1. Unit 51 PR22: SourcingImages& Copyright
Copyrightisthe legal contractthat is setout to make sure nobody can copy your work and pass it of
as theirown.It protectsprint,film,andartisticormusical material.Toreceive a copyright to protect
your workyouhave to applyfor itand it only protects you for a number of years, after that you will
have to reapplyforit. An example of when copyright can come into use is when you post a song on
YouTube/sound cloud without the creator’s permission it then gets taken down.
With this project being centred on producing a magazine and sourcing images I went onto google
and lookedforanimage froma magazine photoshoot. The image thatIam usingas example for this
task, shown below, is off Adele and it was used on the cover of Time Magazine. To find out who
ownsthe image I am going to use ‘Copyright Hub’. Through searching the image on copyright hub I
have foundthat the photowastakenby Erik Madigan. If I wasto use thisimage for anything I would
have to find his contact details and try to email him asking for permission, even after I have done
this I will have to include a little text box in the corner of the image just saying that the photo was
taken by him.
The image shownbelowwill be the one Iamgoingto use for my magazine cover and it is of Taraji P.
Henson,thisimage wasusedforherissue of W magazine.Ithenfoundoutthat thisimage wastaken
by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott. So like before if I were to use this photograph in a proper
magazine I would have to contact these people to as for permission to use the image.
