There are many famous characters in history and Lyndon B. Johnson is among those historical
characters. The term historical character is used to acknowledge that these people did exist in the
past and that they contributed whether it was a positive or a negative impact. Some people debate
that historical characters played a big role in the past, and others debate they played a small role.

the syntax of the greeting and as it continues throughout the speech.
As his speech continued, L.B. Johnson maintained the syntax by using short sentences and
repetition. In paragraph 5, Lyndon used the shorts sentences and repetitiveness of the term, "It is a
place" , to drive home the point of the "Great Society" and gain attention of the audience. In
paragraph 5 it states, " The Great Society is a place where every child can find knowledge... It is a

disarray. Rights as a whole were virtually non–existent. The country was extremely lacking in the
health department. As a whole, the United States was losing people to poverty, it seemed, by the

well. Lyndon Baines Johnson changed that. He and his seven year long program, the Great Society,

The website I reviewed was the Lyndon B. Johnson (LBJ) Presidential Library. The website covers
the historical events that happened during Johnson's life especially focusing in on his time as
President. LBJ was president from 1963 to 1969. I choose the LBJ presidential library but did not
know what to expect from a presidential library's website so I looked at three others (Truman,
Nixon, Clinton). The LBJ website was superior to the other three websites. There website was
clearly the most updated for example, the most up–to–date contact information.
The website was geared towards higher education and people who wanted to study about Lyndon B.
Johnson and the historical facts that were happening while he was President of the United States of
America. This website was created to show the accomplishments that LBJ had over his presidency
and other events happening during his presidency. There are two groups that have authority and run
the website and actual Presidential library and that is, The National Archives and Records
Administration (NARA) and the University of Texas at Austin run the Lyndon B. Johnson
Presidential Library. To test the accuracy of the website I looked at the biography that was posted
about LBJ and than compared it to other sites. I went to a few websites and read the bibliography on

and the blacks and the lame and the poor' (Hunt 72). He wanted to focus on social reforms but with
Vietnam looming, he had no choice but to try to handle that situation and to end the wishy – washy

topic to research "The Great Society" and how more excited I was when I was given the opportunity
to research the man that started it all, the 36th president Lyndon Bane Johnson. I had requested to
research his part as he was a man who intrigued me to learn about from the beginning. To be honest
I knew very little of this president but the more I read and studied about him the more intrigued I
was of what type of obstacles he had to overcome. I picked the president because I knew he would
probably have a great influence on the topic we were given. A president is automatically viewed in a
leader position that is given by the people, but Lyndon Johnson's story was different as he didn 't
win the 1960 campaign to become the democratic nominee to run for president and lost to J.F.
Kennedy. J.F. Kennedy went on to win the presidential campaign and elected Lyndon to be his vice
president candidate. In 1963 J.F. Kennedy was then assassinated and Lyndon took the position of
executive chief justice. Lyndon Johnson was one of his biggest critics and often referred to himself
as the accidental president but the more I learn the more I compared his struggle with mine. I learn
that Lyndon Johnson had a mother who was very ambitious and was a college graduated but when
she married Lyndon father (Earl) and had 5 children she had to put all her dreams away and focus in
raising her children.

During the LBJ administration, Johnson was focused on ending the War on Poverty, the centerpiece
of his presidency, and bringing justice to his fellow men and women. However, his pressing desire
was to give the "Great Society a chance to grow and prosper! Johnson inherited the presidential seat
after the death of John F. Kennedy. Immediately, Johnson was concentrated on establishing himself

Lyndon B. Johnson achieved important things during his administration. He administered financial
aid and medical care. He liberalized the immigration policy, he surpassed the Soviet Union in the
space race, he ratified the 25th Amendment, and he enacted the Voting Rights Act of 1965. Johnson
did more than any other president concerning the War on Poverty! He was successful in many areas
but not all of them. LBJs society might have been successful, but he deprived his Great Society of
its energies needed by committing them to the war resulting in the Great Society doing very little.
He also allocated the money needed to abolish poverty to search–and–destroy missions. During
LBJs presidency, we were in the middle of the Vietnam War which he called the "no need" country.
Instead of withdrawing America from the war, he escalated our position and involvement in it which
resulted in many lives being lost. These failures were major during the LBJ administration! As time
progressed, Johnson faced the challenge of keeping his Great Society alive and prosperous. His
society began to unravel as a result of the opposition he was facing. Johnson received the
Democratic caucus's disapproval and lack of support. He was receiving opposition as a result of the
