Adjective Clause modifies a noun. It describes or gives
information about a noun. Betty Schrampfer Azar (1992)
Adjective clause is subordinate clause that functions as an
adjective that modifies a noun or pronoun (Husain, 1933:
90)

An adjective clause—also called an adjectival or relative
clause—will meet three requirements:
1. First, it will contain a subject and verb.
2. Next, it will begin with a relative pronoun [who, whom,
whose, that, or which] or a relative adverb [when, where, or
why].
3. Finally, it will function as an adjective, answering the
questions What kind? How many? or Which one?

Kinds of adjective clause:
Relative Pronoun: who (whom or whose) or that
Ex:
Subject: He paid the money to the man who ( or that) had
done the work.
Object of verb: He paid the man whom ( or that) he had
hired.
Objective of preposition: He paid the man from whom he
had borrowed the money.
Possessive Adjective: This is the girl whose picture you saw.
8. Relative Pronoun: which or that
Subject: Here is a book which (or that) describes
animals.
Object of verb: The chair (or that) he broke is being
repaired.
Object of preposition: She was wearing the coat for
which she had paid $ 2,000.
9. Relative adverb: When, where, why.
When: This is the year when the olympic games are held.
Where: Here is the house where I live.
Why: Give me one good reason why you did that?
