 Applications for nanotechnology in medicine
include imaging, diagnosis, or the delivery of drugs
that will help medical professionals treat various
diseases.
 Nanotech is used in the life science sector for
therapy techniques, diagnostics and complex drug-
delivery systems.

NANO TECHNOLOGY USES: MATERIALS AND COATINGS
• As the National Nanotechnology Initiative explains,
using nanotechnology, “materials can effectively
be made to be stronger, lighter, more durable,
more reactive, more sieve-like, or better electrical
conductors
• Nanotechnology can also improve the coverage or
absorption of cosmetics and can make fabrics
resistant to wrinkling and bacterial growth.

• Electrical circuitry is becoming ever smaller, and
it’s nanotechnology that makes such advancements
possible.
The use of nanotechnology allows electronics to be
faster, smaller, and more portable. It increases the
power of electronic devices, improves the density of
memory chips, and helps reduce power consumption
and the size of transistors used in integrated circuits.

• Nanotechnology applications in the energy sector
include uses in both energy storage and the
recovery of oil and gas.
• Nanotechnology is used in the renewable energy
sector too, for purposes such as enhancing solar
cells.

• The traditional use of nanotechnology in cancer therapeutics has been to improve the
pharmacokinetics and reduce the systemic toxicities of chemotherapies through the selective targeting
and delivery of these anticancer drugs to tumor tissues.
