a LAN. This is normally done
by splitting/dividing it into the segments. Bridges operate at the data link layer of
the OSI. There are different types of bridges. For example, a network bridge
connects multiple network segments. The bridges job is to look at incoming traffic,
and make a decision whether to send it on or discard it.
UNIT 9 P5 DESCRIBE typical services provided by networks.
Account Management Account Management manages what resources the user can
access. It also allows users to only have to remember a single user and password. It
allows users to access to central file servers, main printers and applications.
Authentication Management Has the process of updating passwords and also
manages other types of authentication, such as answering personal questions, smart
cards ect. If you change your password in one area of the network, the authentication
management will also change your passwords on websites associated with that
password change.
DNS DNS stands for domain name server and is a network of servers that keep track
of Internet Domain Names. Its main job is to authenticate and find domains. It
translates IP Addresses into numbers, for example, 172.194.40.143 translates into
45. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Negotiation Bank
1. ADVANCE PAYMENT
This is done by way of demand draft or telegraphic transfers (now a day s transfer
through SWIFT system). This method is usually used for dealings involving small
amounts and with known parties where delivery period of goods is short. This
reduces the delays in getting the materials due to lesser formalities. This also saves
the bank charges paid to foreign banks that are usually quite high.
2. LETTER OF CREDIT
Letter of credit or L/C is the most common mode of payment opened for import of
goods by a banker at the instance of his importer customer in favour of overseas
seller. A L/C of credit may be commercial or non commercial. When it relates to a
mercantile transaction, buying and selling of goods, it is called a commercial letter
of credit. And when it does not relate to any mercantile transaction, but only conveys
an order of the opening ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Beneficiary
The seller, who is the exporter, is the beneficiary of the L/C. The bank issuing the L
/C assures the seller that the letter will be provided the relevant documents are
produced that the terms and conditions set out the credit are strictly complied with
3. Negotiation bank
The negotiation bank is the bank that negotiates the bills or drafts under the L/C.
Generally the same bank will act as the notifying bank and the negotiating bank.
Various stages of letter of credit
1. A credit or sales contract between seller (exporter) and buyer (importer)
originate, it includes all the terms and conditions of transaction and essentials to use
the facility of L/C. Usually this facility of L/C is opened in favour of exporter, so a
exporter is called a beneficiary.
2. The importer applies to his bank requesting and authorizing the bank to open a L
/C in favour of the exporter and pay bills drawn by the exporter under the L/C.
a) The importer is defined by the terms of the agreement between them under which
the Letter of opening the credit is issued. The following documents are sent to the
46. Detection Of Optic Disc Location
Automatic Detection of optic disc location in Color Fundus Retinal Images Using
Circle Operator
Abstract In this work a method is proposed to detect optic disk (OD) automatically
in color retinal fundus image without using background mask and blood vessels.
Based on the properties of OD, an idea of circle operator is presented here. This
method has been applied on six public databases and the promising results are
obtained. The experimental results indicate that this proposed method of automatic
OD detection has good accuracy and is also time efficient.
In modern ophthalmology, detection of optic disk is a very important step for retinal
image analysis. It is one of the main feature of extracting the anatomical structure of
the retina as illustrated in Fig. 1(a). Optic disk can be defined as the circular
brighter region in retinal fundus image where blood vessels converge and optic
nerve is formed. OD detection is very indispensable for the computer aided diagnosis
of different eye diseases such as glaucoma detection and diabetic retinopathy [1]. Fig.
1(b) represents the fundus image with retinal lesion.
Many optic disc detection methods have been proposed ear lier. In [4] [6], image
brightness based methods are proposed. In these methods it is expected that the OD
usually resembles according to the brightest pixels within fundus images. In [7] and
[8], image variation based methods are proposed based on the statement that the OD
has a high image variation due to the
47. Arguments In 12 Angry Men
The Arguments of 12 Angry Men In the film 12 Angry Men (1957), directed by
Sidney Lumet, is a film about a group of 12 jurors on a murder case. As the
beginning of the film begins, the men are seen entering the deliberation room to
come to a consensus on the case that was assigned. In the case, a young juvenile is
being tried for the murder of his own father. If he is found guilty, the boy will be
sent to the chair and will die by execution. If he is found not guilty then he will live.
As the 12 jurors all sit down to make a beginning vote (aiming to create a unanimous
consensus), only one of the men votes that the defendant is not guilty of the
presented charges. Juror #8, the opposition to everyone, believes that there is
reasonable doubt... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The argument started out with juror #8 stating that he didn t know if the kid was
guilty or not, he just believed that there were a lot of holes in the case that would
lead him to believe there is reasonable doubt in the conviction. Though this seemed
like a weak argument, there were many different key points that were made to
undermine the original argument. Jumping from one fact to the next, juror #8
eventually persuaded the entire group to change their vote to not guilty. Juror #8,
when presenting the various portions of his argument, always remains calm, as well
as the other men who eventually join his side. Juror #4, though on the original
position, actually provides a lot of this logical approach. He admits that the
opposition makes sense and when the argument overrides his, he admits he is wrong
and changes his vote. This type of argument, when proven with ethos and pathos, is
successful and will gain logical support to win the overall

49. Fashion And Fashion Design
Has man exceeded the power given to create? Gluttony and lust for material objects
had lead to overconsumption leaving a world full of accessible goods behind, human
production processes and man made products has invaded the natural world; having
an catastrophic impact on the environment as well as causing ethical strains within
communities. This essay aims to explore the contribution fashiondesign has to
perpetrating dark times as well as highlighting the critical environmental and ethical
crisis that has emerged from the consequences of human action. With the exploration
of new product innovation and alternative natural renewable resources, this essay
also endeavors to highlight the pressing need for a more enhanced sustainable
future. Design plays a crucial role in product creation as it is the first process where
new ideas form before they develop into a physical object. ... God as having made
nature but also having made man in his own likeness, giving him the capacity... to
imagine and make things beyond nature (R Williams, 1997:82). By having the
imagination and power to create, humans have produced an abundance of material
objects to meet the constant demands of consumers. In todays society, value retailers
are now encouraging fast fashionby constantly releasing new designs at low prices,
High street brands such as Primark, Zara and H M are just a few examples that are
contributing to the mass production of clothes. The size of the fashion industry has
