2. SONG NAME: PUMPED UP KICKS
CHOSEN SONG
The song we have chosen is by Jaden smith.
It is very random and doesn’t actually have a
story behind it. The lyrics are very random
which has made it easier for us to come up
with a video idea to put with it. The
randomness of the lyrics also matches the
style and attitude we have chosen for our
main artist and actors.
3. GENRE
INDIE RAP
What is indie rap?
Indie rap is a mix between indie
music, and rap music (obviously) this
is also shown in the videos. Rap
videos are usually very big, with
mansions and lots of young
attractive girls and expensive clothes
and jewellery whereas indie rap is
very different. It is much more
relaxed and not as much of a big
deal.
Codes and conventions:
- Usually quite low budget so have
locations in public places such as a
park or tunnel or example.
- Quite retro costumes
- Usually performance or concept based
- Lots of close up shots to show the
artists facial expressions and body
language
- Long wide, establishing shots to show
the surroundings
- Effects are usually used in the videos.
- Editing usually matches the pace of
the song
We are going to develop most of the
conventions for indie rap music
videos:
-filming outside
-Retro/hipster clothing
-Concept based
-Close up shots of our artist
performing
4. Values and ideologies
Our artist would be someone that
is very careless and a free spirit. He
doesn’t care about what others
think of his music or his style. He
likes to set trends and be different
from everyone else. The song is
very random which reflects our
artists personality.
Style-wise, mixing it up is key – high street brands
with vintage, and keeping things edgy. It’s skater
influenced cool. Think mini versions of east London
Hipsters – snapbacks, beanies, rolled up skinny jeans,
bandanas, long socks and random colour themes.
STAR IMAGE
5. The target audience for our music
video is teenagers/young adults who
are either in education or a part time
job, for example in a shop. The song
that we have chosen is very random
and doesn’t really have a meaning.
This is reflected in the target
audience, they would be people, boys
and girls of any ethnicity that are
carefree and do not have too many
responsibilities.
TARGET AUDIENCE
As our video is concept based, there
is going to be a lot of montage
which will be made up of the
outfits, the surrounding and props
that we are going to use. The video
will be very ‘’arty’’ which means our
target audience would typically be
interested in things like art. They
would be creative and trend
setters.
Our target audience would be
interested in things such as fashion,
art and partying. We are creating a
concept based video, things such as
costume and image are very
important as they will show the
actors personalities. Our target
audience would be interested in
looking and what they are wearing
and how they come across.
Our target audience would come
under the social class category E
because they would only be in
causal part time work. They would
be either ‘’cowboys’’ or ‘’dropouts’’
which would be people who want to
make money quickly and easily and
who do not want to get committed
in any way.
6. The video we are planning to
create is concept based. The
concept of the video is being
able to ‘’escape’’ from the
society we are living in. The
target audience for the video is
teens and young adults, who in
todays society can feel trapped
and forced in to doing what is
considered as ‘’normal.’’ Our aim
is to show this through our video
and show the actors escaping
from feeling that way.
The video is concept based but
there is hints of a story behind
it. The audience will be able to
pick up the ideas we are having
through hints in the video such
as costume and body language.
OVERALL MEANING
The group of people we have in the
video are going to be playing the parts of
people, the same age as the target
audience so young adults and teens, that
are going along with the routine in
todays society. Get up, go to
work/college, go home, repeat. The
body language and suits they are
wearing in the beginning of the video
show how they feel about the way they
are living. Later on in the video we see
this change.
We have chosen a rooftop setting where
the group go to ‘’escape’’ from their
everyday lives. When they go to the
rooftop their body language changes,
their costumes change in to clothes they
look comfortable and happy in. This is
the meaning behind our video.
Meaning; as soon as the group go to the
rooftop they are free. They do not have
to think about work , college ,parents,
society. They no longer have to conform.
They can be themselves and this is how
society should always be.
7. The video will start with a shot of
the group standing on the street in
their smart clothes, looking
miserable. They are looking up at
the rooftop. They get in to the lift in
their smart clothes and get out in
their own clothes. The lift
symbolises their freedom and their
escape. When the lift opens at the
top they are free.
There will be an establishing shot at
the beginning where we see the
group standing looking up at the
rooftop. We will also have some
close ups of their faces.
The middle of the video is going to be
performance and a montage of
different shots. We will see them
messing around on the roof, doing
what they want. There will be shots
of the location , their clothing and the
main artist performing. The
spontaneity of the shots here will also
match the carefree attitudes of the
actors.
Here we will have lots of close up
shots of the costumes and artists
faces. We will also have long shots of
the setting for example the view from
the rooftop.
NARRATIVE SYNOPSIS
The end of the video will be the
group getting back in to the lift
in their everyday clothes, when
they get out of the lift at the
bottom they will be in their
suits, looking miserable going
back to their everyday routines
We will have similar shots here
to the beginning of the video.
We will see more close ups of
their faces so we can see their
body language and facial
expressions which show the
audience how they are feeling.
8. Here is our animatic storyboard. We have drawn 30 shots that will be shown in the first part of our video.
Making an animatic story board will make it easier for us once we come to filming the video as we will know
what shots we want and what order to do it in.
ANIMATIC STORYBOARD
9. Setting:
The main setting we have for
our video is the rooftop of a
tall block of flats. This is going
to represent the groups
‘’escape’’ from society. We
are also going to have some
shots in random places such
as in the street. The
establishing shot is going to
be the group in the street
looking up at the rooftop.
SETTING
/PROPS
Props:
The props we are going to be
using are things such as
skateboards, bikes, candles and
many other random things. The
group are going to be messing
around as they would normally
so they will have things with
them that they actually carry
around with them .
