GREEN LINE
An environmental linear park for sports, culture and recreation
Aguascalientes is located in the Mexican semi-desert, we depend on one
of the most overexploited aquifers in the country and it is considered a
high risk zone of climate change.

The East side of the City is the most densely populated and overcrowding
is a big problem here as is the lack of public recreational spaces.

There is a high rate of domestic violence and many of the young criminals
in the City come from these neighborhoods.

Eight out of twelve polygons of poverty of Aguascalientes are here.

This is why, this administraton created the Green Line Project.

                                                    2011-2013
                                                   CONCEPTS
The Green Line is the name we gave to
the underused land covering the 12”
duct that transports oil for PEMEX.

It is 15 kilómeters in lenght and
between 15 and 60 meters wide in
different sections. A total area of 50
hectars. Its construction will be divided in
three stages.

In 2011, 6 kilometers were built,
finishing the First Stage.

                   CONCEPTS
•With the Green Line the Municipal Governent:
•Compensates the lack of public spaces for social gatherings that are
    urgently needed.
•Triggers social development for our most vulnerable citizens.

•With the Green Line PEMEX:
•Generates a replicable and scaleable model for the security of its
    installations.
•Shows evidence of its commitment to the environment and society.

                                                  PEMEX-
                                              AGUASCALIENTES:
                                               SHARED VISION
To execute the project, the work
was divided in the following
layers.

            LAYERS
Parallel to the Green Line, the Hydraulic Recovery Plan “Purple Line” is
developing for the benefit of the entire City, with the rehabilitation of water
treatment plants to curve down water depletion from the aquifer.

To irrigate the new park, 3 existing water treatment plants plus a new one
with great capacity will be installed, covering 100% of the water
requirements of the Green Line.

                                                           WATER
                                                        INFRASTRUCTURE
Nowadays, the roads along the Green
Line are heterogenic in quality; some
                                    paved segments, some unpaved and
even vast amounts of non delineated
                                    streets.

The Green Line will consolidate all roads
and will complete the vial structure.

In the most affluent street nodes,
                                    pedestrian, vehicle and bicycle bridges
and underpasses will be built to preserve
                                    the park´s continuity.

The project includes the installation of
completely new illumination
infrastructure with more than 3,300 ROADS AND
environmentally friendly street lamps, PUBLIC LIGHTING
their source of energy will come from
14 solar panels.
Care for the environment is the base of this
project. With the inclusion of large grass areas
and the plantation of more than 5,000 trees of
considerable size and adaptable to local climate,
and the carful preservation of more than 210
existing trees, we will help slow down
desertification and metabolize CO2 into oxygen.

                         GREEN
                    INFRASTRUCTURE
Bicycle and jogging tracks are the bone
structure of the Green Line.

The tracks are built with permeable
concrete, allowing rainwater to be absorbed
into the ground.

With the support of the Federal
Government, a Sports Club with an Olympic
size pool is currently being built.

Courts for different sports and open air
gyms, bike stations and traditional gaming
areas are designed.

                     SPORTS
                 INFRASTRUCTURE
Playgrounds for children are placed all
along the Green Line.

Handicapped people and the elderly are
also considered in the design and
equipment of all installations.

Plazas and resting areas will be fully
equipped for family and community
integration and recreation.

                  RECREATIONAL
                INFRASTRUCTURE
The site´s new conditions will facilitate diverse cultural activities such as
dance, theatre events, music, visual arts, etc.

Open air forums, concert areas, and different urban elements to allow
street art are also part of the design.

The Green Line will foster a vast amount of community activities like
reading, crafts, workshops, programs for children and free film exhibitions.

                                                       CULTURAL
                                                   INFRASTRUCTURE
56% of overall population of the City lives around the Green Line.
  They represent the following:

With the Green Line, the
Municipality pioneers an
efficient and polyfacetic project
for social rescue that also
benefits the local environmental
conditions.

This is a public policy of
convivance and safety based
on the corresponsability of
government and citizens.

by March 31st, 2012, impacting 31 neighborhoods directly.

Green Line Linear Park

  • 1.
  • 2. GREEN LINE An environmental linear park for sports, culture and recreation
  • 3. Aguascalientes is located in the Mexican semi-desert, we depend on one of the most overexploited aquifers in the country and it is considered a high risk zone of climate change. The East side of the City is the most densely populated and overcrowding is a big problem here as is the lack of public recreational spaces. There is a high rate of domestic violence and many of the young criminals in the City come from these neighborhoods. Eight out of twelve polygons of poverty of Aguascalientes are here. This is why, this administraton created the Green Line Project. 2011-2013 CONCEPTS
  • 4. The Green Line is the name we gave to the underused land covering the 12” duct that transports oil for PEMEX. It is 15 kilómeters in lenght and between 15 and 60 meters wide in different sections. A total area of 50 hectars. Its construction will be divided in three stages. In 2011, 6 kilometers were built, finishing the First Stage. CONCEPTS
  • 5. •With the Green Line the Municipal Governent: •Compensates the lack of public spaces for social gatherings that are urgently needed. •Triggers social development for our most vulnerable citizens. •With the Green Line PEMEX: •Generates a replicable and scaleable model for the security of its installations. •Shows evidence of its commitment to the environment and society. PEMEX- AGUASCALIENTES: SHARED VISION
  • 6. To execute the project, the work was divided in the following layers. LAYERS
  • 7. Parallel to the Green Line, the Hydraulic Recovery Plan “Purple Line” is developing for the benefit of the entire City, with the rehabilitation of water treatment plants to curve down water depletion from the aquifer. To irrigate the new park, 3 existing water treatment plants plus a new one with great capacity will be installed, covering 100% of the water requirements of the Green Line. WATER INFRASTRUCTURE
  • 8. Nowadays, the roads along the Green Line are heterogenic in quality; some paved segments, some unpaved and even vast amounts of non delineated streets. The Green Line will consolidate all roads and will complete the vial structure. In the most affluent street nodes, pedestrian, vehicle and bicycle bridges and underpasses will be built to preserve the park´s continuity. The project includes the installation of completely new illumination infrastructure with more than 3,300 ROADS AND environmentally friendly street lamps, PUBLIC LIGHTING their source of energy will come from 14 solar panels.
  • 9. Care for the environment is the base of this project. With the inclusion of large grass areas and the plantation of more than 5,000 trees of considerable size and adaptable to local climate, and the carful preservation of more than 210 existing trees, we will help slow down desertification and metabolize CO2 into oxygen. GREEN INFRASTRUCTURE
  • 10. Bicycle and jogging tracks are the bone structure of the Green Line. The tracks are built with permeable concrete, allowing rainwater to be absorbed into the ground. With the support of the Federal Government, a Sports Club with an Olympic size pool is currently being built. Courts for different sports and open air gyms, bike stations and traditional gaming areas are designed. SPORTS INFRASTRUCTURE
  • 11. Playgrounds for children are placed all along the Green Line. Handicapped people and the elderly are also considered in the design and equipment of all installations. Plazas and resting areas will be fully equipped for family and community integration and recreation. RECREATIONAL INFRASTRUCTURE
  • 12. The site´s new conditions will facilitate diverse cultural activities such as dance, theatre events, music, visual arts, etc. Open air forums, concert areas, and different urban elements to allow street art are also part of the design. The Green Line will foster a vast amount of community activities like reading, crafts, workshops, programs for children and free film exhibitions. CULTURAL INFRASTRUCTURE
