2. COPPER SULPHATE
• Copper sulphate is a
compound with the
chemical formula CuSO4.
• It is known by several
names – blue
vitriol, bluestone, vitriol of
copper,[and Roman vitriol.
Neela thotha in Hindi
• It is used as a Fungicide (to
stop the growth of fungi).
• It is used to stop the
growth of algae in
swimming pools.
• It is used to kills weeds
near water pipes.
• A dilute solution of copper
sulfate is used to
treat aquarium fishes for
parasitic infections.
3. Change in colour of the copper sulphate
solution due to reaction with iron

4. DISPLACEMENT REACTION
• is a chemical reaction in which one element
replaces other element in a compound. It can
be represented generally as:
• B-C + A → A-C + B
• The colour change in this reaction is also
because of a displacement reaction.
• Copper sulphate solution (blue) + Iron→ Iron
sulphate solution (green) + Copper (brown
deposit)
5. DISPLACEMENT REACTION
• Imagine you are travelling in a bus which is
absolutely congested. The people are pushing
and there is a whole lot of chaos.
• At the next stop a bouncer kind of a person
boards the bus. The bouncer easily makes way
through the congested bus.
• Can the guess the reason?
6. DISPLACEMENT REACTION
• In the same way Iron is stronger than Copper
and is capable of displacing copper from
Copper Sulphate and take its place and
become Iron Suplhate. THIS IS CHEMICAL
CHANGE AS NEW SUBSTANCE IS FORMED.
