1. Evaluation
My initial plan was to create a digipak and advert for a band called Finding Midnight. I
have taken inspiration from two of my favourite bands (Wolf Alice and Catfish and The
Bottlemen). I like that Wolf Alice have a female lead singer as most bands in the
Alternative Rock genre have male leads. It is also important for me to challenge
conventions within my digipak so I have chosen to have a band with both male and
female members and I would really like to bring out the femininity within the album
and show that it is not something for men or women to be afraid of.
I think that overall my planning and time keeping could have been better for this project,
I think it would have been best to create my production schedule first and then there
would be clear timings and deadlines for each task. I struggled with this because I was
unsure what opportunities I would have at first to book the photography studio at a time
when Katy and I were available. I think that it would also be important to ensure that
all pre-production tasks were completed before the production started because I left the
Legal and Ethical report as one of the last tasks I did which wasn’t helpful.
I think that the Photo shoot was the best part of this project, I planned it out carefully
and booked plenty of time in the studio so that there was no rush. We took plenty of
different photos, even ones that I hadn’t planned just to experiment with the lighting
and angles. I ended up being really pleased with the results, the photos where exactly
what I had hoped for.
The editing process was actually the hardest part for me but definitely the most
rewarding. I hadn’t had previous experience using Photoshop, it was all very new and I
had lots of learning to do so the editing process took a lot longer than I had initially
expected. I did stick to my plans and I enjoyed creating the front cover of the album as
I had to draw an image of Katy’s face which I think ended up looking quite creative so
I was happy with that. One thing I particularly struggled with was the legal information
and where to put it. Initially I had wanted it onthe back cover but after having completed
it I decided it looked a lot cleaner without. I ended up putting it on the inside cover as
it was the original image of Katy’s face that the front cover was based off of so as it
was already quite simple, it worked out well to have in in the bottom left hand corner.
This unit has been beneficial to me as it has helped me learn about the music industry
and all of the regulatory bodies. I also know now that planning in the key part of the
projectthat will help everything elserun sosmoothly. I have also learned key Photoshop
skills which will give me the experience I need to create better pieces of work, it will
also help for my future when I go forward into a career in the media industry.
