 An adjective clause—also called an adjectival or relative

1. First, it will contain a subject and verb.
2. Next, it will begin with a relative pronoun [who, whom,
whose, that, or which] or a relative adverb [when, where, or

3. Finally, it will function as an adjective, answering the
questions What kind? How many? or Which one?
(Marcella Frank)
Kinds of adjective clause:
 Relative Pronoun: who (whom or whose) or that
Ex:
Subject: He paid the money to the man who ( or that) had

Object of verb: He paid the man whom ( or that) he had

animals.

repaired.
Object of preposition: She was wearing the coat for
which she had paid $ 2,000.
 Relative adverb: When, where, why.
When: This is the year when the olympic games are held.
Where: Here is the house where I live.
Why: Give me one good reason why you did that?
(Betty Schramphfer Azar, 1992:
310)
