2. Service Learning Project: Enforcing Knowledge Cyber Coaches at Brookhaven Working with Elderly Building Relationships One-on-One Computer Tutoring Program
3. Community Partner Site: Some residents wanted to learn about the site and some found it too difficult to understand. Some just were not interested in the site at all. Brookhaven offers a website including information about their services to make the information more accessible for the residents The website will help Brookhaven cut down in costs for printing and distributing mass amounts of paper everyday.
4. Controversy: Why help residents at Brookhaven and not the less fortunate? View Point 1: Some people believe that service learning should redirect their attention to a less fortunate group of individuals than those at Brookhaven because of their wealth. They have the money to hire a personal tutor if they want to learn rather than use students who are volunteering their time. View Point 2: It is important to help all those in need of assistance despite their financial status. This would be discrimination, where as volunteers are meant to help anyone in need. At Brookhaven, the residents have a disadvantage since they did not grow up with most technology today. They need assistance, and that’s what’s important.
5. Hardware & Software: Many residents had Mac books and cyber coaches who didn’t know much about them were forced to learn Some residents were working with old software With new age software, residents found it easier to learn from the coaches rather than from instructional books
6. Improving Service Learning: Danielle’s Suggestion: Remind residents a day in advance that their tutors are coming Kaila’s Suggestion: Offer a list of suggestions for tutors to teach their residents Christian’s Suggestion: Each tutor should have 2 to 3 residence so they can apply themselves. Ashley Suggestion: Specify which residents will be working with Mac’s and which have HP
