Evaluation

1. For my final majorprojectIdecidedtocreate a magazine cover, contents page, and finally a double
page spread.The genre of magazine thatI chose to dowas a straightcross betweenhealth & fitness
and lifestyle.InthisevaluationIwill speakabout whatIthoughtI didwell andwhatI wouldchange if
I were to redo the assignment again. I will also discuss what went wrong during the production
phase of this assignment.
The first aspect of my project I am going to discuss is the technical part of my product. I found this
part of the assignmentthe easiestandthe hardestatthe same time.One of the majordifficultiesfor
this project was keeping the layout and sticking to my page layouts that I designed for the pre -
production part of the assignment. I feel like I achieved this goal on the contents page and the
double page spread but on the front cover I feel like I could have included more cover lines and I
could have made the writing closer together. Another technical part that I found difficult was
croppingthe images,Ifoundthisdifficultbecause I had to keep the model the same and make sure
that I don’t crop too much off him so he looks un-natural. I ended up having to redo each
photographabouttenor more timessoI thinkeachof myfinal imageslooknatural.If I were to redo
this project I would have taken the pictures in front of the backgrounds that I originally wanted.
Personally, I feel like this project has developed my Photoshop skills because I went into this
assignmentknowingnextto nothingaboutsome abouthow toset up your layout on Photoshop. An
example of one of the skills this project has developed is cropping of an image. Going into this
projectI knewitwouldheavilyrequire the croppingtool butIdidn’tthink Iwas as rubbishat doing it
than I wasso it came as a shockwhen I started. As a result of struggling with cropping images I feel
like this held the production stage of my project up therefore making me finish at a later date.
If you lookat the pre-productionpartof myassignmentand the pitch of my assignment I feel like it
all matches my final product. Obviously there are a couple of differences because I envisioned my
magazine to be different than how it turned out. In a way I think that my final product ended up
better than my original idea.
In termsof time management I ended up doing a production schedule, this helped me throughout
the assignment because I had a week by week plan. I feel like this helped my assignment more
efficient and feel more professional. By using the production schedule and blogging it I feel like it
helped remind me of what took longer than expected and what took less time than expected.
To receive audience feedback I conducted a survey via survey monkey and emailed it to a group of
my friends. I would say that the feedback was a mixed response because some people thought I
couldhave improvedmy front cover by adding more cover lines whereas some felt like my double
page spread should have included more writing to appear more professional. Personally I would
agree with the people who said my double page spread didn’t look professional enough, after
lookingbackat the finishedproductI can see thatI shouldhave includedmore writingonthe article.
If I were toredothisprojectI wouldaddmore cover lines onto the front cover to fill out the space I
would also include a barcode to make it more professional. Another thing I would change is he
double page spread I feel like I could have added more colour onto the page to brighten things up
also I think I could have included more text onto it.
