Reading these initial chapters in our textbook comes at an interesting time for me, as I am currently serving as an instructor for the first time!
Speaking from personal experience, I agree with the authors' in that simple skills are a crucial first step in getting off on the right foot. I believe it
would be difficult to recover with students (as well as your own self–esteem) starting out ill prepared. I really wish that I could have taken this course
prior to serving as an instructor, or at the very least attended some kind of training to prepare me. Of great importance, as Svinicki and McKeachie
point out, is having a firm grasp on university etiquette to avoid taboo subjects and relate to students appropriately. Although common sense should
prevail, training in this area may help mitigate issues that may arise with a lack of understanding on the part of the instructor. I appreciate the timeline
that chapter two offers in relation to preparing to teach three months in advance, and can see myself referring back to this in the future. This section
highlights the importance of avoiding procrastination in planning, and provides detailed instructions on how to stay on task. I did find the discussion
of course goals and objectives interesting because I had assumed they would be set by the university or department. Regardless, the authors make clear

Self–care and personalizing care has been widely promoted within heart failure management programs to improve patient outcomes and reduce hospital
admissions (Barber, Currie, & Gardiner, 2011). The problem and purpose of this research is to test the effectiveness of educating both patients and
providers regarding the effectiveness of self–care and personalizing care in the management of heart failure patients in an urban area in Florida.

Computer Based Instruction As An Adult Learner
Computer–based instruction, or CBI, is widely used to deliver content to learners of all ages. Although this form of instructional delivery has become
nearly ubiquitous, levels of effectiveness of CBI vary, particularly when considering computer–based instruction for adults. In 2005, researchers Janis
Lowe and Elwood Holton, III developed a theory regarding the elements necessary for an effective CBI experience with adult learners and then drew
five conclusions based on their investigation. Lowe and Holton (2005) acknowledged a need for both external support and instructional support if an
adult learner's CBI experience will be deemed positive. Of their five conclusions, this one was of particular interest to me based on the different

I will no doubt be employing many research techniques throughout the course of my work, however the three that I will describe in detail are:
interviews, participant observation, and site mapping. Some of the additional methods include: household information survey, literature review,

To begin, I will likely start with participant observation. I will be visiting and volunteering at multiple different non–profit organizations and

that these are about as insightful as an Instagram photo. My first semester of freshman year, for the most part, went by without much of a hiccup.
I was able to coast by with the same mindset towards learning I carried in high school, and I finished with a 3.30 GPA. Afterward, my second
semester was what lead me to buckle down. I realized that I would need to dedicate my time outside of the classroom to studying and
comprehending the material. My classes were going to become harder, each assignment more crucial, and my time more valuable. Thus, about
midway through the semester, I was building better habits with studying and learning in general. Keep in mind that at this point; I was still
adapting to the routine of a college curriculum. Even though I adopted a serious attitude towards each of my classes, there was still something
working against my favor. Looking back now, I realize that I had been enrolled in more credit hours than, perhaps, what I could handle. The increase
was only one extra credit hour (16 to 17) which came from a chemistry lab that I needed to take as a science. But, considering that I went from taking
all 100 level classes to 200 level classes, including a 300 level class, the extra credit hour was enough to stretch my workload. Plus, we had a lab

Last year, I failed two accounting courses which were 400 levels. I tried to retake one of the courses because my dad was pressuring me so hard
that I should be able to understand much better but I still could not understand the concepts and I found it really hard to catch up with the class. Since
this class was a prerequisite class for my major, I was very frustrated. I was getting so much stress from my dad and the course that I had to retake.
However, several days before I had to take a midterm, I was overwhelmed and I was not ready to take an exam. I decided to withdraw from a course
because there was no way that I could handle 400 level accounting courses. Since I failed two accounting courses before, I got an academic

When deciding to take college courses there are many choices you have to make. One of the more important choices is where you plan to take your
classes. Online classes are becoming increasingly popular because they can be easier to fit into a busy schedule, but some people still argue that
nothing beats a traditional classroom setting. Having the option of online classes makes continuing an education more appealing to people that have to
balance many other responsibilities like family, jobs, etc. Online classes and the traditional classroom setting both offer many of the same advantages.
They both provide the student with the same course content so there is no loss of curriculum between the two. Both demand the same time investment
for learning, studying, taking exams, completing papers, and so on. Although it seems easy to think that with doing all of your school work online
there isn't any personal interaction with professors and peers, however, that is a common misconception. Online classes, like traditional ones, require
a degree of contact with your peers and professors. It may not be as personal interaction as raising your hand and being called on, but you can e–mail

Introduction: The introduction section is designed to provide background on the research problem. Further, it provides insight for the reader as to why
this problem is significant, and what the researcher's perspectives are on the problem (Maryville University, 2012). It is in this section that the research

Also, the review should capture what is known about the topic. Literature review helps the reader to connect the dots between what is known, and
how this project can lead to new knowledge in the area of study. There are numerous ways for a literature review to be completed. For example,
chronologically, topically, or by articles that agree and disagree with the topic. Layout of the literature review is up to the author. Again, a decent
start for literature review is underway. The articles that are under review from previous course work will more than likely need to be refined as
more skill is developed in the art of literature review, but the work is started. The completed reviews also bring refinement in further research as new
knowledge is developed with each article reviewed. Not to mention the articles that are reviewed and rejected. Even though they are ultimately
rejected, there is always knowledge gained by their evaluation. There are 15 more articles to be researched and analyzed for their inclusion in the
capstone project. As mentioned earlier these articles will help to shed light on the identified problem, and begin to lead the way for how knowledge
gained in these evidence–based studies can help pave the way for new knowledge required to complete the capstone project. 21 days have been allotted

The comparison between me or any other creature of the animal kingdom in reference to me as a student would have to be like that of the
reduviidae otherwise referred to as the "assassin bug". It 's consistent thirst for a meal is but a mere reflection of my thirst for knowledge. The
means of attack as to which it deploys are quick as well as painless which falls into the nature as to how I accomplish my goals. If by chance a student
falls behind or needs aid I will also help them just as assassin bugs sometimes hunt in a form of group or pack for their prey. For as many means the

Analysis Of The Article 'Basic Writing Through The Back Door'
In her article, "Basic Writing Through the Back Door: Community–Engaged Courses in the Rush–to– Credit Age," Oregon State University professor
Cori Brewster reflects on her experiences working with high school and college students in an accelerated summer writing course for college credit.
Brewster's reflection is pragmatic and demonstrates the strengths and the weaknesses of the program. She also shares her hopes for the future of similar
programs and some suggestions for the improvement of future of dual–enrollment, early–college, and other similar programs that are a part of the
"rush–to–credit" trend in secondary and postsecondary education. These features of Brewster's writing show Brewster's careful consideration of her
students and of the trend toward underpreparedness that these expedited programs can cause for students when the focus is on hurried matriculation or
the "numbers" instead of students' actual needs. With a goal of providing better access to composition instruction for Oregon's rural students in a
limited time under restricting conditions, Brewster manages to create a service learning project that is meaningful for the students and the community.
The obstacles they encountered serve to give other teachers in similar programs and other teachers of transitional students with the necessary insights
to help make developmental and basic writing programs better.
