2. We have chosen to make a music video within
the genre of Alternative Pop. The song we have
picked is by Delilah, called βDisrespectβ. In this
presentation we are going to discuss the codes
and conventions of alternative pop and our
initial ideas for our own music video. We have
looked at some of Delilahβs released tracks to
give us ideas for when we produce our own
music video.
3. Codes and Conventions of Alternative
Pop
Use of extreme close ups and long shots are used
8. Applying Goodwinβs Theory to Delilahβs Music
We have looked into Delilah's other music videos and have found that
throughout the music videos Delilah conforms to Goodwinβs theory as there
is a relationship between the music and the visuals.
We also noticed that there was a relationship between the lyrics and visuals.
In her music video βBreatheβ the lyrics match the emotion on artists face, for
example when she says βI can hate what you say and still smileβ, it is a close
up of her smiling.
9. How is the artist represented?
The artist is represented as unique and stylish by the
clothes and accessories that she wears in all of her music
videos.
She relates to the target audience of teenagers and young
adults of both genders by showing sex appeal and keeping
up to date with todayβs fashion.
11. Overall Vision
From analysing Delilahβs video we have noticed that they are always either concept
or narrative based or both. They are also always focused on relationships or the
troubles of life.
Our initial idea for our music video is having a concept of a violent relationship
between a man and woman, with the narrative showing the audience examples of
this relationship.
We are going to do this by showing the male and female throughout the video with
the stereotypical male being the dominant character and the female character
being portrayed as an object. Whilst this is happening, we are going to have another
female character singing the lyrics, but not involved in the narrative.
12. Location
We have decided to use more than one location throughout our music video.
For example we want to use realistic environments such as:
-Kitchen -Alley way
-Bedroom -Town centre
13. Effects
After watching Delilahβs music videos it was evident that she used various effects
that emphasised certain visuals which made the music video more creative and
interesting to watch.
This gave us some creative ideas to add to our music video such as:
-Slow motion
-Fast paced edit
-Reversing the shot
14. Performance Style
From analysing Delilahβs video we have noticed that they are always either concept or
narrative based or both. From this we have decided to conform to the usual codes and
conventions of alternative pop and make our video a hybrid of concept and narrative
based.
15. Props
As one of our scenes is going to be based in a kitchen, we are going to have to use
everyday kitchen equipment, such as plates, knives, glasses etc.
We donβt plan on using many props throughout the video as we want it to be focused
mainly on the characters faces and emotion, more than through the use of props.
16. Casting
For our music video, we plan on using three main characters.
The male character- 18-20 years old, quite tall, dark features
-The female character- 17-19 years old, with a look of
vulnerability, quite petite, wears stylish clothes
-Second female character (pretending to be the artist)-
A similar age to the other characters, fashionable clothing
17. Audience Attraction
We think that our music video would hold the audiences attention as they may
be able to relate to the narrative of the video β a violent relationship. The
narrative which we have chosen will keep the audiences attention and make
them want to watch more as they will want to know what is going to happen by
the end of the video.
We also think that the editing techniques that we are going to use, such as the
reversing and slow motion, will help catch the audiences attraction.
